You all did it!!! The Long Tall Chickens post is gone – thanks to everyone who helped. I don’t need this aggravation in my life.
So many of you have ordered Porch Swing with Heidi on the cover.

Heidi left us last week but I had to make the decision. She has been part of my life for over 20 years and this was a hard one.
And the following day God sent her replacement – this little girl showed up in my barn.

She was afraid of me initially but is not feral and now welcomes me. I don’t know this for sure BUT I think she was dropped here when her owners discovered she could be pregnant. I’m not sure about this but it’s possible. Young female cats can get pregnant at 6 months of age and she doesn’t look much older. Owners don’t spay the female cats and suddenly they’re faced with a litter of kittens. I can’t say positively she’s pregnant but it’s my guess.
If I’m right I stand by my opinion that you can’t fix stupid.

Here are some things for sale from Mary Ellen at Little Quilts – details on each picture.

Every day there’s some yard work that gets done – it’s beginning to look good again. I always panic in March and wonder if it will ever get past looking trashy around here.
Are you watching the Masters? Even though I’m not a golfer I do enjoy watching – mostly because it’s so impossibly beautiful!
What will I name my little girl in the barn?

My sincere condolences are with you Mary – to lose a twenty year companion. The price of love.
Maybe your new little one should have an “H” name (like Heidi) … maybe Hailie or Hannah. Once I start thinking about pet names, I can’t turn it off, lol!
Wow! Lots of comments! I was going to suggest the name ‘Dot’ for your new kitty, she is pretty. Windy here in Lyon County, MN..it is 67* but feels warmer. I have cut down my grasses and sedums, and I am going to give the yucca a hair cut too. ( I was going to suggest ‘Cindy’ for a name too, but I like Dot better. ) I could not find an obituary listed for Patti.
My condolences on Heidi.
We recently lost our 17 year-old boy, Graham.
I feel your pain.
Such a sweet new kitty! She looks like a ‘Robin’ to me.
Happy Spring! – from Janet in Rock Hill, SC
So sorry to hear about Heidi. My mom’s cat Whiskers live to be 20 also.
Glad to hear you found the little kitten in your barn. She’s lucky to have found you. My friend always named their dogs Lucky.
I wrote to Samantha from Etsy also. I’m glad she took down her post. I don’t think pdf should be allowed on Etsy. They do it all the time. I never buy a pdf.
Prayersfor Patti.
Mary, so sorry for your loss of Heide. She had a wonderful life with you! Now a new kitty & she’s such a cutie! My thinking on the Etsy is she may have read that your shop was closed & thought no one would notice her selling the patterns. Little did she know that you have a very active following! I think it’s a great idea having your attorney draft a letter that you can send to nip this in the bud if this happens again! My week certainly didn’t turn out as I expected! I received a call from a friend who needed to leave for SC immediately due to a medical emergency for a niece. She needed me to take care of her dog for a few days. Of course, not a problem. We always watch each other’s dogs when needed! Only problem was Boots had never met her dog! To say it didn’t go well is an understatement! I ended up caging feisty little Boots! Ron was kind enough to take him to his home for two afternoons, which helped. Somehow we need to find a solution, because I will have both dogs together for 2.5 wks in July! I never dreamed this sassy little Shih Tzu would act like this!! Sigh….
Alice – oh, dear! It’s too bad this meeting had to happen immediately without a meet and greet first. Between now and July you’ll need a series of “play dates” for these two feisty pups. I had not thought about this gal reading that the shop is closed but that still has nothing to do with copyright infringement. Yes, my “following” saved the day and I’ll just bet she’ll think twice before she does that again. Good luck with your pups!
Mary, we had planned to get the pups together & it just didn’t work & then the emergency travel. We will try this on the other pups turf & see what happens. Boots has more energy than any pup I’ve ever had & he’s so fast! I learned not to leave any candy close to where he can climb to get to it! One small bowl of jellybeans gone in a matter of 2 min! And yes, they upset his tummy!! Regardless I have to love this little 15 lb ball of fur! I agree on the copyright infringement, wrong is wrong, but I bet she thought she could get by with it! She was (I hope) taught a very valuable lesson by those of us that responded!!
Alice – Boots has changed your life, hasn’t he? I’ll just bet you thought he was going to be a lap dog, didn’t you? I love that you say he’s fast – I can just imagine him running thru your house.
Heidi was a very fortunate kitty to have lived such a long life and with you! I think the new girl looks like Button.
I have that pheasant pattern and have been intimidated by it. Maybe I can get it done by fall.
Have a good weekend everyone, my guys are in the field here in northwest Iowa cultivating, getting ready to plant corn.
Don’t be intimidated by the pheasant pattern. It’s not that hard. Just take your time. You can do it. It was lots of fun to do. It is a well written pattern.
So sorry to hear about the loss of Heidi. The loss of a friend of 20 years leaves a big hole in the heart. The new kitty looks like a sweetie. All but one of the cats that shared my home just appeared at my doorstep.
Heidi was such a pretty kitty…..Twenty years is a long time to share life together….I am so sorry for your loss…I wish many times that people were more like our little ones…..
Why do people think they can get off with stealing someone else’s work….You have too many people who have your patterns and someone will see it…go figure!!!…
The new kitty looks like she is so gentle….I believe God sent her to you too….
Linda – yes, we are too well known to let people get by copying our patterns. Someone will surely see it and tell us. I think I’ll have my attorney write up a letter – so I have one ready the next time this happens.
I think that’s a good idea, Mary. The less than honest need to know you’re serious about not tolerating them.
I’m so sorry for the loss of Heidi. In her late pictures, she looks as gaunt as our 20 plus year kitty we lost last July. That tells us it was time.
Today was a sunny day in Ohio. The bicycle trail was green with some spring flowers in bloom.
The fern leaf peony is nearly ready to bloom. The start was a gift from friends in Iowa; it survives here but doesn’t thrive like those in North Iowa. I’m always happy to see the blooms each year and remember the great people that gave it to me. I’ve had to cover it a few nights due to cold temps.
Beryl – Heidi was gaunt but still eating quite well – except for the day before she died. Then I really knew it was time but until that day she’d come trotting up to me begging to eat. She was still so “with it” although she lived on Gerber meat baby food for the last month or so. My fern leaf peony isn’t even up yet!
I love Jeanine’s potato chip quilt – front and back!
Sorry you had to let Heidi go but glad a new kitty came to sooth your heart.
Viv in Idaho – Thank you for the compliment. It is all made from men’s shirts, front and back, but not the binding. I have two more I made from men’s shirts. One is done, the other one I need to put on the long arm. I was in the hospital for 8 days last month with a very bad eye infection, so that really slowed down any progress in my sewing room. I am finally able and ready to sew again.
Jeanine – I will watch for your next finishes. I have a tote of plaid flannel scraps I need to use up. Glad you are feeling better and able to get back to your sewing!
Mary – So sorry to hear of Heidi’s passing. 20 years is a long life! I’m glad you were able to have her for so many years. I am looking forward to the porch swing pattern I ordered from you. My suggestion for a name for the new cat is Betty.
I found a sewing book from the 40’s on Etsy and guess what? It was a pdf version. I didn’t order it. I found an original vintage book on eBay. 😊 I do hope people on Etsy who sell knock offs realize the issues with copy infringement. It’s highly unlikely but maybe they’ll think twice before listing themselves as the “designer” and selling a copy of someone else’s pattern or cookbook.
Have a nice weekend.
Take care everyone.
A thought on Patti – Google her name and add obit. Sad to think that, but better to know than wonder forever.
I too like Marta. So very sorry about Heidi. We miss them, but remember all cats go to heaven.
Reinjured my back cleaning last weekend so babying it today. Working at the preschool consignment sale for 3 shifts this week didn’t help. Ugh
So glad our nastygrams worked. I get so mad at people who think laws and rules don’t apply to them.
Okay, I might as get on the bandwagon. If you don’t name the kitten Heidi, then how about Heidi-two or just Two. Actually, anything works.
Janet – I’ve thought of that – just like Three got his name!!
Mary- I’m so sorry you had to make the decision for Heidi to cross the Rainbow Bridge. What a long kitty life! Amazing that a cute little one was sent your way! Little girl is beautiful! We had one show up on our front step- he fit into a little Dunkin Donut munchkin box! There’s no way he would have climbed the big step by himself. At least he found a good house- ours for 14 years!!! Lots of great names suggested for you to consider!
I think Hildie would be a nice replacement for Heidi.
McKie – I really do like Hildie!
I’m so sorry about Heidi. She had a wonderful long life with you, the best any cat could want. The new kitty looks sweet. I wonder if there is a little bit of Siamese in her lineage; she looks like she might be a little cross-eyed, at least in that picture. How about April for a name? Since it’s when she showed up. I hope she’s not pregnant!! Irresponsible pet owners drive me mad!
I have a lot of yard clean up to do, too; waiting for some warmer days next week to get started. Today is a better day for staying inside and sewing.
Do you have a Molly?
WE have had a crazy busy week and a half! Jays 80th birthday was in the 7th. Ryan and his family from Michigan came last Friday early morning, our grandson Riley flew in on Saturday from Peoria. We all got together for a party last Saturday evening. Our party was at our house because that is what Jay wanted! You can’t visit with everyone at a restaurant! Plus, young kids don’t have the patience for that! It was a great party! Ryan and family stayed until Tuesday. Guess who was pooped! Ha!
Then we had grandparents day in Sioux Falls on Thursday and again on Friday in Rock Valley! WE can stay home today! Yippee!
Joy – oh my gosh! That’s enough entertaining for three people!! No wonder you’re tired. I always think this about your family – they’re so dedicated to celebrating that they’ll travel any number of times or miles to be there. My family would NEVER do that. You see your out of state kids oftener than I see Becky who lives 14 miles away. Ha! Glad Jay had a wonderful birthday!
Thank you Mary! Yes, we do see the Michigan kids about 4 times per year. Depending on graduations and now weddings and special birthdays or anniversaries. They don’t come to Iowa for graduation but they do for weddings if they can. Jays birthday did coincide with their spring break from school. We have another wedding in September and our 55th anniversary is in October so that’s a combination.
Are you blowing away today? It is absolutely awful!
Joy – yes, the wind was horrible! I did a bit of raking about noon but quit because it was no use. My scalp is sore from my hair blowing outside. So I worked in the shop pricing things for the rummage sale – oh, they are cheap! I want them gone but not in the garbage. The stuff is too good to toss and I won’t live long enough to sew it all. Sadly I brought two projects back to the house to sew up – sigh. They may be going back out to the shop if I don’t get them sewn.
Aw, Heidi had a great life and I love that you’ve been sent a replacement. I love the idea of “Marta” but you’ll have to make that decision. Snowed overnight but just an inch or so. It’s pretty much gone now. Hoping for better weather soon but in the meantime, I’ll be puttering around in my sewing room. I’m learning how to spin yarn! That’s been fun and also how to weave. I bought a rigid heddle loom a few years ago and I’m finally learning how to use it. I’m sorry that we haven’t heard from Patti. Jan in MA
Jan – I sent Patti another email today hoping someone is fielding them on her behalf.
Oh Mary, I am so sorry that your sweet Heidi crossed The Rainbow Bridge last week. Treasure all those beautiful memories of your sweet girl! Big Hugs coming your way…. It is so hard to lose one of our furrrrbabies.
I think Heidi helped guide this newbie to your house, She looks like a cutie pie!
She hit the jackpot by finding your house, she will be well loved!!!!
Mary, so sorry about the loss of Heidi. You have so many memories of her 20 years with you. The new little kitty looks precious and doesn’t know yet that she has found the best home possible with you!
The universal cat distribution system at work. So, so sorry for your loss. No matter how long each one is with us, it is never, ever nearly long enough. So true about stupid; but, at least, by chance or design, she found a loving, caring home. I am sure she will let you know her name in time, they always do.
I am so sad about Heidi. We had 10 cats over 47 years. We got sisters and immediately named one ladybug and the other one was called “the other one” because we couldn’t decide on a name. My son put his foot down and said her name is Brownie, stop calling her the other one. Kids! Good luck finding a name for her. I like Shirley.
Mary, So sorry to hear about Heidi, my condolences to you. Twenty years together is a long time with your sweet cat. It’s great that an earlier photo of her is on one of your quilt patterns. Name for the new kitty? There are a lot of good suggestions made already. Guess you’ll have to see what suits the little one’s personality best. We get a really nice day today, so I am going to go outside and enjoy it. Janice Traverse City area.
Janice – my friend Jane just returned to Traverse City after several winter months in South Carolina. Her dogs are laying outside in the sun after their baths.
Shedding some tears for you, Mary, knowing saying goodbye to a dear friend is so hard. Your new baby, your gift from God, has such a sweet little face. I’m pretty sure her name is Molly.
Sweet Heidi! I am so sorry, Mary.
There are so many great name suggestions for your new baby. Your cat drop off story reminded me of my sister. We teased her about being a crazy cat lady. She lived on a little farm outside of town and got drop offs all the time. She always cared for them. She had a few sheep and 2 horses and some chickens so she had a nice barn and outbuildings. Sometimes a cat would become an inside cat.
Sheryl – most all of mine become house cats because they follow me there. They learn to use the dog door quickly and just like that I have another housecat!
I literally cried reading about Heidi. She had the most wonderful l& full life with you. Saying goodbye is never easy. I’m envisioning her as a youthful cat sporting beautiful wings now — flying high and perfectly whole.
The new kitten is gorgeous! I think she looks like a Charlotte. I don’t understand cat owners who don’t spay/neuter! I’m sorry you have yet another orphan dropped off but I’m happy she found you…she will be so well taken care of and loved.
I am so sorry about Heidi. It’s never easy to say goodbye. The first name that came to my mind for your new fur baby was Sally. If she needs a middle name … how about Sally Mae?
Yay! Etsy & Samantha know not to mess with quilters!
Mary, because of you, Heidi was loved had a good, long life.. The first name that came to mind was ”Shirley”- my grandchildren loved the DVD of Shirley Temple as Heidi in the 1937 film. I also love what Fiona said, “Marta”, Heidi’s daughter’s name. Certainly the appearance of a new sweet kitten is no coincidence. 🐈 xxoo Always enjoy your quilts & reader’s quilts and your blog about nothing.
Name her April!
So sorry about Heidi.
Mary,
So very sorry about Heide…..such a hard thing to do…..sending you hugs!
The new little girl that showed up is just beautiful…..Several people mentioned naming her Luna & i agree.
Sandy
I join the others saying how sorry we are about Heidi. Your new baby kitty was sent as comfort. There is a wonderful group in our town volunteering to raise funds and rescue cats and bring awareness to the you can’t fix stupid dilemma that seems to snowball. I donate dollars and also items for their craft sales. I admire their dedication just like I do you who take in these poor helpless critters and provide love, food and care. I could easily be a cat lady surrounded by many and miss mine but our two dogs are aging and that’s enough. I know the day will come when I will have one or two again. I like Luna and Cate (to think of your devotion to basketball) for names.
I want to thank Polly and her husband for taking in that kitten. You won my heart today for that gesture. I wish for more caring people in this world.
Love all the quilts everyone shares. You have the best readers who have your back Mary with keeping this blog going and fighting those who want to skirt the rules of proper decency.
Kathy – I agree! I have the BEST readers who jumped to my aid!!!
Mary, I’m so sorry about the of Heidi. They become such a part of our lives no matter if they’re here for a short period of time or long .may this new little girl bring you lots of joy as Heidi did. Some names I came up with were Bea for Beautiful/ bequest, Olive for offer,Caite for Caitlyn . Good luck in choosing just the right name for your new fur baby
So sorry that it was Heidi’s time. Such a tough decision for the pet’s family to have to make. What a sweet little newcomer in your barn! It makes me sad and angry that people mistreat animals,. I don’t know how they live with themselves. That little girl has found a nice safe place with you. I love the Pheasant quilt. Nice job Marie C.
We are getting snow today. Arggggg! It’s supposed to be in the 60’s next week so I know it won’t last. But it will delay cleaning up the yard
So sorry for your loss of Heidi 💔😥 what a wonderful surprise it have the new little lady show up! Can’t wait to hear what you name her. She looks so sweet!
Yay 🎉👏that Long Tall Chickens post is down – it’s despicable what Etsy allows 😡
I am sorry about losing your beloved Heidi! How wonderful you got this little miss to help you through your grief! She looks like a sweetheart! I had sweet Sophie who your new baby reminds me of, 1 of 4. I had worked at an animal hospital and someone had brought in 4 tiny kittens that he had found in his garage, I took them home and bottle fed them and kept them all! I already had 3 at the time, all indoor kitties. Only one, Emma lived to be 20. After I got 2 feral kittens Sadie and Sybil who my grandson named, they are 4 years old and have come a long way, still skiddish and disappear when anyone comes over but they are very much loved!
Love all the quilts today especially the last one on the machine! Is that one you are working on? If so can we get the name of the pattern?
Woke up to big wet snowflakes coming down, already a couple of inches, hopefully it will end soon I have a wedding shower to go to, my great niece, haven’t been to one in a very long time!
Love this blog about nothing!
Carmen – no, that wasn’t my longarm but I hope Jane will see this question because I don’t know the answer. Snowflakes???? Ugh.
I’m so sorry, Heidi was beautiful and looked like a very sweet girl! 😢 I hope your beautiful new precious kitty is not with child and knows how lucky she is to have found you! So many wonderful name suggestions, Honey and Luna sound good to me.
Had my first dreaded colonoscopy yesterday and really don’t want to do that again but was told no, every 3 years deary. I had 4 polyps that were not good. I know now I could have mixed the prep with sprite and it would have been better. I never want to have Gatorade again. It was really hard not eating for a day and a half. Seemed like on tv or YouTube everyone was eating and made me so hungry. We celebrated my recovery having lunch at Cracker Barrel, 😋 yum!
I’m so happy my elephant ears have come back and are growing again but had to get some more lantana and salvia, didn’t make it.
Pamela – I sympathize with your opinion of colonoscopy BUT it did its job – found those polyps that could be troublesome down the road. The very first one I had required major surgery to remove a polyp – precancerous! I love elephant ears but don’t plant them anymore because I hate digging them up in the fall. How are your girls?
Yes, I will be good and have another in 3 years, she said mine were the precancerous ones too.
I have been working outside this morning and was pleasantly surprised in finding that 3 of my lantana are trying to grow back, only about an inch high so far. Then found just 2 of my purple salvia next to the elephant ears. I don’t dig my elephant ears up for winter and luckily they came back, yay!!!
Penny and Lucy are doing great 😻! Was surprised the other night to see Lucy carrying one of my jelly rolls from the sewing room. She was straddling it between her front legs, holding the ribbon around it in her mouth. She did it 2 different times. Will send pictures 🥰
I did get some sweet onions and garlic 🧄 planted and last week we planted 5 boysenberry plants from California. I love boysenberry jam and I hope they grow well!
I’m so glad we could all help getting Long Tall Chickens off the Etsy site. Shame on her!!!!!
I am so sorry about Heidi. Definitely the most difficult part of being a pet owner….. heartbreaking. Sending you hugs, but then God sent you a new kitty……. what about Chloe for a name? Although I always say they need to live with us for a bit and then the name comes to you.
Lovely quilts as usual. I’ve lost my mojo in the sewing room lately and can’t seem to get it back. I know it will come back eventually…….. meantime I’m doing some cross-stitch.
Lynette – my sewing mojo has nearly disappeared, too – I’m too tired at night to jump into a new project.
I am so sorry about Heidi. Twenty years is a long time and she knew she was loved every second.
I love all the quilts today. I was startled to see the pheasant quilt – a friend gave me that pattern because she lost interest in making it for herself. I totally forgot I had this pattern. It will be a great project for late summer.
Every day we tackle another area to clean/rake (27 perennial gardens spread over 42 acres). At the end of the day, we look at each other and say we’re getting too old for this! We’re doing some major landscaping projects this year so we’ll be busy most of the summer. Next we will be mowing – we mow 12 acres. It’s a good thing we love the outdoors so much!
Samantha got our message! Will it stop her immoral ways? Maybe.
I’m so sorry for your Heidi heartache. I too live rural and I also never have to go looking for a cat. People amaze me that they will just drop a kitten off to fend for itself. What are they thinking?!
Jean – with your overwhelming support I do think Samantha got the message but I’m keeping my eye on her Etsy account. Yes, what are people thinking? I wonder how many kittens/cats have appeared here from the road – always the eastern part of our property where the road runs. The community knows I love cats therefore they think I need/ can take in another one.
Hi Mary, l vote for Luna, there is a beautiful full moon tonight, we saw it as we went out to celebrate Luna,s birthday, she is 5 on Monday and my brother is visiting this weekend! Sad about Heidi, but she didn’t look well in the photo. My brother has his little poodle here , Eileen and Bella is not thrilled, but tolerating her and the girls are enjoying a lively game of ball throwing with her. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Hallo Mary, I am sorry to hear about your beloved Heidi, but see that ‘the cat distribution system’ is still working! As she comes after Heidi, how about Marta as a name? That was the name of Heidi’s daughter in the original Heidi books.
Fiona – I love the name Marta! What a nice connection, one I would have never thought of. Thank you!
I think your new kitty looks like a Precious. If she is pregnant, will you keep them?
Jamie – probably … because they’d also be precious to me after watching over them from Day One.
Mary, I’m so sorry you had to let Heidi go. She was a beautiful girl! How fortuitous that a new little one came along at this time. Not that she can replace Heidi, but hopefully she’ll take your mind off your loss. She seems to have kind of a golden tone around her mouth … how about “Honey”? I can’t wait to hear what name you choose, and your adventures with a new little sweetheart … have fun!
Mary ,
I’m so sorry to hear about your beloved cat Heidi. They occupy such a large space in our hearts and have been wonderful companions through the years., And letting them go is the hardest. I am shocked that you have a brand new kitten. She looks very young. I’m not good with names, but someone suggested Sadie, and I like that a lot.
So Mary, I don’t know if he’ll cringe when I ask, but would you sell the chicken pattern? I assume it will be the cost of the others you have pictured in the last post.
The yardwork, all the yardwork. Yes it’s come to the point where I can’t get it all done at once. It takes patience and my body lets me know that I can’t do what I used to do all day long. Plus, I recently had cataract surgery and I’m not supposed to bend over. Boy is that a hard one. Our weather has not been cooperative as of late either. It’s been very bone, chilling and rainy. We need the rain so badly, but it just won’t rain very hard. I don’t want a flood, but we are still in a semi drought.
I am not a golfer either, but I do like watching it because of the beautiful weather and surroundings. I have not really watched a lick of basketball, but when the downhill skiing was on and the world championship ice-skating, I really enjoy that. Racing down a snowy mountain at 90 miles an hour is frightening. I know there are some terrible accidents, but for the most part these men and women stay on their skis and finish the race. Unbelievable.
Is there any word on Patty in Florida? I don’t know if I’ve missed any of your blogs. I’m definitely behind. I get your blogs about one or two in the morning. And I tend to be a night owl but I know I need to get to bed , so I try not to respond at night.
I’m so glad you had a wonderful response to Etsy and your pattern. I tried to respond, but I don’t have a password and was unable to link in. Hopefully the management of Etsy will be more tuned in to what people are selling, especially if it’s not their work, and they don’t have permission. You should be reaping the benefits of your design.
Happy weekend. It will be rainy and cold here.
Pat in Md
Mountain at 90 miles an hour is frightening. How they do it I don’t know.
Patricia – the Long Tall Chicken pattern was posted just a day ago when I showed old patterns for sale. It’s $5 like the others. Please include a SASE. I, too, have reached the conclusion that I can’t work like I used to – and I hate it because I love to work. You don’t want to get dust in your eyes either. Be careful. Sadly I’ve heard nothing from Patty in Florida – I would think her family would answer my card however. I’m guessing the worst for her, sadly.
So sorry for your loss of Heidi, it just never gets easier to let them go. See was lucky to be one of your kitties.
How about Sophia for the new little one.
Mary, so sorry about Heidi– such a hard thing to let them go. She was very lucky to be your cat, and you very lucky to have her so long.
Maybe you can call your new baby Caitlyn?
What a beautiful post! The quilts are just great.
Your little girl in the barn is adorable, just a real cutie. How could anybody dump her? She made the right stop.
Thanks, Mary
I like the name Lucy. She is a precious looking cat. I am so sorry about Heidi. We’ve had to say goodbye to to cats before and it is so very hard. I’m glad this little lady arrived so quickly. She needs a home and you need a new cat!
I am SO sorry about Heidi – never an easy decision! I hope your new-found kitty works out.
I enjoyed the photos tonight, but the one that really struck me was the pheasant – so cool!
No, we cannot fix stupid (I’ve said that myself!), but we can fix cats… too bad so many don’t! My daughter has the same issue – the dropped-off cats find her. The last one was a tiny blind kitten; the one before that had a broken femur. Amazing….
Gail – the pheasant is a Country Threads pattern available for $5 – I forgot to add that.
Thank you! I just may have to have one!
Gayle, You gave me a new slogan: You can’t fix stupid, but you can fix cats!” And dogs, and other pets. I can see that on a t-shirt and a promotion for spay and neuter programs.
Mary – YES! I wish I had a great rescue or shelter to recommend it to.
YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID BUT YOU CAN FIX CATS!
Your new blessing looks like an Eleanor to me. So very sorry about Heidi. She was a beautiful cat.
We also got a new baby kitty a week ago. My husband was on his walk and found him crawling to the road. No sign of Mom or other babies. He just got his eyes open today! Yes, Walmart has baby kitty formula and bottles. We named him Tom from the old Tom & Jerry cartoons. He’s gray and white.
Maybe your new baby could be Sadie. That’s a good name for a pregnant girl.
We are working on our yard also. We live in Florida and had that freaky snow that damaged some of the plants. We also have Water Oak trees. They drop their leaves twice a year and the leaves take up to 2-3 years to break down. Luckily the county has a regular “green” pickup where they pick up our green stuff like leaves and small branches, etc. They compost it for us and it makes great compost.
I enjoy your blog about nothing. Seems pretty interesting to me.
Polly – thank you for taking this poor baby into your lives. Just what the world needs, right? More unwanted kittens in the spring so your Tom got lucky. Oak leaves in Iowa are the same – you have to rake them because they don’t break down. This blog about nothing is interesting when readers like you respond in conversation so thank you.
Oh, I’m so sorry about your Heidi. The loss of such a longtime companion is really wrenching. And yet, here you go again, with someone new to love. (And maybe several someones!) That sweetheart looks like she needs it. She’s got a bit of a Maggie look about her to me, but whatever you call her, she’s one of the family now.
Have you seen the David Letterman interview with Caitlin Clark on his show on Netflix? I love him, so was delighted to see it, and was so impressed with how she was so self-assured, joking around so easily and just being herself, and seeming comfortable sharing little details about herself. She is handling all of this so well.
Beth – yes, I loved the Letterman interview with Caitlin – all very lighthearted and fun! People always ask me why I have so many cats – I always tell them I have never had to go looking for one.
I’m so sorry you had to let Heidi go. She was beautiful and you were blessed to be her cat mom. The cat distribution system works in mysterious ways bringing you a miracle. Hope might be a good name for your new kitty. God Bless you for your love of animals.
Mary, So sorry for your loss, 20 years is a long time, she had a lovely life.
As for a name for your new arrival, if she’s going to be a Mumma, call her that or Betsie or Bessy.
