Stormy Day, 4-17-25

Hail and heavy rain around noon and now it’s coming again – Hazel is terrified but I had to make Keeper come in.

Meet Barney!

I think the name fits him, don’t you! Thanks, Nan for the suggestion. Barney spent the day at the vet getting neutered and all his shots.

Tonight was Maundy Thursday service at church. Tomorrow is the Crosswalk – weather permitting.

Caycee and Pepe, Kathy’s dogs

Alice’s 9 patch quilt – such a pretty yellow!

Heavy rainfall and wind – signing off!

Barney has a sweet face. He knows a good home when he sees it! Sorry to hear about Heidi’s passing.
Sue, I’m so sorry for the mishap, but glad you were able to get attention for it.
I was able to finish some charity quilts during March Madness, plus one that had been waiting in the background a couple of years. Lots of beautiful quilts over the recent posts – always bringing inspiration!
    Happy Easter to all!

Barney is a great name. Wonder if you can get surgifoam? Might be a great thing to have on hand.

What a cute name for your new kitten! Love Barney! My son, daughter in law, & kids are coming for Easter dinner. I always do pulled pork & lots of favorite side dishes. Granddaughter always brings the deviled eggs. And as usual we take food next door for my 95 yr old neighbor. He does amazingly well for his age! Still cooks & drives, but loves when we share a few meals with him. He prefers to stay home rather than join us. My DIL’s mom might join us, depends. She’s in memory care now. The 9 patch quilt was a block exchange from 20 some friends years ago. We each made a certain # of blocks & exchanged them. Still one of my favorite quilts. I turned them on point & added the yellow to make it larger. The quilt is folded in half in the picture. Sue, hope your finger heals quickly! Yesterday was my birthday & Ron took me to a very nice restaurant. Food was so good & our server was so nice & made the occasion so special! I will ask for her again! Hope you all have a wonderful Easter!

barney because he was first found in the barn?
great name. You’re a cutie, Barney! Please hang around.

Jamie – yes, because he was found in the barn and that’s where he stays – I hope! How are you, Jamie? And what’s new at your place???

Barney is a great name for your cute new kitty. Alice’s 9-patch is lovely. It’s interesting how an on-point setting makes a simple pattern look complicated.
Nice weather today, so I’ll make a little progress on yard cleanup. And I hope to get the pieced borders together for a quilt in progress.
Hope everyone has a lovely Easter weekend.

Barney is an adorable name for that little cute kitty. I hope he gives you lots of pleasure to enjoy him.
Snowing here in Northern Arizona now. Very windy all day yesterday.

Oh no, Sue in Marion, IN! I really fear doing something like that – now that I’m on blood thinners, I’m sure it wouldn’t be easy to stop the bleeding. I hope you heal fast! Those rotary cutters really can be dangerous! Barney is a great name! He’s such a pretty little kitty. I do hope he sticks around now that you’ve invested so much in his wellbeing. We are fortunate that we have sun today and the weekend is supposed to be nice as well. I love watching our neighbors’ children searching in their yards for Easter eggs. So cute. Take care, Jan in MA

The name Barney is great! Cute kitty! I had planned to go to our Maundy Thursday service at 6 last night. Around 4;30 I went up to my sewing room to sort some scraps and cut some strips for Bear Hugs quilts. This is a project popularized by Mary of Mary Quilts blog—if you haven’t heard of her, check out the blog. Tons of free patterns and many intended for charity quilts. The bear hug quilts are doll-size quilts to wrap a bear or other small stuffed animal to donate to children’s charities. Anyhow, I was cutting strips and—after 40 years of using a rotary cutter with just a few nicks here and there, I cut a significant piece off the side of my left index finger. Would NOT stop bleeding Decided I wasn’t going to be able to stop it so went to the hospital’s walk-in clinic. Over an hour after I did it it was still actively bleeding! (I was taken care of immediately, I didn’t sit and wait). Anyhow, they wrapped it with surgifoam which melts into the wound and stops the bleeding. I hope to make Good Friday service this evening!

Sue, So sorry you had a rotary cutter mishap. I hope your finger is feeling better today and that it heals quickly.

    2. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Sounds like a horrible experience. Glad you had an urgent care close by and they were able to help. Never heard of surgifoam! Always something new.

Sue – oh my gosh!!! That’s a long time to actively bleed but think how sharp that rotary blade is and yes, you had to miss church. The community joins for the cross walk today in place of a service. Years ago we saved our very tall Christmas tree and cut it in two – the sections were roped together to make a cross. I remember going in late Saturday and putting flowers on it for Easter morning – it was beautiful! Christmas tree, bare cross and then a joyous cross with fresh flowers!

Barney! What a cute name for a cute kitty!

We had a threat last night for tornado. I spent 30 min in the basement. Sirens went off. But we did not get it thank goodness. No hail either. Just rain and some wind. Easter they predict rain for the day. We can use the rain here. And it cooled off from 80. Back in jeans and a light jacket!

I look forward to some sew days. One baby quilt quilted and ready for binding.

    Stay safe Mary.

Fran – when I was a kid we were always told if it rained on Easter, it would rain for the next 7 Sundays.

I do dread thunderstorm season for my two dogs cause as you can see in the photo they had to be near each other during the high winds we had. They shake listening to every loud sound.
Barney’s adventures with the other cats will be nice to hear about. He sure looks like a sweet guy. He found a good home with you.
I sure didn’t decorate for Easter like I have in years past. Guess I’m slowing down. Harvey got to the front door which was fun to sew.

Barney is such a handsome kitten. He was meant to be a part of your family. Had quarter of an inch of rain on Thursday. Very windy last night but no storms here. Leveled a garden tank on Wednesday and planted lettuce, spinach, and onions. Will till some of the garden areas today before we have rain all of next week. We do need the rain though. Pieced a backing and cut batting yesterday. Hope to get the quilt sandwiched this next week.
Love the nine patch quilt. Such soft background. Cute dogs
    HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!

Betty – no snow but 1.5” rain during the night – NOW it will turn green and fast. This is my favorite time of the year!
