Yes, I’m watching the opening ceremonies but it’s dragging on. The new season of the Lincoln Lawyer is also on tonight – can’t wait to catch up with Mickey Holler again – love this series.
Tim is still here – he is a mystery. And Barney would like to come in the house but I’m quite sure Rick will divorce me if I let him in. Hmmm ……. And Mortie is everywhere. Nancy and Kathy came to sew this afternoon and Mortie simply had to go to the house – she’s into everything. And Hazel was being a pain, too, so she had to go to the house – she was not happy.
Here’s DD#4 – border next and then the quilting. I have decided I do not like sewing under a deadline! I already have orders sitting here for this quilt pattern. That doesn’t feel good to me – it’s pressure! I don’t think I work well under pressure. Haha!

What was the vote on the name? Several of you suggested Wilderness Trail. Any other ideas please? when you receive the pattern it was originally called Touch of Spring.
Remember this big snow drift?

Very misleading because the high winds blow it into the grove.
Here’s the yard – hardly any snow. It’s all out in the grove!

I thought of another name, but I simply can’t remember it now!!! It was something like Keepers Path.
The big blocks in the middle can be any season. From winter snow drifts to Christmas gingerbread cookies.
Keeper’s picture is precious.
I’m watching PBS. Those folks that bought a village told the deer come and eat the olives off the trees! And the bears come and snack on their gardens. We all have issues.
I’m intrigued how those ice skaters spin so fast. It’s amazing.
Jo – oh, I love it! Keepers Path
I tried to watch the Olympics but we were having issues with the internet so our tv kept going blurry, clear, blurry, clear. Each time it lasted about 10 seconds. Gave me a headache.
I like Gloria B’s suggested to name the quilt “in your corner” and especially like all the reasons given.
My sewing room is just about put back, I will wait a month to hang the shelves back up so the paint has time to cure.
I’ve finished my DD #4 I will send a picture. Today is a day I’m taking it easy on my knee and back. Gotta save up for the last room to have the carpet ripped out and laminate put down. Though I’m working on making 2 loaves of sourdough dough bread and two loaves of sourdough raisin cinnamon bread.
It’s a beautiful day today and I’m sitting outside reading comments with a cup of tea. Doesn’t get any better than this.
What a sweet picture of Keeper.
I think a great name for your quilt would be “Mary’s grove”. Thanks for your daily posts, I always look forward to them.
Mary, your blocks look great. Please take your time with the rest of the process. Like was said earlier, it should be fun for you as well. Keeper’s look – keeping an eye on you. What a great dog! It was a bit warmer here today. We got just a bit of snow Thursday, just enough to glaze the sidewalks. As I was taking my nephew home from school, I fell on my brother’s walkway! I swear it must’ve looked like one of America’s Funniest Videos! My feet went out from under me and down I went onto my right side (where I’ve had that shoulder & knee replaced). I just layed there a minute to see if I was OK. As I tried to get up, there go my feet again, then the butt was sliding, luckily my brother and other nephew came out and helped me get up and into the garage. I’m still sore but It could’ve been so much worse!
So, please stay upright! Have a great night all!
Teresa – oh, you are lucky you didn’t do damage to your shoulder and knee!!!! Yup, too bad somebody didn’t have a camera! Hahah!
Not watching the Olympics, I did years ago. I really like Keepers picture! I just drove by your house on the way to Clear Lake. Do you think they have put enough salt on the highway? It was a cloud when someone passed me.
Lynn – I just came back from town – the road is white!!! Yes, I think they overdid it a bit.
I think Wilderness Trail is the perfect name for your quilt pattern. The strips on the sides of the block form a trail that meanders around the quilt, leading to glimpses of the pretty things to see in the blocks. And we all know how you love your Wilderness Trail.
I’m sure whatever name you choose will be great, and that design will look good in many kinds of fabrics, florals, novelty…
Yes, I’ll be watching the Olympics. Long opening ceremony. I’m glad I watched it in the afternoon.
Sorry you’re feeling pressure about your pattern. I think everyone understand and will be glad to wait until you are ready.
It will be interesting to see everyone’s take on your pattern.
Wishing you the best this cold Saturday morning. Poor Barney.
Carolyn – I got all the blocks done last night so now I’m home free. I can think of so many other ways to make this quilt – a big floral would be my next choice.
I love my dogs; but, these days I live in a city and my wonderful Norwegian Elkies need the farm! I do adore my kitties and have one indoor and three (sometimes a 4th troublemaker) on my outdoor porch. Kitties are such contradictions. The sweetest, most loving, clever, intelligent, softest, naughty, adorable companions. Can’t live without them. Can’t say the same for husbands.
Marlene – ditto about the husbands! Ha! Do you know anyone in the country who the dogs could visit? Wish you lived close to me – I’m all fenced in and they’d be safe and couldn’t escape.
Gloria B., I like your reasons for the “in your corner” name for the block, all so spot on! Olympics will be watched of and on over the next two weeks. Isn’t the Wise Monkey in Denison, Iowa? Keeper’s portrait can steal one’s heart.
Mary,
Lovely post. Your blocks are great. Quilts from the last few days also very nice. As always!
I am working on my February UFO.
We watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics but I found it was too long! My husband watched every minute of it. We are watching it on and off now.
Michigan and Michigan State, #1 and #2 in college hockey had a great game last night and they play again today.
I loved seeing all the cards sent in the photo from yesterday and I even saw the one I sent! I’m so glad she enjoyed them.
It is 10° here but feels like -2. The wind is very gusty and I heard it several times during the night. I’m going to gather the eggs right now and check on the state of the water for the chickens. Have a great day everyone. 🌻
Sunflower – I, too, saw the card I sent – that was fun! Poor Brenda. Until you’re a recipient of the card party, it’s hard to appreciate.
How is Tim’s ear?
No not watching the Olympics! Always did yrs ago as I particularly like winter sports! Skating has my heart
I am on another retreat starting tomorrow afternoon. thru. Thurs.! I am busy prepping for that. I will be at Wise Monkey Retreat Center if anyone is interested in seeing what that looks like. There are pics online I think.
Fran – I’m going to look up Wise Monkey! Tim’s ear looks pretty good – without any help from me.
Watched part of the ceremonies last night, but switched to Netflix. Watching The Beast In Me – a thriller series. I think I like it.
Been following the Nancy Guthrie disappearance. So sad for her family – I can’t even imagine.
Finally starting my winter quilt project today. With my strep throat, and the stomach flu last week – just has not been a top priority. But today is the day! I feel the need for speed! My sewing machine, that is!!
My cat has become my alarm clock. 4:30 every morning she stands in my bedroom door and tells me it’s time to get up. I have no idea what her problem is – she’s got food and she knows she can come up to cuddle. She just wants to yell I guess. Cats…..
Diana – I watched The Beast In Me and thought it was really really good!!! I, too, am a bit obsessed about Nancy Guthrie – I think of my own mom years ago in Texas – what if something like this had happened to her?
Yes. Watching as much Olympics as I can from start to finish. Love the Winter Olympics, best.
We did not watch the Olympics tonight. We have both been sick off and on since Christmas and have not been paying attention to tv.
Our weather here have been fairly moderate, so we did go out for lunch today.
I love the project quilt and will be happy with whatever name is decided.
Too bad little Mortie was a pain at the sewing session. Maybe she will improve with age. I am glad Tim stopped by for nourishment and meds. Barney is adorable.
Have a nice weekend. 🥰
Jeanie – oh, I hope you’re feeling better!!! Such a drag to be sick for so long.
I love the Olympics! Opening ceremonies were different but still exciting!❤️Will be fun the next two week! Cheer on Lindsay Vaughn!
I sent Brenda a card!
Mary Ellen – yes, she is a legend for sure!!! And I’ll be watching
How about “in your corner” for the block name?
Why that name?
– Cornerstones are dominant in the block and make block sing
– You are always leading the charge with card showers to be “jn their corner”
– Your posts share what’s happening “ In your corner”
– We’ll all want to see what people choose for fabrics “in your corner”
– “in your corner” denotes empathy and kindness and we could all use some more of that these days
Gloria B – wow! What a great suggestion!
Whatever you decide will be great!
I’ve been watching the Olympics and enjoy every moment of anything related to winter. ❄️. I received 9 cards today! So awesome! I loved reading the notes people wrote. I feel like I’ve made 9 new friends! One nice lady from MN sent me a quilt block. It was made from 30’s reproduction fabrics which I adore! I’m eternally grateful to this community and their card ministry to those who need a boost. I’ve participated in sending a card when I remembered but I’m going to make it a habit to send a card anytime there is someone who needs a day brightener. What a blessing today has been.
Brenda – oh, I’m so glad we could make a bright spot in your day!! Isn’t this a great group of ladies?
I must be in the minority, I thought the opening ceremonies of the Olympics was beautiful and inspiring. my family is athletic I guess but not at Olympic standards.
Mary I understand the feeling of being pressured to complete the task at hand. Remember this was suppose to be fun for everyone, even you! I hope you find the joy again as you continue to create!
Your right, no snow in the yard but plenty in the grove. We received 3-4 fresh inches this morning to go with the 11 or so still frozen solid to the ground! And….is is going to be “bone chilling” here in the hills of the Hocking Valley in SE Ohio tomorrow, 6 degrees at 7 am.
Best wishes to you for a great weekend. Karen
Karen – isn’t that really really cold for your area? It’s cold for here, too, but we get a lot of it. I love watching the Olympics and will be very entertained for the next 2 weeks!
I have likely felt the pressure because I haven’t felt well. I think it’s a great and very versatile block! Can’t wait to see what everyone does with it.
I am a person who was never athletic and played basketball where we couldn’t go full court but had to pass the ball to someone on the other half of the court so I became a rooter not cheerleader (not athletic) but someone has to cheer and that is me. I thought the opening ceremony was boring but have caught several preliminary contests today. I love curling and my son said it was like watching paint dry until he visited Canadian friends who took him curling and said he has a new respect for the game. Tougher than it looks. I try to start a hand project at the beginning of the games and finish at closing ceremonies. I watch a lot of Olympics. Enjoy
Do you watch the WNBA Unrivaled games? We like them. I’m also looking forward to the Lincoln Lawyer.
Julie – yes, I also watch Unrivaled games but I can’t wait for the WNBA season to begin !
