Such a pretty day even though it was windy – I took the dogs to the hayground for 90 minutes. Hazel killed 3 snakes and a little mole or shrew….and then she rolled on each of them. Believe me she got a thorough wash down – I can’t stand the thought of sleeping with snake juice!
I did not get Civil War Modern bound – darn. There’s one spot where I had a little trouble with the machine – not horrible and when it’s hung I’ll probably never think about it again but….
My cleaning gal is coming tomorrow – I’m hoping I’ll make myself clean in the quilt shop while she cleans in the house. Or not. Hank is coming in the afternoon and evening – Keeper will be happy until he wears out which happens sooner than Hank wears out.
The road construction in Garner has gone way beyond impossible – I understand the company even got fined for poor traffic control. That’s an understatement if I ever heard one.
And my van – I still don’t have it and it’s been there 5 weeks. (I just deleted a long paragraph of angst – you wouldn’t have liked it.)
What’s happening at your house this weekend? It’s going to be a year next week that I had my first surgery at Mayo. Now there’s a date burned in my mind!

Look at this interesting and creative addition to one of our favorite blocks – by Susan in TX

Here’s the little farmscape quilt that I’m giving as a gift next month. I have quite a lot of fabric left and a reader sent me several yards more. Would anyone be interested in a panel the size of around 20 x 24? I’ll just throw it out there and you can let me know.

I was in the mudroom today and suddenly Barney decided to enter thru the cat door. Three happened to be there and slapped Barney around like a paper doll! Barney couldn’t back out fast enough!! Barney’s place is in the barn. Three’s place is in the house. Period.

Three better behave or I’ll send 22.86 lb Buddy out to protect Barney!!! Nice here yesterday and today. But, it is very windy so it feels colder than it is. I am definitely that “Fabric Scissors Lady”–lol. Mine are labeled–paper and fabric. We visited our son and fiancee in Cleveland and went to a cute quilt shop. I found and bought fabric–imagine that!
I am trying to help my friend whose daughter passed away. All of us are here to help. It is so sad.
Off to quilt. Take care everyone.
Diane – I’ll bet Three is about the same size as Buddy – he’s huge! Poor little Barney didn’t have a chance but I don’t want him in the house fighting either so I hope he got the message.
Mortie is so cool!
What am I doing this weekend? Winning the lottery!!!
Next week I’m:
Paying off student loans
Paying off school lunch debts
Paying off mortgages
Setting up a trust for PBS and the local animal shelter
Prepay Mary’s blog, so I don’t feel bad when I have trouble clicking on the ads!
Jo – hahahaha!! Well, you don’t have to worry about not clicking on the ads / the blog will go on! I wonder what a winner would do with all that money!
That was so mean of Three! LOL
At my house this weekend: I got out of the house to go to a monthly knitting guild meeting today! I brought them some charity items – a child’s stocking cap and two little crocheted blankets for the cat rescue group. I’m trying to use up yarn, but I won the door prize – some beautiful wool yarn I’ll need to find a pattern for.
Mary, regarding your deleted rant, your crew is here to listen, hold your hand, and sympathize. So I’m sending a hug!
Dot – that’s really kind but sometimes it’s just enough to get it down and then deleting it because if I hit publish I’ll be sorry in the end!!
Mary love the farm scene quilt. Someone will be happy! Susan your quilt blocks are so beautiful and love the secondary design in the center. I think I’m finished outside, well except for the leaves. We have Pin Oaks and they never release all there leaves till spring. Cleaned the outside of the windows the total clean of windows was done in September. The inside, outside and all the in between the opened windows. Feels good to get it all done. Now to more sewing. Did get the lights hung on the railing. Use Velcro to attach it. Sew easy and quick. No ladder needed.
Have a great day everyone!
I agree with Connie R. in Wisconsin, how you used the cloth to create your design for the farm quilt was eye-opening to possibilities, Mary. the color palette is also bucolic and inviting. Susan in TX, your color placements is also inspiring for simple tweaks giving depth to the overall design. 🙂
Oh, Barney, so sorry. Never a dull moment at your place, Mary.
Happy sewing this weekend.
Jan
I love how your farm scene quilt came out. The way you put it all together is great. I have a similar farm scene fabric that I love but was always hesitant to cut it up and ruin the overall look. Now , from your quilt, I see that you can make a partial whole cloth design and add interest with a pieced border. Thanks for the inspiration.
It was 48 degrees here this morning and, feels like spring compared to the last week’s temperatures. It’s supposed to be short lived so, I may put up some outdoor Christmas lights for my Mom. Better than doing it in snow and freezing temperatures.
I would love a farm panel. Your quilt is adorable!3
Elizabeth – can you email me at maryehazel2020@gmail.com –
Mary, loved your farm quilt! So sweet.
Judy
Loving this weather! A chill is coming, however. Rain too but I see they pushed that off for SW anyway.
I loved the post today. It fit in with my mood as I am determined it shall be another good day despite my back still not behaving. I am getting ready for retreat that starts Monday. Slowly.
All animals must have their pecking order.
Loved that block and how they come together. If I needed a project I would snap that up in a heartbeat! I am trying to stay in my projects that need doing. It’s so hard with more beautiful fabric hitting the quilt store shelves.
Love it when blocks put together add another design to make it more interesting. As always what is happening on the farm is good to hear about. Love the farm panel, yours looks very inviting. Hope you get back your vehicles soon.
Oh, the final comment about Three protecting is territory is amazing. Poor Barney.
Here it is Gus, my granddaughter’s cat, trying to play/terrorize Buster, my 12 year old dog. Poor Buster thinks the cat wants to play and then he runs away and hides. Buster looks to me for protection.
Gus has also decided he wants to get into the garbage under the sink. So now I’m tying the cupboard closed. And I’ve lost count how many glasses of water of mine he has tipped over.
Your farm scene quilt is precious. Yes, I agree it looks like Grandma Moses print.
Thanks for sharing the quilt with the orange addition. Sure makes it sing. Or pop like a sunburst!!
Loved all the photos! And of course your commentary is always interesting. I’ve been cooking, baking and freezing for the upcoming Thanksgiving when our kids and grands are coming and staying for a few days. Several kinds of soups, two pecan pies and pumpkin muffins so far. Can’t wait! Loving the record warm temps. Worked outside all afternoon yesterday, cleaning up flower beds, putting leaves on raised bed garden and storing away lawn furniture. Will be out there again today. It’s been a long time since I have done any quilting, but my daughter and I are starting a t-shirt quilt for my granddaughter’s graduation in May. Should be fun!
Hazel sure has been earning her keep around the farm. When a JRT is part of the family any little animals are fair game. Your farm quilt reminds me of a Grandma Moses painting. Poor Barney. Three is very protective of his territory. Today is a cleaning day for me. My sewing room has been neglected while I was dealing with my husband’s surgeries so today is the day I tackle that beast. I just love reading all of the comments. And I am so glad that your surgery is now just a distant memory although I do hope that the surgery on your van is soon finished.
My older brother turned 80 and we are heading up to Maine ( a 3 hour drive) to surprise him . My younger brother flew in from Florida and spent the night with us. My older brother will be so surprised.
Mary, I would dearly love a chunk of the farm fabric. I already have an idea for it! Isn’t that always the way, the fabric sparks the creativity!
Love the warrior seamstress! My oldest cut grip tape for his skate board with my sewing scissors. I could have throttled him. p.s. He lived.
Marilyn – send me an email at maryehazel2020@gmail regarding the farm fabric
Poor Barney! I love the secondary design in the blocks. I also love it when putting blocks together forms a secondary design. Yesterday was a beautiful day here in Michigan.
Ohh, I hope Barney didn’t get hurt, he’s a sweetie! I like your little farmland quilt 😻
We’re having the same temperature on the better days, and wondering where our spring has gone. There might even be a snow dump this weekend in the Victorian snow fields!! And widespread electrical storms for much of the east coast.
I love the quilt blocks, especially with the secondary pattern – that always lifts the whole quilt design.
This weekend is a working bee with DH, son and son-in-law laying paving under the clothesline. The sand has been covered all winter, since May, with orange builders plastic and bricks and rocks. My son says he’ll bring the baby and the dog to be supervisors, so I know where I’ll be 😊
Next Thursday I’m finally having a total knee replacement, so I have lots of books and hand sewing lined up. The procedure is being done with robotic assistance, which means better accuracy, and recovery should be much quicker.
Cheers from Pauline in South Australia.
Pauline – oh, you’ll do great with your knee replacement and recovery! Lucky you – the baby and the dog!
Hi Mary, l had lunch with my 2 quilting friends today, must have worn myself out talking, came home and had a nap! Last night l went with my son and family out to celebrate his birthday at a local pub,had to sit outside as inside seating is all stools at high tables and l can’t climb up on a high stool nowadays! They gave us blankets to keep warm as there was a cool breeze! I hope keeper is having a nap after his day with hank! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – and we have to look for high stools so Rick can sit – he simply can’t get up out of a chair
What is the red light Barney is sleeping in, Mary?
Carol – it’s a heat bulb which I should have unplugged the last couple days when our weather has been so warm. He’ll need it next week.
