My Next Birthday Girl, 5-22-25

Deb Oscarson tells me her Aunt June will be 94 years old on June 1. Let’s all send her a birthday card and overwhelm her with good wishes.

June still lives on her own in her house for the last 54 years. She is spry and loves serving coffee often to anyone who stops by. She loves to embroider, do word find puzzles and card games. She is known for making bars and desserts. She is not a quilter but appreciates the work and time involved in the making of them. She worked as a high school cook for years.

She is a favorite person of mine. Her 94th birthday is June 1st, 2025.

Card showers are a little bit of kindness shown by many which amounts to a huge blessing to the recipient. I hope you’ll find any kind of card and a stamp and send birthday greetings to June. I hope when I’m 94 I’m still here on my farm and somebody mails me a birthday card.

Rhubarb Jam

7 c. Rhubarb cut up small

1/2 c. Water

Cook on stovetop till hot.

Add:

4 c. Sugar – I’m going to cut the sugar down next time for more tartness and less sweet

1 can pie filling – apricot, blueberry or strawberry

Boil for 15 minutes, stirring constantly.

Add:

2 – 3 oz. Boxes raspberry jello and stir till dissolved.

Put in sterilized jars or freeze.

Will get my card in the mail in the morning. I hope June has a marvelous birthday and enjoys getting her mail from everyone. She sounds spunky. We are finally getting a few days of sunshine and summertime weather. Will have to mow our lawn this week sometime. Made a quick trip to Iowa to place flowers on family sites in Floyd, Osage and St Ansgar for the Memorial weekend.

I have a card ready for June for in the morning. Thanks for the recipe, I have never tasted rhubarb so will try to find some.
Sending you a picture of the batik rug I finished and washed and the packet of Indian corn we planted, so pretty. We got up to 92 today 😳 🥵!
Hugs to all your fur babies and Hank! Pam is so pretty 🤩

Thank you for the rhubarb jam recipe!!! I have a small patch of rhubarb. I prefer less sugar, too, to get more of the tart flavor.

Happy birthday to June. Her card is on the way! Thank you for alerting us to folks who would appreciate a card.
Do you have a picture of that quilt for which you are searching a pattern? It sounds beautiful!

Erin – I posted the quilt a week
Or so ago when I hung it at the care center.

It’s an honor to send a card to someone who appreciates the value of living in your home and caring for your self with activities. We all age differently and kudos to those who can keep on moving each day.
Love seeing Hank enjoying his adopted family on the farm.
It’s raining again but I know some farm markets have rhubarb for sale so I’m going to go looking and make your jam for the freezer. Thanks for the recipe.

Kathy – oh, I have so much rhubarb! If only I could share with you!

I am going to send June a card, I hope she gets a lot of cards to celebrate 94 years! Just think of everything she has witnessed and the history she could share.

I love seeing Hank and Keeper together and Hank exploring where he feels like home. Goldens simply melt my heart and Keeper and Hazel are right up there with my Nelson and sometimes Sammie! Sammmie was a wild woman when I picked her up at the spa yesterday and when she saw a little black squirrel beside the driveway when we got home she went balastic. Unfortunately my car is push button on/off and gears so by the time she was done my car was in reverse with the windshield wipers going and then the motor was turned off.

No rain in Saginaw today! But I need to call mosquito control for all the standing water in the woods before they hatch and I am carried away. They love to see chubby, juicy me walk out the door – free meal! It’s sunny this morning but only 36 at the farm!

Linda – our cold weather moved on to you …. And I’m glad! I want to go back to my porch sitting. We’re only getting to mid 50’s today however so not warm enough for the porch yet.
Hank is definitely at home here but acts like the “only” dog that he is. Jealous of Keeper and pushes himself ahead any chance he gets. Has to be in front when I walk and run ahead and then turn around so quick I almost fall. I’ll be glad to get back to just “us”. I also have to keep all gates to pond area closed which means Keeper can’t run to the pasture at night. Keeper is sick of him –

The rhubarb jelly looks so good and now that I know it can be frozen vs canned, I’m going to jot it down and try it sometime.
Hank is sure studying the cat-as if he’s waiting for it to make a move so they can play together. Happy Birthday to June. She’ll be the same age as my mother-in-law.

Cindy – would you like to have her be a card recipient? When’s her birthday?

Happy birthday to June on June 1st! My dad’s birthday is also June 1st, and he will be 91 this coming birthday. We’re so excited for him! He has owned his own business for the last 65 years and still drives himself to work every day. Retirement is not a word in his vocabulary. He’s lived on his own for the last eight years since mom passed. He’s very active in the community and in his church. My five brothers and I just wish to emulate half the go-getter attitude dad has lived our whole lives. Reading about June and knowing my dad makes me think that generation has a mindset like no other. Happy birthday again, young lady!
