Hayrack Hen Continued, 4-24-26

Remember Hayrack? The hen who took cover under the hayrack to avoid the bullies in the barnyard? I captured her and put her in with the chicks to be their protector and best friend.

It lasted two days and then she went bananas trying to get out – jumping at the wire, running back and forth along the gate, and generally causing havoc. So I had to let her out.

Today I mowed the lawn where the hayrack sits and guess who was there? Yup, old Hayrack herself. I waited for her to come in tonight – she’s always the last one – and then told her I was on board for her living where she chose. I give up.

So this little lady got herself up on the roost today!

I went to a garden center with a friend today and in the time since morning chores they likely had no water! I must not have gotten the waterer together tightly and boy, were they thirsty. They could have been dead by morning. Thank you, God, for keeping them safe till I got home – sigh.

Tomorrow is a big day – I hired a young man who hauls away junk and he’s coming – you know how old metal and junk pieces always accumulate in the grove? By tomorrow night they’ll all be gone. 😊

Here’s where we went today – Hill’s Garden Center in Albert Lea, MN.

I’ll show you what I bought tomorrow maybe – I’m too tired tonight.

Just a quick health update – my sed rate which had been at 111 when it should be under 20, requiring Prednisone, was tested again this week. IT WAS TWO!!!!! Prednisone reduced and check again in 30 days. No wonder I feel so good!!!!!

Good Night!

Wow, Mary, what an astonishing improvement! I’m so glad you are feeling so much better. My mother-in-law used to say that prednisone injections made her feel like she had springs in her knees. LOL

I think haystack hen is so smart! I would want to take care of all those kids either!
We have gotten something measure able rain today. Not a lot. It it measures! That means a lot!

I’ll bet that garden center smelled wonderful! It’s too early for them around me and that smell is the best spring perfume. Great news on your lab results! Ah, chickens. They know their own crazy, tiny minds.

Well, obviously Hayrack Hen didn’t want a job. After a couple days the kids were driving her crazy and she wanted her solitary life back. You tried.
The chicks are growing fast and their looks changing. Thanks for the update.
I’m working on a quilt with some applique in the corners of the boarder. This will be my first attempt at applique on a quilt and I’m trying to decide if I want to have it longarmed over the applique or, wait till after it is quilted to apply the applique.

Hi Mary, our local suburb has metal collection once a year to raise funds for the kindergarten . When we were cleaning out my husband, s stuff we took 3 big truck
loads of metal, cars etc to scrap metal dealers (it paid for vet treatments for my dog who had pancreatic problems). Fortunately Bella is very well now! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

Funny when you try to help her she chose her own way. Hopefully she stays safe.
Our sweet Scarlett is getting braver and braver each day. Our son puts Scarlett and her mom out in our smallest grass field for 20 minutes or so and Scarlett just runs around having fun. I didn’t have my phone so no pics today. Will try to get some tomorrow. Momma horse is so protective but I finally touched Scarlett’s nose for a second today. So soft! Can’t wait till mamma calms down and we can be more hands on.

And ads for the last two days have been about birthing baby cows! Weird. I took a few pics today but haven’t looked to see if any are good. If they are I will send you some.

Funny – mine were all for clothes. I think the computer knows what we may have been searching for recently and those are the ads that Google puts on the blog.

Dee – well, isn’t that funny? I guess there’s a direct correlation, huh?
