Celebrating My Birthday, 7-3-23

Today I’m 75 years old and this book Oh, Susannah! is my gift to myself!

This is Susannah’s baby book and story of her humble beginnings as a rejected twin. Many of you knew her at various ages – when she was a baby she was the picture of sweetness but as she got older she became a cantankerous goat who would butt anybody who got close. I didn’t mention that in the book – haha!

I’m hoping all you grandmas will purchase a book to read to your kiddos. I’ve saved this book reveal for this day, my 75th birthday as the really fun thing I’m doing to celebrate.

The book can be purchased locally at Junkin Gal located on Main Street Garner for $15.00 or it is available by mail for $20.00. I can only accept cash or check made out to me, Mary ETHERINGTON, 2345 Palm Ave. Garner, IA 50438. Tax is included in the price of the book.

Inside your book you’ll find a free pattern for this project which isn’t quilted yet – I know you understand.

I fully intend to add some type of pieced border to each of these projects – it’s on my list of things to do. I know you understand that, too. Haha!

This book journey has been a sweet memory for me as I think my time with Susannah as a baby was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life! There are many pictures with the text so any child who doesn’t read yet can “read” the story through pictures.

I’ve gotten so many birthday greetings it’s humbling at best – thank you to all! But this is my favorite:

Don’t ya love it? Thank you, Diane, for a great laugh!

I’ve been waiting a whole month to reveal my beloved children’s book, a culmination of 22 years of thinking about it – haha!

Today this blog is about SOMETHING!

PS – $20 by mail, cash or check made out to Mary ETHERINGTON, 2345 Palm Ave, Garner, IA 50438 or $15.00 locally at Junkin Gal.

Happy, happy birthday! 75 years YOUNG (you’re just a few years older than I am!)….hope this day is really, really special for you. Love the book you’ve had published to celebrate your birthday, and to keep a special memory alive for yourself – that’s wonderful.

Happy Birthday fellow farm girl! I do hope you have a happy fun filled day without worries or cares. And if someone brings you a cake, eat plenty and a piece for me!

I love that card, but oh my, I have tender boobs and the mere thought of kneeling on them brings tears! My younger sister is big breasted and she will joke and pull her pj pants up high and tuck hers in the pants but hopefully hers will never be at her knees!

Happy Birthday again and may you have many many more!!

    1. Jeanne in Co.

Happy, Happy Birthday, Mary. What a great way to celebrate your 75th birthday. We have all been looking forward to Savannah’s story book. My check will be in the mail as soon as I send this email. I too, hope that you will autograph the books for us. Have a super special day and celebrate a bit instead of working all day. You certainly deserve it.
Loved the gardening cartoon. I’m sure a lot of us “oldies” can relate to not being able to kneel any more. But, thank goodness, not quite that bad. Ha Ha. Jeanne in Co.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mary – “It’s Great to be an American!!” Inside joke but all the same happy birthday!! Your card is in the mail and I know you can understand that one too – always a day late and a little behind but seems at 72 I am a little slower for some reason. Can’t wait to get a book I so remember her and yes I got head butted a time or too. She was sweet tho I remember her as a baby. Have a great day!!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Mareen – proud to be an American…. Da da dadada! Hahaha!!!!

Wishing you a very, very Happy Birthday, Mary! I hope you take the time today to celebrate your 75 years of life. Believe me, these years seem to go quickly the older we get. I savor each day I have. I am grateful for relatively good health, my family, my friends, my faith, and of course–my Bailey Girl–who makes my life interesting. I love reading your blog, too, which contributes to the interesting part of life. How is Rick doing?

  26. Kathryn Malm

    Happy Birthday Mary!
Remember, age is only a number! I have reached the 80’s and quit counting!
I have so many quilts to make , they’ll have to wait until winter. Now I picked up
another addiction, making junk journals. I love making them but are just as time
consuming as quilting. I have several gardens in the yard to care for too. I don’t
know how I can live long enough! We are living in northern Minnesota, in the woods.
I have been wondering about your book, I have seen (virtually of course) that adorable
goat grow up over the years!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kathryn – sounds like you’re pretty busy for an 80+ year old! I have so many things I want to do that I’ll certainly run out of time before ideas. Susannah had many fans that watched her grow up –

  27. Beverly Custer

Happiest of Birthdays…hope you enjoy every minute! I so love your blog, thank you for that gift to us…I’d like this book, it looks like a fun one.
My only comment on age, from anelderlt friend, ‘I always knew I’d get old, I’m just so surprised how fast it happened!’…she said shee read it somewhere, and that’s just a perfect description.

  28. Dale

Happy birthday 😊. Your blog is always about something. It disappoints me each time you say it is about nothing.
It is about caring for others and making people smile.
Sometimes it is about disappointments we can all relate to.
Give yourself a break and step up there and say “what I write is important, people care about me”. They enjoy my blog that is always about something❤️

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Dale – I do know that but when I say it’s about nothing I mean it’s nothing earth shattering, just everyday life on a small Iowa farm.

  29. Sharon F

Have the Happiest of Birthdays! And congratulations on releasing your book!

  30. Fiona at Ice Bear Quilts

  46. Betty Klosterman

Happy Birthday, Mary, and many more. And I bought that card but never had the courage to mail it to somebody! I’ve still got it.
Congratulations on “Susannah.” The book looks delightful.
Just happened to see somebody missed me. I’ve had some computer problems, nothing major, just past my abilities to fix. A good friend was getting their first grandchild — twins. A boy and a girl….. so I was making “I Spy” quilts for them. They were born last Wednesday, 2 girls!! Back to the drawing board. Or could a little girl have a race track on hers? Or maybe a harbinger she will become a race car driver? She won’t need it for a few months. But I am getting slower….. Take care, everybody. Betty in Rapid City

    1. Connie R.

Betty, Glad to hear that you got your computer problems figured out and, all is well.

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Betty – Surprise! How could they mistake a girl for a boy? The girls will probably both want the race car quilt! Ha!

    3. Diane, Squeak, and Buddy in Central Ohio

Hi Etsy, I new we had the same sense of humor and Ike’s Mary would laugh th at the card😹😹 Hope your computer is ok. Good luck with the quilts;;that is really nice.😃

  56. Sue in PA

Happy birthday Mary! Loved the card! I always pick up cards like that when I am at the card section of a store because I have two friends who I call my “Boob card friends”, who receive one from me every year. They look forward to them. You can’t send them to just anyone. It has to be a friend with a good sense of humor who appreciates that kind of thing. I think it’s hilarious!
Congratulations on your book also! Wish I could have known your little goat.
    Hope Rick is doing well.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sue – Diane sent me the card with a note that said – I know you don’t look like this but I thought it was so hilarious I bought three of them! Haha!

I’m sure you’ll be receiving many many birthday greetings on your blog.

    Enjoy the blog.

  61. Montana Kathy

Best wishes for a very happy birthday! Congrats on your book – can’t wait to read it. I don’t know if you get “you tube” videos on your TV, but we’ve been watching one that features young goats (maybe 30 or more) all having a great time chasing each other around, on top of hay bales, pushing each other off and hopping around like “wild hooligans”(as my Scottish grandmother would say). Just having enormous fun cavorting around the barn. Boy, are they cute! Sounds like it might be boring to watch, but it’s a hoot! They are so adorable. And each successive video shows them getting a wee bit bigger, which is fun to watch. Anyway, enjoy your day!🤪 – and spoil yourself (eat lots of cake as calories don’t count on your birthday!!🤗

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Montana Kathy – I am very familiar with those baby goat videos! I love them!!
