No lights can be seen anywhere – can’t see the highway and sometimes not the barn – I’m glad I don’t have to go outside.
I looked for Tim this afternoon and he was in his box in the woodshed. He knows there’s nest in the barn – why won’t he go there???
This afternoon when Keeper wanted to be outside I found him laying in the snow so I shoveled a small spot and laid down a blanket. Here’s what I saw when I looked outside next:

I try so hard.
I’m glad Michele got home so Hank would be happy at home. She said he’s been on her lap several times today. My dogs want to go out but I’m afraid they’ll get lost in the blizzard.
Here’s a better picture of the star pattern along with a block I just made.

There’s only two measurements – 3-1/2” and 2” – can’t wait to see your star quilts!!!
Guess it’s time to close this up and take pictures tomorrow – the windows are all covered with snow so I can’t see out. This morning not a single chicken wanted to go outside and this afternoon when I checked on the geese, they were already in the barn. Mother Nature told them to take cover!! Thank goodness I’m not having to worry about them.

I feel for you ladies, constantly clearing snow. I seem to be constantly mowing as we’ve had lots of rain with flooding in the west of the State (Qld, Aust). Keep warm and safe.
Denise – your turn is coming!
Too funny about Keeper! LOLOLOL You got snow! We have had several snow showers but nothing is sticking which is fine with me. Still have nasty winds. This star block will be a project for me to do along with the other 40+ projects waiting on me to start or complete. Stay warm!
Thank you for the star block pattern, Mary. I will try to get some cutting & sewing in this week. It’s a great pattern to use up some of those scraps that we accumulate. Our temps here in SW Ohio is 34* & very windy. My sewing room is in my sunroom & for some reason when it’s windy & raining it leaks. Fortunately where it leaks it doesn’t leak on anything but the carpet. Normal rain fall it doesn’t leak, so has to be the wind + rain. I need to get this fixed before things get worse. Just noticed that it has started to snow a bit. Keeper must love the snow! I had one dog that really enjoyed the snow as well. Glad your other animals stayed in where they were warm & safe! I agree, I’ve had enough winter & I’m ready for more mild temperatures. I’ve put out chips of Irish Spring soap & hope it keeps the deer away from what’s left of my tulips & bushes. They’ve now started eating my blue spruce tree. We are overrun with deer as farm land is being turned into subdivisions & their habitat is gone. One new subdivision near here consists of 100 new homes right next to an older subdivision. The older one is having flooding problems due to all the trees that they removed for the new subdivision. Trees were supposed to be left along the fence line & were still removed. Contractors don’t always play by the rules! I’m betting on a lawsuit soon….Trees are so important for so many reasons!! We are fortunate to have a lot of large trees in this community.
Had a good laugh about Keeper. Guess he wants a cold bottom. You do try hard.
The star block pattern is perfect. I am going to try to cut them in half as I am making a small wall hanging and want to use your block in it. So, thank you for it. Stay warm….
Looking forward to seeing all the stars! I made mine a little different than Mary’s. I cut the background and center squares at 3” and the star points at 2 1/2”. This way they overlap in the center rather than meet. It means you don’t have to pay attention to points—exactly the simple piecing I needed at the time. Either way, stars are such a satisfying block.
We don’t get a lot of snow where I live but after a mild and dry Jan-Feb, March has been so rainy I don’t even want to go out. More time for sewing, I guess!
It got pretty nasty here snowing sideways and wind gusting. 5 degrees this morning in SW Iowa. Now get this! Prediction of 80 by Friday!
I long armed another quilt yesterday. I love these days at home alone. Ha Sew day here tomorrow with small group.
Keeper loves the snow! I had a dog that would roll in it. Shake off and run around. This was in AK where the snow is dry in mid winter.
Oh my, all the different weather patterns. We’ve had winds but the highs will be in the 80’s . To hot to early. I hope everyone stays safe and warm. Mary thanks for the star pattern.
Mary, I am so glad you didn’t have anywhere to go. And that the animals are safe.
I think that floating star is so cool. Amazing how a little creativity by using the squares on the corners creates a triangle. I am easily amazed. I tried in my little brain how it was done. Thanks for the pattern.
I finished a good book by Dean Koontz, A Big Little Life A memoir of a joyful dog Trixie. I highly recommend it. I read it on the library’s app Libby.
Yes, a blizzard! We had 6 inches of snow roaring around! Big drifts north of the house. The north and east windows are still covered with ice! The wind is still blowing 20+ mph! And it’s 2*! I’m sure it is not pleasant out there!
Goofy Keeper!. He probably likes to lay in the snow. Our Aussie would go and roll in it and shake and roll some more! Our Aussie would not have been out there in the wind tho. He hated wind and so do the kitties!
It is bright and sunny! Love it! And Jay just brought me a fresh cup of coffee!
Have a good day Mary and thanks for the pattern! And the blog!
By the way, we call this storm the fault of high school basketball tournaments as we regularly get our worst storms during their tournaments. It’s been like this for as long as I can remember. Oh well, at least we know to keep our boots and jackets handy until April.
This storm sure covered a big area. We got about 12″ so hubby got to use the skid loader to plow out 2 neighbors and us. It sure worries me as he has macular degeneration and is legally blind but he can still do this (and secretly loves it). Because it happened on Sunday, our church needed to cancel so our wonderful minister went on Facebook. We attended, in our jammies and drank coffee for the first time ever. That man is totally dedicated to us and the Bible – love him. Now the storm has moved east where they don’t need more bad weather. In the afternoon, I got some sewing in which sure makes me happy.
Mary, Keeper must know that snow is a toy to play in, at least for a short time.
Have a great day everyone.
We’re expecting rough weather overnight – we’ll find out how bad! Many people are still without power from Friday’s big winds. Beware the Ides of March! And mayne the day after too…. stay warm!
This is crazy weather!
Last Thursday, 109 mph gusts. This Thursday, record breaking 80+ degrees!!!
Those of you in the blizzards path, stock up on batteries. I have fresh battery flashlights all over.
Isn’t Keeper a pistol? You can give a dog a blanket, but, you can’t make him lay on it.
I’m done with taxes, so I can load a quilt on the longarm and do some piecing tomorrow…yea.
I hope everyone (including animals) stays warm and safe. Meanwhile in Phoenix we’re getting “extreme heat warnings” of high 80s. (Side note – 80s is nothing.) Friday it is supposed to be 100. That’s far too early for that kind of heat. Sigh.
Thanks for the star pattern, Mary. I added to my list. Please send a little snow and cold to us and I’ll send a little dry heat.
Glad everyone is warm & cozy. We are supposed to be low 80’s by the end of the week in the 4 Corners area.
So glad that all your animals are staying inside and safe. Love the star block pattern and will make a few for sure. We shoveled twice today and our snow fall hit 24 inches easy. Then the plow came by and dumped more in the end of our driveway, twice. It was heavy and wet so not so easy to shovel, glad we have a snowblower. Winds were brisk all day so lots of drifting. Tonight we are to get more starting at midnight, 5 to 7 inches. Its going to be cold most of the week (under 20) but should hit 40 by Saturday. Lots of businesses were closed today, along with churches. Stay safe everyone and hope everyone has power.
Will be fun to see all the stars! Thanks Mary. Stay safe and we wait here for the bad weather to blow our way Monday night into Tuesday. We are under high wind alert tonight.
Stay in and warm!! We got close to 20″ here in Owatonna. It is getting colder. It’s been about 27 most of the day plus the wind. So glad I didn’t have to go anywhere. I think I read the Iow tonight is 3…that’s cold and not the windchill temp. Blizzard warning til about 4AM. Close to 60 by the end of the week!!! We have a pile of snow about 20′ deep from the parking lot being plowed.
I love the Star pattern maybe it will give some incentive to start sewing again. Thank you!!
Everyone “stay warm”. I’m glad the barn animals are smart enough to stay in the barn!
Crazy weather everywhere. It is still winter but where I live in So. Ca. it was 92 where I live and turned on my “air” for an hour.
Off to my sewing room!
Stay safe.
We have 50-60 mph winds with a little snow. Its bitter outside.
I’m glad you are all safe!
