Your pictures are great! Thank you!!

And today I got this card from Kathy in NY and promptly put it in a frame!

It’s really very hot here and I did a bit of yard work but not much. I’ll try a little bit more tomorrow after church and then come into the AC to watch The Fever play Chicago at 2:00.
……………………

at our fair – guess whose entry – Hank’s Mom!!!!
…………
Every morning I get hit by the same bicycle. It’s a vicious cycle.
Good Night, Ladies!!

Such a fun blog today! Lovely plants and fairy gardens as well as quilts to look at. Very nice! Thanks to all who submitted. Stay cool everyone! It’s sweltering here.
I am one of the people who sent in a patriotic picture. All of the many items are using up scraps from Honor Flight Quilts, one Quilt of Valor for a friend’s husband and a table runner + placemats for my table. At least I made a dent in my patriotic material. Now it’s back to working on charity quilts.
Enjoyed the post. Thank you, Mary for your blog. Hot week ahead, so hibernating inside with my machine. 🙂

The little fairie houses are wonderful. My niece in St. Louis had built a swimming pool in their yard and her sister’s grandkids would come to swim. She had made her own fairie house beside a large tree in the yard. She added new stuff all the time for the kids. So cute.
The fairie houses at the fair were so cute. Imaginations are the very best. And all the flowers and no weeds….. I’ve got some flowers, but there are also weeds????? Also a couple of deer. So far they have been fun to watch and they haven’t eaten many of the flowers. I’ve suggested that they start on the neighbor’s lilacs, etc on my side of the fence, but no luck yet.
I don’t know exactly what it is that I watch, but they have been having a real variety of stuff like the Queens’ Guard Horses, the Texas flood reports and comments, rodeos, Indian Relay Races, Music, RAGBARI updates, shoeing a horse— just a lot of interesting things. It is very interesting to see how some people have absolutely NO animal sense. There are segments from M*A*S*H and skits from Carrol Burnett with Tim Conway and Harvey Korman. Everybody should watch them for a real belly laugh. Tim Conway is a genius and can make Harvey Korman laugh. This world really needs more laughter.
The motorcyclists are coming to the Sturgis Rally. My overactive imagination is always there and I wonder just how much so many of the vehicles, trailers, etc cost AND how much of it is PAID for??? A lot of the participants fly in and their cycles are trucked in. One year a whole bunch came into North Dakota by train and rode their bikes to Sturgis. They do have a lot of fun and it brings a lot of money to the area.
In the meantime, stay cool. This hot stuff can’t last forever. Betty in Rapid City
What an interesting blog post! The plant displays are wonderful….and those fairy gardens are lovely! Kudos to Hank’s mom! Sounds like you are quite the gardener. Would love to see more pictures of your flowers & displays! Today the owners of the lake house are coming to pick up their dog that we’ve been watching. These 2 pups will certainly miss each other. It’s been fun watching them play together! We return home on Tuesday & it’s been a wonderful vacation!
Wow, fantastic pics today. The fairy gardens are all so clever, and the little patriotic quilts are too cute. Especially like the Garden House card—so exquisite! And, the ‘don’t care’ card is perfect. Wish that those whose pictures are featured in your blog post would write a short description or caption about their pictures in the comments. Feels like there is a story behind every one, but we will never know what it is.
Sara – I, too, wish the reader would explain their pictures because I just can’t download all of it. Maybe if I gave each quilt picture a number everybody could find the quilt to match the comment. Any suggestions?
Giving each quilt picture a number is a great idea!
Sara, I will explain the 4 star blocks in patriotic fabrics. The pattern is called “Stars on Point” & the 4 blocks are part of 13 which will be a QOV quilt for a Marine friend of ours. I have all the block done, but has to be sewn together. It’s a Jelly roll quilt, but I used fat quarters + yardage. No 2 blocks are the same. The fabric is left over from my friend Ron’s Quilt of Valor Quilt. The backing will be Marine themed. Both men are Marines. The pattern is from Whistlepig Creek Prod. I believe it finishes @ 52 x 52.
Alice, thanks so much for all the information about the four star blocks—pretty on their own, but even more meaningful to know that you are making it as a QOV for a friend, using leftovers from another friend’s quilt!
We could have has a party line last night! lol
Hubby took his show car to a car show yesterday, so he left it out of the garage, then we took it for a spin. Went to Saylorville Lake to see how high the water was. Lake is not as high as I thought it would be, although a couple boat ramps are closed due to high water. I love that everything is so green and lush heading into August. The past few years, we were in the throes of a drought, so this is a pleasant change.
Went to church, now I’m home for the day. Starting a baby quilt today for a couple at church adopting a 12 month old from Bulgaria. Lots of waiting and red tape and challenges. The baby is a little person so more hoops to jump through to make sure the parents are good people and not adopting her for evil means. I pray for them daily. I understand the waiting is hard as we adopted our youngest from foster care.
already 88 degrees – heat index 100. Ugh!
Diana – I’d like to see his show car!
Way to go “Hanks Mom”, your entry in the flower show is just beautiful! I’d love to see where/how you display it at home.
Cathy D – I’ll have her take some pictures at home.
The gardens and flowers are so lovely. What a quilt show again. Thanks for the joke as we all can use a good laugh. Will be sure to watch the Fever game today. Last week I spent every morning weeding and got a very large flower bed done. Ten plus 5 gallon buckets full of weeds. For those who have had knee replacements, I use a five gallon bucket with a swivel seat from the hunter’s department at farm stores. I will try to take a picture of it. You also store the tools needed for weeding in it. I use an empty cat litter bucket to store my tools that I use. Always more to do but the next few days Iowa is in a heat advisory again. Will spend the days indoors. Working on piecing a backing for a quilt top. Using up the four patch blocks that are made and fabric from a homespun dress that I took apart. One more seam and I will have it done.
Rita – I even have a bench/kneeler but I guess I just started without thinking about it. I’m not going to work outside today – I won’t be slacking tho as I’m canning hot dog relish!
You are right, the pictures were perfect. I loved the fairy gardens. So cute. So we’re all of the planting. Hank’s mom should have won a ribbon at the fair. It and others were beautiful!
I’m loving all the pictures! We finally got some rain overnight, I haven’t mowed in over a week, too dry still very humid & going to be in the 90’s first half of next week, I’ll be inside!
The jokes make me smile every morning!!
Lots of interesting pictures and love that your readers are engaged in entertaining us with them. I did a fairy garden in a bird bath years ago and might have to do that again next summer with these cute ideas. Congratulations to Hanks Mom for her winning display. It’s cute.
Mary, I just want you to know that everyday I look forward to your blog, and usually a good laugh! Love your jokes AND the card today is PERFECT for all of us!
All the quilting projects are such an inspiration. Foggy morning here.
Like they say on the talk shows–“I’m a FIRST TIME commenter”…. I’ve been saving photos from your blog for ??? years. And want to make your 2013 Block of the Month one day (too many grandchildren and family events keep bumping it down the queue). So many quilt dreams, so little time…
THANKS to the reader who sent in the fairy garden pictures–they went straight to my Pinterest. My 4 granddaughters who visit daily are REALLY into them; what great ideas!
Ruth – well, I’m so glad you left a comment after all these years – yay!! I don’t even remember what the 2013 BOM was and your granddaughters ought to have plenty of inspiration for awhile!
All the plants look so healthy and cared for and beautiful. For sure they aren’t in my yard. The cards sure are fun. Good idea to frame them. Someone sure has a lot of red, white, and blue fabric. For some reason stores in my area don’t stock much of that. Maybe they think it is too seasonal. Suzanne, when I can’t sleep, I try reading for a time or I take Tylenol PM. That seems to really help. Mary, don’t overdue it outside today, there is heat warnings all over the place. I’m just going to water what’s needed and stay inside. Have a good day everyone.
Hi Mary, l always fancied a fairy garden, but never got round to it! Not very green fingered! Will stick to quilting l think! Have had some beautiful winter days, sunny ,no wind, no rain! My daughter in law, s family from Taiwan were very impressed, they hired a camper van and toured the north island. The last night here we had fish and chips take away meal and they used chopsticks! We use our fingers and call it a kiwi roast! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – oh, I’d love to see pictures of Stella and Luna!! It always shocks me to realize you’re in winter right now while we’re suffering in the heat and humidity. I’d starve to death if I depended on chopsticks to feed myself!
The little gardens! I love them.
Thanks for the chuckle at the end.
I’m up at 2:30 a.m. cannot get to sleep.
Suzanne – too bad we didn’t chat at 2:30 am becuse I was awake, too!!!!
