Dirty Dozen Day, 10-1-26

Here’s your number for October – 8 – eight.

Find your #8, finish it by the end of October, take a picture and send it to my email.

It’s been another cloudy day – chilly with no sun till after supper.

As I walked to the barn to close for the night
Light in the west!

I cleaned plants all afternoon – spray with Dawn solution in my hand sprayer – leaves top and bottom, the pot – even the bottom – checking for bugs. In one pot, several spiders hurried out and another pot had some type of worm. Ick!

I just love these plants! They feel like pets – but taking care of them all winter is not that fun, which reminds me to fill more jugs from the rain barrel. I’m going to add a few more grow lights this year in the piano room.

Game over – to say I’m disappointed would be a travesty. The Fever lost to the Aces and are done for the season. I will miss those gals so much!

Millie is so much better – actually has some strength returning – went out the dog door today! That Gerber baby food is working! Deano, not so much – the side of his mouth is swollen and looks awful but he acts good! I don’t want to put him down if he isn’t miserable and in evident pain. ooh, this will be hard. This is not pretty but here he is.

My vet says there’s nothing he can do – surgery would be too extensive. Poor Deano.

I’ll leave you with a prettier picture.

Barney and Millie
Mortie and Millie
Deano and Hazel”

Just a few plants in so far.

Mary, I’m glad that the baby food is appealing to Millie.
One of my cats, Cherrio, ate it for several years. Sometimes the simplest things are best. Love the animal
    pictures.

Loved the pics of your home and farm and of the plants and animals. Made me smile! I am home from retreat and headed into the city for a haircut. Lunch with some quilty friends too. It’s nippy this morning. I opened my front door and a few min later I turned around and saw the outside glass door was fogged. I did not know it was that cool outside. I love it and hope to see some color on the trees soon.

Fran – I got a haircut last week – and I said repeatedly that I did NOT want a short haircut! Well – I have a very short haircut again – the last one was in May and I just needed it shaped up now. Is there a stylist on the planet that listens? Truly listens? I don’t think so. I’m back to growing my hair. To be fair this gal had never cut my hair but I was so disgusted with the last gal I just had to try someone else. Enjoyed your phot taken at retreat.

I had a hairdresser once that, after I told her what I wanted, said “let’s just see what the hair wants to do!” Are you kidding me?!?! How about since I’m paying, you at least try to give me what I want!

The barn picture and the picture of the sun in the west are beautiful! We had sun at about noon yesterday. Today will be sunny and cooler here. It was 43 when e got up.
It is our 56th Anniversary today. It was warm and breezy the day we got married. Farmers weren’t happy about going to a wedding, I’m sure! We weren’t farmers and didn’t even think about that! Haaha. Didn’t take us long to dislike city life!
    Enjoy the sun today, Mary.

Joy – HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Joy and Jay!! 56 years – about the same as Connie and Roy and Becky and Tom – I will never know. What do you mean you weren’t farmers? How did you get started farming? Yes, I will enjoy the sun – maybe I can mow tomorrow – it’s gonna take a while to dry out.

It’s 42 degrees right now and colder weather coming this week. I still need to dig potatoes and clean out the gardens. Our colored leaves are gorgeous again this year but, already at peak. Making up reasons to take rides so that I can take in the beauty before it’s all gone. I even saw a flock of geese heading south yesterday. I only wish Fall would last longer.

We had a high yesterday of 78 on the first day of October. What a warm fall we have had. Haven’t turned the heat on yet.
Our dog that we lost in May had a sore on his mouth that eventually went away and she continued to eat like nothing was wrong. It probably bothered me more than her cause humans don’t like mouth pain.

Kathy – I can only hope that’s the case with Deano – I won’t put him thru any surgery so I guess I just wait and see. It’s an ugly sore.
I wouldn’t have turned on the heat but Rick has had it on for over a month – I cannot imagine being so cold all the time. My Prednisone makes me even hotter, I think.

Sorry about your kitty issues, Mary. When to let them go is a hard decision.

I see you still have the chair with the ottoman that Three and Millie like so much.

I finished a blanket for foster children yesterday at our crochet group.

Also, praying for a friend who had surgery, is home now, but he is in lots of pain. 🙏🏻

Reading The Names by Florence Knapp. Has domestic violence in it. Makes me grateful for my husband of 42 years.

I have lots of aloe plants on my porch which stay out all year. They seem to like some shade and only need water once a week. If we leave for a week, no one has to come and water them.

    Happy October everyone!

Your barn picture is beautiful. Poor Deano. Love all your pictures. I had a hard time finding Barney in that picture with Millie, but there he is! It’s supposed to be in the 90s this weekend. Crazy weather!
