Connie and I left at 8 am for a large quilt shop northwest of Minneapolis – Gruber’s Quilt Shop, Waite Park, MN – about 3-1/2 hours away from us but oh, was it worth the drive! I haven’t been in a big quilt shop for several years and I certainly made up for it today. I can’t wait to show you what’s in these bags!
I have tons of fabric – Civil War, brushed plaids and darks but I’ve changed and needed new brighter fabrics. I can hardly wait to clear off a shelf to put these new fabrics on and then start sewing with them.
We also went to Millie P’s in Anoka, MN where we shopped. Oh, good Lord, did I shop! Luckily I have a hobby I enjoy and now it will be more fun than ever – I’ll show you what I bought and then if you’re really interested, you can shop online at Gruber’s or Millie P’s.
I’m going to bed – shopping is exhausting! And we helped the Minnesota economy!
Wow! I can actually feel your excitment. And, I can get a glimpse of wonderful fabrics in those bags. Good for you two getting out and going shopping. When you wake up tomorrow you will have all those fabrics to look at again. I can’t wait to see them.
i am jealous. but happy for both of you. will be interesting to see what you bought quilty hugs, patti in florida
How can you leave us hanging?! 😉
Looks like you girls had a wonderful day !!! ….. isn’t that a great shop… ( not as great as Country Threads was tho….. LOL )
I love Gruber’s!
How fun; shopping with a quilting buddy is the best! I will look forward to seeing all the quilting goodies you bought.
Retail therapy makes everyone feel better. Good for the two of you getting out.
I’m on my to the cities to visit my daughter and family this weekend! SR Harris in Burnsville is my 1st stop at 10 am.. and I’ll work in a Millie Ps stop before I head home. Between hockey games and A baseball game… grandmas pretty busy!! I haven’t been up to see them since Jan 24 th I can’t wait! I also can’t wait to see what’s in All your packages!! Glad you had a much deserved getaway♥️
A perfect day for two quilting buddies!
That certainly is a great shop! It has everything.
How exciting!!
Hi Mary, looking forward to seeing your fabric purchases.and the resulting quilts, take care, best wishes from sandy.
I’m so glad you had a great day shopping! Can’t wait to see your treasures.
Two of my very favorite stores.
I love Gruber’s quilt shop too! They have everything you could need. The owner also is very nice. I’ll have to check out Millie P’s. I’m from southern Illinois and when I head north I always stop at Gruber’s
Isn’t it refreshing when we can change to a different color palate than what we are use to using!!! It will always make sewing fun to have these adventures of buying, figuring out a pattern and then the joy of cutting it into something to treasure. Can’t wait to see it all spread out.
Grubers and Millie P’s are two of my favorite quilt shops! Looks like you had a lot of fun! Great day!
Love, love, love Gruber’s. They have something close to 10,000 bolts of fabric so you will definitely find it there.
Can’t wait to see. I love shopping with my bff! You’re a teaser making us wait to see what you bought! 😅 But, you are right shopping is exhausting (not to mention your long ride to/from that great shop)! 😉💖
Oh my, your day with Connie sounds so fun! I’ll need to add these shops onto my list when I visit my sister. She lives southeast of Minneapolis. Love playing and planning with new fabrics!
I love Grubers!! Lucky you~ our quilt shops here are still closed, for the most part; unless one makes an appointment. 😔 I hope the shops will survive. 🤷🏼♀️
It looks like you were very successful AND according to Gruber’s FB page, a big hit at the store! Amazing what retail therapy can do for your sewing soul. Be still…
Minnesota thanks you!
I am jealous of your outing but so thankful that you & Connie were able to have such a wonderful day ! I have to catch you up on the kids & will later in an email. The storms in Iowa were awful from what I have seen on the news & glad you missed the worst of it. South Texas is preparing for the onslaught of the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, glad I live so far from the coast. Trapper got 11 hogs over the weekend but still seeing larger sounder’s on the cameras. Trapper will be removing the traps after next weekend, says they get used to them & will avoid after a time but will return & place in a different site if necessary, moving them to a ranch about 15 miles from here. Ordered a preprinted batting for making wine bottle totes from June Taylor, a quilt as you go type project, if they turn out well plan for them to be Christmas gifts. Ordered from Patched Works in Elm Grove Wi, on sale & received in less than a week, check out their online shop. Have fun with you new acquisitions & can’t wait to see everything.
Nikki M – Good Morning! I read your email to Rick and we talked about those awful hogs – again! Yes, we escaped the storm and were thankful but I don’t envy those who are in the path of the hurricane. I think I dreamed about my. Ew fabric last night!
I love adding to my stash! I need another room…lol!
I’m looking forward to seeing what Connie and you bought! It’s always inspiring.
What a tease!! Can’t wait to see what you bought!!
And here I was going to head down to your way after the holiday weekend to check out this shop someone posted on FaceBook saying it was fabulous. Suhdron Fabrics in Monona, Iowa.
Deb B – I need to look into this shop!
What fun! That is a long way to go, but it looks like it was a very worthwhile trip:) Lots of ads today. I looked up Waite Park to see where it was in relation to Sherburn, MN. My Nana left Northern Ireland in 1905 to settle in Sherburn. Please hurry and post your pictures of your “treasures”!
I wanna see the fabrics soon!!
Gruber’s is a wonderful store. But right now I’m trying to catch up with sewing some of my previous shopping. I did go to Sewing Seeds in New Ulm and bought a kit which I am just excited about so I can understand the joy you’ve shared with us.
I love Gruber’s. My daughter lives in St Cloud and I always visit their quilt shop when I visit from CA.
Sounds like a perfect day! Isn’t it amazing how new fabric can brighten a quilter’s world.i hope you had a good sleep because I’m anxious to see inside those bags.
Mary,
Looked @ Gruber’s online. Isn’t quilt shopping therapy fun? Great assortments of enjoyable varieties!
Waiting to see your new treasures!
Big rains, 60 mph gusts with electrical storms thru the night here! Looks like the haze has subsided! I missed the bright blue Idaho sky!
I just can’t wait to see what you and connie bought!
How fun, can’t wait to see what you got!!
Arent we lucky in Minnesota to have nice shops! Come anytime, we need your tax dollars!!
You hit up 2 of the best in the state. I shop at both. I also took the trip to your shop when you were open. Loved going there!
Great day! Fun to spend the day with a friend and when you throw in quilting it’s perfect! I used to get to Gruber’ s when the Mn quilt show was in St Cloud. Do you ever visit the garden in St Cloud? It’s nice.
After my daughter moved we found that the Calico Hutch at Hayward is about halfway between us so if we can’t make the whole trip we meet there.
Looking forward to all the pretty quilts you will make with your new acquisitions!
