Update, Monday

Having never moved snow with our tractor and loader, it was not a pretty sight. The ground was so wet and soft underneath that the loader dug up patches of ground even though I tried to be so careful.

I was close to having cleared the power gate when I took one last swipe – and I should have quit while I was ahead because I caught the gate with the loader and lifted it up on one end. Now the gate needs repairing because there’s a gap underneath. Oh, how I wish I had stopped before that happened.

We also had this trailer in our yard which belongs to the contractor who is going to put new siding on our barn. All the materials are under a snow bank and today he came and pulled his trailer out to go to another job. I’m so glad he isn’t going to try to wade thru the snow and mud to start this project.

Rick is getting therapy and the dogs love to visit – here’s Telly in bed with him.

We’re off to the care center now for a quick visit and to deliver some socks.

Well, at least you tried. Not sure I would have the courage to try to shovel snow that way. I guess in the next few weeks, until Rick is back on his feet, you just may learn you can do a lot of things you never did before. Needs must as they always say. Tell Rick I’m praying for him. And you, too.

I think it looks like you did a great job!!!! Hopefully your gate won’t be too hard to straighten. This snow will melt soon 😊. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Rick! Nothing more healing than the sweet dogs!!

It looks good to me! My friend says, ” No one died, no problem!” Is Telly comforting Rick or Is Rick comforting Telly? They both look content. Mary, don’t over do it. You need your strength, too. Take care. You all are in my thoughts.

Oh dear Mary, please know I am sending prayers your way for both of you!

Prayers go out to you both. Years ago we moved from Maryland to Connecticut. My husband was in a cast from his groin to his toe on one leg–tore his achilles tendon that was not diagnosed correctly so it atrophied. Anyway I had to empty the attic in the garage (snow tires, all kinds of junk, etc.) , change a flat tire on one car, and drive his baby (Rover 2000 stick shift–never drove a stick shift) with him supervising in the back seat to CT. Life does get better!!! Hang in there–WONDER WOMAN. We’re proud of you.

    Oh My Goodness!
I can drive our stick- hot rod, but I don’t know if I would have the courage to try something like what you did!
You just do what you have to do though.
Hope your weather hurries up and becomes nice!

You are amazing, Mary! I would never have even considered doing that! Wow! Hope you are getting some time to relax. Looks like Rick is getting some special attention, they look so happy and relaxed together. Prayers are going out for you and Rick for a quick recovery for him and some help and relaxation for you! You are amazing!!

Our pets always make us feel so much better! Good on you for clearing the driveway yourself. I always seem to have a few mishaps too, but it sure feels good to try new things!

The snow is lovely but must be moved if you want to go any place before May (I used to live near Buffalo so speak from exoerience). Spring will arrive and after a couple weeks the brown and gray will be gone. You’ll fill in the scrapes in the lawn and then you’ll be mowing grass.

Mary, Maybe the snow didn’t need to be moved so soon. And don’t be afraid to ask for help from the neighbors. There are some things that can wait, even though you think they have to be done NOW.
Here in Rapid City we got at least 4 1/2″ of snow starting as rain last night with no wind. Now that is really unusual. The ground was so warm it was just icy mush under the snow making it slippery. The snow had melted by noon on the sidewalks, streets and parking leaving a bit on the grass. It was so wet and very heavy. We really need the moisture.
The dogs will keep Rick company. Just wait til the cats get their chance. They will all do a very good job. And please don’t take any chances. You need to be easy on yourself as you need to be able to take care of Rick when he comes home. The rest will wait.

    Hi Mary,
    I feel your pain!
My husband is recovering from back surgery. He’s five weeks into recovery. They went in from the front and then the back it’s called a 360. He was in the hospital 3 days and then to a therapy hospital for a week. Sending him was the best thing we could have done. But like you the whole world is on our shoulders for a little while. Good thing Our Lord made woman as strong as we are. Thoughts are with you and Rick🐩 Sue Davis, Argyle, Tx

Sue – the therapy at the rehab facility is invaluable! Glad your hubby is home and recovering!

Add my prayers to all your other friends prayers. They are especially for you also to give you strength and keep you well. I know the dogs are good company for both of you. The snow will melt hopefully soon. We had 13 inches Tuesday and Wednesday but it’s almost all gone. There are some things that you could get help with I’m sure. People like to help.

They say practice makes perfect. Hopefully we’re done with the snow and we you won’t have to worry about moving snow! By next winter, Rick will be back on his feet and working that tractor himself.

  14. Moe Baly

OMG Mary! You certainly got the snow!! Hope this week it melts and the mud won’t be too bad….eeek! Glad to hear Rick is doing well.

You certainly proved that “you can do anything you make up your mind to do”! I’m thinking about the fun adventure you had, but taking out the gate was the learning experience! When Rick was “on the road”, I bet there were many things you accomplished that might be mind boggling to us.

Keeping you both tucked safely into my thoughts and prayers!!!

Ann – Telly really misses Dad and is bored without working outside with him. When the weather improves, that will change. Yes, I have lived her by myself most of 40 years and am very capable but I can feel my body getting old.

Barb has been telling me about your blog and I have been anxious to join. If you have tried to send this to me in the past, I have never received it. Along with that our computer crashed and I lost everything. Looking forward to seeing more.
