60 Minutes and the WNBA, 9-29-24

The WNBA is making news – most of us fans already knew how great it is but now it’s official – ha! I enjoyed the interviews of Caitlin, Aliyah, and Napheesa, who could be a model in another life. And now I’m watching Minnesota vs Connecticut.

And speaking of Caitlin, here is Gloria’s Caitlin:

And here’s somebody who is really tired.

Wonderful pictures; thanks for posting, Mary.
As for antidepressants, I always thought when I retired, I would love to raise two Golden Retriever puppies together. By the time I retired, we were busy traveling, etc. However, my first grand baby was a Golden, who we enjoyed immensely.
We are seeing lots of harvested corn and bean fields in our area. Our AC is still on, and it is quite humid.
    Take Care, 🥰

What a gorgeous quilt and thank you for telling us the name of the pattern, I think I have the same kit. My children may find it after I’m gone, lol. The truck full of puppies is just to cute for words. Took a long bike ride this past weekend (26 miles) and the fall colors are here. We did most of the trail that runs through our town and them we stopped at the brewery for some live music and few “teas” lol

Kim – sounds like so much fun – something I’m too old to do but can dream about. Connie and Roy like those long bike rides, too.

  3. Linda in Saginaw Michigan

I love my fellow Michigander’s quilt, you made a great choice with the border, I never would have thought to add that bright with all the dark colors, it is striking!

That truck load of golden retrievers is my dream come true, goldens melt my heart completely. I miss mine terribly and love everyone I meet. The little pooped out guy on the sofa is so sweet, I’d love to give him a hug.

The news had a segment on the folks that lost their costal homes, one lost the first floor of their house that was ten feet above ground on piers. Now they wonder if they will even rebuild. They had beautiful views before but I don’t think I could rebuild and live wondering when the devastation will return. I’ll stay in Michigan and fight the cold and snow, and lately the heat and humidity, stink bugs and box elder bugs, at least we don’t have earthquakes, hurricanes, storm surges or continuous tornado threats like others!

Thank you, Linda. I told Mary before but I bought this quilt kit at a fabric garage sale in Caseville, MI. A lady was downsizing homes and had a garage full of fabric and kits. So this quilt is a UFO squared! I bought many things including two Halloween panels which I have finished!! Have a great day. Sunflower 🌻

some of us live in florida because that is where the job took us (dh). he is still at the same job since 1981. patti in florida

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Patti – please take care and let us know how it’s going – I’m worried FOR you!! And the insurance issue is just not fair at all – have you had damage and had trouble with your claim?

        1. patti

in all my years of owning in florida, we have had one claim. a neighborhood kid broke a window and stole the playstation, tvs, remotes, etc. only claim since 1982. but it still pay a fortune in premiums. patti in florida

          1. Mary Etherington Post author

Patti – and that’s part of the issue, isn’t it? Premiums are so high and most people don’t have claims but the poor people who really do need the financial help which they’ve been paying for all these years aren’t getting it. Soooo frustrating – I can’t even imagine how they’re going on with their lives.

  4. Rita in Iowa

What cute pictures of the dogs. Sunflower your quilt is gorgeous and one of a kind. Someone is going to be a lucky recipient.
It’s been two weeks since my knee replacement and I get the staples out. Yeah! Having trouble sleeping so I’m reading emails instead.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Rita – are you sleeping in a bed or recliner? I couldn’t sleep in a bed for a long time – as a side sleeper I couldn’t get comfortable. How’s your daughter?

  5. Vicki in Iowa City

Sunflower, your quilt is a beautiful pleasure. Love all the dog pictures, and yes, pets can be wonderful antidepressants.

  6. Brenda in Georgia

This post brightened my day. I love all the animals and the quilt is beautiful. Just imagine all the love we could get from the truck load of puppies!
I am in a suburb just a few miles south of Atlanta, and we were so lucky. The horrible flooding and devastation in other parts of Georgia and Atlanta have been horrible. Many people still without power and so much damage from the flash flooding. I was terrified that night and morning. I think I only slept an hour at the most. I watched the all night weather coverage and got my things together for my safe room and my go bag. It looked like it would come directly over us, but at some point it shifted to the right some and that is what saved our area. I am so grateful and thankful. I have lived here most of my life. I am 84. Growing up here, as a child storms like this, whatever you call them – hurricanes or tropical storms or whatever – did not happen. We worried about our relatives in south Florida, but we just had normal thunder storms and the occasional tornado. Talk about climate change. I really do not like it. I was so scared.

That fire was not too close to me. It was close to my brother who lives in the next county over. He stayed inside. They lifted the warning this afternoon. On the news they said this is the third time that plant has had a fire and the neighbors are up in arms about it. They want it moved.

  7. Deb in Japan

Well baseball season is over for the Twins, the Lynx lost their first game in the semi’s, Gopher’s football looks like it on the rails and the Vikings are 4-0 in the season. The Timberwolves traded Towns and the Wild lost another pre-season. Too bad I don’t watch profession football anymore – just don’t like the culture. Keeping my hopes up for the Lynx – it was only one game out of five.

Rant done – thanks. Oh, the truckload of anti-depressants was perfect.

Sunflower – your quilt is absolutely wonderful. Was it done with printed pieces or did you do it free handed?

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Deb – tonight’s game could have gone either way – looking forward to the Tuesday night games. I don’t watch football either but the Vikings fans around here must be pretty happy. I will look forward to the baseball playoffs but wish the Twins could have been there.

    2. Sunflower from Michigan

      Deb,
The animals were printed pieces. The pattern came from QUILT magazine but on the four pattern pages, there is no date. The pattern name is Call of the Wild by Janet Page Kessler. I’m sure it is quite old (as I mentioned above) I got the kit secondhand. My husband will get it for Christmas!
Thanks to everyone for the compliments on the quilt. Sunflower 🌻

  8. patti

hi all. after another dizziness pill and a sleeve of townhouse crackers, i was finally okay enough to go sew. only made another eight blocks. but that much further ahead. hopefully tomorrow is fine as i have blood work to do at 12:30. egads.
saw the caitlin interview on 60 minutes. the WNBA won so many new fans this year. am happy for them.
caitlin the dog looks wonderful in that neck scarf. the other dog looks so comfy as he/she sleeps.
sunflower i really like your quilt. nice fall flowers.
here’s hoping everyone has a great week ahead. patti in florida

  9. Martha W in WY

Sunflower from MI, your quilt is really nice. Caitlin, the dog, certainly looks regal. The sleeping dog is how I feel about this Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens game.

  10. Joy in NW Iowa

Mary the pictures are awesome! Caitlin the puppy is so cute! The antidepressants would definitely help.
I cannot stop thinking about those people down south. The devastation we had in our community is nothing compared to the lives lost and the destruction! So sad.
It is a going to be a hot windy day tomorrow! I worry so about fires in the field! The guys started combining some corn Saturday and it was 16% moisture! Wow! Amazing! Have a good safe week everyone!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Joy – that’s some dry corn – combine fires are terrifying. Yes, I can’t imagine how those people can put their lives back together. I also listened to the 60 Minutes piece about insurance fraud in Florida from the hurricane two years ago. It’s criminal what they’re doing to those people by not paying for the replacements on their properties and the homeowners are still paying their premiums, of course. I feel pretty safe here in North Iowa right now.

  11. Joyce of NY

I saw the 60 minutes interviews, those rookies sure have increased popularity of the WMBA , I thought it was a great piece.

  12. Debby Krzyston

Interview with Caitlin on 60 Minutes tonight was great. I was thinking of you, Mary.🏀🏀🏀
    Happy quilting, Debby from Wisconsin
