Just Another Day, 1-27-26

Man, January is boring especially when it’s too cold to go outside for any fun or even go someplace in the car. I had an icky day after my lunch plans fell thru. Then it improved when my cleaning lady came. And then it went to shit when the furniture store didn’t come before 5. After having a meltdown I checked the date. Oh dang – it’s tomorrow. So the things I turned down today because of that delivery I could have done after all. Sigh.

Tim update – he took off again for parts unknown. Millie forgave me but as soon as I try to give her medicine, she’ll hate me again.

So here’s how Tim can get to the basement without me knowing.

Back door into mud room – see cat flap?
Up the steps – see another cat flap in the door?
Across the room to the basement door – see the cat flap?

And that , My Friends, is how the cats get into the basement without me knowing. No, we’ve never had a wild creature in almost 50 years but there’s always a first time for everything! remember what Becky always says – “you can’t make this stuff up!”

Quilted with a Sashiko machine – I am so interested!

I’m so tired I don’t think I can accomplish anything tonight.

P.S. Does anybody watch Supernanny on YouTube or Facebook? She is soooo smart getting naughty kids to behave. Very entertaining!

For those interested in Reading “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” & “The Book Woman’s Daughter” by Kim Richardson, I got both on EBAY for under $12 and no shipping. One looks brand new.

Tim is a clever boy! My friends son had a sun room attached to his kitchen & he had a cat door and also a litterbox in the room. One morning as he was drinking his coffee he saw a strange cat saunter in through the cat door. The stranger hopped into the litter box, dumped a load then left through the cat door. I imagine he said, “Hey, thanks for letting me use your bathroom.” Life without pets would be a very boring way to live.

My husband has pulled many people out of the snowy or muddy road because of GPS. Right after our mailbox the road becomes a “minimum maintenance road”. That means no snow removal in the winter, no gravel, and the maintainer goes down the road 3-4 times during the summer. The stuck people usually say that GPS told them to go this way. The semi’s even try to go thru. The road is mainly used by the local farmers.

    Hi Mary and all!
I love Supernanny! She makes it look so obvious what the problem is. Usually, lazy parenting.
I am over on the Mississippi River in Winona, MN so we see Eagles quite often. I love to watch them fish.
    Take care,

Tim is a smart one. I agree not too many dumb cats. They can figure out and maneuver into a lot of places! Our sion and daughter, both teachers, are having their third snow day. I believe the whole state was closed Monday and Tuesday and most today. It is bitter cold and lots of kids walk or wait for buses. Jo, I like your saw saga! It was smart of you to take it in. I am
Hoping to get the binding on DD12 today. It is also my “ Get it done” project for Guild on Feb 17

The little saw story is making me laugh! And I don’t feel like Jo is being a needy widow! And as far as a man asking for directions, the GPS fixed that! But what’s funny, my hunny does not always believe the GPS!
Our kids in Michigan missed school again yesterday because of the snow. Yikes, they will be going to school until the middle of June! Our granddaughter was really bummed! She is tired of all the days off! The grandsons (oldest 3) have jobs they can go to, so they don’t mind, and the 3 year old loves it because he has someone to play with. Heather said it was SOOOO bitter they couldn’t even be outside! I can relate…you too Mary?
Mary, please show us what the furniture store brings!

Cats are the smartest creatures on earth and never cease to amaze with their ninja skills! I find Pepper in all kinds of weird places – on top of the kitchen cabinets, top shelf by the ceiling on the quilts stored upstairs and the basement has SSOO many hiding places!
When I take my granddaughter to preschool every day, we go via I-80. Along the Des Moines River are the eagles! The river is not frozen under that interstate bridge so they are trolling for food. Too many to count, maybe 30 to 50, some are perched in the trees, some are flying and soaring over the river. I would send a photo, but I’m driving and can’t stop. Highlight of my day in this cold weather. January and February are the best viewing months and makes the cold seem not so bad.
Finishing up a baby quilt today, then diving into something bigger and more challenging for the winter months.
More cold temps this weekend, sigh….

Diana – eagles!!! Becky has them in her wooded area but to see them every day like you do would be an absolute joy!!!

Mary a friend of mine bought a sashiko machine to get that hand quilted look stitch on her quilted items and it was neat. I’ve never looked to see the cost of them and it was a standard size machine.

Kathy – they are expensive $3500-$4500, the ones I could fine online. I dropped it but now I love it again and wonder where the closest Babylock dealer is.

Sometimes it’s good to play the “old lady” card, especially when the young blokes think 50 is old!! I wanted some extra melamine shelves for two built-in linen cupboards when we moved into this house. There were holes for the little buttons that hold up the shelves. The young man at the hardware store looked at the standard sizes I’d written down, and said it would be cheaper if we cut up a large sheet. I kept a straight face when he asked me “do you have an iron?”. He cut all the shelves to size for me, loaded them in the car, provided the iron-on edging strip and buttons, and we were both very happy with the outcome!

Well, now you know how Tim is coming and going.
I think January and February are the longest months of the year.

I purchased a battery powered saw for Christmas for me. It’s small, lightweight, and figured it a lot safer for me than the heavy duty equipment out in the shop. I opened it a couple weeks ago and no blade in it. So I go back to Menards and they gave me a blade. Last week I tried to put the bade on, but couldn’t get the lock button to engage. Today I returned to Menards again. After 5 fellows tried to remove the shaft to put the blade on, they declared the saw defective. Then they attempted to attach the blade that came with the new saw. It took 3 of them over 30 minutes to accomplish this. They all were wonderful, polite, and helpful to each other. I am determined to not be so needy. Belonging to the widows club sucks.

Jo- it’s almost rewarding that it took 3 of them
30 minutes to figure it out!!! Obviously you weren’t being needy!

Jo I’m smiling this morning visioning three men working on your lightweight saw cause this had to make them frustrated but they didn’t want to show it. Because something is new doesn’t mean it isn’t defective but people don’t like to accept it and expect perfection. I’ve lived with the same man for 56 years that still wouldn’t stop and ask for directions no matter how lost he is. But trusts a GPS with outdated software. 😁
