Oh my GOODNESS Mary! Thank you, thank you! Thank you, but we have to find an easier way for you, or we need to take turns with the monthly list, or limit it each month, or something! This is just too much for you, our beloved book captain!

Wow. As a retired English teacher, it does my heart good to see how many books people love and read:)
I agree with Jean, you have done soooo much work on this. Is there an easier way?

  3. Martha

Thank you Mary for all your work on the book list and the patterns you offer to us. I love your blog and close all the ads I find. Hope you have a wonderful day of reading!

Mary “thank you” ! A few I’ve read & would have recommended but so very many I wish to read. But “when will we Quilt or knit”? 🤣. Maybe in bed as we end our day.
Thanks again Mary. I only saw one ad but I did open it.

That is a wonderful list of books and I have read many of them. All week I was going to contribute and just didn’t get to it. I was surprised A Gentleman in Moscow by Amos Towles, Inheriting Edith by Zoe Fishman, and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr were not there or I just missed them. I thought they were fabulous reads and somewhat newer books. I pass my books around to friends and have several who do the same. I really enjoy sharing books. I have been known to get CD’s from the library and listen to them on my laptop while I sew.

WOW! So many great books to read – but we still have to do our quilting! Thank you, so much, Mary, for putting this all together. You continue to be amazing. I love your new name: “Book Captain” – how perfect and only adds to Quilt Captain as well with Connie joining you in that! Thanks again!!

  9. Kristine F

WOW – what a great listing and I’m sure it will only grow as people read more books and offer suggestions.
Thank you Mary for stepping up and being the Book Captain.
    Have a fantastic weekend.

Goodness! Thanks Mary, what a huge list, but what fun!

PS: the list on the yellow paper is the easiest to read on screen.

Patricia G. Hayes – here’s the short explanation about the ads. When you click on an ad or close an ad, you are paying me for time spent writing this blog. It takes hours each week and we have expenses to cover. When you open or close an ad, no money is being paid by you because those advertisers pay us for putting their ads on our blog site. It’s a win-win situation for all of us but it takes many clicks because each click pays pennies on the dollar. See? If you have more questions, feel free to post again in this comment section.

HI Mary or someone, What is this about, “ADs”??

Sorry about that but this is not a duplicate request.

Thank you for the book listing! I’m excited about adding other authors to my list. I listen to Audio books while I sew..so hopefully I can find some of these on tape. This is such a wonderful group. Always enjoy what’s happening up there regarding the animals, Reed, you and Rick. Stay warm.

This list is such a great gift! I’m excited to start researching authors and books I’m not familiar with. Thank you so much, Mary.

Thank you for all your hard work “Book Captain”! So good to see so many favorite books and authors, many of them I have read, but had forgotten about until now. As others posted, when will we have time to quilt with all the good books to read…not enough hours in the day!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Lisa Chaplin – did you see DianeMatthews’ comment about your book list? She loves what you love!

  16. Jo in Wyo.

Mary, this is beautiful. Oh! Your poor hands, they must be aching. This list is enough to keep fast reader entertained for years. Thank you so much.
The sun is finally shining today, the solar is running and the temps should go up a little.
After a little bit of moisture, Miss Loretta comes in with black feet. I’m sure she has been running thru the garden. Hazel, I know never does that!!!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Jo in Wyoming – Hazel runs through all the mud and so does Telly! That’s why we have bare floors – easier to clean!

  17. Patty Turner

Thank you so much for doing all this work! I’m looking forward to reading this winter!!

  18. patti leal

great job! thanks for doing this. i’ve read many on this list. am currently reading ‘the whispering room’ by dean koontz – the 2nd one of the jane hawk series. fyi, nightingale was written by kristen hannah. i have a spiral bound notebook to keep lists of book recommendations. i can never die. between books to read and fabric to sew up. plus a house to greatly downsize so my kids won’t have to go through what i’m going through trying to clean out my mother’s house (grew up poor, never threw anything away). i strongly suggest that on the upcoming fridays you only add the books from that week. otherwise you will never have time to do anything else. thanks again. patti in florida (far away from michael)

  19. Jacque

I just made screenshots of each page so I can print them out. I have a little notebook that I keep names of books in to reserve at the library (alphabetically by author). I’ve been getting lots of new book ideas from Facebook since I follow several publishers as well as reading and book groups. I know I’ll be adding many more to my list – thanks for doing this, Mary, Book Captain!

Jacque – list master is another great moniker – you must make lots of lists!

Thank you so much Book Captain Mary for taking the time to do this. I read in bed when I waken at 3am it is silent, my sewing machine might wake the others in the house. I also read while waiting for Doctors who are not punctual.

  21. Carolyn Knott

I want to thank you. I’ll be on the lookout for audible books too because I listen to books while sewing.

You have really worked hard on this and you are very much appreciated. I do x the ads.

    Hi Mary,
Thankyou very much for the booklist and the pinwheel block pattern. Just what I needed😍

Wow, Mary! You probably need a hot wax treatment for your hands after all that work! Thank you for the list.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Felicia – and I have one of those hot wax containers – I use it pretty often.

  24. Lee

Captain Mary, you have done so much….we all really appreciate it. Can’t wait to print out the lists . Lee in North Carolina

Thank you for the Book List. When I first saw it all I could think was how much time it took to make it! In the future, should someone suggest a book title I will then add to it the list you started. From comments it’s evident others really appreciate your blog and want to save you time and work, too. Thanks again.

    1. Sherry Whalen

Diane, are you on a laptop? I was able to right click on each image and save it to my desktop. When I opened the image up from my desk top, I had the option to enlarge it, that might make it easier to read.

    2. CountryThreads Post author

Diane Muldoon – enlarge each photo – that will make all the difference in the world! I’m sure you’ll be able to read it then.

  26. Pam in KY

THANK YOU for the book list!! Your blog is by far my favorite of all the blogs I have tried over the years!! I look forward to seeing it pop up in my feed and read it immediately! We all have so many interests in common….and now BOOKS too!! I have read many of the books on the list but I am finding some great new ones to try. Anything you can do to manage this list more easily will sure get our cooperation…we all appreciate all you do so much!!…and wish we were your next door neighbor!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Pam in KY – I wish you girls were close by – we like so many of the same things and I miss having friends who love animals, quilting, gardening and reading. I know you’re as close as my blog post however and I love our continued conversations!

For everyone who is trying to decide if they will sew or read – check out your local library to see if they have audio library programs like Overdrive, Libby, Hoopla etc – then you can do both at the same time! And all for free! My local library has Overdrive with 1000s of audio and ebooks that can be checked out online and down loaded to your phone, computer, or tablet. It is an amazing way to spend time. I listen while doing cooking, housework and yard work (makes the time fly by) in addition to sewing. There is a wish list and you can put books on hold when if they are all loaned out, just like library books. All you need is your library card and a listening device. I look at the books and descriptions on my lap top and add them to my wish list. The books are loaned out for 21 days (my library anyway), but honestly – many books are 10 to 20 hours of listening time and it doesn’t seem to take many days to finish a book. Most books I have listened to I have ‘upped’ the listening speed to 1.2x or 1.4x, so it takes a bit less time. It has really changed my book reading life – especially for me to sit and read = nap for me….. As long as I keep moving I can listen!!!

Thank you for taking the time to make this list Mary! I was pretty excited to see many that I have already enjoyed – and many more to add to my Overdrive wish list! Thanks to everyone for the book title contributions!

  28. Beryl BC

Just as the others have said, it is a great list. Some are already loved books and many new ones. Thank you for the time you put into it.

  29. Pat Smith

Thanks so much for this list and to everyone who suggested audio books. This is something I haven’t tried as I’m not much of an audio learner, but I’m going give it a try so that perhaps I will be able to listen and sew at the same time.
