Love my chickens! 6-12-24

The dogs and I spend a lot of time with our chickens – this is how I’ve trained all my dogs. More pictures:

I had just taken the picture of Hazel with my IPad and she brought me a twig to throw so I grabbed my phone and got this picture – little twigs don’t “throw” well and we go through this many many times a day.

Remember Larry, Cynthia’s husband who got burned when doing yard work removing landscape material? He’s back in the hospital for a skin graft and a reader suggested we send cards to Larry . I think it’s a wonderful idea – our first man to get cards. I’m sending mine today. Cynthia is a faithful blog follower and I appreciate her keeping in touch via the comments.

Talked to Richard last night – he’s out of ideas and so I’m going to try to contact WordPress – you know how that goes – they give you a list of problems online with solutions which I don’t even understand. Hang in there with me if you can.

Since we all love the flowers and gardening pictures, let’s do a Points of Interest feature again. When I see a pretty tableau I just have to take a picture. You could do the same and send it to my email:

maryehazel2020@gmail.com

I’ve got a few other ideas, too. But I don’t want to miss these long awaited summer pictures.

I’m going to book club this morning for the last time. I’m going to drop out because I simply don’t enjoy clubs and meetings. Connie’s the one who loves groups and meetings and get togethers, not me.

This afternoon Becky and I are entertaining the residents at Concord with those old familiar songs like Home On the Range, The Bible Tells Me So and It Is No Secret. They like to sing or hum along.

When I get home Hank is coming for a visit – we’ll start training him with the chickens. His mom and I will sit in the midst of the chickens with Hank on a leash for now so he gets used to them being nothing special. It will be stressful at first but will get better.

Still working on my triangles – not much time to sew. I know you understand. A cardinal was just now at the feeder t outside the porch. Mom saying good morning???

One reader photo?

Found online – great use of HST set on point

I can respond to this entry today – 6/13/2024 – and, I apologize for not commenting for a minute. I start my day at work reading your blog post! Most of the time, I have to get to work shortly there after! lol I will make a conscious effort to comment more regularly.

    Have a blessed day!

I haven’t had any problems seeing the comments either. I read your daily news in my email. At the end, I click on the green box for comments. Then I can add my two cents worth or scroll up to read everyone else’s comments.
Many times it may the individual reader’s settings on their computer, then it isn’t a problem on your end. Reading other comments above, there are several ways to access your blog and the comments. If one way doesn’t work, then we need to try another process.
I really enjoy reading about your day and other’s comments. Your farmstead is beautiful and I so love seeing your porch – I wish we had the space to do something like that. I get inspiration from seeing orther’s quilt pictures.
My mojo “took a major hike” about 1 1/2 years ago and it is just now starting to hint a few times of returning. I pull out projects, fondle the fabrics, get ready to start cutting – then nothing . After several days, I end up putting it all away again . I read blogs, watch tutorials, etc., get all excited and repeat: pull, fondle, get ready, nothing. One of these days!

Linda – I agree some may need to adjust settings but the majority of these women, like me, are bad with technology. How do I help them? I don’t want to lose them as readers! My screen looks nothing like your screen, I’m sure. I have no green box and I have a little tab at the bottom of the comments page that I click to write a new post. You probably don’t have that. With the recent update it must have affected some differently than others. What so you think? Is that possible?

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Linda – obviously the readers who need to read this can’t see it – and I copy and paste your advice in another post?
Regarding your mojo – if you want my advice and if you do want to get it back, pick some small project – even a 9 patch coaster and so if you feel more like sewing again. I think starting is the hardest part and before I started these HST I kind of enjoyed not having something waiting for me to work on each evening. I had to MAKE myself start and now Im glad I did.
Let me know how you feel about using your advice.

Oh Linda, I can do relate. Now that I’m retired i think I am going to get so much done, and nada. I read and watch tv, keep up with basic tidying. Sometimes I get a super of energy and cook for myself, but I just don’t have the get up and go that I had while working. I retired at 71. I get a walk around the block 3 or 4 times a day to give the dog exercise.haha!
I just need more discipline. It makes me happy when I get things done so it’s just self-sabotaging in my case.

Today is the 13th. I tried one more time to see if I could get comments. I clicked on blog and here it is. WOW! Enjoyed all the pictures of the chickens, dogs, and quilts of the last three posts.

Nancy – Donna told me the same thing – WTH?? I don’t care why! If it’s back to normal I’m thrilled – maybe others will let me know, too.

  4. Donna Jo

So this morning I checked your blog and I clicked on the comments again and here I am. There was only one day that the comment section disappeared for me. Hope it’s fixed!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Donna Jo – WHAT??? You mean it worked as it usually and always did? Of, if that’s the case I can cancel the live chat with WordPress!

I’ve had problems , in the last week or so, when I try to read or post comments on the blog. I try the usual way of clicking on the title but, the comment section doesn’t come up. However, I can try again sometime later and there it is. Fingers crossed it works itself out without any trouble. Thanks for your persistence in working it out.

I wrote a comment last night but for some reason it didn’t post. Who knows why… I love your dogs with the chickens. I hope Hank gets the hang of thinks soon. The chickens are so pretty. It was 90 yesterday. Too hot for me to pick berries. We have black raspberries coming on strong right now. I’ll get out shortly before the heat rolls in. Stay safe everyone.

  7. Sunflower 🌻 from Michigan

    Mary,
Hi, just now back from a quick trip to Indy for my son-in-laws birthday. Helped my daughter in her garden and finished planting her vegetables and flowers. Her garden areas are gorgeous and she plants in shifts so she’ll have flowers blooming longer if that makes sense to you.
To Diane, Buddy and squeak, I love the placemats! 🌻

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sunflower – oh, it makes perfect sense and Master Gardeners can figure that out. I’m lucky if I get a few zinnias to grow. How long a drive is it for you to Indy? My geography for your area is not good. Did Biscuit miss you?

  8. Donna Jo

Mary I didn’t have any trouble getting to the comments either. I just clicked on comments. Tomorrow I will mail a card to Larry. Hope your day with Hank’s chicken training went well. I bet the people at Concord enjoyed you and Becky’s performance today. We have a heat advisory tomorrow. Ugh.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Donna Jo – you’re kidding! Why are some readers finding it impossible and you had no trouble? How will I figure this out???
The wind was blowing 40 mph and threatening to storm so Hank’s chicken training was postponed. We will try again. He is such a great pup – I just love him but I know how much work puppies are and I can’t do it ever again.

      1. patti

mary, with all the information from readers, you probably don’t have to do anything. sometimes we readers need to just push a couple buttons and figure it out. it shouldn’t all be on you. i never knew about clicking on the title to get to comments. now i do. readers can inform readers. thanks again for all you do. patti in florida

  9. Brenda in Georgia

I do not have trouble getting to the comments at all. I just click on the title of the post and I can read and then go to the comments. Love all the photos of the chickens and the dogs!

Wow! It got warm here today! 90* it is 88 now. I worked in the garage today as it was getting hard to find a path to the back door, I broke down boxes, won’t need them, and swept, and I will have to take the cardboard to the recycling bin in Ghent tomorrow and I have styrofoam too andI will take it to Marshall to the recycling place. Every little bit helps for cleaning out stuff. It just stacks up a bit. Larry continues to heal, and today my other cousin, Marsha and her husband Doug visited with him. So nice. I will go see him in a couple of days. Boost is great for a protein source so he gets this with his meals. They have to keep a trained eye on his skin graft. I will be doing his cares when he gets discharged plus telehealth calls and visits to the burn clinic ahead as well. This evening I am going to start inventorying and straightening up my sewing zone.. not that I really need things to do, but I have straightened out drawers and closets because I hate to just sit around all the time, it’s a mess for a bit. Then what is left out, I have to figure out where it goes next. Soon it will be time to mow the lawn again. Busy! Larry will be surprised to receive get well wishes from your blog readers! I sent my greeting to Leona today too!

When I got to the end of the blog text, that was it. I went back to the top and clicked on today’s title; “5 Comments” came up under the title on which I clicked. It took me to the comments section at the end of which was the box for the next comment.
I love the pictures of the dogs and beautiful chickens. Good luck with Hank’s training; he will do fine.
Thanks so much, Mary, for all you go thru to bring us this blog. 🥰

I just clicked on your name area and it went to your blog page with ads and I was able to comment.

Pamela – I can’t believe it! Oh, I hope it’s working again. Thanks for letting me know.

  13. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

Took me a minute to figure out how to get to comment, all good. Love your pretty new hens and the dogs are well behaved 🥰. We’ve been having temps in the 90s and have to get out early to get any yard work done. Yesterday was my 65th birthday and am Medicare covered now. Had a nice day at sewing and a good burger 🍔 for dinner out. 😻

  14. Carolyn in NE Illinois

Everything is there on the blog, just have a couple extra clicks. We are inundated with cicadas here – can’t do much outside and by the time they’re gone next month, it will be too hot! Love that the dogs ignore the hens – so well trained!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Carolyn – will you tell me step by step how you got to the comments section?

  15. patti

aha, here you are. this square wasn’t there much earlier today. glad to see you. was good to hear that larry is coming along as well as expected. that quilt you found a picture of looks like it would use your triangles well. might be boring stitching but would work while watching tv. soft colors. it is so hot here today, i swear my a/c can’t be working right. but i’ve been working in the bedroom changing out the chest. left paper patterns in the plastic roll away so i can go through them again while on tv. pulled out old calendars that immediately went into recycle. found a rotating mat that i can use while trimming things like squares, tris, etc. i got so hot i had to sit. will rest the rest of tonight and throw together a sandwich with left-over chicken tonight. hugs to all, patti in florida
