Cheryl

Many of you are past Country Threads customers and likely remember Cheryl Barkema who worked here for several years.  Cheryl passed away on Tuesday and Connie and I want to extend our deepest sympathy to Cheryl’s husband Don and her 3 daughters, Jill, Julie and Kari.  Cheryl had a stroke a few years ago and her life changed dramatically.  Here are some of the many pictures I have of Cheryl at the shop.

Our book “Use It Up..” Staff photo on the back cover – wow, there were lots of us back then!

This photo and all the quilt photos in our book “At the Lake” were taken in Cheryl’s beautiful home.

Cheryl loved the fall season – it was her favorite decorating theme and our shop reflected her good taste.

And my favorite picture of Cheryl!  Susannah is waiting for Cheryl at the bottom of the ladder and Cheryl knows it – ha!  Cheryl is putting up fall decorations and Susannah just wants to butt her.  Isn’t this just the cutest picture ever?  I love it!  And I loved both of them and now they’re both gone.  Heaven will now be decorated more lovely than ever if Cheryl gets a hand in it.

Cheryl was such a nice and sweet person in the shop and definitely had a decorating talent. The picture with her on the ladder and Susannah below pretty much sums up “A day at the shop”! Prayers to her family.

How nice that you have those photos saved, and indeed, that Susannah (one of your favorites, also dearly missed) looks like she’s up to no good! The Lord had better like pumpkins and haystacks!

Hi, Thanks for sharing. I have your book and hope to make some of the quilts one of these days. I also think I also have one called “Wear Warm Clothes” which has the cutest quilt of that name in it. Would love to make that one, too! Sorry for the loss of your friend and fellow quilter. Marsha

So sorry for your loss of a friend. I think Cheryl waited on me years ago when I had the pleasure of visiting your shop. I have that quilt book and have made several quilts from it.

It’s hard to lose our friends. Yesterday facebook reminded me of a friend’s birthday. She died last fall. But it brought some fun memories flooding back. Take care.

So very sorry for your loss. I can see from the pictures that she had a contagious smile. You are blessed to have so many memories and pictures.
Is the quilt shown in the picture also in the book “At the Lake”? It is stunning.
