A Little Bullseye Support

I wanted to show you some closeups of a couple Bullseye quilts.

www.country-threads-chicken-scratch

If you look closely, you’ll understand what’s coming next week and beyond.

Do you see that my circles do not match — because I just slapped them on and sewed. Look at the overall quilt.

We will also talk about how to quilt this – you don’t want to quilt over all your raw edges because you WANT them to fray.

Here’s another version.

Enlarge these photos if you need to see the circles closer. I’ll bet you can guess what step we’ll be doing next Tuesday.

Hope you’re enjoying this process.

I finished Bloodline last night – I think it’s the best series I’ve ever watched! Next is Ozark and if anyone else has recommendations, please put them in the comments. Thanks so much! Now I have to quit watching until I clean up my house – ha!

Is Outlander on NetFlex? I have been reading the series of books but thought it was on a special channel on Hulu. I’d love to see the series.

Have you watched The Crown? MidSommer Murders? Death in Paradise? Call the Midwife?
These are on Netflix…several were on PBS….

Carol – thank you!! I wrote them all down ! I’d better clean awhile first before I start another one. Dang it!

Have you watched The Crown? MidSommer Murders? Call the Midwife? Death in Paradise?
Father Brown? These are on Netflix and several were on PBS…I have enjoyed all of these….often while I’m sewing!

Also try The Durrells of Corfu, very enjoyable, and always love Miss Marple. There are several British mystery series, Frost was on forever, we loved it. Wouldn’t mind watchiing again.

Grace and Frankie, or Frankie and Grace… sicruse andcdi funny! We binged it! The retirement village episodes were hysterical!

  3. Diane in Central Ohio

Don’t forget Poldark on PBS. Lots of interesting characters and history, too.

I love those Bullseye quilts–so much fun to make and use.

The kominsky method was a favorite of both my husband and me…light hearted with some poignant moments. We binge watched in one night

As I had started my quilt about 18 years ago I got ahead and have the center finished. Am just trying to choose borders and then may try to quilt by myself. Thanks for the boost to get it done. One UFO almost finished.

I like Poldark and have the books but have not read them yet as am still on the Morland Dynasty Series. Am a slow reader.

  6. Gail Maslan

Outlander is THE best. I’ve read all 8 books and all the related books. I don’t get Netflix but I’m watching on Starz right now, Season 4. Only 3 episodes left. You can also buy Seasons 1, 2 and 3 on DVD’s.
There will be a Season 5 & 6. Each season is based on one book.
I also watch Call The Midwife on PBS.

  7. Karen Barto

If you get Amazon prime I highly recommend The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And Stranger Things on Netflix is scary, but very good.

  8. Launa

Thanks for showing your Bullseyes, Mary.
Longmire is my favorite. I’ve watched it since the first season!

So, it appears, after we get all our circles sewn on we are going to cut the block in four pieces and sew them to other block pieces. Am I right? Because right now all my circles match. I am having so much fun with this, but I really have not made a dent in my fabric stash. I’m thinking Christmas colors would be fun.

Kate – how can all your circles match if you had 48 different squares for. 9”, 8”, 6” and 4” squares which is what I called for? This won’t work if they all match. Yes, we’re going to cut each square into fourths and put them back together with 4 DIFFERENT quarter circles.

      1. TT

I think she meant that the circles she sewed together are all intact as opposed to 4 different quarters (after cutting) making up a circle.

      2. Kate

I guess I wasn’t too clear. I’ve cut hundreds of different colored squares so they are different, but looking at the finished quilt, mine doesn’t look like that yet. Each of my different circles are the same color, like beige, then red, then blue etc.

        1. CountryThreads Post author

Kate – well then your Bullseye quilt will have a unique look of its own! Not all quilts have to be alike and no one has to like YOUR quilt but YOU!

Gosh I must live under a rock. I haven’t watched any of the shows in the comments except Poldark a couple times. I miss Downton Abbey.
Thanks Mary for showing the difference in color selections of the quilt. Makes me want to start another one with my stash of polka dots. I am loving the feel of sewing the flannel on this cold day.

Hi Mary, I am all caught up on my Bullseye second week part, even the back trimmed out. I am going to sew my BH mystery blocks into a top tonight, so I can move on to the border parts. Al and I really liked ‘Justified’. Raylan was such a hoot, but now that I have checked Netflix and didn’t find it, I think we may have watched it on Amazon Prime. Outlander is on Starz, I liked the books so much I have purchased the DVD seasons and like them as much as the books. I have season 3 on it way to my house now…I might need to get season 1 and 2 out to watch again this weekend.

Well, I am loving the Bulls Eye process, but things came to a screeching halt when my old workhorse Bernina had a problem. I took it in this morning and left it for the “specialist” to go over it. It’s not like I don’t have another machine though so I hope to be caught up with all of you for the next instructions. It is such fun to sew in mindless circles!

We LOVE Poldark and many of the others named. We are trying The Man in the High Castle on amazon…it’s alternative history…what it might have been like if the Allies had not won. Lots of drama, but very interesting and really makes you grateful. Multiple twists and turns and we are trying to figure just what has happened and what will happen!

  13. Felicia

Hi, Mary, I have figured it out already and I like the fact that I won’t have to worry about matching things! I worked on an hour glass block the other day and can’t make things to match. It is so frustrating!

You would like Poldark, but one should start watching it at the beginning. Call the Midwife is good too and we like Vera and The Dr. Blake mysteries and of course, Victoria. All of these are in PBS.

Say hello to Reed and Connie. Thank you for sharing your quilts.

Foyle’s War is great…set in WWII England. It’s mystery/crime. Also, Monarch of the Glen – set in a Scottish Castle. These are both series, with likeable characters.

    1. Barb Campbell

      Foyle’s War is our favorite.
Years ago 4 of us made squares and gave each other a quarter of our squares. Every quilt looked different!
I, however have never quilted it. I’m
      inspired to get it done!

  15. Margie

I am a slow sewer and don’t have my 6 inch sewed yet. Not sure I understand the next step here, but will wait for the instructions on tuesday. Have always wanted to do a sew along so am giving it a try. Thanks for the opportunity to try this. I appreciate all the input from everyone. Look forward to each post. Am in Indy with grandchildren and was out in the snow today.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Margie – just hang in there and we’ll see that you get your quilt finished! Thanks for joining this quilt along!

If you do have Amazon Prime I am currently watching an Australian series called McLeod’s Daughters. It takes place on a cattle and sheep station run by women. It is an older series but I am enjoying it and there are several seasons with more than 20 episodes in each.

  17. Jeanne

    Hi!
Just discovered your blog as I anxiously await Beyond the Battlefield …
Meanwhile, I’m delighted about the Bullseye sew-along! I’ve made maybe 10 or 12 Bullseye quilts through the years from your Aunt Amy book, and I think it must be time to start another one 🙂

  18. Amy M

I have watched season 1 of the Crown and enjoyed it but I’m hooked on anything Kennedys or the Royal Family. The Bulleseye brings back such good camp memories!

  19. Deb

The series, Justified! Love that Raylin! (Just found about the Bullseye quilt along on Jo’s Country Junction and I’m so excited!) Thanks!!

  20. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Love the pictures off the Bull’s Eye quilts. Very attractive and cleaver. We finally got snow here in western ohio, about 6 to 7 inches. Harrowing to drive home while it was snowing heavily and the plows hadn’t cleared on the freeway. Ah well, had to come sometime.
