Fun Photos, 7-27-24

I can’t fall behind with photos and I’ve got some really great ones for you tonight.

Around the farm

I gave them a mirror to admire themselves!

This is the poor man’s version of the Olympic circles – ha! Found last winter at the thrift store for $6.00 and it has lived here on this bench ever since.

And here’s my aching arm that got poked so many times because they put the IV into the artery instead of my vein.

Ouch!

Until I have an answer I just can’t go to church – next week, I hope.

Can’t thank you all enough for your concern and prayers. I know you’re thinking of me and one of these days I’ll be able to report some results, good or bad.

I have enjoyed seeing all the pictures of the sewing rooms! And so glad to see they look like they are being used! When I see pictures of beautiful sewing rooms that are all straightened up, I wonder if any sewing really goes on in there!! Same thing when I see pictures of houses!! Sometimes I wonder if people actually live in the houses that are all pristine!!! Sure hope your arm heals soon. My husband has a horrible bruise on his leg, pretty much from top to bottom, it has been interesting watching it heal in all the different stages. I am continuing to pray for you, hope you can get some answers soon.

Loved all the comments today. Feels like I’m chatting with a great group of friends. I even got my “guts” up and will post a few pics of my messy sewing room. I leave in the morning for a week long quilting retreat. Can’t wait to get on the road. I started cutting rectangles from my plaid shirts! Cindy, you inspired me. Mary, I pray you get answers soon. Love to you all.

I’ve been cheering for you so glad to hear you’re feeling better even if you don’t know what the next step is. Our chickens like to hang out beside the glass door, I think it makes them feel they have a bigger flock to include the reflection!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Lisa – send me some pictures of your chickens – we’d love to see them!

Awesome sewing room pictures, I’ve been really enjoying these. Would love to know more about the quilt in the first picture hanging on the wall. Really cute. I like to see how others set up a “design wall”. I’ve seen some bloggers demonstrate their wall but it’s always nice to see regular peoples’ ideas, haha. And the locker with all of the books, that’s great. I have a metal storage cabinet about the same size downstairs in my basement. Would love to have my sewing space down there but it’s kind of overwhelming thinking of how to make the space work. Right now, there’s poor lighting, no heat, no a/c, etc. It does have nice big windows (it’s a walk out basement). Oh well, something else to plan and dream about! I do hope and pray that your new doctor will be helpful and get to the bottom of all of this. Mayo certainly hasn’t been much help. Jan in MA

That bruise is ghastly! Total incompetent tech. You’ll have quite the rainbow when it starts to heal.
Congratulations on the beautiful quilt. Makes me want to start collecting shirts!
Love the chicken pictures. They are so darn cute and now they have a mirror to remind them how cute they are.
Still love seeing the sewing spaces. Some people are as creative with their rooms as they are with their quilts.
Quiet day today; might make some cookies. I’m hungry for cookies.

  6. Cindy Sabinske

Beautiful sewing rooms today mine is way more used looking, with no orderly reason why anything is anywhere! I guess I should put things away once in a while! I may take a couple of photos, but it will be scary! It is already warm here and the humidity is high, nice breeze, but I say the air conditioning is where I will stay today for most of the day anyway! Larry’s arm continues to heal, he has to wear the custom made sleeve, and it is keeping the circulation going for healing. The next visit to Regions is in October. I am working on a precut bear paw table runner, and then I will do the block for the Master Naturalist quilt. I think this was a great idea, many volunteers stepped up to make a block. It will be interesting to see it when it is assembled. Deadline is September 15. I watered my gardens yesterday and will need to replenish the water in the bird baths, those with little solar fountains sprinkle water out of the bird bath. Mostly Robins visit the baths! July is almost over, wow, the months buzz by. Stay cool today! Mary, hope you get the help you are needing very soon.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Cindy – so glad you updated us on Larry! Continued healing for him!

  7. Bonnie

I am do sorry you are having so much trouble with Mayo. A patient advocate is a great idea. Something is VERY WRONG.

Love the pictures. Cindy’s quilt is beautiful. The chickens/mirror photo is too cute. The view beyond the mirror……vegetation/trees etc. reminds me of where I grew up in Wisconsin. I had such a charmed childhood.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, Mary. I will look forward to good news.

  8. Dee from Mo

So glad you are feeling better but no news from Mayo is CV really unacceptable. I also recommend calling for patient advocate. Enjoyed all photos. Also had 9 ads today on site!

  9. Fran

    Praying for you Mary.

    That arm looks nasty.

Love the photos. Wish I was that neat, But I do get the job done Ha! I need to straighten up again but I have things that need to be done plus a month ahead that is full of retreats! I feel sorry for those who can’t sew unless everything is in its place and all is tidy or a hubby that will not allow anything to be out with work in progress. Creative minds don’t work that way.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Fran – I really admire you for going to many retreats – I would never get anything done but you obviously must. Trying to sew in a different environment just confuses me.

  10. Brenda in Georgia

Love all photos, especially your beautiful chickens! I also did not see the Olympic rings that you mentioned. I think you will benefit from calling the patient advocate at Mayo. I don’t think that is typical for patients to go through what you are going through. If someone made one little mistake when entering your info it may not have gone to the right place. The advocate should be able to track down the problem. I wish you all the luck in the world!

  11. Donna Jo

Wow. That bruise is horrible and definitely should not have happened. How painful. Congratulations to Cindy on the Grand Champion Quilt. I need to get out my shirt scraps and make a quilt. Love the sewing room photos. Using the old lockers is ingenious. The chickens and the mirror is too cute. Glad you have an appointment on Tuesday with a new doctor. Hope you hear back from Mayo on Monday. We are in a heat advisory until Thursday. Good reason to stay in and quilt. Hope your bbq arrives soon.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Donna. – the bbq will arrive midweek – with my look at end of life there’s no reason not to enjoy things we love!

  12. Kelli

I’m so so sorry for all you’ve been thru 😥 praying for you and that you get the results soon so you can move forward with whatever comes next.

You encourage us by you honesty and pressing on in the midst of adversity!

I love these sewing room photos – what an ingenious idea of use an old school locker to store books! And the chickens with the mirror made me laugh!

Hang in there – we are all rooting for you!

  13. Jean

I am in complete and utter disbelief at your saga. I have zero faith in our medical system. Pain is a warning that something is amiss and I just cannot believe that these people are ignoring you. I just can’t. Something is not right. I will continue in prayer. Stay well.

    1. Fran

I feel the same way about how the medical system seems to operate these days. It’s like take a #. I hear it’s worse in the big cities.

  14. Sandy

Hi Mary, that bruise is spectacular! Will be interesting colours as it fades! I spent the afternoon sewing down a binding for a friend, she is retiring on Wednesday, so we are looking forward doing more things together. Patti, l feel your pain, will pray for a speedy recovery. Not watching the Olympics, not really interested in sport, watching old movies on YouTube instead. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

  15. Carol Nichols

I am so sorry you are going through all this. And that arm looks like it feels miserable.
The pictures of sewing rooms are so fun to see. Mine, not so much. No pictures will be coming from me!!😉
    Take care. Praying for you…
    Carol in Spokane

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Carol – remember these photos are posted anonymously and everybody feels like they’ve found their soulmate when they see a messy sewing room. I would rather see a messy sewing room that’s being enjoyed than one that is in perfect order with no projects in sight. Come on, Carol – send the pictures – you will not be identified!!!

  16. patti

hi everyone. the sewing room pictures are great. the champion quilt is wonderful. congrats to you, cindy. i laughed at the mirror outside for the chickens.
thanks everyone for your concern for me. the kidney stone is not the issue. i wish it was because they can fix that. the back is the big issue, i have sent a question through the portal to my back doctor. hope to hear from him early next week. the back is still shot, i still can’t stand up straight. i am bent at almost a 90 degree angle. they gave me muscle relaxers but not pain pills. i have some light pain pills that i’ve added tonite. the good thing is i’ve been sleeping alot. know that will help with the pneumonia along with the new antibiotics. praying that i can stand up straight and walk. i do appreciate your concern.
i know about kitties and thread as i had a kitten who did that. yes, she went to the vet also and then i had to hide the thread. i had another cat that could take the pins out of the pin cushion so now the pins are never out where cats can get them, amazing. they always want to help but we have to watch them so closely.
happy birthday to rita tomorrow. seems like alot of us are in the same age bracket. will be 74 in september. mary, i’m so glad you are feeling better. i know you know not to overdo. but i also know we are stubborn women and will do what we feel. take care of yourself. prayers continue. patti in florida

    1. Martha W in WY

Patti, I can’t imagine having such a back issue. I have lower back pain occasionally and my middle ribs need chiropractic attention periodically. Have you tried acupuncture? Some people find relief from their pain with that. I believe Medicare pays for it too. I’ll pray that they can find some way to relieve your pain.

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Patti – gosh, I hope your back Dr gets back to you soon! If you’re bent over you can’t take a deep breath which comes with pneumonia. Aren’t we a group? Yup, all around the same age and nobody else could possibly understand. Certainly not a healthy 40 year old.

  17. Patricia

Mary, not only are they not giving you answers they are beating you up. Ouch !
Loved all the sewing rooms and especially the antique furniture. I really liked those lockers too. Good storage idea.
Your hens look beautiful. Have they started laying yet? I have no idea how mature they need to be. The mirrors were funny.
Well today I tried to watch every Olympic channel I could find. I kept switching from one to the other. I didn’t want to miss Katie Ledecky swim especially since she’s a local. Enjoyed the men’s soccer win over New Zealand, beach volleyball, synchronized diving etc. You get the picture.
O did not see the version of your Olympic rings.
I hope you’ve been able to sleep reasonably well. Always positive thoughts and prayers.
    Pat in Md

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Pat in MD – Katie L. Is local to you? Oh, how fun, I love to watch her swim. Yes, I can even watch Olympics on my IPad in the porch – yay!!!
And for some reason I do not remember synchronized diving – and I always watch the Olympics. We only get them on NBC. I am looking forward to the women’s basketball of course and I THINK they play on Tuesday but I cannot confirm that. If anyone reading can confirm, please do. US just lost water polo.

      1. Patricia

Katie is local to the area not my small town. She went to high school south of us but there is quite a lot of buzz about her on the news. Also Frances Tiafoe, the tennis player is from the area. But they refer to our area as the DMV- which for a while really confused me. All I could think of was the Division of Motor Vehicles. It’s the DC, Md and Va area. Oh I didn’t see that US lost in water polo. I don’t know much about that sport. The soccer win was the women not the men. How about those hens? Are they laying yet?
That’s all I got for now.
        Pat in Md

        1. RuthW in MD

Actually, I believe DMV (in the East) is the D elaware, M aryland, V irginia, area. I grew up in CA and there DMV is Dept of Motor Vehicles. Then there is the phrase “DelMarVa” to refer to 3 states at once using the first syllable of each state name. It took me several years to get used to these designations!

    2. Cindy Sabinske

Mary, the photo of your poor man’s Olympic rings hasn’t posted! Could you post as I am very curious!

  18. JudyE

I love seeing all the sewing spaces that people have shared.
Mary please contact a patient advocate at Mayo Clinic who can look into your situation. I have a feeling you have not been assigned to a doctor or department at Mayo and the patient advocate can get some answers for you. This is not typical Mayo treatment that you are getting. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Judy E – since we are so close to Mayo every serious health issue goes there. I never considered going elsewhere but now I don’t know what to do.

  19. Debbie in SC

Love the sewing room photos-makes me feel better that I am not the only one that has lots of “stuff” and also lots of containers and baskets to keep that “stuff” in! I have one of the large IKEA bookcases with 25 cubbies full of quilt/craft books in my living room and nearly everyone that comes in my house recommends I downsize my book collection-I tell them I don’t think so!
Your arm looks painful and will take probably a long time for the bruise to go away. I so hope you get answers soon.
My oldest great grandson (4) got to come home from the hospital today after having a high temp and being very sick. They ran all kinds of blood tests, x-rays, ct scans and an MRI. They knew immediately he had a severe bacterial infection but could not find where, why or how. They finally determined it was in his kidney and after massive doses of antibiotics he was well enough to come home after 3 days but will stay on 2 antibiotics for the next 2 weeks and will have to follow up with a kidney specialist. Still no answers as to why or how.
Pretty chickens-the black and white Dominique has always been my favorite.
The picture of the Olympic circles did not show up for me-makes me wonder?

    1. Martha W in WY

Oh, Debbie, I feel for you. It’s hard to see our little ones suffer when so very ill. I will send up a prayer for him tonight.

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Debbie in SC – if I’m whining about getting an IV, what does a 4 year old do? How can he possibly understand? And did they ever find the source of infection? What’s next for him? Will you tell us?

  20. Jeanie S, Central IL

The quilt room pictures are very inspiring. I love the metal school lockers; what great vertical storage.
Cindy, your prize-winning shirt quilt is stunning; congrats.
They really did a number on your arm! Hopefully, this will be the week for information. Hugs & Prayers, Mary 🥰

  21. Martha W in WY

That’s a humdinger of a bruise. My RN daughter said that IV mistake should’ve never happened. She said when an artery is hit you can see a little blood pulsing in the tube when the heart beats. Wonderful sewing rooms tonight. I love the chicken photos. The mirror one gave me a chuckle. I continue to pray for you each night. Funny tonight I had the “Leave Comment ” below the title again. Go figure!

    1. Martha W in WY

PS: I showed your arm photo to my daughter. She was wondering if it was an ultrasound team that was trying to insert this IV. Also, are your veins difficult to find? I suspect not because it sounds like the ct scan person redid the insertion? Where was the second IV inserted?Sorry if this is too personal. You don’t need to answer if you don’t want too. We try to figure out why certain things happen. My RN daughter is now working towards certification as an x-ray technician. They are so short staffed on the Indian reservation that she wears many different hats.

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Martha – nothing at this point is too personal! My veins have never been difficult and the X-ray tech used my left arm which looks perfect today – not a mark on it! Just think, last Sunday morning I was at the ER. I dream about what’s going to happen and cry in my dreams. Life is not fair.

      2. Mary Etherington Post author

Martha – the lab tech that came in to draw the blood sat there and bragged about how good she was at it. I told them that inserting IV is a real fear for me but I’ve never had issues with anyone finding a vein.

        1. Susan in AL

Mary, good for you to mention your fear of the IV — I have tremendous White Coat Anxiety (even if it is a pink or blue coat LOL and even if it is a veterinarian or a nutritionist) and I make sure that everyone knows. There is actually no point in taking a blood pressure reading because it will be terrible due to my emotional state. God’s little joke is that 4 of my 7 children are healthcare professionals — who understand the irrationality of my reaction and have zero patience with it! I blame them all LOL
