I’ve Enlisted More Help

I still can’t load pictures so I don’t know what to do. Jo’s daughter, Kayla, is helping me but after another hour on the phone with her last night, it’s still not fixed. And the worst part is the fact that she can actually post a picture from her own computer and I can’t. I don’t think I’m brave enough to keep trying. I need a miracle.

  2. Kathy Hanson

Praying for you – I am sure this is a huge hassle for you! Hang in there! We all love you!

I’m sorry this has been such an issue! I believe it probably is some weird glitch with your iPad. I dread the day something like this happens to me! I didn’t have any ads to click on this time. Usually I can click off 6 or so. I thought that was a little odd too.

Best Buy has a service called the Geek Squad. I just checked and they will help you with a problem no matter where you bought the equipment. They can “remote in” with your approval to your computer and try to fix it. There is a cost of course–but might be worth it since nothing else seems to be helping. I have used them a few times when I had problems and have always been satisfied with the results.

    1. Sue in Calif

The Geek Squad’s remote help has always been able to fix my computer problems.

  5. Frances Elmore

From one of your readers, you might want to get a new computer. At least, it’s worth trying. If yours is over 5 years old.

Hi Mary, we have an iPad and a Tablet vs a computer. They have lots of limitations unfortunately. We generally have to go to the public library to use their computers when we run into functional issues with our iPad or Tablet. Have you contacted Apple for assistance as well? I’m sorry you’re experiencing so much frustration.

Love your column. Do not get discouraged. Hate technology when it doesnt work! Keep on working at it

Mary at least everything else looks better this morning. The sketch of Country threads is at the top and the correct size. The comments are in the original place with yellow boxes to the side where your and Connie’s picture would be. There is one add at the top of the page also. To me this looks much better than the last post. Could this have something to do with the connection to your device which you are taking your pictures? These computer problems can be so maddening and each time it seems to be different. It’s suppose to be a learning curve, right? You are doing a good job! Thanks.

Mary, by now, someone has looked at the settings app on your iPad to make sure all is as it should be? I wonder if taking your iPad to an expert in apple products would help to make sure everything is in order. We are traveling to Des Moines tomorrow and will probably go to Jordan Creek where the Apple Store is. You would go with us and call the store for an appt, today, so you have reserved time?

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Deb Harrison – I have an appointment at the Apple Store in Jordan Creek tomorrow at 1:30.

        1. CountryThreads Post author

No, I have some other errands to run first. Thanks for the offer!

      1. Marie McDonald

Good idea. The Apple Store in my area has always been very helpful with solving any problem with my IPad. If the problem is actually with the they will probably be able to figure out what to do. Good luck!! We want this stress gone for you!

We used Geek Squad when a hacker got into my laptop despite a strong firewall. They were extremely helpful. You can purchase one time service or a monthly plan Also, have you gone to an Apple store, since you are using an iPod and not a PC or Mac — they charge too, but are good. This all started for you after the hacker caused a problem. I think you said you had software installed to prevent more hacks. Have you tried having it removed and trying again. Since others can post from their computers, perhaps it is the new software.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Katherine Gourley – we wondered the same thing so we deactivated it and installed it again – no luck. Maybe we should try it again and go back to our former program?

  10. mary jane

I was going to recommend the Geek Squad also as Betty has. It may cost some $$’s but to them the problem maybe easier than one thinks and not cost as much. I sure do give you credit for hanging in there Mary, I do know how time consuming these things take and patience, which I am short on…

  11. Jane Dumler

Oh my. This happened to us about a year ago and it turned out to be a glitch in our server. The geek squad got us straightened out. Hopefully this too shall pass. I closed two ads this morning and that is all I saw.

  12. Launa

    Closed 3 ads….
NEVER GIVE UP! I know you are frustrated and have other things you’d rather be doing! AOL was down and all I thought about was not being able to receive our next DD number! All our electrical storms continue along with Red Flag warnings here.

  13. Cindy S in VA

Closed 5 ads this morning and the blog looks good.
Geek squad helped me, too. Hang in there. We are all praying for a fabulous outcome!!!

  14. Mrs. Goodneedle

Know that you are missed; I won’t stop praying for a miracle. Nothing, noth8ng, is more frustrating than technology when it doesn’t work! Sending big hugs~

  15. Susan in PA

I don’t know what kind of equipment you are using but if it is Apple they will probably fix it at no charge if it is a software or a virus problem. When mine got messed up I took it to the Apple store and they took care of it. You’ll spend less time there if you call ahead for an appointment.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Susan In PA – the closest Apple store is 2-1/2 hrs. away but it would probably be worth the trip. Thanks for that suggestion.

  16. Kathy in western NY

Know we are rooting for your perseverance through this Mary. I miss seeing your posts more than you think because you are such a part of our lives. At least the top banner, your picture and the comments were all back in the places we are familiar with. Praying for patience and words & pictures again from you.

  17. Kathy in NY

And yes I had lots of ads to close so I hope you get credit for them through this frustration.

  18. Julie e

Such frustration and stress! It could be something real simple who knows 😩
    Good luck

  19. Terri

Big Miracle coming your way, we’re all praying. Love hearing from you. Can’t bear to think you might quit.

  20. Penny C Maryland

Mary, I am so sorry this is taking so long to fix. I pray it is fixed soon. Bless you!

  21. Jo in Wyoming

We will be patient. In the meantime, we will click ads, with or without X’s.
Is there a community college close? They may be able to help.

  22. Diann Smith

I love what you list and hope it fixes. Could you possibly need a new computer? Or maybe it is loaded with all the photos you’ve shown before. No matter. Missing them and know the Geek Squad can help.

  23. Cynthia

Can you or have you contacted Apple support directly..discussions.apple.com I could not get my copy and paste to post. from what I looked up. You have probably done this already.

  24. Susan Beck

    Mary,
Good luck! I so appreciate your cheerful posts and interesting photos. I’ve been missing these and wish you all the best getting your blog fixed. For book recommendations, I strongly support reading any or all of the Jackson Brodie novels by Kate Atkinson. I don’t remember any of these from your lists but I may have missed them. In case not, here they are in the order she wrote them:
    Case Histories
    One Good Turn
When Will There Be Good News?
    Started Early, Took My Dog
    Big Sky
    Cheers, Susan Beck

  25. Janice Hebert

Closed six ads and like others have said the blog “looks” good. So sorry that this is happening Mary. I don’t have any ideas but the Geek Squad has helped me in the past and it being an iPad I would think Apple could help in some way. Be nice if it could be remotely or even through a phone call? Deb Harrison is so nice to offer you a ride to the Apple Store! Such a great group of fans you have! Jan in MA where it’s gorgeous today!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Janice Hebert – I just made an appt for tomorrow and I know where that mall is located but yes, she was nice to ask!

  26. Gloria B.

Thank goodness for Apple support. Was just on vacation and iPhone locked up. – no phone at all. Found the closest Apple store in direction we were going and they took care of it. Bring a book or hand sewing while tech takes care of it. Hoping for speedy solution that relieves the stress. Thanks for putting up with the frustration.

  27. Annette F.

Mary, I want to say how much I appreciate your diligence. Knowing how inept I am w/technology, I am feeling your frustration. What to do next???? Hoping everything goes well tomorrow…..

I am so sorry this is happening to you. UGH. Please know all of us will wait patiently until it is fixed. We do not want you so stressed. Good luck at the Apple Store. They are so nice:) Hang in there, Mary.

  29. Fiona at Ice Bear Quilts

    Hi Mary,
Everything else about the blog’s appearance is back to normal, so I suspect this is a setting in your blog or on your ipad that has been inadvertently changed in all the hassle, or is the result of your new security settings. Given that others can post a photo onto your blog if you let them login, it looks as if I be a setting on your ipad or your own wifi/router/server that is causing the problem.
You could check the wifi/router/server by seeing if someone can post a photo using their device while in your house (that is using your network). If they can and you can’t it is probably a ipad device setting.
When it is all solved (❤️) don’t forget to change your password again, so that you are not vulnerable via the devices of other people who have used your login.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Fiona – yes, all those passwords will definitely have to be changed! What a hassle!

  30. Joyce from NY

Apple Store is a good choice, they are very good. I closed 3 ads today.! Hope you get some results soon for your sake!

  31. Jean

Mary, I just HATE that this has happened to you! Your blog means so much to me. I live very rural and it’s lonely out here. Praying that the apple people help you and can bring about an end to your frustration.

  32. Pat Smith

I’m SO sorry you are suffering through this. The Apple store is the best bet I think as those people really know what they’re doing. I’m missing seeing your pictures, but am closing all the adds. I hope they’re able to see what’s off when you’re in Des Moines. Computer things are my number one frustration, but my husband is pretty good and when he can’t fix something is willing to sit on hold with Apple over the phone to get answers. I’m not so patient. Thank you for recognizing how important your blog is to so many people and making the effort to get back in business.

  33. Mary Evans

Mary, I can’t help but step in here and asked if anyone helping you has checked your video card…..tho I am not sure the I-pad has one. But if SHE can post pics and you cannot that is what it sounds like to me. Be sure you ask the Apple people if you can get help on the phone if something happens again.

As for having an ‘intruder’ in your computer, I was under the impression from all my friends who have Apple products, and my sons who do, that it was very hard to be hacked. But what do I know? Just FWIW.

  34. Donna and Shirley

Hi Mary—why don’t you call Apple support? 1-800-275-2273. Did you buy Apple Care when you bought your IPAD. If not see if you can get it now. Apple support is so helpful and patient.

Donna and Shirley – I have an appointment tomorrow at the Apple store in Des Moines.

  35. Sunflower from Michigan

Good luck at the appointment tomorrow. I appreciate your hard work getting the blog back to normal.
I’ve started on my #3 project. My husband retired in July so he’s cutting into my sewing time! LOL. Take care.
