And Carol Pifer’s Uncle Sam.

My birthday was such fun! Connie and Becky took me out to lunch in Clear Lake where the 4th of July celebration was in full swing. The line was out the door at our first choice for lunch.

We ended up at a new place with great sandwiches. We shopped for a little fabric and when we got back to Connie’s place, she gave me a fresh warm rhubarb pie! OMG! I haven’t had such a great piece of pie since my mom made it.

Betty wanted to be in the picture, too!

Thank you to Martingale for book donations – they have been very generous!

Happy 4th. I just made rhubarb sauce yesterday. My husband would love a pie. Thanks for reminding me about the pie, great to have wonderful friends.

  4. Martha Engstler

Love rhubarb pie. My Iowa Aunt Carrie had the best recipe which had like a custard base. Glad you had a good birthday. Wishing everyone a great fourth of July. 😃

    1. Mary Evans

Oh, I love a rhubarb pie with custard base. I think I have a recipe here for it. Yum Yum!

A belated Happy Birthday! Just got caught up reading your blog posts as went on a three day drive across the good old state of Iowa. The agenda was quilt shops, (if they were open), ice cream shops and brewery’s. The quilt shops were awesome and the people very friendly. We left Postville Monday morning and drove Highway 3 all the way over to LeMars to visit the Blue Bunny Museum. On the way back we drove up to Sheldon and drove Highway 18 back. Toured your beautiful little town of Garner on the way thru. We had beautiful weather and scenery all the way. I enjoy reading your blog!

I believe that a warm, homemade rhubarb pie might just rank up there among the best of all gifts! Congrats to the winners! I had hoped to have my Sam ready for the 4th, but— no; maybe next Memorial Day! 🤞🏻

Happy 4th !!! Love the dress.
Finished UFOs #8….binding completed on all 3…of course hand stitching half done on one, and other two were baby quilts. Doesn’t sound near as impressive when I fill in the details, lol. Stitching string blocks for a block exchange. Need to have 50 11inch block by mid August.
Md. Maci feeling better as each day passes.
Congratulations to Ruth, Sue, & MaryJane on winning the books.

I spent the entire day sewing and listening to a great book. I highly recommend “A Fall of Marigolds” by Susan Meissen.

  25. Sue McKay

    Hi Mary

Do you know of someone who does hand quilting for hire? I have a quilt top that needs to be hand quilted but I’m not skilled enough to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Sue

      1. Sue McKay

It’s Lori Holt’s Lets Bake quilt. It has a very vintage look. I would like for it to look like it was made in the 1940’s.
        Sue

        1. CountryThreads Post author

Sue McKay – I could understand wanting a pristine antique quilt hand quilted but Lori Holt’s modern quilt? In my opinion hand quilting would look inappropriate because the design of that quilt is most definitely modern day and not a traditional quilt pattern. Finding a hand quilter will be very difficult if not impossible. You COULD try an Amish or Mennonite community but you might just have to tackle it yourself. Please remember that this is my personal opinion only. Maybe the readers can direct you to a hand quilter. Let’s hope they read our exchange.

Sue – where do you live? That would help narrow down the search.

    Happy Birthday and Happy Fourth.
Betty really has a “shiny” coat. Beautiful. I think she had her eyes on the rhubarb pie.
No sewing right now, just got done having cataract surgery on one eye. Things really look brighter. The other one will be done in two weeks. The worst: no lawn mowing or gardening at this time.
Thanks for sharing your birthday. Your Fouth decorations are very nice.

  27. Tina W.

My very favorite pie is warm strawberry rhubarb with vanilla ice cream! Think I need to make one soon!
Looks like you had a great birthday celebration with friends and your dress is very cute.
    Happy Fourth!! 💥

  28. Carolyn Rector from Southwest Ohio

What a wonderful birthday, thanks for sharing the pictures. Your dress is perfect for the birthday girl! Enjoy the pie, what a nice gift. Thanks again for the giveaway, congratulations to the winners. It’s my coffee time. Tackled paper clutter yesterdsy.

  29. Diane, Squeak's Mom

I love your dress and Connie and Becky’s 4th of July attire:) I’ll bet you enjoyed that wonderful looking pie. I think Betty thought it was for her. We attended our grand daughter’s last 4th of July parade; she’ll be a senior this year. Fun day.

  30. Diane, Squeak's Mom

PS I clicked 4 or 5 ads on the way down the blog, then I clicked three more different ones on the way back up:) I’ll probably get more on the way back up again!!

This is a belated happy birthday to a great blogger, photographer, quilter, animal lover, plant grower, child teacher, author, cook, wife, friend and all around generous person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing about! I agree with whomever said even if we haven’t met we feel as if you are a dear friend! Thank you Mary!

  32. Jeanine

I still have not ever had any ads and I do not have an ad blocker. Wish I could help out in that way. We did not get any rain in southeast Iowa over the 4th, but had some earlier in the week. Love all your pictures and blog entries. Thanks for sharing with us.
