A reader asked if I had lots more light into the house since that large limb was gone. Not really. Here’s the north side of the house – 4 small windows and a tiny skylight. (Remodeled with energy in mind due to Iowa’s cold winter winds from the Northwest.). The limb was laying over top of the skylight – I was sure I took a before picture but can’t find it. On the east and south of the house we have 24 windows and full glass doors. Again – with Iowa’s climate in mind.

Our friend, Mary Ellen of Little Quilts fame, showed me her wonderful chair that she had reupholstered – it’s nearly like mine in size and shape. Don’t you love it? I would have had to put a print instead of a solid on the seat because of course a dog or cat would be sleeping in it.

Reader photos

The next photos are from Teresa who will explain in the comments section.

Teresa will explain about the flowers and the cake. See the comments.

And here’s a surprise – it’s Tim! Rick’s been telling me about a dark gray spotted cat in the woodshed but I had no idea it was Tim who used to eat in the barn with Mama. I believe the dogs probably chased him in the grove so now he’s terrified. And I just want him to take up residence in the barn again.
The Fever won tonight but the third quarter was worrisome. Caitlyn could have broken more records but she’s such a team player that she passes it off to a teammate. Like Becky said, she’s not greedy.
I’m taking a poll – can you read the blog post on the email?
Do you have to go online to read?
Trying to figure out why some can read it and others can’t. You know how I love this kind of stuff. Grrrr….
Is there a difference between old subscribers and new?
Had some of the best fish and chips for lunch today from a food truck called Off The Hook. Try them if you see them in your area – I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Hmmm…I wonder where they’ll be tomorrow.
That’s it for tonight.

I read from the email but have to comment on the blog
I can read the blog in the email but have to go to the web to comment
Mary, I read the blog in my email. Then go to the top and it takes me go Google on line.
I read the blog with my email, but go online to see the comments. I watched last night’s game. It was very exciting!
That’s exactly what I do.
Hi Mary,
I read your blog in my emails. I can no longer comment in the email, I have to go out to the blog on line. But it’s prettier online because you have the background formatting.
I always share you blog with my husband. I just say, “Mary from Iowa” and he knows I’m talking about you.
Love be with you! Susy
Hi Mary,
I can read this on email, but must go to the blog to comment.
Hope you are feeling better and get some answers soon!
Hi, Mary!
Your blog link comes to my e-mail; then I click on the heading and can read it. The comment section is usually there…
Love the photos!
Hi Mary, yes, I’m about like everyone else. I can read on my email on my phone and online. I sure do wish we could get comments via email again. The only way to see new comments and/or replies now is to go back to the blog and re-read and find any new comments. Sometimes I’d love to read all the comments….but I don’t have time every day to always go back and read new ones, whereas, if I got an email with new comments, I could read them on the spot. NOT a world problem….guess I got used to the good life when it was that way before.
Another comment on the bird chair….it’s unique…but for the life of me I can’t see myself actually sitting in it with all those birds around my back. It would give me the creeps. LOL! But…neither could I pick up a chicken or hold a cat. So…don’t mind me. LOL!
Deb – WHAT? Why can’t you pick up a cat or a chicken? I could understand the chicken but the cat?
Yes, I wish WordPress would change it back so we could all be comfortable again. Ugh.
I have you book marked so I read on the blog.To post a comment I have to click on replies at the top of the page.
I love fish and the truck was at the Theisens store a month or so ago. After I found out it was $15 for 3 small pieces of fish and a few fries I had to pass.
I love the flowers and cake.Well done.
Judy – well, mine was 4 decent size pieces and more fries than I could eat plus two different sauces.
Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments on both the cake and flowers.
There have been a few questions about the cake.
For Sue in PA. It is a 3 layer carrot cake, I baked each layer in a 6” cake pan that was three inches tall so each layer ended up being a generous 2.5 inches tall. I have a wonderful cream cheese icing that doesn’t use nearly as much sugar and is pipeable, it doesn’t become runny like my normal cream cheese icing does it if gets hot. I put a cake cardboard between the top layer and the middle layer so when they did the cake cutting they only had to cut through one layer. They didn’t serve the cake for dessert as the caterer supplied dessert and they wanted to keep the cake themselves. I laughed at that one. I believe they froze one layer. Funny thing is you ice the whole cake and then with a foot long straight edge used for cake decorating you scrape the icing off till you get the cake as “naked” as you want it. You put more icing between layers than normal. It wasn’t difficult though I just about dropped it moving it from the turntable to the cake plate. Using real flowers is really nice as I can’t make icing flowers.
I get both the email version and the website . I can only leave a comment on the website.
Teresa, your wedding flowers and cake are just stunning. How nice that you and your son could put your talents to work and make them for the big day. My good friend made my wedding cake and I still dream of that cake, yum. I do love the pictures of everyone quilting space, so many wonderful and creative storage ideas and decorating ideas. We had our woods cleaned out and now we get to enjoy the wildlife that we get to see. Yesterday we had 2 pileated woodpeckers busy with one of the stumps (we left it on purpose) and then a family of red headed woodpeckers and 3 young ones. We are loving the activity and hope it continues. We have the patio in and the landscapers will start shortly. We are putting a variety of dwarf wildflowers in our woods and part of the side lawn. Less mowing will be great. I cant comment on the email but I can on the blog and I can close ads on the blog. I choose to read on the blog. So glad your feeling better Mary, I love the blog about nothing.
Thank you Kim for your nice comments. The cake is carrot cake, their favourite. I thought about making a mini cake for their first anniversary. We will see if I remember to do that.
I, too, can read some of the blog and see some of the pictures from my email but have to go online
to read the comments and see the comment box. That Tim is a lovely cat and I hope he soon feels
safe enough to go back to the barn. I have two wingback chairs (bought at a consignment shop years ago for $50 each) just like Mary Ellens. They look pretty dowdy compared to what Mary Ellen did with hers but they are so comfortable. Perhaps it is time to get these guys recovered.
Also wanted to tell Teresa and her son that they should be proud of themselves. The flowers are lovely.
That deep ruby red rose is awesome.
Hi Mary, thank you for your comments. The dark red is a carnation not a rose. So many people thought they were roses. We did have creamy white roses but all the red is carnations. We both learned so much from this endeavour. Glad both my boys are married and I won’t have to do this again. It was enjoyable but stressful too. In the end we were so happy with everything.
I can’t help but add, “Theydon’t make them like they used to”! I would get them recovered! I can only wish to have a comfortable chair like the ones we are seeing in the blog!
Cindy – I paid $7 for this chair and it fits me! It’s not too stuffed or too deep. It’s a great chair to sit in and read. Look for great old furniture at your thrift store. Last week there was the most wonderful big square table with huge legs – probably oak – for $25! But where would I put it?
It is hard to part with something to make room for a new find! For sure!
I’ve never had the blog emailed to me, so read either on the desktop computer or on my phone. Computer is good for the text; phone is good if I want to expand the pictures to see details.
There are many good pictures today.
Like so many, I read on the blog to see the comments too. The email comes through fine, just without the comment section.
Teresa’s flowers and cake are gorgeous! I’m sure the wedding was lovely..
I’m working on a rug using Mary’s booklet. My nephew asked if i would make him one for his bedroom. How can I say no? 😄 He wants it in red, white & blues.
Mary, I’m so glad you are feeling better. I’ll keep you in my prayers anyway. I look forward to your blog postings.
Tim the kitty is such a pretty cat. Special markings.
Stafe safe everyone and have a great weekend.
Mary, I forgot to let you know, the kittens are coming to the house for their food now. Won’t be too long now and we’ll have them eating at what we call the cat house. It’s something my husband built to keep the birds from eating all the cat food
Kimmy – take a picture of the kittens and send to me!
We also ran across the fish and chips from Off the Hook. I don’t know why, but several months ago, I received an email they would be in Galesburg IL, which is about 45 minutes from us. We were not busy that day, so we enjoyed a great lunch. In July, we were camping in Gering/Scottsbluff NE. I don’t really recall how we knew Off the Hook was in Scottsbluff, but we enjoyed their wonderful fish and chips once again.
Mary, I know you are dealing with this serious health situation; but, in the meantime, we are grateful to hear you are feeling better and are not in constant pain. Keeping you in our prayers. Thanks for the blog.
🥰
Hi all! I get the email notification, but then click over to the blog so I can read comments, or occasionally post a comment, plus click on the ads. Loving all the sewing room pics. It’s always nice to see how others organize. or, if you’re like me, try to organize! Mine is organized chaos!
Mary, I am so glad you’re feeling better. Continued prayers for you and your readers. Love this blog
I use an iPad. I can read the blog on email, but not the comments. I almost always read the blog online rather than the email because I can enlarge the print to fill the screen.
Teresa’s flowers are beautiful.
I keep getting a pop up box to sign up but I am already getting the email.
Sewing time has been short, but garden season is almost over. I am looking forward to the tomatoes being done. Too many and most are not good. They look great on the outside, but may be white and hard on the inside. I looked it up…white core. I think that is what I have. It said the soil was too hot when the tomatoes were ripening or the soil is low on phosphorous. It has been hot and I don’t know about the phosphorous level. Anyone know what varieties are not prone to white core? I found a list on the internet but they were talking about commercial varieties. I didn’t find any varieties listed that I find in the local garden shops.
Keep your writings and the pictures coming. All is interesting.
Read on email. Need to go to blog to comment.
Same for me regarding being able to read on the email but go to the blog to comment. It maddens me when they do updates and things change. Recently after an update I no longer receive a blog that I love (Farmhouse Quilts and Friends) by email. I have no idea why and haven’t been able to fix it so far.
Love all the photos. Time has such unusual markings on his face that you would always be able to recognize him. He is lovely. I hope things work out for his best interest. Thinking about you all the time!
Brenda – I still had Tim’s picture on my phone to look at and I knew immediately that it was him. Look how his nose is marked.
I click on blog, so I have a comment box. I love Milly; she knows which chairs are great for napping. Tim is a pretty boy; I hope he gets brave enough to eat in the barn with Mama. I was happy to hear in a previous post that Fluffybun is becoming more pleasant. You have worked wonders on her, Mary! I also loved seeing the cute dog on the comfy four-poster bed.
Thanks for such a newsy post and great pictures. 🥰
I have always clicked on the heading of each email and read it online as that is where I can post a comment if I want to.
We really enjoyed the game last night. We were a little afraid in the third quarter if they would get back on top. Caitlin was great again. They are gelling as a team which is so good to see. And yes, Caitlin wants to win more than break more records. She is not selfish at all.
Thanks for your blog.
I can read the emails but for comments I click on blog at the top of the email. I also wondered how you are feeling now? Hopefully you are feeling better. I love the reader’s photos plus ALL your photos too!
Did the reader ever let you know what fabric that bottle opener pad was made of? I desperately need something to help open bottles too. Arthritis is NOT a good friend. I use whatever is handy now to grip them plus same in kitchen.
Thanks for your emails. I look forward to them every night!!! (Saying hello from Southern Illinois)
Dee, it’s shelf liner that you can buy at Walmart, Target, hardware stores that carry those sorts of items. Then it IA piece of fabric is sowen to it.
I just read the posts. Thanks to them for answering mine.
Thank you for telling me what the material was in the gripper pad. Yes, I have that very shelf liner here and will make some of them. Thanks for your help.
Dee – she has answered again in this comment section. This is the second time – if you don’t read everyday, you’ll miss things.
I do not get notifications from these posts. I only found their answers by saving the email and going back to the blog again. I need to see why I am not getting the notifications. Sorry to have missed their answers.
Dee, I have lots of the shelf liner stuff used for making the jar grippers. If you email me, I will cut you a piece and you can make one for yourself. Here is my email. kimlemere@gmail.com Happy to send it in a regular envelope and then you don’t have to have a roll of it hanging around. Mine is light tan in color.
Thanks for answering me, Kim. I will email you.
I have rolls of that here at home that I have used in the kitchen to secure special breakables. I never thought of using that to make a gripper pad. I certainly will make some. Thanks for your offer to send me some. That was very thoughtful of you! I do have some here already but really appreciate your kindness.
I did not get notifications on your answers so that is why I am delayed in responding. I had saved the email and went to the blog, so that is how I found your response. Thanks again.
Isn’t odd that the new replies end up at the beginning of the comments? To see What you are referring to you have to read on.
Carolyn – I think it’s all odd – I’m sure WordPress is controlled by a bunch of male nerds who have never tried to see if it’s user friendly like it used to be.
Hi Mary! I can read the entire post in email but I have to go to the blog to see any comments.
Mary, I can read the blog post in my email. I also have a bookmark for the blog, which I will use to check for new postings if I don’t want to sign into my email, or if I want to check for and read any new comments. I have always read and added comments on the blog itself (not via email as some have mentioned). I have encountered a problem posting comments since the last update. You have mentioned recently, that you need to click on the read blog link in the email to be transferred to the blog and then post a comment. This doesn’t always work for me. I don’t get the Leave a Reply box for the comments when there are no other comments for the post. I usually wait an hour or two then see if there are comments (going directly to the blog). If so, I do get the Leave a Reply box for the comments. Every time I read the blog since the last update, I get a pop-up box to subscribe. I did re-subscribe once via this pop-up and I did confirmed it via a corresponding email. I have restricted security settings on my computer so I don’t get the ads. Janice in Traverse City area
Janice – I was just confirming what I suspected had happened after the last update. I guess it is what it is
I can read on my email but not comments. Also, sometimes pictures are distorted. But if I click on blog at top of page. I can leave comments and pictures are normal.
Wedding flowers are lovely. I worked in a flower shop for 10 years. I loved it!
Thank you Deb, what a nice compliment from someone who worked at a flower shop. We were able to buy the flowers at a wholesale flower company that also sells retail. What we paid for all the flowers was less than we would have paid for the 18 vases. That was our incentive.
Teresa, the flowers and cake were lovely. I am curious about the cake. It is very tall but does not appear to be very large in circumference. How many people did it serve and was it difficult to cut? I have never seen a cake like this before. What flavor was it? I love it, especially with the flowers decorating it.
I can read a short post in my e-mail but can only get comments if I go to your site. If the blog is longer it stops, so I go to the site. Not a problem!
I spent the past year being treated for breast cancer. There were times it was challenging. Having a good support system is key…I think you have that covered! We’re with you on your journey. We have a strong club of survivors!
Julie, I hope you’re feeling well. I hope it was caught early. Annual mamograms are so important and unfortunately many women put them off.
I have to leave the email also & go to the blog to answer. Hope you are feeling better every day. Enjoy your weather up there. It’s still brutal here in Texas. I’m in the DFW area & our highs today & tomorrow will be 103 & 105. Hoping it’s not too much longer for the extreme temps. I can handle the 90’s but this is too hot even for a Texas girl.
I read my email. Touch blog at the top of your email. I’m using my iPad
Debby from Wisconsin
I too can read it in my email but if I want to comment or close ads needs to click read on blog.
Mary said I would comment regarding the cake and flowers. My son got married on July 27th it was a beautiful ceremony on a friend’s acreage. They had always wanted a wedding at their place but never had before. I made the wedding cake – it is called a Naked cake, this is the second wedding cake I’ve made though the last had icing on it. I keep saying I don’t make wedding cakes and now I’ve made two. The flower pictures are mine as well, my son and I made up 18 vases, 6 bouquets, 2 boutonnières, two flower girl baskets and two pocket squares. We are not florists just creative people willing to take a chance. Though we did a practice run with the flowers in May so we would know how much to order. They turned out beautiful. We were very proud of ourselves.
Beautifully done. Thanks for sharing
Your flowers were lovely! I am sure they loved them for the wedding!
The flowers are beautiful!
The flowers are beautiful! The cake is so simple and stunning.
Your cake and flowers are so beautiful! Breathtakingly beautiful!
Hi Mary, I too can read your bog on the email with no ads but have to go to read on blog to comment, plus
X the ads. Yes, Caitlyn had a good game. The third quarter, as you said was iffy for the team, but they came back in the 4th. I agree with Becky that Caitlyn is not greedy. Fun to watch. Hope you are feeling better. Take care of yourself. Like your blog and look forward to it.
I can read your blog on the email. Hope you are feeling better soon. Thank you for sharing.
Karen
Comments from Theresa regarding the flowers and cake didn’t come up for me. Maybe it was me. On my computer, I have to hit ‘read the blog’ to get to comments etc. No big deal and I’m used to it. Love all the comments today like always.
I just replied please look up near the top for comments
Did you name Tim the cat after your neighbor
Dee – I don’t remember but get this. I started calling him TimTom as well and Tim does have a younger brother named Tom. I have no idea what I was thinking.
Hi Mary. I too can read in email but have to go to the blog to see or add comments. I used to be able to do it all through email. No doubt some kind of update to fix one issue but causes other issues.
I enjoy your blog and read it daily. Wishing you good health and a blessed day today.
Gayle – this is just what I thought! WordPress and updates are very annoying!
I read on my email then click on “Read on Blog” to see comments or make a comment.
Baseball and football to watch today so I’m a happy camper!!
Everything is clear, findable, readable, etc on my iPad ……it is from your blog, however, since I’ve avoided signing up for any more email notifications. If I want to read your wonderful blog about nothing, all I need to do is click….it’s all there. Thank you….
I can read on my phone but need to go to the blog to be able to comment. I love this blog! I visited your ship quite a few times and have items I made from some of the kits I purchased. Great memories for sure. I do enjoy your blog. So many “country” things and memories. Prayers daily for your health.
I can read on email but have to read on blog to comment.
Elaine – thanks for those prayers – I feel completely normal at this point.
Thanks for sharing the picture of my chair. I wanted the flame print that’s on the bottom front to go on the seat, but hadn’t bought enough!….. like when making a quilt and you run out…… you ‘make do’ and pick another! I love my new chair!
Mary Ellen – and you don’t have to compete with a cat to sit in it!!!
I can read the blog on my email and also comment!
You received some very interesting cards. I love all of them! I laughed about the ‘chicken mom’.
Poor kitty. I hope you can get him back into the bard to catch mice.
I love the chairs. I have my grandpas chair. He had a stroke in his fifties and it was his favorite chair. I never knew him as he died before I was born.
The sewing rooms are all interesting and unique with their own personality.
We received some rain Thursday am early and every morning the dew is so heavy it’s like a fresh sprinkle! I too wonder about an early frost. The sedums are getting some pink color. But maybe they always do in August. I love to watch the monarchs feed on them.
Have a good weekend.
Joy – and your card was one of those you made yourself! I got several like that and look at them with awe. Got a great one yesterday – I just have to take some pictures to share.
I read the blog in email and then come to the blog to read comments. Occasionally I comment. You are one of 4 blogs I read daily. It has become my favorite. If it makes a difference I use an IPad. I really enjoy your readers photos.
Same for me Susanne although I use a MAC laptop. I have the BLOG bookmarked so it’s easy to get too.
I read and comment on the blog on my laptop. I was happy to see my card got to you in one piece. Thanks for all the pictures. I’m glad to see others have stuff in their sewing rooms. Rainy morning here. Hope you have a good day.
I read in my email, click on “read in blog” to read or leave comments. Love the flowers. I like Teresa’s “L” shaped working area in her sewing room.
Thank you Vicki. My space has evolved over the years and when I added my Juki sewing machine I made the room into this “L” shape. I still use my Janome and I was tired of pulling it off the floor into a table and then back to the floor. I find it is so easy to sew my binding on so it comes out even in both the back and front. The machine in the middle that has fabric covering the front is a sweet 16 sit down mid arm and now that I have these tables all around it makes it easier to quilt larger quilts. The sweet 16 is waiting for me to make a cover for it instead of the clear garbage bag and a chunk of fabric thrown over it.
I can read the blog post on the email sent to me. Then clicked on the heading to get to the blog to make a comment.
Loved all the photos today. thanks for sharing.
I read in my email but have to return to the top to click on the blog to read or leave a comment. I love the reupholstered chair! I was also looking for the explanation about the flowers and cake??
Yesterday I attended a quilt show in Dolores,CO put on by their guild..I never expected to see so many beautiful quilts and so much talent come out of such a small, remote area. So glad I took the hour drive to get there. Again , I found patterns from Country Threads of which I sent pictures to Mary. Seems no matter where I travel, I can find one. The last place was in the museum at Missouri Star last April.
So glad you are still blogging even if I can’t get to read it every day!
I can read your message and see the pictures in the email but have to go to the blog to comment.
BTW, love the pictures and I’m glad the kitty Tim is back. I hope he stays in the barn.
I can read it on email but I too have to go online to make comments and read ads. Sometime the comment section is on the email, but not often.
Thank you again ladies for all the cards and comments re my husbands passing. I am getting cards everyday and they are such a blessing. Thank you Mary for asking for cards. Glad you like all the cards you are getting too!
I read on my email.
Love all the pictures today! I can read it in e-mail but go to the blog to comment and click ads.
Glad you removed the BIG branch. Have a good weekend everyone.
I can read it on email but to comment or click on the ads have to go on your blog. What a handsome boy Tim is, I hope he stays to help you control the critter population! Also did not see a comment explaining about the flowers! Your Pee Gee hydrangea is beautiful!
I am with the others about reading email and go to read the blog. Lots of ads there. Easy peasy!
Love the picture of Skippy. Recreates the Andrew Wyeth picture “Master Bedroom” hanging above.
Fun to see so many sewing rooms!
When my grandson was little and I put him to bed, he asked if the dog in the picture was Skippy. The next time I put him to bed, he asked “Are you sure it isn’t Skippy?” I told him I had the bed for a long time. When I bought the picture, I bought a chenille bedspread to match the picture. Skippy joined our family later.
A couple of summers ago, I put notes on items so my kids would know where I wanted the items to go when I was “done” with them. I put this picture of Skippy on the back of the painting along with the story about my grandson being sure the dog in the painting was Skippy and a note I wanted my grandson to have the painting.
Sheryl – I just love your story about Skippy and your grandson! He will,be thrilled to be the owner!
Sheryl, I have that Andrew Wyeth print also. It has hung in our bedroom for many years and is one of my favorite possessions. There is just something so special about it. I get such a warm feeling every time I walk past it. It reminds me of beloved pets we have had in the past. I bought it at a yard sale.
The print is one of my favorite possessions also. I decorated the bedroom in neutrals and old things…like my grandfather’s wicker rocker and a dresser that matches the bed. The bedroom reminds me of my great aunt’s home, stuck in the 30’s and 40’s. I love it!
Sheryl – and now when I see that print I’ll think of Skippy.
I can read your blog but couldn’t comment or read comments until I saw “read on the blog” at the top of the page. Happiness rstored!
I am an old reader since the Goat Gazette stopped and I can’t comment from the email but can go to blog and blab away.
Love fish and chips and if you found good ones you are blessed enjoy them for us Charlie too far away.
I read your posts on the email and if I comment I just hit the button at that top right to read on blog and comment. No problem here. Wonderful pictures again today
I read in the email- print seems to be bigger and easier to read on my phone . But go to blog so I can click on ads or read content.
I can read your post through email, but cannot comment. I can only comment by going onto the blog (I actually just click on the title of the piece and it takes me there). Unfortunately, I don’t get the ads anymore anywhere. My son installed an ad blocker for me thinking he was helping me. He doesn’t know I want to click on those ads for you! I’ll have to talk to him about fixing that.
I read the blog on email and click on the title for the comments to appear. Same as always except the newest comments appear on the top instead of the bottom of the comment list now.
I can read the email but have to click onto the blog to comment. I always just click on the title header and read on the actual post so I can read or make a comment. I have followed other bloggers on WordPress and have done it this way for years.
Loved Mary Ellen’s chair.
I read your emails on my computer. Look forward to seeing your daily postings.
I can read your blog from my email & I get all the comments & ads that way too on my “smart” phone!
Love the chair & the sign.
Joyce – so you’re in the minority and I wonder why. Has it changed for you in the past couple months? Nobody else gets the comments on the email. Can you reply from that same email?
I can read either on email or blog. If I want to read or leave a comment, it has to be on the blog.
I, also, did not see anything about the flowers and cake.
Yes, very good thing you got that limb taken down. That could have been disastrous if it came down by itself.
Read on email need to go to blog for comments
I use my Kindle to read the email. The text gets smaller when I hit “read on the blog” because of the right hand border with your picture and address.
Millie sure loved her chair.
Love Mary Ellen’s chair, too.
Teresa’s quilt room looks cozy. Love the hanging lamp over her sewing machine.
Reading Kris’s comments about her friends collection. I used to collect buttons. What is someone, my daughters, going to think about that! I tried to replace a zipper in an older cost and the pieces of the cost that came undone challenged me and I have up!! Zippers challenge me in general and in my younger days I used to see clothes for fun. No more!
Mary, you were lucky to find someone to take the limb off your roof. That tree out back is huge! Wouldn’t want that to come down.
Poor Tim. Maybe he’ll come back to the barn. I take it he is a feral cat and won t come to you. Must be mice in the wood shed.I
I love the collection of cards. Once again your readers amaze me.
Take care. Glad your Fevers won the basketball game.
Hello! Longtime reader/email subscriber chiming in. Like most everyone, it seems, I can read the blog on my email, but I hop on over to the blog in order to read the comments, even on days when I don’t leave a comment of my own. (Sometimes I spend so much time reading comments that I don’t have time left to write!) I loved seeing your cards–people are so creative, aren’t they? I’m not surprised, just impressed.
I’m very touched, reading about Kris in WI who is cleaning out the quilting stash of a friend who passed, and is not only organizing the left-behind fabric but is finishing incomplete projects and sending them on to their intended recipients, such as the grandchildren of her deceased friend. What a loving thing to do. It also makes me think that perhaps I should leave little notes attached to my WIPs–even if my partner merely mails them off to my various quilty friends in their sad, unfinished state, he would only know whose is whose with a hint from me (in advance), as I don’t have a “Kris” nearby–I wish I did, as she sounds like a gem.
Yes I can read the blog on my iPhone email but have to click on “Read on Blog” to read the comments.
Gaylen thinks we are going to have an early fall – the leaves on our maple trees are already turning. That’s okay with me – I’m tired of pulling weeds every day. To be honest, I’m a Fall/Winter gal. Cuddle up with a book and a hot apple cider, soups, and sewing all day in your pajamas while a snowstorm is raging outside your windows.
It’s been fun looking at everyone’s sewing rooms. They all have one thing in common though – beautiful quilts are made there no matter what kind of sewing room you have.
Today is Artafest in CC. Midwest artists displaying their creations. Should be a fun day. Have a great weekend wherever you are.
Gloria – what I’m trying to figure out is if this has changed with this last update. Has it always been this way? I thought you could read comments and reply through the initial email but since I don’t see what you see, I can’t ever be sure. I think we’ll have an early fall, too, because we haven’t even had a summer! This morning it’s so thickly overcast that the day I’ll be long. Still haven’t mowed – sooooo wet!!
I’ll show you on my phone the next time I see you.
Hi Mary, l read the blog ,then l can read comments, occasionally there is no space to leave a reply, but l can read comments others have made. Tim the cat is cute, l hope he finds his happy place in the barn. I have been having fun Making bears paw blocks from scraps , takes more time, but l enjoy the process. Didn’t see anything about the flowers and cake photos in the comments, was it a wedding? Glad you have a cleaning lady doing a wonderful job! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
I too go to the blog to read comments, but it is what it is!
I was in a thrift shop yesterday that is going to move soon..the first place I went to was craft section and low and behold a pattern from Country Threads called “NO ORDI NARY CATS”. It is so cute and I have many friends that love cats. Was wondering if anyone on this blog has made it?
Thanks for keeping the blog about nothing going Mary..we all appreciate it!
Sharon – oh my, that’s an oldie but goodie! Very simplistic cats but I might even enjoy making some of those cats again.
I can read the blog on my email but I always click on read the blog. That way I can read the comments and also comment.
All the pictures are great today.
HI, Mary
I get the email, but click through to the blog to actually read it. Big type print that way for me.
I can read email but have to go to “read blog” to post comments. Thanks for picture of Hank. He finally grew into his feet! He’s a handsome boy.
I get the notifications in my email, but I’m old school. I’m in the habit of reading the blog on the laptop. Easy to click the ads, too. Oh, yes…I love the patchwork chair idea and the wooden “spools” on yours.
My quilting friend passed away 3 months ago, and the family has asked me to sort and donate her fabric/quilting collection. It’s a happy/sad job. Larger pieces will go to the quilters at church. That’s easy. I remember a lot of the scraps from quilts she made, and I bound for her. I’ve found new fabrics destined for great grandbaby quilts she didn’t get to make. I’ll put those together and send them out. I bound a finished quilt and that went to one of her sons and I’ll make a scrap quilt for one of her very oldest friends. Every once in a while, I get to laugh. A whole bin of old zippers taken from outworn clothes…really?! And in a box of buttons a brand-new garter belt stocking fastener with elastic, along with darning wool and dusty bias tape! No tomato pincushions yet, but a black and white strawberry one with rusted pins. Oh, we really are funny people sometimes, aren’t we. I don’t even want to think about what people will say about my stash and treasures!
Prayers continue. Kris
The chair is so cute. Tim looks like he’s ruler of the barn in that photo. I use to be able to read and comment through the email ( like this past winter and early spring). Now I can read you post in the email (can’t get to the comments there) and then go to “read blog” to read the comments and comment myself. Like Sheryl, I used to get follow-up comments to my comment if I marked the notification box after my name and email. Now if I mark that, I don’t get any follow-up comments. To see those I go to your blog and find my original comment and can see any replies.
Martha – exactly as I suspected! WordPress did this to us and I hate that they changed it but I am powerless to get us back to the way it used to be. Dang. How’s your mom? Where is she right now? I will send her a card. I’ll bet she is unhappy as I would be.
I can read it from the email and if I want to see comments, I click on your blog title to get to your page.
I enjoy the blog about nothing! Wishing you well in your health journey.
I can read your blog on email but have to go online to comment. I love seeing the sewing rooms!
Thanks for the heads up on the game tonight. The Fever rally started out gangbusters and Caitlin really looked like she was calling the plays in that first quarter. They finished the game well.
I do have trouble keeping up to date on your animals-cats especially. Anyway Tim looks like a handsome guy.
Fish and chips sound good. I hope the food truck hangs out nearby.
Whenever you send out your blog it always comes as an email. Then I click on the blog and read. I’m not sure what other way people would get it.
Not too much exciting here except there’s been a young black bear circling the neighborhood in the past few weeks. One of our quilters spotted it yesterday morning in her backyard which is fenced going after her birdseed from a feeder. She also has honey beehives and was surprised it didn’t go after those. I’ll assume the best excited the same way he entered. Yikes! We have had black bears roaming in the past and they do go after the birdseed and they’re not nice about it. They usually destroy the feeders beyond repair or reuse.
Have a happy weekend and continued prayers.

Patricia – living in the Midwest I can’t imagine confronting a bear in my yard! Will a bear kill a cat? Dog? No animals in my yard because of my fencing which is sometimes too bad as I used to see deer. Yes, The Fever got their act together again to win. They play again on Sunday on ABC at 2:30 (I think that’s central time). I have so missed these games especially since I had a bad case of Olympics withdrawal.
I can read the blog on my email. I click on the title to go to the blog to comment.
I love Mary Ellen’s chair! I read the blog in my email on my phone, but I have to go to the blog in order to click on ads or comment. The Off the Hook food truck comes through my town in NW Nevada about once a month…..good fish and chips!
Signe – really? They come clear out there from the Midwest? Wonder if they travel with a sleeping trailer, too. Where is their “home”? I’ll always stop if I see their truck.
i can read the blog on my email. cannot see comments there or click on ads. so i always go online to read. used to just click on the title of the post, but now i click on ‘read on blog’. i like getting to hear from other readers and get ideas of what they are doing,
liked seeing the pictures of your house and the trees around it. do you use double pane windows in iowa to help keep out the cold? my dad put then in the house he built in texas and they really helped keep out the weather noises also.
all the flowers are lovely. will come back tomorrow to see what teresa has to say. was wondering what she is drying in all the brown bags.
i feel badly about tim. how sad that he has been out and afraid for a while. how do you re-introduce him to the dogs to make him comfortable again. the pictures of the cards are great.
stay well and keep stitching. patti in florida
Patti, I forgot about the brown bags. I am drying lavender. This year I got way more lavender than ever before. I usually cut about 2/3 of the flowers leaving the rest for the bees. On one of my plants I did that it grew more flowers so I cut about 3/4 of the flowers and it’s just sent up another growth of flowers which I will cut again. My other plant just behaved as normal the big flowering followed by another flowering but only about 1/3 as much as the original flowering. I use the lavender in a lemon lavender shortbread, I have a few dried bouquets in vases in my house, I make lavender simple syrup and add that to either lemon juice or club soda and put some lavender in my morning smoothie.
thanks for the answer, teresa. i kinda thought that was it but i figure no question is stupid, so i just ask questions, only way to learn, in my opinion. not sure i knew you could use it in drinks. amazing what we learn on this blog. thanks again. patti in florida
Yes, I read the post in the email. Done it this way for over 10 years.
So glad you have help in the house and that you’re feeling better so you can ride the mower, etc.
Have really enjoyed seeing others sewing rooms. I can read the blog via email-have to go to the blog to post a comment.
Same here.
Mary Ellen’s chair is so cute! I am able to read your blog in the email. If I want to comment I go to the blog. Works for me!
I can read the blog on my email. I always click the “notify me of new posts by email” but haven’t received follow-up emails since you were having trouble with commenting through emails.
The chair with the bird fabric is beautiful!
I can read the blog post via email but no ads to tap. If I open the email into a browser all the ads are there. So I go with the ads! Flowers are stunning! It was 100 degrees today 🙁
On my iPad I can read it on email, but must go to blog to read or make a comment.
me too… and i enjoy the daily post immensely!!!
I can read the blog on my email, but to comment I have to click the link to the blog.
