My friend Barbara has traveled to her home in Columbia, SC and her daughter works at Earth Fare, an organic food store, in Ashville. Barbara is hoping to distribute baby and child size quilts to those who have small children – those who are in need of almost everything but need something to keep their babies warm NOW – it’s an immediate need and the cleanup is happening as they try to rebuild their own lives. Just think of your baby or toddler needing a warm quilt and a small toy to keep little hands busy. Maybe a picture book?
So here are the directions from Barbara:
- Completed baby and child size quilts
- Include a name and address card on each quilt sent
- Perhaps send along a small stuffed toy, small pillow or a children’s book – optional
- Please – no quilting supplies at this time
Send to:

Thanks to any of you who are willing to help keep someone’s baby warm – the weather is turning chilly everywhere and a small quilt could be a huge help to moms in the flood zone and neighboring communities.
Please consider donating a small quilt or two along with the required tag on each with your name and mailing address and don’t forget your zip code.
If you want to take a picture of the quilts you’re sending, I’d love to show them here on the blog. Text or email to me for future posts.
This is a big commitment for Barbara who is hoping to help young moms keep their babies warm. Let’s help her help them!
THANK YOU!
I have the best blog readers and I know you’ll come thru for Barbara. I have several baby quilts I’m going to send her way. She has traveled from her home in New York and will help her daughters who live in the Ashville area. This donation effort is hers and hers alone – she is not affiliated with any charity or government agency. She has a kind heart as do all of you.
Thanks for your quilt donation.

Just ordered a bundle of fleece blankets through Amazon– free shipping straight to Barbara! No thanks needed, I just hope there is enough to go around (after all the donations are collected). Also, hoping steady progress is being made so that everyone has shelter, food, and encouragement while they are on the long road to recovery. Thanks to Barbara and Mary for the updates.
ATTENTION everyone: My zip code is 29212 !!!
Oh my gosh! I wrote this down wrong – I will post the correct zip tonight. Oh, good grief – and I thought I proofed this.
Barbara in NY, thank you for doing this and Mary for posting.
Thank you Angie in Baltimore and Jo in Wyoming for mentioning you ordered from Amazon and Kohl’s! That’s a great way to send reading/bedtime books and stuffed animals/toys.

I also sent an order to Barbara from Kohl’s with warm fleece blankets, some books and stuffed toys, just happy to help in a small way, no need for any recognition. Thank you Barbara for this very thoughtful way of helping these folks. Pat in Iowa City
Thank you Pat for doing this. They all had a very long road to travel to return to a normal life.
Yes! I want to donate a quilt as I have already done so for another person collecting. Problem is I do not have any baby quilts. Do you think she would accept something maybe a little larger? I will also send a stuffed toy along with the quilt if a little larger one will be accepted. Mary thank you for this wonderful plan!
Jean, I’ll take any size quilt and give it to an elderly person. There are many of those living up in Asheville/Hendersonville. Thank you in advance.
How much bigger?
Thank you Mary and everyone on this blog. My phone number is: 828-551-8412. Will keep everyone updated as I go along. I’m new at this but the bottom line is the children and giving them a little happiness in this unbelievable upset to their world. Mary has my email address if you need it or just call me for it. Again, thank all you wonderful quilters.
Thank you for doing this.
I just sent an Amazon order for them. I have been quilting for a time but I can use my Amazon account. I wish we knew Barbara’s email or phone number so we could alert her to the packages coming. There really isn’t a good way to tell them who I am except I am sending love and prayers. No recognition is needed.
Many of us feel so useless and unable to help in a meaningful way. This is a powerful positive outlet. And thank you for giving us the information. I am certainly going to get a box together as soon as possible.
We are a caring family group and I pray each day for these people who have lost so much.
When you think that a lot of these people grow their food which feeds through winter so if they were able to put up their gardens that food was lost. They don’t ask for help because they take care of their family but this is beyond what they can do. Their dignity has to be destroyed and it tears me apart. My family were existing farmers and I think of what this would have done to my Dad. I hope people that don’t have quilts to send can sent a book or two.
What a wonderful person with such a big heart. I hope lots of quilts are sent to her.
Mary, I just sent 5 blankets with Mickey Mouse stuffed toy from Kohls to Barbara. They will get there quicker than I could get them finished and sent. Kohls is a department store here.
The problem…they wanted her phone number incase of delivery issues, of course I don’t have it.
There wasn’t a way I could add my name to a card for them. She is welcome to put Friends from across the miles.
Barbara, bless you for doing this.
