It was a great day yesterday to sit on the porch and read and nap. Someone asked what I was reading. I have never been a Stephen King fan but I did buy his new book “The Outsider”. Connie just finished listening to it and I am really hooked on the story. I hope it doesn’t turn weird.
I was reading “Esther” and it was ok but it was moving pretty slow – I don’t know if I’ll return to it or not.
Did you see there’s going to be a “Beartown” sequel?
Have to show you this Hoya plant that is blooming profusely.
I had some special visitors last week – Reece and Caitlin Hill and their new baby Brynn. When Reece was in high school he helped me in the barn and we’ve remained friends.
Reece has that swaying jiggle down pat for Brynn – he almost put Hazel to sleep.
Remember the pink and green log cabin baby quilt I made last winter? It was for Brynn.
A reader asked what I do with older quilt books. Since I’ve got so much room to store things, I’ve never gotten rid of any but I really should. Does anyone have a good solution?
And here’s the handsome Charlie who belongs to my friend Carol. Simply a beautiful cat, isn’t he?
And here’s your weekly peak at Tim’s corn across the road.
And a close up – 12-1/2″ tall already and it’s only been out of the ground one week! I’m going to measure it every Saturday.
And tomorrow is the first Sunday of early summer church – I’d better not oversleep!
Thanks for posting such wonderful photos of terrific things like books and babies, quilts and dogs and cats and corn. I’ve got the “too many quilt books I don’t use” problem here, so I’m donating them to sales and adding them to the free table at the quilt group. One person’s “trash” can be another person’s treasure.
Cheers,
Sylvia@Treadlestitches
Three of us who sew together gave our quilt books to our friend who reads and she took them to a used book store. The book store gave our friend credit to purchase books in the future.
I love the long thin leaves and the lovely pink blossoms on your Hoya. I have had mine since about 1973 when I received the cuttings from a friend. Unfortunately it hasn’t bloomed lately. My leaves are wider and the blossoms white. Will have to look up how to encourage blooming.
Nancy – Hoyas like to be pot bound in order to bloom.
I belong to the Black Hills Quilt Guild and am active in the Project Warmth group making quilts for charity. At our quilt show which is on right now, Project Warmth had a booth where we sell just about anything anybody wants to get rid of. One of the things we sell is individual patterns or books we don’t want for $1 for books and $.25 (?) for individual patterns. It is a nice way for us to clean house and other people can enjoy the stuff. The money we make goes for quilting thread, batting and backing fabric. Some things to sell are unfinished kits, small items we’ve made, or anything we would like to get rid of. I like to make pin cushions and they sell pretty good. I’m always on the lookout for neat fabric somebody just can’t live without. I’ve seen some ladies sit on the floor and carefully go thru each box of patterns.
This year we have more that 400 quilts and the show goes for 3 days and it always delightful to see old friends and explore thru the quilts.
Your comments … observations here have a peacefulness about them.. something calming,
like a Sunday drive in the country. Certainly needed these days. I find that quilting tends to have that effect also.
My daughter was in graduate school in the 80’s in Madison Wisconsin She LOVED Stephen King. She lived alone in her apartment. Started reading, I think, Pet Sementary. Scared her to death. She couldn’t finish it.
I’ve read bios about Stephen King and seen him interviewed and he seems to be a very nice man. Interesting about the books he writes. Scary.
Will be waiting to hear your comments on the stephen king book.
One of my former students spent his summers in Bangor, Maine next door to Steven King. When Mr. King found out my student wanted to be a writer, he took him under his wing and helped him! Wasn’t that nice?
Love seeing friends, babies, kitties, quilts, farm land, plants etc. I’m not sure which way you’re facing, but I think you could see to the Atlantic or Pacific. I’m not used to such wide open spaces.
I’ve donated my old quilt books to the Friends of the Library at out local library. The money from their sale is used to buy new books for the library. It’s a win win for us all.
Hi Mary,
I love the photo of Charlie, he looks just like my cat when I was a teenager, brings back lots of memories.
With respect to the books: our national quilt guild has a library of quilt books that members can borrow for free (just paying the postage costs). Many of the books are donated. Maybe there is a guild somewhere near you that has a similar program and would like your books?
I’ve been reading Stephen King books since Carrie first came out. Love him, haven’t read the Outsiders yet. Charles looks just like my Jim!
What is the beartown sequel?
