So warm and windy today we took the golf cart to,the pasture where Hazel immediately started digging.

Looked like so much fun that Keeper joined in.

They both kept digging towards each other closing the gap.

When they met, look what they found!

Now that’s a hunting dog! Haha!

After her bath we always have to play “towel”!

I am too tired to concentrate on writing the directions for the little wedge quilt – maybe tomorrow. Sounds like we’ll be home bound with a blizzard.

Mary, this is such a great post!! The colorful quilts, the baby in Grandma Huff’s arms, the dogs, the comments – ALL so Wonderful! Thank you!!
Mary, Hazel has quite the hunting nose and determination!
Thank you to all the readers for the love for Baby Hamilton and his airplane quilt! He was born 3/4/25 weighing in at 8.2 20” (a week early) Big brothers Edison and Thelonious.
I need Hazel at my house. I’ve got a mole or gopher. We have tried to get rid of it but haven’t been able to. It is so destructive. Our dog isn’t interested. He’s only interested in cows. He’s a border Collie so I guess that’s normal for him. He gets so excited when we load up any cows. I always make my own pie filling and crust. Last year I canned apple and peach pie filling. It turned out good. We are on the southern edge of you storm, Mary. So far only wind and a bit of rain.
Marie – wish I could loan out Hazel to you – she’d be tickled!!
Lovely quilts today! Love the airplane quilt & that grandson fits just perfectly in his grandma’s arm! Precious!! Hazel is teaching Keeper to take care of those mice, they are so sweet together. Boots had his first check up with my vet yesterday & has to have eye surgery. He has what’s called Cherry Eye & has to do with the 3rd eyelid. He’d already had this surgery last Oct, but it needs to be done again. Boots had made himself quite at home here & is probably one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever had! He adores Ron & cries when Ron goes home! Adopting Boots has been good for my friend Ron. Those of us that have fur babies understand how special they are & what they add to our lives! This little guy has taken over my recliner, I have to move him to sit down!! I applaud the granddaughter who received the scholarship! How proud her parents & grandparents must be! That coach who allowed the bullying should be replaced, shame on him or her!!
Alice – haha! Boots took the recliner – not surprising if that is your favorite chair!! So sorry he needs another surgery though – poor guy. I’m glad he landed at your house.
Mary, I will have to say Boots is also a guard dog! I invited my neighbor next door to come over to get some of the pork loin I had fixed & he wouldn’t let her in the door! Such a big loud bark for a 15# dog!! He was fine after I told him it was okay! He spent the next hour on her lap with all his toys! She just recently lost both her elderly dogs & wanted to meet Boots & it gave me the opportunity to make sure she has food for at least 2 meals. I know how hard it is to lose a dear pet! She plans to adopt again, but just needs a bit of time. Not sure why Boots gets the zoomies at midnight, but he does. At least he sleeps well afterward!😊
Alice – zoomies at midnight is not fun if you’re already in bed! Haha! Boots thinks he’s German Shepherd guard dog
Love reading about the antics of Hazel, Keeper and Hank. That Hazel is something else! 😂
And the airplane quilt was so special along with the photo of grandma with new grandson.
I wish I could have been there to witness the dogs. Brings back so many memories. I had a Cairn Terrier that loved the water which often meant a mud puddle.
We came back from Branson, MO retreat 1 day early due to the storm we are having now. So far just rain and sleet and high winds. I have a ton of laundry to do as I leave Tuesday for HI! And I have appts in the city the next two days. I hope to squeeze in some down time between now and then for some sewing! Ha
Beautiful quilts at AQS in Branson!
Fran – now you’re going to HI??? You love to travel – you’re my exact opposite haha! We are having your storm this morning – expecting 6-9” of new snow. Have a great time and tell us all about it.
What fun Hazel and Keeper had!! Firstly don’t have any nice in the house either. My dog followes smells along the house. I never know what he’s following. I hate to think it might be A skunk under the house.
Beautiful March Madness quilt. I love the red! The airplane quilt is a classic. Lucky little guy. What a cute picture of him in grandma’s arms.
Mary,
What beautiful quilts! And grama and baby look so happy.
Will you share his name and how old? He will surely love the airplane quilt soon.
A great day in the orchard! Love Hazel and Keeper.
Our last few days have been so warm, all spring flowers starting to pop but tomorrow we’ll get your storm too. Take care everyone. 🌻
Hamilton is his name and he is 1 week old in the photo.
Hazel and keeper are quite the pair! So funny! Love towel time! Does she do zoomies after that?
The airplane quilt is cool! The March madness quilt makes me want to cut some 5 inch squares! So bright and cheerful!
Well, we were suppose to have some snow and rain but it moved south east. Now it’s just roaring wind!
Stay warm and cozy Mary!
Joy – yes, zoomies are part of the routine, too. We have a great airplane quilt pattern with propellers – I’ll find it.
That’s quite an excavation for one little mouse. Go Hazel! Love that colorful basketball quilt & all the others too. We have been asked to keep the little spaniel for another week. She is such an easy dog.
Des – oh, thank goodness she’s an easy dog to keep! Yes, the quilts are so great!!
Sweet baby! Cute quilt.
I absolutely LOVE Hazel! She is such a cutie and her antics always make me smile! My dog gets the zoomies after a bath – it’s so funny. She looks so happy – that doggie grin says it all!
The grandma/grandson photo is precious and the airplane quilt will be a treasure.
The dogs were having a blast digging away. It’s in Hazels DNA but Keeper probably learned a new thing. I looked back at the previous post with him sitting in his chair waiting for Hank and it just cracks me up. What a personality.
The quilt pictures and family pictures have been so wonderful to see lately on here. The warmth goes on giving away such neat quilts. So nice seeing children with their new quilts.
I pulled out my March Madness UFO and am using leftover charm squares too but I still have time to zero in on a specific color too.
I took a picture of a primrose in my flower bed that has blossoms and today is going into the 70’s. Each day of Spring has something different but that’s the interesting part of living with four seasons.
Does anyone make their own pie filling? We bought a raspberry kuchen for $8 at the grocery store and commented on how little fruit filling was in it. Guess I’d like more fruit taste that the dryness. I’d rather spend $8 on fruit and make a filling to put on my old dependable Betty Crocker red checkered cookbook recipe for sour cream coffee cake.
And you would avoid any preservatives too Kathy., if you made your own
Kathy, yes I make my own filling for pies! I don’t make the crust, however! Pillsbury makes very nice pie crust!😊 I do make a crumb topping for fruit pies rather than top it with crust. For $8. I can make a very nice cinnamon apple pie! One of our favorites!
What a happy little face your Hazel has. You have given her such a good life! Thank goodness for towel time. Otherwise it wouldn’t be worth the bath! Lol! My goodness I loved that picture of Grandma and Grandson. I could feel the love all the way here in Illinois!
Hazel, Hazel! What a hoot she is. She has a super smeller for sure. And that face and those paws! Oh boy. She certainly had the best time! Now would she eat that mouse?
I can’t believe you’re having another snow? Storm . Oh fickle Spring.
Our daffodils are up and I’m starting to see some of the flowering trees get that soft pastel color as the buds start forming. We don’t want anymore stinking storms.
Mary your quilts are all so wonderful. I’m blown away by how quickly you produce your quilts. I like the scrappy simple ones as well your colors are always so pleasant to the eye. Gee I guess that’s why you were such a successful designer.
Leaving tomorrow for a quilt retreat. Looking forward to time with the ladies.
Patricia – no, Hazel wouldn’t eat the mouse – she just wants to get it and bite it enough times to satisfy that killer instinct – haha!! This time of the year I have lots of time especially in the evenings and I’m trying not to be wasteful of that precious time.
Hazel’s happy face is such a delight! Thank you for sharing her escapades. I have a girl like that–our Cora gets into all kinds of trouble, but she is so happy doing it that I can hardly keep a straight face when I’m talking to her about what a scamp she is. I found her standing atop our burn pile yesterday, determined to track down something she wanted (or some critter she had tracked there, more likely). The fact that she’d been told *not to* go up there just before then meant nothing to her–in fact, you would have thought that none of my words meant anything to her, that she did not understand English, suddenly. She just grinned at me while I discussed the matter in a stern voice, apparently waiting for me to get to the “praise part” for her cleverness. That, she would have recognized. Goofball.
I must say how much I love the airplane quilt; it reminds me that I’ve been intending to make one for my brother, in honor of our dad, who was a fighter pilot in WW2 and Korea. and how cute is that baby??!!
Beth – Cora? Oh, what a lovely name – it was my paternal grandmothers name and I plan to use it for the next female pet that comes along. We have an airplane pattern with propellers and I will find it and post it. Cora sounds Hazel on top of our brush pile – which probably has a variety of critters hiding there.
That doggy grin says it all!! Absolutely perfect day!
