Pictures are worth a thousand words.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg – huge trees have fallen into neighboring trees – one right above the fence on the north. If it goes down the fence will be leveled. So many huge trees were lost! We worked the entire day – picking up twigs and branches. I raked several loads of walnuts and there are many more on the ground.

I hauled load after load after load – our brush pile is not even recognizable. Rick had to get the tractor to push it up higher.
The town of Garner has lots of damage – people are encouraged not to visit or drive thru. Grain bins are down in the country. Steel buildings are collapsed with pieces of steel blown into the surrounding fields.
Our very good friends, Kim and Kathy Larson came late this afternoon to help cut up everything we could in the house yard. The huge trees blocking the grove everywhere in sight will have to be cut up professionally. Our tree guy lost his huge building and sustained much damage at his home. Talk about a guy in demand today!
Last night I showered early just in case the power went out – which it did. I had Hazel wrapped tightly in my arms in bed when everything went dark. The sounds outside were deadly sounding. I could hear the big trees breaking and crashing – I wondered if one would come thru the roof where I was sleeping.
This morning when I looked out to the north side of the house, my heart nearly stopped! I said to Rick – “and we thought yesterday was bad!” We went for a short ride to look around and then came home and started. Lots of the leaves and small twigs were left on the ground to be chopped up with the mower.
We can’t drive either direction on the wilderness trail. We can sneak by behind the quilt shop and no further. Huge trees on the ground ahead and behind – I did climb over the downed trees and walked to the garden. Our circle drive is completely blocked with downed trees – not just limbs – trees! It’s really so sad. We have worked round the clock – remember Rick can’t walk – and I’ll survive but I ache everywhere that could possibly ache and I’ll bet I hurt too much to sleep. We’ll see.
And now here is God’s hand – there is nothing on our house roof or barn. Everyone is safe and after a rest we can start again.

And tonight as I came out of the barn after chores, these guys were waiting!

I’ll save reader photos for another post as well as a joke. Things will look better in the morning, won’t they? I’m thankful I’m able to work hard at my age – use it or lose it, right?
I’m in the porch writing this and I can hear thunder in the distance. We also got another full inch of rain last night. We really don’t need anymore right now.
Now I’m wondering if any of you had damage last night – if you did, how are you managing?

Oh, Mary, I’m so sorry to read of your trials and tribulations. The amount of physical work you are able to do just awes me.
I’m so sorry Mary and Rick! If we had any tools to help we would be there as would many of the readers. We had the wind and rain, but couldn’t have been near as bad as you had it over that way. Our tornado sirens went off, but we were already in the basement. I looked around before we went down and grabbed what I thought was important at that time, in case we ended up with a mess. We did have to chuckle, as when we had cats, it was a real event to get them into their carriers and down to the lower interior bathroom. Then as we all huddled in there for the duration, all we heard was their ‘singing’! hay had to be terrified. Take care of yourselves as the work will always be there and you need to pace yourselves.
Mary,
These pictures are devastating. You’re in our thoughts and prayers. Go easy. 🌻
Mary, so sorry that there is so much devastation on your farm and in Garner. We had the 74 mph winds come through Stewartville, MN, which is a little over an hour’s drive from you with the same results. Tops of pine trees snapped off and big pines toppled. Roofs of sheds ripped off and debris everywhere. I was in the basement and could still hear the trees falling and crashing and the wind roaring. The electricity was out for about 7 hours. No damage to the house or us so I am grateful. I also noticed the same thing that the corn fields surrounding us did not seem to have any damage. Our brush pile is growing also.
Wonderful news that Rick, you, and the animals are fine. That was a storm! We had heavy rain this morning, but there was little wind with it. If I lived closer to you, I’d be over to help you. I’m so sorry you lost so many trees. The weather seems to be getting worse. Again, so happy to hear you all are fine. Take care cleaning up the yard.
Mary, I am just so thankful that both you and Rick are O.K., that the pets & farm animals are all safe, and that there was no damage to your buildings The photos of the tree damage is unbelievable, and destruction so heartbreaking. You certainly have had very challenging weather this year. Stay safe. Janice Traverse City.
Mary, I forgot to ask . . . Did Becky have any damage where she live?
Janice – no, Becky had no damage from this storm
You are correct; the pictures tell so much. I’m sorry to see you had so much damage to your trees. I’ve seen some pictures from Garner, and Ventura / Clear Lake. (I hope the campers that overturned were empty of people.) Was the damage county wide or just in the Garner area? I recall a derecho in SE Iowa a few years ago; it caused quite a bit of damage, too.
Mary, I’m late to the blog today, but know you and Rick will be in my prayers. We usually get “that Iowa weather” a day later, but we seem to be spared the two storms you have had. Just a little rain here, about 3/4″ over the last two days, but no wind damage. I’ll check the basement for leaks just to be on the safe side. So sorry the grove has so many downed trees. I can’t imagine how heartsick you must feel about that. I’ve enjoyed your pictures of you and the pups exploring during a ride down the lane. And now it is filled with broken trees. My goodness. As others have said, don’t overdo and stay safe. Rick, that goes you, too. No crazy stunts on the tractor! Kris in South Central WI.
Oh Mary, I’m so sorry to see all the devastation on your property . Thank God and you, Rick and your animals are all safe and your house and barn were spared. It will take time to clean up so please be careful and do a little at a time.
Such devastating destruction! The weather has been such a tizzy lately. So very thankful you all are OK and no damage to the structures. Be very careful with the cleanup. Wisin I lived closer to help. Take care! 💓
I am so very sorry for all your devastation.
Take your time, rest and rejuvenate. It will definitely wait for you. The rest of us are thankful that you and Rick and your home are safe.
Absolutely. That was a horrific storm. Whew! It is good all of you were inside and safe. The clean up will take time, but just go at a slow pace. The wilderness trail really got hit hard. It will get better. Those wind speeds are hurricane speeds. Hang in there, Mary and Rick.
Mary, so shocked at all the damage to your trees but so thankful you and Rick and the animals and structures are ok. Please don’t push yourself too hard do too much to soon. I know you hate looking at all the damage but pace yourself to stay able. These derechos have become so much more frequent in our chaotic climate. Hope they won’t be in Iowa again anytime soon. Just heat and humidity here in MD at the moment, but that is manageable.
Karen C.

Mary this just breaks my heart for the loss of your beautiful, natural wilderness! But so very thankful that God spared you, your home and your sweet animals. This reminds me of when Hurricane Michael destroyed our trees and town back in 2018. We had the remaining trees close to the house cut down so we weren’t in danger of having one of those fall on the house. I know it’s a job right now but eventually your will recover and it wil be beautiful again. So sorry! Do take care cleaning up and don’t harm yourself. It will get done eventually. So sorry for the damage in your town and surrounding. Prayers for all!
Mary, so very sorry for the loss of your beloved trees, I’m sure you must be grieving. The work ahead of you will be mentally draining as well as physically exhausting and I hope it helps knowing we hold you in our thoughts. I’m grateful for the blessing that kept you, Rick, and your precious animal family safe.
I was fortunate that I don’t have any damage, but the road to Shell Rock from my place is underwater again, they say the Shell Rock River is going up to 14.4′ on Friday. and the 7 block street to a main road was closed as they had so many trees down on the road. Kid came and got my skid loader and the grapple so he could help get trees off road and clean up the 2 trees that fell in the yard of the house they rent. I’m now waiting
the store to deliver my new washer/dryer. The weatherman just said that we’re in for a dryer spell and I’m ready for that! Take care, I too mourn the loss of our big trees.
My heart aches for all the devastation to your grove. My heart rejoices that you, Rick, and all the animals were spared, as well as the buildings on your farm.
Jan
Wow, so much cleanup to do, but so thankful that you, Rick, and the critters are all okay. And your buildings, too. I don’t have anything to add that everyone else hasn’t said—totally agree with those who said to pace yourself (I know you will). Take care!
Oh Mary, I’m so glad you, Rick, & the fur babies are all okay! Hearing the scary sounds of the falling trees & wind & wondering if you all would be okay would certainly be so scary! I certainly understand wanting to clear up as much as you can so when your tree guy is available, it will make it easier for him. You are so fortunate nothing came down on the house, barn, or quilt shop! I would call that a God Thing! I know you will keep after the cleanup until you’re satisfied you’ve done all you can…I would too! We’ve had lots of heavy rain storms here in SW Ohio. We had an amazing 2 wks at the lake & returned home last afternoon. I can’t believe how hot & humid out weather is! In prior years we’ve gone for walks with the dogs. We pretty much stayed inside due to the humidity. My neighbor kept my flowers watered, but I guess she forgot about the tomato plants on my patio. Out of the 3 , I’m sure I can save 2. If we hadn’t had the rain that wouldn’t have been possible! Something to be thankful for! A friend gifted me a dozen cucumbers & I’ll be making pickles shortly. Another is bringing tomatoes from her garden in Indiana. So all is good. Both pups are missing each other terribly. This is the first time Boots has had a playmate, so we’ll be doing this again very soon. So fun to watch them play. Take care & lots of prayers for you & Rick & this massive cleanup!
Mary I hated to see all the trees and debris that you have ahead of you to clean up. We faired much better here near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Just got the limbs and twigs picked up. We have quite a pile of stuff to burn when it dries up a little. We had 2.32 inches of rain since midnight and so over 9 inches for the month of July. Take care not to do too much and stay safe.
Another big storm? So sorry you have such destruction to your beautiful farm and yard. Glad you and Rick and your pets are safe! I’m sending you good thoughts for strength to deal with the mess.
So sorry you got slammed again, and worse than the first time. Good news that the house & barn escaped damage. I hope you didn’t get hit a 3rd time in the wee hours this morning. At least the trees in the outlying areas there’s no big hurry to get them cleared, other than open the trails.
Not sure if this will help or not…if you don’t have one, Stihl makes a wee little battery chainsaw – they call it a pruner. It has about a 3″ bar and very light weight. DH is highly impressed with it for cutting small branches, likes it even better than the little 12″ battery Stihl chain saw for smaller branches. You can use it in one hand, freeing up the other hand to hold onto the branch being trimmed – a bit safer that way.
JustGail – guess what – I have one!! It’s just the best little tool I own. In fact I find it in Ricks cart too often!!
Oh, Mary, I am so very sorry! Such devastation is hard to comprehend, even through pictures. What a job is in front of you. It floors me to even think of it. I hope the tree guy can come soon, but with his own damage, that’s got to be up in the air. We had nothing in Northern Minnesota by Lake Superior, but a few years ago, we had a huge wind come through at this same time in July. It only lasted a few minutes, but as I watched out the window, it took down the top third of a 125 foot spruce, which landed on my flower garden, smashed my steel arch flat, and punched a hole through our garage roof. The rest of the tree had to come down and I was heartbroken (small yard, few trees), but that was nothing compared to what you’re facing. I hate losing trees. So sad.
Mary, I’m so glad you and Rick and all the animals are ok. How horrible for your town and friends. I hope everyone is as ok as they can be. I hope you and Rick got some sleep last night
So sad to see those trees down, but relieved no damage was done to the buildings or you! . Derechos seem to be happening more frequently and the crops and trees take the brunt of those prolonged winds. We experienced one several years ago and I stayed in the basement for thirty minutes. Hearing glass break, I went upstairs and saw a trampoline rolling along breaking the neighbor’s windows. Seeing the flattened cornfields was devastating. As others have said, don’t overwork!
The damage was certainly extensive. Take care and know the clean up doesn’t have to be done in a day, a week, or a month – the professional tree service companies will be in high demand, it may take a while to get one to come to your place. I am so thankful your home and other buildings are OK. We had hail with damage to our shingles on July 10. I finally filed a claim and one of the questions the insurance company asked was, “is your home liveable”?” Thankfully, yes. And thankfully, yours is intact. Take care.
Severe rain storm here in Columbia yesterday/night. Prior to the storm, leaves were falling like it was mid Fall. Heard on FOX NEWS this am that a 4 yr old boy died from a very rare amoeba he picked up while swimming in Lake Murray that went straight to his brain and killed him. The amoeba develops in very warm lake water and it sure has been hot here for most of the summer. We were going to take our 3 yr old grandson there yesterday to swim at the beach at our Sailing Club but didn’t because we didn’t have his life jacket. Instead we put up the small folding pool on our deck for him. Strange thing was, we noticed the water coming from the hose via Lake Murray was very cloudy. Emptied the pool this am. Very strange.
This is so sad and so much work and expense for you. I will not complain about our heat wave today, just thank God we have not had this kind of destruction.
SO glad to hear that you and Rick are okay and that your house and buildings weren’t damaged. What a storm! Please be careful as you work at cleaning up – know you are in the thoughts and prayers of all of us who are too far away to physically help you!
We have trees and branches everywhere too. I have spent every day outside all day cleaning up. I have appointments today, so won’t be able to clean up much, but it has been hard this week for sure
Amy – yup, now I can’t wait for it to dry off so I can mow up all the leaves. I need to run to Mason for several things so I’ll get a break, too. We got another 1.5” rain last night!!
So scary for you. Thankfully you all stayed safe. Sorry for the loss of so many beautiful trees.
So sorry you have such a mess. We did have some wind, with a new branch down but no big rain.
We have been fighting a different problem. Hubby has macular degeneration and has had problems since his last shot. It is a real roller coaster! It is a real struggle. They are treating it as an infection. His retina specialist has never seen anything like this before! So the twigs and damage are very far from our thoughts. Say a prayer for him, if you will.
Joy – yes, I will say a prayer for Jay!! And his Dr doesn’t know what’s wrong? Oh dear. Do you drive to Sioux Falls? I’m so sorry to know he’s in pain – if he needs to see someone else, you should consider Mayo in Rochester.
So sorry for all the damage you and your neighbors got! But so happy to know you, Rick and all your critters are okay! It will take time to get things right, but as you said God’s hand was present during all this and we are very grateful!
You had unbelievable damage to your trees. Thank you God for keeping your buildings and animals safe. We spent most of the day yesterday picking up branches from along the driveway. Tons down by the barn – that’s another day. Thankfully this time we didn’t lose any trees. Lots of rain though.
Be careful cleaning things up. I hope your tree guy can help soon.
Gloria – can you work outside with your shoulder? You’d better be careful!! Last night we got another 1.5 rain – I think it rumbled for hours.
I use my left hand but I am trying to use my right arm more. I pick up with my left and transfer to my right. Seems to work ok.
Gloria – good! You can’t be too careful!! Hug to C!
Thank God You, Rick, dogs, animals, house and barn safe! So sad to see all the tree damage. 🙏
The same storm went through our area too. Lots of damage. They were advising people to stay away from certain areas so they could assess the damage. We had an inch and half of rain and more last night. When I was picking up branches I discovered a dead baby squirrel. I went to get a bag to put it in and came back and saw another one. I picked up one and went to pick up the other one and it moved! I ended up finding two more that were alive. I dried them all off and wrapped them in a towel and put them in our gazebo so hopefully the mama would find them. In the meantime time I looked up what to do when you find baby’ squirrels with eyes closed. I spotted a squirrel in the yard and watched as she went in the gazebo and checked out the bowl I had them in and she took one of them and went up the tree! Oh I was so happy. She eventually came for the others too. So I guess I did my good dead for the day.
Deed
Anna – I just left you an email with so many questions which I now have answers to. I’m thrilled that mama squirrel came and got them. The others were probably killed when they fell out of the nest. Where do you live?
I don’t know how many babies they usually have. I found four. We live on an acreage between Canton and Harrisburg SD
That is really heartwarming! Well done!
That is some terrible damage!! And will take a lot of time. I’m glad you and Rick are okay, as well as all your animals. And the house and the barn. I can’t wrap my head around all this climate change. So sorry for Garner and surrounding area.
Praying for you and Rick.
So sorry to see all the downed trees, thank you Lord for sparing the house and barn! You have a mess, I guess the big guy figured you needed trimming. That’s what we get for living in the woods, we have so many downed trees and limbs in the woods, we just let them go. With 25 acres we can’t afford to have someone come in and clean everything up, they would be here for weeks. Glad everyone is safe and I will pray you find someone to remove the trees that won’t charge you and arm and a leg. Your storm would be a great opportunity for a few college boys to make some back to school money!
I texted my son in Long Beach last night when I heard up and down the California coast was under the tsunami warning from the Russian earthquake. It was supposed to come ashore around 1 am our time so I stayed up watching for the news. This morning, I saw it was a bust, thank heavens. My son showed me a map and how Long Beach actually faces south, protected by a city that projects west and south on the coast. He’s been out there for over 25 years and I didn’t realize that! This morning I discovered they only had big wave in northern Cali.
With all the sizemic activity and volcanos rumbling, storms, floods, I think someone is trying to tell us something! Be safe everyone. Blessings
Mary, I am thankful that you & Rick & the pets are all safe. The storm damage is devastating especially those beautiful tall trees. Take care doing all the clean up. I have a feeling that the heating pad & ibuprofen will be making an appearance in your life.
I’m so sorry you had such awful tree damage, but very glad your house and barn weren’t damaged. Straight line winds can wreak havoc! Three years ago we had a powerful thunderstorm with 70-mile-an-hour straight line winds that split the huge, 150-year-old maple tree in our backyard in two—missed our house by about 6 inches. We had to rebuild the pergola on the deck, but I was extremely grateful it didn’t land on the house. It took almost 3 weeks to get that cleaned up and that was ONE TREE. I can’t even imagine the amount of work to clean up your farm. I’d come help if I could! Hugs to you & Rick and everybody in Garner.
Dear Mary,
I am truly at a loss for words. I thank our good Lord for keeping you, Rick and your fur and feather babies safe. You continue to be in my prayers.
Mary, so very sorry.. praying for your strength snd these storms are over.. be safe and take care of yourself..
Mary, so sorry about all the trees. I think we’ve had more severe storms this past month or so than we’ve had in the spring. We have two to three hundred year old trees on our property so every time we get big wind storms it looks like a war zone. Well, Sunday night we got struck by lightning. We lost the satellite receiver, our refrigerator, our coffee pot. Strange things are is that some lights in the second level went out and it was just a circuit breaker but nothing else in the house was damaged. Guess it all struck on the south West corner and that’s where everything was that was affected. Every time we get those violent storms. I stand out on the porch and pray that they don’t come down. I also say God you gave them to me to enjoy. Please don’t take them down so violently. Good luck cleaning it up. It’ll probably happen again. It’s a vicious circle when you have a lot of trees.
Nancy – for almost 50 years we’ve lost very few trees and we have one of the biggest groves around here. This storm made up for all those years. I almost hate to call my tree guy knowing he’s so busy. Ours can wait for him.
That was sure terrible. When I looked at the weather map, the entire state of Iowa was getting a terrible storm. Your tree service company will probably have to clean up the areas to open roads and driveways first so they may not get to you for a time. In the whole scheme of things, you and Rick are lucky your house and barn are safe. Do not overdue the cleanup, it will be fine. I’m sure Hazel is enjoying checking out all the trees etc.
Oh Mary Mary! My heart hurts for what has happened to your land. It takes so many years for a tree to grow. They can hardly be replaced in a persons lifetime. I’m very very thankful that God protected you and all of the animals.
Such devastation, but so happy that you, Rick and all the animals are safe! Don’t work too hard! We’ve had lots of thunderstorms and rain here, but not anything like that!
Gosh, Mary. Everybody asked all the questions I had, so you’ll tell us more when you can. I’m so sorry for all the damage to IA. Don’t disable yourself trying to clean it all up.
Oh Mary! I had to study those photos twice to really try to take in all the damage. So glad you, Rick and your animals are ok. Was Farmer Tim’s corn damaged? I hope you will get some help with this overwhelming task soon.
Bonnie – Tim’s corn probably got some damage but strangely enough trees took the hit worse than crops this time – BUT we got another 1.5” rain last night. It will have to really dry up before the farmers get in the field for harvest.
Mary, Wow, you and Rick have a lot of work ahead of you, it is sad to see what the storm did to your property. Luckily no branches damaged roofs on your home and other buildings. It will take a lot of work for cleaning up but you will persevere, no doubt you will have to cut down and cut up trees in the clean up, I hope in the end it is less work than it could have been. Luckily you have a great tree guy who does fast work. When we lived on the farm our mature trees always suffered some way in winds and storms. Hang in there!
So sorry for all the destruction and loss of your lovely trees but thankful you & Rick along with your precious animals were spared. Such hard work to clean up!
Oh Mary! I am shocked at the devastation! I hadn’t heard about the storms. So glad you guys are safe! Please be careful cleaning up. Prayers for everyone ❤️
Those winds were almost hurricane strength! This reminds me of the many hurricanes that have come through my area leaving all the trees on the ground. We haven’t had any YET this year so I’m nervous some bad ones are coming. Just don’t overdo it on the cleanup. Slow and steady is my motto.
Mary, how devastating. And so much work to clean up.
Take it slow.
I am so sorry to see the loss of your trees and all the cleanup you have to do now. I am happy that you, your husband and your animals all made it through the storm safely.
Oh my – the downed trees are incredible! I’m so glad you’re ok… and please take it easy with the clean-up.
Tonight my prayers are for good friends vacationing in Kauai. They were evacuated from their hotel in poipu and are sleeping in their car in princeville.
Christine – because of the tsunami??? Are they ok?
Oh Mary, so very sad to see the devastation on your property and the loss of your beautiful trees. I do see the hand of God as He spared your house/barn and your animals are safe. Please be careful and take it slow and easy in the days ahead, remember Rome wasn’t built in a day as they say. Take care and stay strong.
Was this tornado activity? Straight line winds? Something else? The damage sustained is incredible. I’m so glad you are all safe. The clean-up will be challenging but doesn’t’ need to be done in one day. Please do not overdo and hurt yourselves. Praying for your safety and the safety of neighbors and first responders. I can’t imagine what you all are going through right now. Take gentle care.
Oh, Mary…My heart nearly stopped looking at your photos. All those beautiful trees on your property and the wilderness trail just a mess!! So glad to hear that you will hire a professional tree cutter. It can be dangerous cutting trees. Ask any logger. And, is there to be another one tonight. Good Lord, make it stop! Seems like Iowa has had enough already. Sleep well tonight. You need that.
The photo’s are shocking! So happy to hear that no one was hurt and the house and barn are ok. Wishing you a much more peaceful night tonight!
Jamie, are you “our” Jamie that we’ve been so worried about? How good it is to see your name pop up again, but no surprise at all because I know how much you’ve enjoyed Mary’s blog with so many stories and photos of all her animals. I’m hoping things have gotten a lot better for you while you’ve been away.
Mary, I have no words for the devastation you’ve shown us, and working your way through it has to be a nightmare for you and Rick. Please don’t rush to do everything at once – the very wet ground where you live needs to dry out a bit to allow all the remaining trees and even the rooted debris become more stable before anyone risks putting big stuff in order. In the meantime, know that we love you and are thinking of you as this remarkable summer moves on to August. I’d guess that iced tea supplies would be a good priority at your house right about now.
Jamie, It is good to see you back on the blog. Missed you, and hope all is well for you. Janice Traverse City area.
Sad to see all of the photos. Thankful you and yours are safe. I’m sure it feels like clean up will never end. Hope you will get help soon-that is just too much for the two of you to deal with. Sending prayers for all in your area.
Oh Mary, I am so sorry this happened to you. Praise the Lord your house and barn, you, Rick and the animals are safe. If I lived close I would come help.
Hugs
Shirley in central OR.
Oh my! The storms were terrible! All the property damage, but I hope no one was hurt. Stay safe!
your pictures make my heart ache. …and you just got it cleaned up yesterday!!! hugs and prayers.
So sorry you had so much damage. It’s hard to lose trees. At least your home was spared. Was that a derucho?
Oh Mary. Glad you all are safe. It appears that it does not take long for many many trees to go down. These shocking images hardly touch what you describe as extensive damage. I wonder if this area was the epicenter. I cannot begin to imagine what other sites must look like. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for the tree guy. Dire straits.
Mary, I am appalled to see those photos. I am so sorry, but thank God that you and your house, your barn and your animals are safe. Was that another straight line wind or was it a tornado this time? Or both! Please be careful to pace yourself so you don’t get down physically.
I’m speechless. You and Rick are in my prayers.
Unbelievable Mary! I’m so sorry for you and your whole area. As tightly as you were holding Hazel, god was holding you and Rick. Blessings,
Holy moly Mary! Unbelievable. I hope you’re able to sleep soundly and won’t wake up too achy. That’s an awful lot to deal with. Here in SW Ohio, we haven’t had any really big storms lately. everything big seems to go north or south of us. We’ve had plenty of rain, and some thunderstorms. Now we’re in for some more “air you can wear”, that is, very hot and very humid. Yesterday it was 85 and 80% humidity!
Be safe. Keep your critters close!
So sorry about all your trees. This last storm we had no damage. About a month ago we lost a huge tree. It only took out a gate and part of a fence. It could have damaged our shed and the stock trailer in it . The tree was scheduled to be cut down this fall. It was a dead ash tree .
It was a huge amount of work to clean up. We have lost many many trees through the years. The in hardest ones to clean up are the ones that fall into another. I’m so happy you will have them professionally removed. Take it easy and stay safe.
Mary, I am so sorry for the loss of your treasured plants and trees. What a blessing that your house and barn were spared. Prayers that the weather will calm down and that you will have a good night’s sleep.
Oh my….and now you are getting more storms and rain tonight. I’m glad your house, barn, animals and humans were all safe!
We had 74 mph winds and over an inch of rain. The wind blew the rain so much that it looked like a blizzard. The wind broke my bean trellis, brought down a few branches and moved our lawn furniture all over the yard, but no damage. Three weeks ago we had big wind in Kasson which took out a bunch of trees so maybe the trees that are left are the strongest survivors, because we didn’t seem to have a lot more tree damage.
I think we will have a bit of a break from the humidity, heat and storms but the trade of will be wildfire smoke. It’s always something….
Oh Mary….don’t hurt yourself trying to clean it all up…we have 1 large tree down and several branches in our yard, no damage to the buildings. Mark was able to push the tree out of the driveway, so it is not hurting anything where it is right now. Waverly and Shell Rock were hit hard too…Shell Rock is still without power as of 10:00 tonight.
Out weatherman is saying big rains tonight…enough!
Take care…find some of those football players to come out and help you!
In New Town, ND we’ve had rain on most days for the last week and a half. Today, we’ve had two down pours. Luckily, there wasn’t much wind with them. I feel sorry for the farmers here. They can’t get into their fields for wheat harvest or baling. Your woods is a mess. I can see why you’re so sad. I’m glad that you had some help from friends today. That must have been some terrific wind to do all that damage. A good tub soak may help your sore muscles Wednesday night. I’ll lift you up in prayer tonight.🙏🙏
You are certainly getting your share of bad weather where you are Mary. To think I’m paying someone to remove a couple of trees! The weather pattern seems to be changing world wide. Wonder what summer will bring where I live? Stay safe.
Denise – yes, it isn’t just our weather. You will likely see a change, too – this could have been worse in terms of loss of life – I’m going to bed knowing that God’s watching over us. And you, too!!
Wow! Just wow! That’s about all I can say. Thankfully you and the animals are safe. I guess there’s a possible tsunami as far south as the Oregon coast after an 8.8 earthquake near the Aleutian Islands near Russia. The weather everywhere is just amazing .
Oh Mary!!!
I’m so very sorry to read about all the wind/tree damage you had yesterday. Sorry to read about the damage around northern Iowa. Thankful your home & barn are undamaged.
We have downed trees here in Sibley IA but our crops are ok. I was in Lyon and Sioux County tonight and it is a lot worse. We are lucky here but we are getting rain again with 60-70 mph winds.
A lot of clean up in the next week
Don’t work too hard, pace yourself!
