Kate and Blake were here today with their kids and it’s so much fun to see them – which is only once a year. Kate, Brian, Quinn and Hadley live in NJ and Blake, Ashley, Carson and Turner live in Des Moines. The kids love to ride their grandpa’s old golf cart and then we also have another one so two golf carts run the wilderness trail for about 3 hours straight while we adults chat and get caught up.

When everybody left I went after feed and then came home and mowed. Caught up for a couple days.
Malynda Reed! I can’t find an email for you but your box arrived today ….. in this condition.

Nothing was broken! I can’t believe it! I don’t have time to take photos tonight but I’ll show you what she sent – too much fun!
Finger Jello

Remember this? The owner of the white car sent it to me last week.

Sue Smith – haha! From another Old Hen!

For all you readers in North Iowa, come to the Open Textile Show oat the fair later this month. Show only – for fun! No judging so no need to be shy about bringing two quilts. There will be a People’s Choice Award – all details above or call Michele (Hank’s mom) for more information, See you at the Fair! (Show located in Britt, Iowa.)
Heading to Mayo tomorrow for tests on PMR – polymyalgia rheumatica. I will also go on Thursday to see the doctor so I won’t know anything until then.
Off to bed very soon!

Marie, Maybe they are picnic baskets. I’ll have to play with them but that’s a good thought you had.
Glad you have had a good weekend. Nice to have visitors. I haven’t been feeling to good. Had an echocardiogram and the results aren’t great, so off to see a cardiologist. Doesn’t sound fun to me, but I’ll keep plugging away. I hope your visit to Mayo goes well. I love the flag quilt , the colors are so nice
Deb – Rick recently had several echos and the dr determined a med change. Hope it’s as simple for you. Have you been feeling rotten for awhile? Please keep us updated –
What fun for the big and little kids to have the golf cart rides around the wilderness trail. How nice they come back to see you each year. You must be special to them.
Wishing you good news at your Mayo appointments.
Kathy – I know they’re special to me!!
Thanks for the recipes. I think I will try your jello bars. Does it go into a 9 x 13 pan? I could use the gelatin for my fingernails. They are so bad about chipping and breaking these days.
We are still having cool weather. Such a gray summer. I often wear sweatshirts and use my cuddle quilt to watch TV in the evening. By mid, day some days, it can be quite pleasant to be outside (unless its super windy) with no sticky feeling on your skin. Then, it turns and the cool gray fog off the ocean starts coming back in. Last year by now we were having nice warm days from morning into evening. No fog.
Sue – pan is actually a bit smaller – maybe 7×11? But they’ll just be thinner in a 9×13
From the Other Old Hen 😊
Mary, I hope the trips to Mayo go well. I looked up PMR. Interesting that it mostly affects people of Scandinavian or Northern European descent. At least by Thursday you’ll know, one way or the other. Sending a hug!
Mary, yup looks like a flag quilt to me. All those perfect star blocks just waiting for you. Wish my stash was that great. Kids love to drive golf carts. Lucky you to have the space for kids to ride. My brother was in a serious accident several years ago. He was not able to drive so someone loaned him a golf cart. I remember going on a donut run with him one morning. I could have driven us there in my car, but it was way more fun in a golf cart. Guess even big kids like golf carts too. The card with the dogs on it is so cute. It makes me smile every time I see a dog with its head sticking out of a car window. They even make goggles for dogs. That would make me laugh to see that.
Just checked the forecast and they too out the three digit on Sunday and Monday!
Jay said that there is a new crop of dandelions growing! And crabgrass! So weed warrior is spraying weeks.
I have therapy today. I’m still having trouble unless getting to sleep. I finally get to sleep at about 1 am. And then get up at 6:30 and take another nap on the recliner. 😳. Grrr
The hip is doing good. Do still ice it. Helps the swelling and the pain because I only take Tylenol.
I hope I have the energy after therapy to go downstairs today. I want to get those cards off today…..
Have a fabulous summer day! Hope all goes well with medical.
I have been cleaning and cleaning and I am done with that for a few days. I hope to get some sewing done but probably not today. Tomorrow is UFO day and I have my quilt top done! Yea!
I texted a picture of my pile of fabric for my “Summer Ant quilt” to Mary last night. The story behind this one goes back a few years when I bought 12 ant blocks from a vendor on Ebay . The “ants” are just fused down and need to be stabilized so I just put them away in my “kits to do” project pile. Since being up at the cabin this summer, insect projects are holding my interest for some reason. So, I pulled the ant project as my DD# 7. My Bee Quilt was my DD#6 which I actually finished and Mary posted last blog. Since I’m working on a few other projects, this one may take all summer by working on it off & on. Still have “kits” for Butterflys & Dragonflys which I’m looking forward to because the fabrics I have for them are beautiful colors that are Summer friendly. All the “Insect” projects will stay at the cabin and I’ll use for decorations.
I like those ants, but am curious about the plaid squares with the two black strips sticking up. What are those? Your Insect summer sounds like fun.
Dot, I don’t have a a clue what those squares with antenna are for. I didn’t make them but got them from Ebay. May do something with them as I work with the squares. Any suggestions or ideas what they are?
Barbara, could the plaid squares be lunch boxes or picnic baskets. Sometimes you can find a plaid lunch box in an antique store. Those ants are going to be a cute project.
Barbara, I’m thinking the plaid with the black strips are picnic baskets with black handles. My MIL had a picnic basket very similar to that. What a fun project! Love to see a picture of this when you finish it!! So cute.
Alice, I think you are right about them being picnic baskets. I laugh every time I pick one of those blocks up!
