Friends in Montana sent me this picture this morning – isn’t it wonderful? I’m quite sure they set it up – they are great decorators – both inside and outside.
Mama Kitty and the kittens go outside to play every evening.
The irrigator was working yesterday – hope you can see it because I sat in the porch and listened to water dropping on the corn leaves – it was hypnotizing.
Here’s a picture of Reed and me taken yesterday when we went out to lunch for my birthday. I forgot to smile, I guess. Gayle didn’t want me to take her picture – Gayle has MS and is almost completely paralyzed except for her right arm and her head so I guess I didn’t blame her. There’s nothing wrong with her brain, however – she’s fun to talk to about anything!
Here’s Reed’s brothers and sisters. I told Reed that yesterday on my birthday I was 60 years older than him which makes him 9 and me 69. Yikes!
Left to right – Reed, me, Myra, June, Nolan with Vera Pearl (VP) in front. Aren’t they just the cutest?
We’re going to have a quiet holiday – I’m looking forward to sitting on the porch and reading a good book. How about you?
Tomorrow I’ll post the log cabin quilt with as much information as I can give you about construction, etc.
Have a fun filled Fourth of July and thanks for all the birthday wishes!
Those kids are very good looking. Myra looks like a “little Mother” taking care of her girls!!!! So Cute. .
You look great for 69. Keep it going, girl friend!!!
Happy Birthday late Mary and you are still a
Spring Chicken.
Enjoy your 4th.
I am up in Northern Wisconsin again for the
Summer.

Happy Birthday, Mary! I will light a sparkler in honor of your birthday tonight!
May this year be filled with more fun, quilts and animals that adore you. I hope you enjoy your celebration of the birth of our nation as well. Your plan to sit and relax with a good book sounds like a good idea which I might adopt today! Happy belated birthday.
Happy belated birthday! Mine was yesterday, too!
Love your top. The stars are so patriotic and it looks comfortable for summer heat!
Sandy – Happy Belated Birthday to you as well!
A most happy birthday Mary! Love this pic of you with a great looking group of kids!
Happy birthday America as well!
Happy belated birthday! Where in Montana is that picture from? I have friends from Bozeman area.
Happy Birthday!!!!!
I am also a member of those suffering from MS. You have no idea how wonderful it is to have a friend just to talk. You are a good friend.
That little guy puts a big smile on my face. What a joy he must be to you.
Happy 4th.
MaryLou – I’m so sorry you have MS. Gayle has had it for 16 years and now resides in our care center. She is a wonderful conversationalist and smart as a whip!
Happy late Birthday. I wish I was 69 even though I feel younger. Keep moving and sewing. Enjoy and have many more birthdays with your friends. Those Montana quilts look good on display. Do the kittens follow mama and all return with her every night? I am only familiar with dogs. Have a great 4th
and enjoy and be safe.
Dee T. – I’m not sure what happens at night – they’re always here in the morning.
Happy Belated birthday! love your top 🙂
Sounds like you had a perfect birthday………I love your blog & look forward to reading it every day

Reed, he is a keeper for sure 🙂 such a huge help for you
Mary, Happy belated birthday! May it be a good and joyful year.
I thought June was a baby doll, what a cutie.
Looks like you had great company on your birthday, Mary! Many happy returns. Today is my mother’s birthday – a July 4th baby – she is 78 today.
Fiona – a July 4 baby and you don’t even celebrate the 4th, do you? I think it rates close to Christmas around here for popularity.
Happy Birthday Mary! I love your shirt, very patriotic.
Happy 4th of July to you & your family. we are having a quiet holiday. I am working on a small quilt, court house steps in navy & browns. It is from Jo Mortons new book, Jo’s Little Favorites II. Thanks for all the pictures.
Carolyn B from the Shenandoah Valley VA
Happy Belated Birthday, Mary!
Yesterday was my birthday also…July 3

Sharlyn – Happy Birthday to a fellow “almost a firecracker”! Haven’t you heard that all your life? I have – ha!
Hi Mary…happy belated birthday and much happiness to continue with the celebrating. Like all the pictures! Your outfit is so cute. Enjoy your farm reports too.
Happy belated birthday. Wonderful pics. Love Reeds family. Think I heard your corn growing 😆
I love your posts, happy fourth
You have a very good friend there Mary…❤️Happy Fourth!
Happy 4th and Happy Birthday!!!!!
Happy Birthday Mary, thank you for all your wonderful posts and quilting ideas.
Belated birthday wishes, Mary!!
I too thought June was an American girl doll as she looks just like one! Sweet sweet kitties who aurely appreciate the safe home you have given them. Happy belated birthday to a very kind soul. You don’t look or act like 69. Very deserved break to sit and read today. We will have hot dogs and pasta salad to celebrate this wonderful land of ours and then I want a hot fudge sundae in place of Apple pie!
Kathy – I’d take the hot fudge, too! Yum!
When did Iowans start irrigation? They just prayed for rain, or to stop it, when I lived there.
Happy Birthday, Mary and many more. You have a very good helper. And of course, all the critters are delightful. Tomorrow is my husband’s 91st birthday. He’s more that an official old fart now.
Happy 4th.
Betty – wish your husband a happy birthday from Rick and me! The field that’s being irrigated is quite sandy soil and I think farmers in our area do everything in their power to produce crops – no matter what it is!
I hate it when the computer changes what I type thinking it knows what I am saying!!!!! I wish we could turn that part off???
How fortunate for you to have this cute family to enjoy. If I lived near you I think I would be forced to take one of those kittens. Hope you had a wonderful birthday. Be sure and let us know what you’re reading.
Happy birthday, Mary!
Love the picture of the clothesline with the holiday theme. The children are so darling, Have a beautiful Fourth of July Mary

Happy belated birthday and happy 4th, Mary. You are still a spring chicken with lots of years left to make lots of quilts.
Happy Birthday to you! The pic of you and Reed with siblings is adorable. What a bunch of cuties (you too!).
Happy Birthday, Mary! Looks like you are having a wonderful day! So glad mama kitty has learned what a wonderful home she has and is staying with you and her family. What a wonderful thing to have Reed helping you and sharing his family with you too!
Dear Mary, I missed your birthday but wish you many happy returns of the day! Love reading your posts and seeing those wonderful pictures. Noel.
Love that kid Reed. He is special. You look terrific in that patriotic blouse, did you make it? Is it Reed’s mom that has the MS? Such an awful condition. Such beautiful children you get to enjoy. I’m sure you are a blessing to that family.
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A VERY SPECIAL LADY
Blessings
Dorothy
Thanks for the picture of the kitties. I miss my black kitty (Lucy) so much. I’m cat sitting my grand daughters cat while they are on vacation. Only a couple weeks. You and Reed are lucky to have each other. When he’s grown he’ll look back and be so thankful for you.
Happy belated birthday, Mary. And, Happy 4th of July as well. Love your patriotic top.
I just got home from our annual quilt show that is 1 hour from home. It was great. I hung 4 quilts, 2 were table runners, and I entered 2 different challenge quilts. We won’t know who won for a month or so as they will hang in the local quilt store for more votes.
Again….Happy 4th to all of you.
It sounds like you had a great birthday this week; best wishes for the coming year. Reed and his siblings are truly adorable. Mama Kitty and her babies are precious, too. Thank you so much for your blog.
Mary I just read this on the 5th but nevertheless I’m sending you “Belated Birthday Wishes.” I like the photos you posted….kitties, kids and those flags. You’re a year younger than me which explains why you accomplish so much in your day 😊😊😊. Of course when I was 69 I still couldn’t accomplish what you do. You’re still a spring chicken. I love reading your blog and see your many projects and life on your farm. I’m sure you had a good birthday relaxing. Enjoy the rest of your week.
Belated birthday wishes, Mary, and if you are 69 you sure don’t look it!! It’s only a # after all. You are so fun loving and have enviable energy.. Hope it was a great day..
