Goose Mystery, 11-10-25

These geese have been a pain in my ……..neck for years now. They sit out in the pasture during snowstorms and bitter cold but suddenly last summer they started coming up to the barn and going in the goat pen. Geese are also so messy!!! I think Rick figured it out – coyotes outside the 6’ fence last summer. I think they know the barn is safer. I’ve been locking them up each night and today they must have been cold and were willing to go inside about 4:30 – of course it was nearly dark then, too. Did you know geese can live 25-30 years???? Sigh.

Today was a plant day – watering, fertilizing, washing, general clean up on the tables and it took me hours and I didn’t get finished.

I now have a borrowed car so I can get around. Thank goodness! The body shop has had to order another door – Tim went to bat for me and told them they were being unreasonable not offering me a car to use. Or let me have my van while they get the parts!!!! This has given me high blood pressure, I’m sure.

This was Mortie this morning – I truly hope she doesn’t want to sleep with me tonight.

Molly needed both chair and ottoman

Love the caption!
You know how much I love this cartoon, don’t you?

Has Mortie been following Hazel down the mouse holes??? I’m with Mollie–a nap and a quilt is good any time of day.
I was watching the leaves run down the street this morning. They were having the best time! A west wind straight out of Iowa kept them moving and blew puffs of snow off the trees at the same time.
Lee’s quilt gives me another idea on what to do with the donated scraps and problem blocks I receive, try to resew and put to use in LWR quilt tops. I have the perfect pieces to make a snowball border to add to a panel, some flying geese strips, piano keys, and pinwheel blocks. It is a challenge some days, but fun, too.
Stay warm, everyone. Kris in WI

The whole parking thing is amazing. There’s a fb page, bad parkers in iowa, well, something like that. The other day it had a Cedar Falls police car on it. I’m not driving now, had some surgery, driving wouldn’t be too safe for me or anyone else. I have a couple friends who are fetching and carrying me so that I can get out, appointments, just stitching too. TV is showing iguanas that have gone into torpor as it’s cold in Florida. My Chicago friend leaves Friday for a week, but it will be better there than the 3″ she got the other day, a couple other friends got 12″ just a few miles south of her. I’m not ready!

Dee – are we ever ready? I did more fall chores this afternoon and have not touched a rake yet. The leaves some years are still on the maple trees in January but not this year! Yes, I’m a member of several of those bad parking groups – ha! It’s such a pet peeve of mine!

I had no idea geese live that long!! Now I’m glad my few are made of wood.
Glad you got some wheels, now you’re unstoppable.
I wanted to fly my flag today for all the veterans, but the crazy wind is blowing. I appreciate all those who are flying today. Thank you for that, and to all vets…thank you for your service.

Jo – about 40 years I ordered The Great Goose Group from a famous hatchery, Murray McMurray in Webster City, IA. Had I known geese can live up to 40 years you can bet I never would have ordered any. I doubt any of the originals are still here but I still have 5 relatives! Last summer they hatched two goslings which I tried to avoid but then I felt bad because both goslings died a few days after hatching.

I think every animal in Iowa must know where they can get a warm bed for the night! Winter is making an early appearance here with howling winds & snow flurries. Just in time for a long drive over the mountains for my husband’s surgery tomorrow. I’m happy that you have some wheels & thanks for the laugh.

Laughing this morning! Great way to start my day.

Glad it’s sew day here today. Been missing my quilting buddies. Just a handful will be here.

Isn’t Lee’s quilt gorgeous? Funny thing, her last name is Bowers just like the saying on the quilt. She is my sister-in-law that Nancy, Susan and I have adopted as another sister, but unfortunately, she doesn’t come around like she use to and we can’t get her to come up from NC to go to our retreat. My son and daughter-in-law just moved from Durham for his new job and they will miss their Aunt Lee.

Mortie is so precious, you must be afraid of rolling on him at night. Minnie sleeps under the covers by me. I must have moved last night because when I woke up she was up by my neck under the covers. She goes there when I go to bed because her latest escapade is nursing on my nightgown! She started with Nancy when she was up in October. There’s something about our soft nightgowns from Walmart that she goes nuts on. In the morning my nightgown is wet, I have to hang it to dry before putting it away. We bought the nightgowns last year at the Walmart near me and they are still just like new, very soft and warm.

Have a great day full of blessings of being alive and able. It may get to 27 today with snow flurries. Thank heaven the six inches they got in the thumb missed Saginaw!

Linda – OK, I don’t understand how you even know Lee much less have adopted her! I snuck off to bed last night without Mortie – I didn’t sleep much when she was breathing on me literally! My friend Jane lives where they got 6-8” of snow – her dog Junior loves it. Her other dog, Mojo, was at the vet getting his teeth cleaned and missed the run through the woods in the snow.

    Perfect cartoon!
I’m glad you were given a loaner car. Parts are taking a very long time now to come in for fixing things. A man we know came home from Florida in May and lost an outside compartment door on I95. He had a camper dealership order one in June after he took his camper to them for repair. Come September his camper is still not back and he finally got the door installed after repeated phone calls in October as he’s ready to go back to his FL reservation. But here’s the clincher- the latch is not correct so they had to do a “make do” one till the right one comes in. All summer long and no parts came in. My husband bought yesterday an extra charging station for his hearing aides so we’ll leave one in our motor home next summer. The technician said to get it now as it was the last one in stock. We took it as a sign she knew more than we knew.

Kathy – here’s the back story. The body shop finally called yesterday to offer me a loaner car but I had already secured one – my Mom’s old car that I gave to Sam and Brian about 18 months ago. It just sat here and I was paying for insurance, upkeep and license and didn’t have a good place to keep it. So they were kind enough to loan it back to me. Kindness matters.

Where do you live Lee Bowers? You had such green trees at Halloween. Mortie appears to be such a sweetie. I got a chuckle over seeing Molly all stretched out. We’ve had unusually warm days but windy ones. It’s hard to believe it’s almost the middle of November and so warm yet.

That parking cartoon made me laugh out loud!
Glad you got the loaner – now poor Red can be a little safer…

Gail – poor Red can rest in the garage and get patched up at a different body shop!!

Oh Morty. 🙂 My cat thinks sleeping with me is not enough. She wants to be ON me. If you roll over she follows along to stay on. Good thing she’s only 6-8 lbs.
