DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE ANIMALS! I hate the circus anyway but by the time I got toward the end my eyes skimmed the pages until I threw the book down. Not fast enough – I saw what they did to the elephant. It made me sick and I can’t unsee it.

Let’s end on this picture of a beloved dog with her pillow and blanket. Could there be anything sweeter?
Pages: 1 2
I love the photos of all the farm animals. They bring me a soft feeling of peace.
Today the deer came out of the woods to get to the apple trees. There are random apples on the trees and these deer were determined. As they tried to leap, you could see that the snow was deeper than their belly height. They really struggled. One has a broken leg and I really hated watching her struggle; she’s been alive a few years with that broken leg, pretty amazing.
Blue skies today, sunshine, so lots of compacting of snow and a little melting today. Icicles are forming, they look like glistening swords hanging from eaves.
Our official snow count was 80 inches. The National Guard was on our street with a backhoe and a front loader. They are trucking snow to a community college parking lot. The dangerous mountains of snow at street corners were removed today. You still can’t see what’s coming and going at the ends of driveways. Today the driving ban was lifted, but you are only supposed to be on the streets if it is urgent and important. Wine and beer shortages do not count!
Schools are closed through Sunday, a full week off. That is helping to keep streets clear of traffic.
I worked on a quilt I’m trying to finish, and you’ll feel this pain: the last row of carefully pinned points, the last seam finishing the top, turned out to be air sewn… bobbin ran out six inches into it! Boy, I hate when that happens!
Carol, I can’t even imagine what 80 inches of snow would be like. Stay safe and warm.
Good to see the dogs having a romp in the yard. It’s nice to see them so content in your care.
I wondered , Carol, where they were going to pile all that snow. I saw a loader on the news pushing a mountain of snow. Thank goodness this type of storm is not every winter but with the lakes here so warm, it’s an occurrence with cold winds blowing across. Living by all these lakes provides such beauty most months of the year so we are blessed.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I went to one large grocery store this morning and it was packed with families, but I have to share this one amazing thing I saw. Many were families (generations you could tell) and shopping together with paper lists! I only saw one couple using their phone checking their list. I had to chuckle seeing the paper lists and young people crossing off things as they went down aisles. As busy as they were, seeing this togetherness brought a smile to my face.
Always fun to see a dog and a goat being together peacefully. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Carol…I wish I had a nickel for every time I have run out of bobbin and didn’t know it. What a surprise at the end!! You’re so happy it’s done and then…opps. Not done after all. Your account of the snowstorm has been so interesting. Thanks for reporting it so well.
Mary, your dogs look so happy. Lots of games and things to do on the farm. Finn and Ivy must love to come for play dates.
It has warmed up and it’s going to rain tomorrow here on the Southern Oregon coast.
Sue – Ivy and Finn are on their way to Grandpa and Grandma’s house in Brainerd, MN where they will play with Jake, another Bernadoodle. Such fun they’ll have but I’ll miss them.
I rather like the no color picture when I buy a $5 pattern. If gives me the freedom to use my imagination and pick colors “like what I saw on the blog” and later when I look on the blog again it really is nothing like the picture! It is me! 🙂 Love the dog pictures but a no go at my house…for a variety of reasons we cannot have a dog 🙁
Bridget – excellent point! You can see values stead of colors and take it from there. Thanks for your comment!

A couple days early , but next two days will be hectic & busy & I want to be sure to wish you Mary & Rick, along with your devoted reader a Happy Thanksgiving. Hope all can share time with family & friends. Be safe & have a great holiday.
Nikki – thank you! And what are you doing on Thursday – are you cooking? How’s the construction going? Think of you often.
I love to see pictures of Keeper. He sure has a wonderful life with you on the farm as do all your animals. You have such a big heart. Thank you for the blog and all the inspiration therein . Happy Thanksgiving!
Can’t miss Keeper and those ears! My dogs only fight over sticks, only Sammie cares about her squeaky toys, Miles the lab and Elliot the golden only like sticks and then Sammie want one too so I often have three dogs on a stick! We have lots of woods and broken branches fall in our winds so there is always ample to choose from but they all want the same one!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am cooking most of the dinner, stepdaughter is bringing sides.
Thank you, Mary, for the beautiful picture of Susannah. I will treasure it! The dogs look so happy. My three granddogs just got done howling as a group. They would love to be outside with my son-in-law who is working on packaging deer meat. The temps are near 50 today. The snow here is all gone. That’s good for people travelling for Thanksgiving. I really like the Looks Like a Gameboard pattern. I have to check to see if I have it. It looks so nice on your table with the pine tree. I hope you and Rick and everyone on the blog have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Take care.
Diane in WI – I am almost howling myself thinking of your three dogs wanting to get in on the fun!! Temps the same here – feels like the end of March or early April instead of Thanksgiving! Have a happy one!
