I know you hear me talk about Ivy when she comes with Sam and the kids and also when she boards here. “Boards” is a pretty specific word – she stays here a lot – at my urging – because she’s like one of my own dogs. She is no trouble at all and when Sam and family need to be gone, Ivy might just as well be here with us as home alone in her crate.
We celebrated Owen’s 4th birthday yesterday with that square angel food cake and Orange Julius.
So this weekend I’m keeping Harper, the Irish Doodle, while her mom goes to a wedding out of state. Harper is well trained and obedient so she is also no trouble. See?
She’s the size of an Irish Setter – tall, long and lanky but with more meat on her bones with that beautiful curly hair. Ivy and Harper just love each other and today they met the Two Amigos at choretime.
Dirty Dozens:
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, Everybody!
Mary! That quilt hanging on the porch wall behind Harper in the pic. Oh my! What a beauty. I just love seeing pics of your house. Always something to see.
I’m always so impressed with the DDs. Love them! I so appreciate you taking the time to share them with us after your blog readers share them with you!
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
Your trip with Connie sounded wonderful, I look forward to making a road trip & visiting as many quilt shops as possible.
Ordered Lori Holts book Vintage Christmas & anxiously awaiting its arrival. I have a plan in the back of my mind, now to see if it comes to fruition, time will tell.
On Facebook &/or Utube have been watching videos Cooking with Brenda Gantt, I recommend watching her, just uplifting & entertaining. I have watched her make biscuits on video several times as I am so fascinated by her method. I know how & when I have more than myself to make biscuits make biscuits from scratch & is so easy but she makes them like I have never seen before, may just try one day!
Hope everyone has a wonderful & safe holiday weekend.
I did not even realize it is labor day weekend. Thanks for putting it in your post.Cooked a roast and will be making homemade noodles tomorrow. Got some new curtains and will hang them tomorrow also. Have fun with your borders. j
Sweet adorable pictures ! Thanks for sharing the dogs and kids and DD.
We did take out tonight and went to a Nature park In Rochester to sit outside to eat and watch the kids climb on the most unusual structures this playground had. Very entertaining. You’d see the young college kids walk by all masked up so that was good. Nice to see families all enjoying the outdoors cause the Park streets were lined with cars and people walking with dogs.
Dawn- I love to see pink and brown together in a quilt.
DOGS!! They’re so cute watching the amigos. LOVE the little house quilt with the sun and sailboats hanging above Harper in the chair.
Interesting post. Thank you so much. Iam happy.
Aid I was a bit younger I would really want an Irishdoodle.
Wishing you a wonderful Labor Day weekend too! Love your blog! Thank you for it!
What a fun day. Owen’s big sister is a hoot! Love all of the bandaids on her legs! The picture of the kids in the golf cart is funny. They are lucky to have you to watch their dog. The DD quilts are great! We are enjoying great weather here in MA. Warm today but that’s ok! It cools off so nicely during the early evening. Have a great weekend everyone! Jan in MA
Mary, have you any news of Reed? I miss hearing about your adventures together.
The Irish Doodle is a pretty and large dog! I’ve never seen one before. I too always enjoy seeing pictures of your home and decor, your house looks cozy and full of love.
Teresa – Reed doesn’t come here anymore – his grandma wants him to sew with her.
Those dimples!
That smile is the star of the whole post.
Love it all, but especially those dimples.
Great pictures!! I so enjoy your blog! Thank you for sharing.
Great photos of the quilts, kids and dogs. Pretty busy place. I was not able to find your blog for a week or so.
Then the screen was really wide and no comments were visible. Now all is well. I have no idea what happened. Computers and I are not friends.
I have a question: Here in SW MN we cannot find the flat lids for canning. (Ball & Kerr etc.) Is this also a
problem in other parts of the country, or is it just a problem here? On ebay they are $1.00 each!!! I can’t believe it!! Is that legal?? They are usually about $3.00 a box of twelve.
The angel food cake looked wonderful.
Hi, Kathy. I am also not finding the flat canning lids in my usual stores. I’m not sure why either. I bought a box of pint jars, a dozen, with the lids and rings included from Lowe’s. Just happened to see them there and wanted to can some salsa. My next stop will be to check a few small Mennonite stores in the thumb of Michigan for the lids. Good luck!
Aiden, Lucy and Owen are beautiful children, and I can imagine they are quite personable, too. I don’t know who was having more fun, the kids or the dogs.
It was a beautiful day, and our Farmer’s Market was well attended. We picked up our order of freshly made tamales and hurried home to have some for supper-yum. We also bought extra for the freezer.
Have a great weekend everyone; be safe.
Hi Mary, the dogs are fabulous , i have Ginger the cat on the footstool keeping my legs toasty. Will get andrew to send you a photo, he belongs to Andrews mother in law ,Jan.we are having take away chicken curry tonight, yum! Enjoy your weekend, best wishes from sandy
Sandy – oh, isn’t that Andrew kind to send me your pictures! I got the picture of Ginger and will post it. Sweet kitty!
I love the wall hanging behind Harper on your porch! Is that one of your patterns and will it ever be available again? If not, do you know the pattern?
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend with your visitors!
Susan Boyd – I am looking for another reader – I will post.
Owen is sure a cutie, that dimple is precious.
It’s nice you have well be well-behaved dogs that visit.
We are enjoying 70’s and 80’s for a few days instead of the high 90’s we have had. The dogs love it and so do I, they are playing without panting and I can sit on the deck and be comfortable.
Have a safe Labor Day.
Love the kids, the dogs, and the pink and brown quilt! Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Great temperatures. Be safe, no large crowds. Just enjoy yourselves.
Love seeing the kids enjoying your place, and the dogs too. Also love that quilted wall hanging on the wall behind Harper! I’m hoping you will tell us the pattern source, and also hoping it’s still available!
Jean in MI – it’s from one of our books, the summer quilt in the group of four, but I’ll have to look.
Help!! I am looking for the full size pattern for the Country Threads pattern “Rise and Shine”. It is an oldie but goodie from the Quilt Sampler magazine of 1985. It was Country Threads featured quilt. I would like the full size pattern if any one has it. I think I have waited to long to make this quilt. Thank you Carol L of NE
Carol Lewis – I will look – maybe we have an extra or else we can copy it. Cost is $15.00 plus $2 postage.
Carol Lewin – if you have that magazine, the pattern is in there – let me know if you have it.
Have the small pattern to enlarge but I have no way to enlarge the templates. Was hoping to find someone willing to sell the enlarged pattern or templates. Thanks
Carol Lewin in NE
Carol lewin – take the book to the library or Staples and they can enlarge it for you.
Carol Lewin – I found a copy of Rise and Shine – full size! If you want it, send $15 plus $2 postage – I’ll hold it for you for one week – please let me know.
Yes I will take it. No Staples in this area and library closed, covid. I live in rural NE. Thanks you. Carol L
Carol L – thanks for letting me know – I’ll hold it for you!
Looks like you have a great party with Owen and family. So glad he is doing so well, looks healthy and happy. Love the dogs, what fun to still have some for a “sleep over” as I am sure Hazel loves having the fun company. More beautiful quilts, how great!! Enjoying this beautiful day, NOT HOT and so pretty out. I guess tomorrow is supposed to be hot but then getting chilly. Who knows how it will all be but I sure do like Autumn!!
I wish Happy Birthday. I am so happy. Why can’t told.
