I’ve had requests for this pattern:
Send $5.00 cash or check to Mary ETHERINGTON, 2345 Palm Ave, Garner, IA 50438 with a SASE – a self addressed stamped envelope that is business size, not letter size.
One reader quilt, front and back

It’s good to see the blog back up and running.
We had our first frost last night. I picked the last of the tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. I also cut some Swiss Chard and dug some beets that didn’t get too big this year. Even so, it will be good to have some to put in the freezer.
I leave Monday with a friend for a retreat in Amish country. It is also their area shop hop. We’ve gone for 3 years and it’s always a fun time.
In my first wedding, my maid of honor dropped the ring, said “Sh*t” right in front of the priest and the congregation! The priest brought it up to her later. He thought it was one of the most hilarious things that had ever happened during a wedding.
Dear Mary, perhaps a photo would help, of the right size SASE, with a ruler laid against the long side, so people can see how long it needs to be.
There are so many “return envelopes” that come in the mail, and they aren’t the original Business Size either, because they came INSIDE the business envelope to begin with!!
Thanks for all the quilt pictures and the news about your plants and animals.
Ruth – I’m guessing you think that will help.
Mary, the Sugar Maple wall hanging is awesome. And you know these photos snowball, right? Tell us about the quilt on the table under the Sugar Maple, I love it! Looks like Ohio Star but they’re placed on homespun? Very pretty, simple but cozy… Jan in MA
I like the floating stars too … you don’t have to worry about cutting points off! Of course, it also has Mary’s typical straight-line quilting, which I love!
Jan – sure, I’ll find the actual pattern if I can.
I’m so glad the blog is up & running. Mary, thank you so much for all of the time & effort you put in to make so many people happy as they drink their morning coffee. I have been reading everyday but not posting much because I have been spending time in hospital ER’s & OR waiting rooms with my sick husband. We have another surgery scheduled for November. He is an excellent patient , non-complaining & thankful for the care I give him. My flannel bullseye has been neglected & I hope I can sit down at the sewing machine soon.
Des – we, as a blog group, are at the age where husbands are having health problems and I understand about bing a caregiver – not just recently but a couple years ago. It’s a hard time and even tho he’s a good patient, being a caregiver wears a person down. I’m glad we can all be there for your morning coffee!
Thank you to Richard and Mary for getting the blog going. It’s the last thing I look for when I shut off my computer at night. If it’s not there, I love reading it with my morning coffee.
I love the sugar maple wall hanging. It’s unusual.
Funny wedding stories.
Thanks for keeping this blog running.
Many years ago, I was at a wedding when the husband said “I take the Nancy as my awful wedded wife” just like in the cartoon. Much laughter but the fact is that was true. He wasn’t much either so it wasn’t a long marriage but I do remember it and laugh to this day. Love the Sugar Maple quilt today.
Weather in Minnesota has turned to frost warnings – super late for us but that’s good. It will be a nice weekend ahead with temps. about 60.
Have a good day everyone.
Joke from Fab Fabrics:
Laughter is the Best Medicine
A man takes his sick Chihuahua to the veterinarian. They’re immediately taken to a room.
Soon, a Labrador walks in, sniffs the Chihuahua for 10 minutes, and leaves.
Then a cat comes in, stares at the Chihuahua for 10 minutes, and leaves.
Finally, the doctor enters, prescribes some medicine, and hands the man a $250 bill.
“This must be a mistake,” the man says. “I’ve been here only 20 minutes!”
“No mistake,” the doctor responds. “It’s $100 for the lab test, $100 for the cat scan, and $50 for the medicine.”
Love the joke, Rita! That’s a good one! And I can’t imagine doing what you’ve done in a week – you sure like to keep busy! Mary, thank you for persevering – we love this community that you’ve built. Jan in MA
Hi Mary, currently receiving your emails in spam. Have you changed the heading somehow. At least am getting them, cheers
Denise – this is what Richard said to do – unsubscribe, wait a bit and resubscribe – it should reset. I swear WordPress is causing this because you’re not the only one!
Three of my blogs I subscribe to were in my junk folder this morning.
Just moved them to my inbox to read them. At least they are coming to me one way or another.
Kathy – I wonder if those blogs also use WordPress – if they do I wonder WTH is happening there!!
Mary,
Yes they are. I just went back on my emails to look as I don’t read them every day like I do yours.
I always enjoyed the “Dollyisms” in the Family Circle. This one reminds me of a wedding I went to. The matron of honor had to carry the ring bearer down the isle. The ring bearer was waving a large, shinny silver toy pistol that they could not take away because he would scream. In the moment of silence when the music changed to the bridal processional, a guest was heard to say, “I wonder if it is a shot gun wedding”. Brought the house down. Fortunately, the couple managed to overcome the faux pas and are still happily married. The only funny story from my wedding was the groomsman that wore white socks with his too short pants. Looks like a light house beacon in every picture he is in. In spite of that, we are still together after 35 years.
Lovely photo of quilts, corn, pumpkins, and antiques.
Love the cartoon and also love the wall hanger. I’m so glad you got the blog working. Have a good night.
