Not Much News, 10-21-20

Fall temps have taken hold of our days and leaves need to be gathered up, yard decorations need to be put away, and the porch needs to be closed up for the year. We even had snowflakes the other day – two hours south of us actually got 7-9″ of snow – in mid October! The snow squall even made the CBS evening news!

Me, you ask? What am I doing? Cleaning up after 8 puppies! They will return to the shelter this Saturday and I will get my life back. The area rugs will go to the burn pile and I’ll need to use the power washer to clean the floors. Here are a few pictures of the little darlings.

I shopped at the thrift store for stuffed toys.

Almost looks like one very long spotted puppy, doesn’t it?

The shop is an absolute mess after they tipped a pot off the table. Puppies – 1. Houseplant -0.

Since they’re leaving in a couple of days and the rug is going to the burn pile, I guess I’ll just let them play in the dirt which is what they’re doing and having a great time, I might add. They are very busy puppies. I have lost total control. What a learning curve I’ve been on for almost 5 weeks. Cleanup is what I’ll be doing Sunday afternoon!

I’ve been working on the red and pink project in bits and starts while keeping the puppies company in the next room. Remember Little Black Hen? I took these down today – trials and errors – haha!

Wild, huh?

Dirty Dozen finishes:

That’s all I got, Gals! Who’s watching the World Series? I am!!!

I so hope you can get those adorable puppies lined up somehow and get a photo of them all at the same time!! You will always remember having them there, caring for, teaching and loving them. You should then enlarge and frame the picture — a testament to your huge warm heart. Bless you!

You bet I’m watching! Baseball is my favorite sport. This year I have no skin in the game and being on the East coast means I don’t have to stay up to see the end. It gets so late here!

  3. Gloria B.

Mary, those pups had a tremendous start thanks to your love, care and patience. Thank you for being willing to shoulder that responsibility. You are a modern day St. Francis.

Did you notice the little black dog is peeing on the floor as you took the picture? Perfect timing. Did Nala get spayed? Did you have to pay for that? I’d say the shelter projects expect a LOT from their volunteers. I’m all set to stay inside tomorrow, maybe fill the bird feeders. I delivered Frank’s winter coats to the Boy’s Club Thrift Store this morning and they took them right in to get ready to sell. That makes about 4 large piles out of my house. I have a London Fog trench coat that is brand new, but it went out of style with Columbo. It is going to go to the costume shop for the Play House. When they open….
Take care and have a good day. At least after Saturday you can get a rest.

Betty K – I’m not surprised one was peeing – one is always peeing and pooping, I think! No, I did not have to pay for Nala’s vet work – her adoption fee covers all that. The shelter would normally provide all the food BUT my friends at the blog sent so much I delivered a lot of it back to the shelter when Nala went. It will go to good use for all the dogs there and I am so grateful to everyone. The puppies eat dry puppy food and I’m not making soft food for them anymore – not even wetting the puppy chow. They’ve come a long way, haven’t they?
Doesn’t it feel good to move out some stuff???? I’m taking a bunch of stuff to Junkin Gal tomorrow.

Hi Mary! Those puppies are simply adorable. Thank you for fostering them for a few weeks. You’re an 😇 for doing so!

  6. Diane and Squeak in Central Ohio

Puppy chaos! What memories you’ll have. Do they miss Mama? You have done an awesome job, Mary. Whew!
I only like baseball if I’m at the ball field eating a hotdog with sauerkraut and drinking a beer!
We had a beautiful day here and it will be warm Thursday and Friday, too. The Buckeyes finally play on Sat:).

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Diane and Squeak – I don’t think they even realize when Nala left – that’s when I got them all those stuffed toys so they could be very busy and be distracted and they were!

One puppy is tons of work…! I can’t imagine 8 and the mom. You’ll need to learn to say no… lol. Tell them you’ll do senior dogs 😊. You’ve done an awesome job and they got the best start to their lives that they could Ever have! I’m working on transitioning my fabric stash & sewing back home after spending the last 6 months at our lake cabin distancing. It was a good quiet summer… one I’ll never forget. So nice to slow down and appreciate the small things in life and our many blessings….

Oh my those puppies are so cute! But I can imagine the mess they can make. Your poor plant!
We are moving the rest of the plants tomorrow as this weekend the temps are supposed to drop. The heaviest pots need to be moved by my husband. He’s been busy with laying a flagstone walkway but is taking tomorrow to move plants and mow the yard. I don’t know what he’ll do to stay busy once it’s cold and wet.
Hubby is watching the World Series but I don’t care for baseball very much. We did watch the Stanley cup playoffs as our team the Dallas Stars were in it. Two games away from the Stanley cup is pretty good for a weird covid year!

  9. the other Angie

Mary!! I just cannot stop laughing about the mess those sweet little pups have made! You are just the best!! What a lot of love you have given them. You have prepared them well to go to their new homes. I know you will miss every one of them, but it will be good to have a little down time. Enjoy the moments! It is so crazy – thinking about you having snow close by … we are down South with the air conditioner still going!

  10. Carla

Every puppy is adorable, but there is something about those spotted ones that grab at me. I wonder what mix they are. My dog is 12 which is good for a Great Dane/Chocolate Lab mix. He’s tall, but getting so thin. I know we will always have dogs, but I feel it’s getting harder each time having to say goodbye. You do an important thing and send kindness into a world with too much meaness. Thank you.

  11. Jo in Wyoming

What entertainment those puppies have brought. I hope Nala is doing well. I too, hope you can get one last group picture. Good luck.
You will miss the porch sitting.
If we could get some snow, it would help with the fires.

    1. Betty Klosterman

Jo in Wyoming and Diane in Colorado, are you getting snow/rain today or is it going north of you? There hasn’t been very much about your fires, just California on the news.
Diane, what has happened with the big fire near you? We are wondering what is happening in your areas.

Love the speckled pups and love your speckled black hen! Makes me think of Dominique hens-my favorite! That brown puppy looking at the camera looks like it has blue eyes.

  13. Jeanie S, Central Illinois

You gave Nala and her puppies much needed love and care. You have prepared them well for the next phase of their lives. You are so kind; great job, Mary! 🥰

  14. Betty from Canada

    Hi from Canada:
You are doing such a good job with those puppies. I hate to think what would have happened if you hadn’t taken them in.

  15. Charlotte Shira

The puppies are still so adorable but I can’t imagine having 8 puppies to care for. I really like the speckled ones too! You are an angel to care for them. I love your hens and the DDs. Sorry the cold weather is coming so soon.

  16. Charlotte Shira

And yes I’m watching the World Series. Tonight’s game was really good. Go Rays! I live in Giants country so we really don’t like the Dodgers! I’m really an A’s fan. I love watching the WS even though I don’t watch much baseball during the year. College football is the best sport.
Go Buckeyes! My husband loved Ohio State football.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Charlotte – I’m going to watch Ohio State on Saturday – it will be a great football Saturday! I also don’t watch baseball until the WS – it’s such a great fall tradition!

  17. Jean

Mary. Just THANK YOU for what you have done for nala and the pups. It makes me feel hopeful that there are still good, kind people out there that are willing to help. You are a blessing to many.

  18. Betty

You are a Saint. Your care for these puppies has been very hard for you,I am sure. I can’t wait every day ,for pictures. Wish I had a house and big back yard . I’d come and get me two puppies and name them Timex, and Rolex. As they are watch dogs.

    1. Wanda D.

A friend took in a pregnant mama dog and named her Xerox because she was reproducing.

  19. Marj in Western Wisconsin

Mary, you certainly have done an awesome job with Nala and the puppies. You need a break tho once they are gone. It sure cuts into sewing time having so many to care for. We had 16 degrees yesterday to start the day along with 7″ of snow. Most of it is gone this morning, because the temp got up to 37. Winter is coming fast. Sure hope we get some type of Indian Summer. Everyone stay safe, healthy, and remember to vote.

  20. Paula S.

Those pups are cute but lots of work! I’m sure you will be glad to get your life back. And yes, we are watching the World Series at our house. Sports seem to be the only “normal” thing going on in the world right now and we are enjoying that.

  21. Connie R.

Thank you so much for the pictures of the puppies. Do you know if Nala is spoken for already? I sure hope she gets a wonderful home right away as well as the puppies. The puppies are going to miss each other. They seem to always be laying next to each other.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Connie R – there are potential adopters coming to meet her this weekend. Let’s hope one of them takes her home!

  22. Kathy Hanson

What a wonderful thing you have just done! You have made a huge difference in the life of Nala and her beautiful babies! I hope you can have some time, after this weekend to really relax. I still think of the little black puppy howling in the sleeping area when he was left alone … so cute! You are amazing! You need a big break!!! Now all the preparations for winter, glad you are enjoying the World Series! Put your feel up and enjoy!! 😊❤️❤️

  23. Margie Braaksma

Am I sending my finish to the wrong email? I’ve sent it twice but haven’t seen it yet

  24. Amy

Cute but boy they are busy and messy but I know you wouldn’t have changed a thing. I’m sure you will be anxious to get it cleaned up on Sunday, just don’t over do it and hurt yourself. Hopefully you can recruit some help.

  25. Deb B

World Series, YES. Cheering for Tampa Bay for no other reason than they beat Houston, who beat the Twins. I would have had a hard time deciding who to cheer for had Houston won. How about you?

  26. Linda in So Cal

Thanks for pics of the pups. Boy have they grown. You are to be congratulated for all your efforts. You should be very proud of your gang. Miss Nala. Love the blue eyes. Go Ohio State and Dodger Blue. Relax & enjoy the weekend & a beer or two!

  27. Jeanice Domino

Thank you for all that you did for that poor momma and her puppies. Such a wonderful act of love! God bless you for all that you do for animals!

  28. Mrs. Goodneedle

I completely understand your logic about leaving the cleaning until after they’re gone; I think that you’re right to wait, I would do the same thing. You have been such a blessing to these pups and Nala, they have received such a great start in life being in your hands and home. I pray that they’re adopted quickly, there are some lucky families out there who will be so happy to open their hearts and homes to these cuties!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Mrs. Goodneedle – they are all spoken for and deposits have been paid. There are potential adopters coming this weekend to meet Nala – I pray one will take her home! These puppies are so well socialized and nearly housetrained if their little door to the outside is open. Otherwise they have a couple favorite spots and I can hardly wait to clean in there.

  29. Pat Smith

It is such great news that the puppies are spoken for with deposits! I’m hoping Nala finds her permanent place soon. With all the commotion, I’ve hardly heard a word about Telly and Hazel. Maybe they will be breathing a sigh of relief too. What great work in helping this dog family develop into great dogs with a bright future!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Pat Smith – Hazel and Telly have their noses out of joint in the worst way! Moe Saturday they’ll get my full attention again. They’ll be glad to see those puppies leave! Haha!

  30. Beverly

Oh I almost forgot about Telly & Hazel too, haha, as I’ve been following the puppy (tails 😉). Such fun to read about them & even better knowing they all have homes. Sure hope Nala gets her forever home this weekend! Mary thank you for all your hard work with them & keeping us posted on their shenanigans!

  31. Dorothy

I am so in love with the spotted pair. Glad they are all spoken for. Hope the Mom finds her hoe too
