Update on My Boarders

Yesterday my young friend Nataly from church visited me and brought her dog Ezra along.  You might recall that Ezra has been a boarder in the past.  Nataly wanted to visit and help me one day when I had several dogs boarding so yesterday was a good day.  From front to back here are the 4 big dogs waiting for a treat:  Moses, Telly, Ezra and Toby.  She got them all to sit beautifully before she gave them a treat.  Just look at that concentration!

Today it was very, very hot and humid but riding a lawn mower didn’t seem to make it seem any hotter so that’s what I did this afternoon.  The dogs ran around the grove and the yard and entertained themselves while I worked.  Before long Toby showed up looking like this.  He found the drainage ditch that runs through the grove and discovered how cool that mud could feel.  Remember that 2″ of rain we had a few days ago?  It made for great mud.

I hosed him off in the swimming pool.  He stayed clean for about 30 minutes and he went back to that mud hole again!  If he continues this, he’ll have to sleep in the kennel tonight.  Poor Toby!

Toby, Dakota and Moses arrived last Friday night and I have not left the farm even once since then.  Tomorrow Jackson and Tucker arrive so for two days I’ll have 5 big dogs and 2 little dogs here .  When it rains, it pours.  Ha!

You wouldn’t have so many if you didn’t treat them like they were your own. If I lived 100 miles from you and had a dog, I would board them with you. Except they wouldn’t want to come home. You are a great person to leave loved ones.

Angie – thank you-I try to take care of them as if they were my own. They are pretty comfortable – ha!

once again Mary you made my day…love the pictures. Wouldn’t we all love to play in the cool mud and then be hosed off. We too, here in Hudson Wi, are dealing with hot and humid..thanks Mary.

These pictures are just too funny. What a group you have. Carry on!!
It is hot and humid here in the very SW corner of MN. We live on a farm (not as much fun as yours) and we have a generator that kicks in 15 sec. when the power goes off. It also runs when the power company is short of power. This is one of those days. Today it ran from 1pm until 8 pm. They are buying power from us during this time. It is loud, but at least it helps others stay comfortable.

Oh my goodness…did we ever chuckle at the happy muddy dog. I had to share it with my husband. We have wonderful memories of our own labs over the years enjoying mud puddles like that. Thanks for the laugh. Our dear 6 year old yellow lab Freddie recently enjoyed the arrival of fresh chicken manure on our back field…rolling in it that is…I wasn’t laughing that evening…peeeww. It someone had seen us trying to wash him that evening they certainly would have been laughing. Enjoy your lucky boarders. Ursula

Ursula – last week Telly found the rotten goose eggs and rolled in them repeatedly! It took more than one soaping and rinsing – what a terrible smell!

Why is it dogs love rolling in all that “stuff”? I guess it’s like kids and a puddle, just too much fun:) It’s hot and humid here in Central Ohio, too. Staying inside and quilting helps. Thanks for your posts, Mary. PS Today I met a “rescue” woman with 12 cats–wow!

Diane – bless her heart. What do you do when the cats show up and need a home? I hope nobody thinks I intended to have 14 cats in my house! That was never my plan!

I’m surprised Toby doesn’t spend the day in the swimming pool! I would. Hot and humid here in Topsfield, MA, too. Today I think they declare it an “official heat wave” because we’ve had so many days in a row. I walk dogs in Salem and Danversport and was hoping that the ocean would bring cooler air but no, just as hot there. You must be a dog whisperer to be able to have so many dogs with no squabbles! My little dog Louis gets so jealous when we have other dogs here.

Janice – Telly doesn’t really like all the boarders but she puts up with them. She’s much better with them when Rick is gone otherwise she plays “poor little me” to Dad and then it’s Dad and Telly against the world. We don’t have any squabbles but I am always with them – always. I would never take a chance. And I make sure they are very tired.

Mary, love your posts. Nataly is a doll to tend to her charges! We need your pictures to reassure us that everything is going to be all right. Thank you. Made my day!

Oh but they have SO much fun when they’re with you! Love the ‘patient dog’ pix..too funny!!

I think Toby has the best of both world’s…mud to roll in and stay cool and a pool to get clean. It must be a new game…but how long are you willing to participate?

I thoroughly enjoy the posts about your boarders! I am all smiles and laughing as I read. I’m sure each boarder hopes the others would kindly disappear so that they can have your full attention and love. Thank you again for sharing.
