Arlo Visits the Farm

Arlo, a nine week old English black lab puppy came to visit with his owner, my friend Ginny.

He differs from an American Labrador in his shorter wider stature and square head.  I call him “wide load” and he is the cutest black lab puppy you’ll ever meet.

I made him a quilt with his name on it.

I think it likes it!

Loved the photos of Arlo. I have had three English Labradors over the years – one black and two yellow. People would always say they were overweight (when they were not), because of their bigger rib cage and shorter legs. A totally different look from an American Labrador.

Yup!! Looks like he wants it for himself!! I was thinking he was pretty good size for just 9 weeks!! A real cutie!!

As another former Labrador family, I have got to say there is nothing better than Labrador love!! They are amazing!. Love the pic of Arlo on his quilt – so cute!

Nice boy! He is big. I showed the post to Zena and she is wondering if we come and visit, will she get a quilt with her name on it? Have a nice day Mary.

What a cutie pie with his own quilt now. Will Connie and Hope be coming for a look-see?

    Hi Mary,
    He is absolutely gorgious.
By the way, I got a text from Kelly and my lambs are doing extremely well in the cooler weather of Ohio. This makes my heart feel better. It’s so hot here. But my heart still misses them. Working on a block of the month project I’ve had for many a year. Now that my binding jobs are slow I have some me time until Xmas quilts start coming to me for bindings. Take care Mary, ❤️🐩 Texas

That must have been the kind of Black our neighbors had for a grand dog. When she was a pup her feet were wider than the palm of my hand and she grew up into a wide, sturdy dog. She was just plain wide and big, but a very good dog.
We actually got 1.1″ yesterday afternoon and then .3″ overnight. It hasn’t forgotten how to rain. There was marble and pea sized hail but it didn’t do too much damage. Some places got 6″ in a short period and baseball size hail….. And I think a road washed out south east of town. It makes me remember about three years ago when the 2 ladies were going home to Colorado from working in the Baaken in North Dakota. It was dark and they hit a spot where the road was washed out. The one lady survived being washed at least a mile down stream and the other lady drowned and she wasn’t found for almost a year. Another reason not to drive at night?

Love that Arlo. . .yes, a real cutie and I bet he is going to be a wonderful big dog. Pleased to meet Ginny as well. The quilt is so sweet. What a generous gift! I was wondering what technique you used for the beautiful lettering? It is so fun to see his name on the quilt. The doggie faces in the blocks are a great dog addition to the quilt. Thanks for always sharing your creativity and talents. ❤️

Arlo is a lucky dog to have his own quilt. It is a sweet gift for such a cutie. Mary, do you remember saying you didn’t see Collies much anymore? My husband and I were discussing that and agreeing with you. Tonight on our bike path, I saw a large black one and a large golden one, like Lassie on TV. Funny. Just when we were thinking they were not around, there were two!!

I love reading your blog. I’m a very happy person reading all that you write. I took a class from you in Atascadero, Calif. many years ago, and you had just had shoulder surgery. You were so gracious and peppy and inspiring! I still hang up my “Morning Glory” every Spring.
I was curious, though…do you still have the white puppy?
I’m sorry that people have sent you not-nice emails.

Love reading about Iowa and you!

I also made the Noah’s Ark quilt and gave it to my daughter-in-law who loves it very much!

Oh thank you so much for teaching me something I didn’t know and that is about English labs. He is so so so cute! Oh to smell him and hold his wiggliness for just a minute. I know you are having fun with him and you are so kind to make him his own blankie!

Arlo is gorgeous! I’ve never heard of an English blackie, thank you for sharing his pics. He totally loves his little quilt! You’re such a wonderfully thoughtful lady. Much love to you.

Arlo looks like such a sweet, sharp fellow. He cuddles right up to that foot peddle. Bet it wouldn’t take much for him to be using it to sew…
