When I went to the barn this morning I knew something was wrong – things were moved around by the kitten’s nest and sure enough when I peaked under the table everybody was gone!!! It’s cold and rainy and miserable outside – I wondered if I’d ever see them again.
Voila! I had put a box in the enclosed pen that Mama used to stay in and Saturday I plugged in the heat bulb again.
Here is the pen with the door closed because guess what! Mama moved the kittens to my box!!!! I quickly closed the door and put food and water in the pen.
They can’t get out of this pen – I won the battle!!! Now I can sit in the pen with the kittens and Mama can’t get away either. Prayers answered, thanks to all of you! Now I’ll be able to see how many kittens are in the box and I’ll be able to get them all to a vet – even Mama!
Like I said, I am giddy with relief and happiness!!!
That is good news to start your week on..thanks for sharing!
Congratulations on your success. I bet you were stressed loosing them especially with the bad weather. Take good care of them; I know you will. Maybe mama will come around to your way. Good luck.
Yay! So happy for you. I remember how our barn kitties would hide the kittens and it was hard to find them. Cannot wait to find out how many there are. A great start to the week!
What a smart and protective mama.
Mama doesn’t look happy!!!
Good catch for you 👍
Mamma will realize that she is safe and so are her babies. It is May DAY so all is right in the world at least if you don’t watch the news.
Where there is a will, always be a way. The story continues.
I’m relieved too as they will be well cared for by you; and you will make sure there are not more farm cats out there having more kittens than are needed to protect barns from unwanted rodents. Plus, the kittens are so cute they may be adoptable.
Blessed are YOU, Mary, for all you do. xoxoxo
Mama is smart to find a warm place for her babies. She has an angry look in her eyes. If she only understood what a loving person you are. You feed her, give her shelter and mean well….until you adopt out her babies. What a sweet pic. Wish I could adopt one but my boys are too old to accept a playful kitten. Enjoy & I hope mama will accept you. Wear gloves and protect your arms Mary. Thanks for the farm news.
That is such wonderful news! I am happy with you 🙂
Have a great day enjoying this sweet success. Now Mama kitty and her babies can have a more peaceful future too!
Yay! Cats all love a good box! And a heat lamp is irresistible, too. Smart Mama!
It was wonderful to read how snug and comfortable they all are in this miserable, raw Spring weather.
I wouldn’t put it past the kittens to squeeze their way out of the pen, though. A friend’s kittens could squeeze under closed doors – I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it myself.
Good for you, and for Mama and the kittens!
I will keep my fingers crossed that you will be able to tame all of them. Hopefully Mama Cat will realize that she has a good life at your farm and she will stay.
It’s it great when all things work out…..God is good!
Awww… that is wonderful! What an answer to prayer. Now they are really safe and sound.
That really is a miracle. Look forward to their progress.
Wonderful news!!! Your love is gaining her trust little by little. ❤️
Terrific news! Can’t wait to see the little ones growing up!
Hurray!! You are a great caregiver to all. Mama looks like Grumpy Kitty, but she’ll come around. Can’t wait to see those babies.
I think you should name momma Kitty MAY
Yeah!
Good news..that heat lamp must have been a big temptation !!!
Our deer were back this morning. Now we can get a mineral block and a bale of hay. Winter has really stressed deer, elk and moose here in Idaho; many didn’t make it thru the winter.
Great news!!
Awwwww! That is so sweet, Mary. ❤
Glad they are safe and protected in your care. Mama cat will eventually realize your sincerity in keeping her well and come around. Patience and just never giving up. She’s there for a reason as they always say a cat finds you. Spring has been wierd here in upstate NY and I keep looking at the doves with their nests and hope they are warm enough. I know…what would life be if I didn’t worry about something!
Good Job!!! What a special Pet friend you are!!! God bless you and the kitties.
Joy! Made my day! It is May Day but it doesn’t feel like it.
Enjoy your little family to take care of! Love the box set-up!
Momma doesn’t look to happy with you! LOL! So glad they are safe. Hopefully they can get used to you and make sweet pets for someone. My daughter caught a male stray cat and had it nuetered and then released it again. It still comes around to eat and rest in her backyard.
They are beautiful kitties so hope and pray mama will realize how much you help them and will warm up to you. Food may be the secret.
Best way ever to start a new month and a new week! Hooray for the felines!
Good job on corraling the kitty cats!! Mama’s not lookin’ too happy, tho’!! Maybe it’s just the “Monday morning” look!! Hoping for better days with them soon!! Mama probably won’t be too happy after a vet visit. . . .
With patience and persistence you’ll have a wonderful family of friendly, loving cats.
Great! Mama looks unhappy about the situation.
We had mama kitty and two 8 day old kittens on the back step thru all this rain! We made her a warm and dry spot and she was pretty happy with it (so were the cats not invited in!) Too many cats, not enough shelter. Thank goodness for the sunshine today.
I don’t know Mary – Mama does NOT look happy….that’s the same look that our cat Emma had after we had to give her a course of antibiotics. I was the giver, and that was the look I always got forever after lol.
What a great story….what a good Mama to get the kittens to a warm spot….
I’d move for some warmth and comfort. Hope momma cat learns to appreciate you!!
Wonderful success! I see a Chewy box. Aren’t they the best?
You are an awesome Lady!
Maybe Mama’s saying, “This is MY box now! You want a nice box like this, you go find your own box and move in there! This box is taken. I just got all the kids moved in, fed and down for a nap and we are not going anywhere. Do you know how hard it is to find a warm, dry, safe home for a growing family in a rural community? And this one has the sun shining all day, and in a gated community, no less. You’re welcome to come visit, but this is the new house for me and the kids.”
Best news ever! I’m a huge lover of cats. So glad for you!
Great story! Mama looks pretty ferocious and protective!
Well done, Mary! That was a smart move with the lamp and the box. Good luck with them from here on in.
I’m so happy for you! Wishing you good luck as they come to know your love.
When I started reading my heart felt sad, but when I realized that they were OK,, I was happy for them and for you. Hope the sun shines tomorrow.
Yeah! Don’t forget the Temptations, they make kitties friendly real quick.
Ginny – she gets some every day – thanks to you!
I was going to suggest a live trap but your pen is better! Big enough that she will not feel trapped. I hope you will be able to have tame kittens and eventually win the trust of mama Ferrell cat. Sometimes they just stay apprehensive but you have made great progress. The kittens are adorable and mama is pretty too!
Have you ever heard of “Archie and Mehitabel?” Mehitabel is portrayed by Carol Channing — perfect!
You are one smart woman! you know how to live on a farm for sure.
Joanne – it’s years of practice! Ha!
She sure doesn’t look too happy but I’m sure you will win her over! It’s cold here in Silverdale WA, not sure we will have spring this year!
Giddy up! Mama sure looks like an angry screech owl telling you to stay away from her babies. Do you think she’ll try to make a run for it when you crack open the jail cell to feed her and the babies?
Brenda – I’ve gone in twice today and she almost looks relieved and relaxed. I am so glad they’re all safe now!
Such wonderful news for your kittens and momma so lucky to have such a smart human to help them
You are the best
Colleen
Your Mama cat is a little beauty. I sure hope she will allow you to turn her into a pet.
Yay! Very clever! Now you can help keep them all healthy!
