Prednisone is a miracle drug! I descended slowly downstairs this morning one unsteady step at a time. This afternoon I walked straight up the steps not even using the bannister. Unbelievable! I took my 15 mg of Prednisone right after my bowl of cereal this morning. By 1 pm I was in the MRI machine so I couldn’t tell anything – ha! Wouldn’t you just know I had a short coughing spell in the middle of the MRI!!!!
Everyone knows taking Prednisone for any length of time creates weight gain. I looked it up and it’s mostly because it causes huge hunger pains! Also water weight is gained in the face and neck. Ugh. I’d rather buy bigger pants than live inside that all consuming pain however so it is what it is.
I’m a bad sleeper anyway so I’m going to make myself get out of bed and move to the sewing room instead of laying there hoping I’ll sleep. Dang.
So I’m feeling really bad about Hazel who stayed in the car with Rick and Keeper. She whined and jumped at the window and even jumped out when I got back. We got home and she peed and peed! Oh, the poor baby girl – and still she held it till we got home. That also explains why she didn’t want any of my ice cream on the way home. I should have known something was wrong!!!! Dang –
When we got home my old golf cart had been delivered back to me with a new throttle cable so we tried it out right away and I think it was happy to race down the wilderness trail again! I know I was!

I got a thank you note from Agnes via Joy – she’s enjoying her cards that you kind gals sent just recently. Now Connie’s sister Diane is next.

Iowa moves on to the Elite 8!!! Tomorrow it’s Iowa State’s turn.

I’m sorry to hear you have PMR, so very painful, but happy to hear prednisone is helping. My mother-in-law was on it for three years for the same reason. She didn’t get the swelling or weight gain, but she did get diabetes. I hope it’s all positives for you and the PMR eventually goes away.
Holly – I am always so interested in hearing about others who have or had PMR – I have lots to learn. To top it off I have 2 of the 4 tendons in the right rotator cuff torn with bursitis and tendinitis thrown in. I have taken getting old to a whole new level!
I’m so sorry to hear that. You are sure in a world of hurt. It seems like it just keeps piling up on you. I had a friend whose mother also had PMR and lived with her. Her mom couldn’t even lift a book to read for the pain, had to lay books on a pillow on her lap, and here you are hauling fifty pound feed bags. You are one tough cookie. I hope things lighten up soon!
Hi Mary
So so so glad you are feeling better! Thank God!!!!
Love all the pics of quilts and animals
Thankyou!

Yep prednisone is a miracle drug. Works right away too. I didn’t give a heck about the weight gain since I knew I wouldn’t be on it forever. I would have done just about anything to be rid of the pain. I’m thankful you are feeling better and able to enjoy life.
The last photo should be titled “Loafing on the Lake.” So glad the meds are working for you!
Very pleased that you are feeling so much better. Enjoy your ballgames but remember to get outside for some sun!
Fran – no problem there! Very cold here this morning
Hi Mary-
So glad to hear the Prednisone is working for you. Chronic pain is the worst! Thanks for all the blog posts. Yours is the only one I read with regularity. Love the pictures, the stories, the inspiration, the advice, and the kindness shown by your readers. Enjoy all the animal adventures you post about. I have to mention though, Mortie is so photogenic and has this “presence” when I see her in your pictures. Her spirit just shines through and you can sense what a special friend she is to you. Keep feeling better!
Wendy – don’t you agree Mortie is God sent?
Mary, When I think I will have trouble getting to sleep, I take Tylenol PM. I have no idea if you can take it and other drugs together so maybe check with doctors. Another trick Carol Burnett had was to take in as much air as you can, then keep it up again and again, when you can’t take in any more air, expel it again and again and again. She said to do that 10 times but I fall asleep before that happens.
What a relief you can be pain free. Bless you.
Have a great day everyone.
Janet – I’ve taken Ambien for so many years I’m completely addicted but so was my mom and as Becky and I always say -“we don’t have that much time left”. I also take melatonin and a CBD gummy!!!
While getting the card ready to send Diane I was going through the stamps I had in my special box and discovered a small amount of “quilling stamps. ” remember them. I will now use the ones I have left for cards you mention.
Glad the prednisone worked and that the MRI is over. So nice that your golf cart is back and you can ride to the wilderness trail once again.
The length of time to lie still during a full body Pet scan is one hour. That tiny Benzonatate Pearl capsule controlled my bad cough that whole time. No side effects from it at all.
Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – that is amazing! I was also anxious because I couldn’t find my phone in my purse in the dressing room and I was so worried. My nurse figured it out – she called my number – and Rick answered it in the car. It had slipped out of my coat pocket! From then on I could relax much better.
Mortie is so cute! I love it when cats tuck their front paws under-neath their chests; they look really contented.
I’m glad the pain medication is working. Take Care.
👏👏👏🎉🍾🍾🍾😁 yea for the medicine. I’m with you, buying some new duds is no big deal after getting rid of that awful pain.
Poor Hazel, she must of thought her dilemma would never end.
We’ve had record setting heat this week, some records were broken by 10-12 degrees!!
Forgot to say that I am also taking Prednisone for the first four days after each chemo infusion. It does mess up your sleeping but I’m sure the good benefits of it are worth taking it. It seems to be a popular prescription. As for the weight gain it will cause, it will make up for the weight I lost during these past 6 months.
So I’ll be back where I started at the beginning of Oct. Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – but I haven’t recently lost any weight!!!
Mary, it seems you and I are still on parallel paths on some of our medical trials. I have finished the first three chemo treatments and was due to have a full body Pet scan to see if the chemo was working. But had caught a cold and cough during the week before the scan. My oncologist prescribed a tiny pearl capsule that numbed my throat so the tendency to cough was suppressed. It was approved by the Pet scan technicians before the scan. You can’t even have a cough drop because of the sugar content in it. The medicine was called Benzonatate Pearl. It worked beautifully. By the way, the lymphoma on my lung and on my liver was resolved. Praise God. Because this type of cancer has a tendency to return, I am continuing on through the second series of chemo just as a precaution. Have already had the first infusion on Tuesday. Nearly bald, but doing pretty well for my age. God has once again helped me through another bump in the road. Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – so wonderful!! Great news – I read your second comment first! I’m going to write down that med – it was a terrible feeling – almost claustrophobic needing to cough!
Years ago I used those cough pearls when I had a cold. They do calm the cough.
So glad the Prednisone is working for you. MRI ‘s seem to bring on coughing or an itch & I’m sure it’s because you have to lay still. I took Prednisone after I strained my back helping get my husband up when he fell, which was pretty often. It is a miracle drug!! I’m sure the fur babies are as happy as you than you have your cart back & they can visit the wilderness trail with you! Take care of yourself!
So glad you are feeling so much better! What a relief. Hope it lasts. Mortie is so cute on the ironing board— what a sweet sewing companion.
So happy to hear your pain is reduced. I’ve had my share of MRIs (I have MS) so can empathize with trying to “stay still” as my Grandma always said. Mortie seems like a sociable little thing!
Becky – I did not know you had MS! I suppose MRIs are easy for you now? I was in it for 30-40 min, I think!! I hated it
Sadly, I don’t find MRIs easy. My doc prescribes 1 diazepam (Valium) to get me through—I don’t have any prescriptions so don’t know if there would be interactions if you do. I’m usually in about an hour and a half. I’m very lucky, though. I responded well to medication that I took for over 30 years, and now that I’m over 65 don’t even need to take it anymore. I’m told that your immune system starts winding down at that age. I guess that’s some consolation for all the other things falling apart, lol.
Wonderful news on the prednisone working so quickly and being able to lay in the MRI machine. I’ve never taken that medication, but I know it can be helpful for so many. I bet it was wonderful to have the golf cart back in and getting to ride the wilderness trail. Its turning cold here in Wisconsin and rain for the weekend, spring has arrived.
Love seeing the great pets. May I wish you so much good luck with the prednisone! Being in pain is so bad. We all love you and want you to feel well!
