Your number for September is NINE – 9. You know what to do – find your unfinished project number 9 and finish it by the end of the month and send me a picture. Let this be your inspiration. I’m going to sew in the AC this afternoon. isn’t it a coincidence that September is also the 9th month?
I did not find the draft again so here goes. Lori at church brought two vases of lovely flowers to church on Sunday for the plant stands up front. Following church she gave them to Margaret and me. I have no blooming flowers so I’m really enjoying these.

Hank is here for the week while his mom and dad are in Gatlinburg, TN.

This is what I’m reading – it’s good! What are YOU reading?

Yesterday I hung all 4 seasons of Garden Sampler – I still love it!

Here’s a fun fact:
1912 saw the last Olympic gold medals made entirely out of gold.
Update on my log:

Ok – that does it for me. Lost and rewritten this morning. I hope this doesn’t happen again but we all know how confusing technology is.

Are the Garden Sampler patterns still available – or would the copying be prohibitive?
I just finished listening to Karolina’s Twins by Ronald H. Balson. It was very good.
I’ll try to send you a picture of a donation quilt I just finished. It was inspired by one I saw on your blog by Jeanine in Iowa made from leftover binding strips.
Tina – it’s actually just 4 pictures – this is completely made with heat n bond so when tracing the pieces you just have to include a margin when needed.
Does that mean the patterns are still available? If so, I’d buy them!
Loved today’s blog. It has all of the things…pets, quilts and plants.I can’t imagine making the Garden quilts that you showed…an 4 of them at that! They are amazing.
I love to see what others are reading. I have read several that were mentioned in today’s comments. My favorite genre would be Historical Fiction. This summer I read Skeleton’s at the Feast by Chris Bohjaliam , Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, Isola by Allegra Goodman, and A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline. I really liked all of them. In between, I read a few Nicholas Spark books for a change of pace. My Book club has chosen The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel so that is my current read.
What a great blog today. I really like the chicken quilt and Sue in MN’s quilt. Mary I think you have a quilt with that block in one of your books I have that I have marked to make. Maybe I will do that sooner rather than later. Today I finally had a break and can relax. The wedding went fantastic and for all of you that prayed the rains would stay away. A big thank you! It rain around 11 Friday night and lasted till 3 or 4am Saturday. We woke up to the sun and beautiful blue skies. Had sun and clouds all day but not too hot. The couple were so happy and they had a beautiful wedding. All was cleaned up Sunday and Monday and we are back to normal.
Well, I didn’t get the Aug dirty dozen done so it will get done this month. I need to see what this month’s project is too and I’m hoping to get back on track and complete more things.
I can’t believe it is Sept 1st. Have a wonderful day everyone.
Teresa – that’s fantastic! No rain on the wedding – wow!
Great photos. Wish Hank was visiting me but I don’t have a farm for him to run on.
I am reading The Book Club for Troublesome Women. It’s my book club book. Not sure I like it all that much and I think I have read it before. I am kind of bored with it.
I didn’t get to go to MN with friends because I have some sort of virus. So I am out of sorts besides being disappointed. Been in the sewing room a couple hrs the past two days. Just mostly cutting on a new project but my stamina is shot.
Fran – it’s going around here, too, and I hope I can avoid it. It really saps your energy.
According to my Libby app, I read the book in today’s blog in February of this year. Currently, I am enjoying the book Strangers, a memoir of marriage by Belle Burden and the Halves and Have- Yachts by Evan Osnos. I think after all the fluffy summer reads, I needed something a little more substantial.
Just finished The Things We Cannot Say and started The Nightingale. Maybe I got those suggestions from your blog? Maybe another blog? Thanks for all you do to keep us entertained and inspired.
Jane – I have read both and loved them – the Nightingale ranks in my top 5!
It’s so hot and muggy outside…..oh darn I guess will just…lol. I’m reading My Sister’s Grave by Robert Dugoni…really good I’m having a hard time putting it down. Love your blog, all the stories about farm life. Can’t wait to to start the bullseye sew along. Have a great day!
I just finished The Stillwater Girls. I liked it a lot.
Your 4 season quilts are wonderful.
I finally got Lolli’s card off yesterday. Somehow I missed the Lorita part of her name. Guess it will get there okay.
I love seeing Greta in the field with the dogs. She is quite the cat.
Sue – yes, I loved that you said she’s quite the cat because I agree! This morning she even rode out to the field with us, sat in the cart with me and rode back. Such a funny girl!
I love your log. And I did send a card to Lolly. I just finished reading The Widow by John Grisham. I’ve read so many of his books. Your trifle looks delicious. I hope everyone has a great day!
FIRST . . . lost documents: /Windows 1made documents I saved disappear. I am (obsessively) organized when it comes to my patterns and embroidery designs. I’d save them to where they “should” be an 11 would put them in unfindable places. My grandson explained in Windowspeak Windows actually MOVED stuff where IT wanted it. So, if you are using 11 that may be why your saved document disappeared.
SECOND . . . YES! I want the Folksy Chicken pattern! You posted it before?? I must have missed a post. Chicken check will be mailed today.
THIRD . , . I LOVE Gatlinburg. I’m a UT alum and my friends and I spent many, many wonderful days hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains and eating at one (of many) of our fav restaurants in Gatlinburg. My daughter was around 3 years old when she started hiking with us. She even had her own mini backpack!!
FOURTH . . . Currently reading “The First Ladies” by Marie Benedict Victoria Christopher Murphy. Light reading, it’s still “summer.”
Hi, Mary. I love the idea off your pothos climbing up the tomato cage. I’ve got one too and am thinking I’ll do the same to control it. I’m currently reading The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah.
Oh Mortie I love her. Hank is one handsome dog. And that log amazing! Thanks for sharing Mary
Yes, those four seasons quilts are so precious. And Hank sleeping is also precious. My Buster hangs out behind my recliner. I think it’s his safe spot from Gus. Maybe he saying, I’m done playing.
The fruit trifle looks delicious.
Yesterday I had my first cataract surgery. Strange, to say. I was calm and relaxed as I’ve had shots and eye surgery before. Oh, so much is tied up in my eyes’ health. No one ever listens to advice but I’d like to say stay away from secondhand smoke and wear your sunglasses. Neither of which I did. My sister and I spent a lot of time in grandma’s room as children She was a smoker and lived with us about 20 years. Bless her heart, we loved having her in our house. She taught us cards and embroidery. My sister and I are the only ones with macular degeneration.
HI Mary,
Thank you for all the pictures!! I love your log. And yes, I did send a card to Lolly.
Thanks for the book recommendation, the best book I recently listened to was “Gone Before Goodbye” by Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben
I am listening to The Calamity Club, it is a good one to listen to.
Maureen – I, too, am listening to Calamity Club and enjoying it!
Currently reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I have enjoyed it though it’s pretty intense as it’s about a bullied teen who went on a shooting spree at his high school.
Lucky Hank! Skyler would love to come and play at the farm!
Diane – oh, I wish Skylar could visit!!!
❤️
Our book club is reading The Day the World Came to Town…….9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland. It is fascinating!!!!
Are the Garden quilts all appliqué? That’s a lot of little stuff to appliqué if so! They are precious. I love them too!
Carol – yes, it all done with heat n bond and then framed under glass so it doesn’t come up. No actual quilting stitches.
