One of Country Threads’ best friends, Amy Marlo, passed away today in Kansas City of a brain tumor. Her best friend Anita was greeting her new granddaughter when Amy slipped away like it oftentimes happens.
We met Amy and her friends Beckey and Renee when they came to camp in the barn 25 years ago. Two other quilters from the East Coast, Christie and Marian, also came to camp and the group has been meeting each year since. I didn’t know Amy was sick until two days ago – it’s my understanding that she didn’t want any of her friends to worry about her or be bothered with her illness. Godspeed, Amy!

This is what I’ve been doing for days – moving plants outside. I am so tired. Stupid plants.
The Fever lost to Conn tonight by 2 points – Conn was 0-5! And The Fever without Caitlyn couldn’t pull it off.
Hank visited today so everybody’s tired tonight.

I sent Amy a card this morning with a picture of the barn where we met and this message:
THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

Mary,
So sorry to hear of your friends passing. You have a lot of nice memories with that quilters group including the photo you shared.
Dogs do look like they’re having fun!
Take care! 🌻
I am so sorry for your loss. I think one of the bad things about aging is the loss of friends but I take time to remember why we were friends and so glad to have those memories.
Your farmer ingenuity is fantastic and I bet it would really sell. It gives me ideas to use for my balcony garden.
Sympathies to Amys family and her friends, may she rest in peace. It’s so hard when you lose a longtime friend. I love the huge chicken in your picture of the CT girls. It amazes me that you can keep so many plants going, I struggle with one cactus and getting it to bloom.
Kim – oh, I can’t get a cactus to bloom either!! I have one that bloomed 20 years ago and never again.
It’s so devastating to lose a dear friend. My condolences to you and her friends.
I’ve been working on my bullseye quilt. It’s been so much fun. Thank you for this unique design.
Sorry to hear about the passing of your quilting friend, Amy. Comforting thoughts sent for her family and friends. Jan in AZ
Mary, I’m so sorry to read about your forever friend, Amy passing. Cancer is an ugly beast!
Love see the dogs and their adventures!!!! The supervisor😂
As I age, I find the gift of a long life comes with the grief of losing friends as we go…I am sorry that Amy has passed. Quilting friends are the best, and memories are a keepsake of the days together.
Your dogs absolutely crack me up! They spend a lot of time exploring, getting dirty, and just living their best funny self! I enjoy seeing them.
That quilt ‘Dashes’ has caught my attention…what a great quilt…any way the maker would share measurements? It is such a great quilt!
I move my houseplants to the outside, too—or Plant Camp, as I call it.
Always enjoy my daily visit with you, even if it includes sad news.

The loss of a dear friend reminds us that we too are here for others. Hold close to loved ones.
The dogs are such a kick to follow!
Gas can…a corn cob was Dad’s go to!
Thank you Mary for your blog about nothing and everything. Makes coffee that much better!
I am so sorry to learn you lost a dead friend. God bless you and all her dear friends.
A dear friend i meant
Mary, my condolences on losing your dear friend, Amy. It’s so hard to lose dear friends. They do leave us with beautiful memories though. Looks like we may have a couple of days without rain that I can set out my tomato plants! This has been an extremely rainy spring & the weeds have taken over everything! Love the blue quilt! Looks like the pups had fun exploring & enjoying each other’s company! Have a good weekend everyone!
So sorry about Amy. Sounds like she had some great friends and memories.
Somewhere my Darrell brought home Covid and now we both have it. 🤒 just feel awful and dizzy, not steady, 😵💫.
The Amalie blues quilt is beautiful 😻
Pamela – well, that stinks!! I know someone else who recently had Covid. Hope it doesn’t last too long for you guys.
Mary sorry you lost a dear friend. It’s hard when everyone is so scattered across the country and the world.
Love that the dogs are exploring, hopefully there are no surprises.
The quilt tops are candy to the eye. Thanks for sharing.
Tomatoes are starting to bloom.
Rita – I don’t think our tomatoes have grown at all yet – a fresh sliced tomato looks like it’s a long way out.
Has Hazel ever gotten stuck in a log? I’m sorry that you’ve lost a friend. My goodness, you do have lots of houseplants. Do you worry about hail on them in the summer?
Martha – omg, I’ve never thought about hail! Maybe it would be God’s way of cutting down my work – haha!!
My condolences on the passing of your friend – it isn’t easy for those of us who are left behind….
I’ll be moving plants around soon – not nearly as many as you do!
We are finally going to get more than one or two days without rain this week – should be a good time to divide the houseplants that need it. Wish me luck!
sending hugs
Sympathy to Amy’s family and friends. Looks like she met several gals that became special friends due to Country Threads.
I totally forgot about the game tonight so missed watching it. Darn!!! Looking forward to Caitlin coming back to play.
Cindy – be glad you didn’t watch the game.
Having just a few minutes finished reading John 17 once more, The Best is just to come is so true ..
