Remember I started that easy mindless quilt starting with a jelly roll?

I slapped myself again so I didn’t put it in the pile “to be quilted” –

Almost finished the quilting but the game was starting.
A simple quilt, fast and fun to make and will look great in the porch this summer.

Got the pen ready for chicks this week – I need chick grower and bedding – maybe I’ll try to get them Wednesday. Tomorrow I’m going to Connie’s for a little retail therapy – actually a couch big enough to lay on.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Michigan Wolverines!!! I have loved the college basketball season and am always sad it’s over. This weekend is the Masters which is the only golf I ever watch. And then on May 6 the Indiana Fever open their season. I’m missing Caitlin and women’s basketball.
Did you watch One Shining Moment? (If you know, you know.)

Mary,
Good morning! Lovely red, white, and blue quilt!
I cant wait to see you baby chicks! They are a sure sign of spring! How many chicks are you getting?
Beautiful quilts today and those two cats look so comfy in the chair.
Have a great day everyone! 🌻
Sunflower – I’ll have to wait till tomorrow – we are having such terribly high winds I don’t even want to drive there – the ones I’m going to buy are ones nobody wants because they’re getting their feathers already. The tiny balls of fluff will be too tempting for Barney to eat!!! I’ll probably get about 20
I too, love the patriotic jelly-roll throw! Looks like I will be getting a jelly roll..make it two so it is a nice size! This looks like fun. Today I attended another ‘Gold College’ class at Southwest..the class today was on birding and habitat and where to look for types of birds. In two weeks I shall add my two-cents worth on my escapades as a Bluebird trail monitor and a member of the Bluebird Program of Minnesota.
Cynthia – I know you’re a dedicated birder!
Very popular quilt your Patriotic Jelly-Roll throw is very motivating for myself as well. I have a Jelly Roll with a bunch of mis-matched colors, which I won as a door prize, so I will purchase a rub jelly roll tomorrow! How large is yours, just about the time I biuy one, I will want it bigger. Two it is!
Rose, I love your Glitter quilt! I know Jen Kingwell handpieces all her quilts—did you? It looks great!
Hi, answering Becky’s question about my Glitter quilt which I started over five years ago. I originally bought the acrylic templates but switched to paper piecing-way easier but little too fussy. I only made 36 blocks out of the 96 because I was tired if it and wanted to make Wensleydale(foundation piecing) and needed some of the fabrics I set aside for Glitter. This was my DD UFO finish for April and already hanging up in the Hallway.
We don’t watch much basketball, but we love the One Shining Moment videos, so well done. I enjoy watching the Masters if the Azelea are in bloom, otherwise the hubby watches all manner of golf. The courses can be lovely when in full bloom. Sentry Insurance has a gorgeous course by us and they open it for walking a few times a year as a fund raiser and it’s a wonderful course to just walk. Lots of blooming bushes, flowers, flowing water and shade trees. I have some star blocks all cut out that I need to stitch today. It’s cold here with sleet for most of the day. At least folks have the power back on and now it’s clean up all the mess from falling trees. We are eating left over ham from Easter, love leftovers. Cant wait to see all your baby chicks.
I signed up for Sling to watch the March Madness. Glad I did. Watched Miami of Ohio and Wright State. That was exciting to see. After that I rooted for all the Big 10 teams. I was rooting for Michigan to win and they didn’t disappoint! Now that I live alone I can watch all the sports I want to see. I still think it’s the best reality tv.
Beautiful quilts today!
Enjoy your visit with Connie.
Love your jellyroll quilt. Simple but stunning! I loved the picture of the “twin” cats curled up together. so cute. Can’t wait to see the new chicks! It’s snowing here this morning. Although I’m ready for spring, this is pretty, big fat flakes falling straight down with no wind. And at this time of year, it won’t stay for long. Will winter never end?
Loved all the photos today of everything!
We had snow overnight. Several inches–maybe 3. ha Meltiing already. Sew day here today but only one coming as others out of town.
Prepping for another retreat. This one is in NE and we have one more over there this yr and then she is closing. Boo hoo. Love going out there on dead-end rd in an old farmhouse.
Hi Mary. I love your blog, first one I read. I love the red, white and blue quilt. Where can we buy that jelly roll? Have a great day.
Carla – oh, that jelly roll is many years old – we closed in 2014 and it’s from before that but any red, white and blue combo will work.
I love that Quilt!! Do you happen to have that pattern for sale? Wonderful to hang for a July Quilt. Excited to see your baby chicks when you get them all settled. Please share pictures. Have a wonderful week!!
When looking for a couch to lay on I always make sure the arms are low. Hopefully also padded. Better for the neck when you are only going to rest for a few minutes. 😉
Michele – good point!
Love this quilt Mary, perfect timing for our 250th anniversary! Can’t wait for the directions too!
Mortie looked so cute supervising, love to see her doing her job!
Lucky you – a day of retail therapy and with Connie which is another bonus. All the quilts are so beautiful. I’m looking forward to the instructions for the liberty quilt – looks like a good “go to” quilt.
After my shoulder surgeon saw the quilt I made for my physical therapist, he said he would like one also. He is originally from Spain so maybe I could make this quilt in the Spain flag colors. It would be quick and easy, but striking.
Gloria – honestly it’s so easy there’s hardly a pattern but I’ll write it tonight.
I was curious, so I looked up the Spanish flag. It has three stripes: red, yellow, red, with the yellow being twice the width of the red. I wonder whether the pattern would work with the strips following that rule? Might be fun to try a few sample blocks with some scraps. You couldn’t use a jelly roll, though.
Loved today’s quilts and pets!
Love your red, white and blue quilt. I have many jelly rolls, so I will look for your instructions and try to make one. My go to now is simple. Can no longer do complicated. I love all the animals and everyone’s quilts. I am particularly drawn to the one with diamonds and all those beautiful colors. Thanks for the posts. I look for it first every day. Good luck with the chick preparations and I hope you have a lovely time at Connie’s!
I love your jelly roll quilt. I’m going to copy that one. All the quilts were beautiful, ladies. So much talent in this group. I didn’t watch the basketball games. I’m glad you enjoyed the games, Mary. Sports are fun. I love college football, the Super Bowl, Little League World Series and big boys World Series.
i have made some similar quilts with smaller strips and 4 or 5 of them. I like yours with fewer but wider strips much better. Thanks for the idea.
Since you asked…
Thankfully, my husband only watched some golf games on Sunday afternoons, the super bowl, whatever that fall baseball thing for up to 7 games is called and that was pretty much it. He died over a decade ago. Now I occasionally watch the Seahawks or Mariners (I grew up in Washington State). And that is it. It’s all boring to me. Oh, and he watched dead animal shows. I don’t miss that either (Hunting). So I skim the sports part you write about and marvel at your enjoyment of it.
Lisa – oooooh, dead animal hunting shows! I avoid them like the plague!! Haha!! I remember my mom watching all the games, too – she also loved the MN Twins – she’d wear her Twins Tshirt (Joe Mauer) when the games were on – a fan for sure.
Hi Mary, above morty, s photo was an ad, bottom line was construction consultant! With morty was a block you were making, made me smile 😃, l am sure morty was checking for quarter inch seam allowance! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – haha! Mortie does take her supervisor job very seriously!
Hi Mary, I’m sad UConn lost but they gave a good fight. Congrads to Michigan. I will miss the games but at least I finished the afghan I was working on during the time outs, commercials and half times! Ha! A little late but that’s my DD for March. I’m going to the AQS quilt show in Hartford on Thursday…I should probably leave my wallet at home as I have enough fabric, patterns, machines, thread and notions for a dozen quilter’s life times but what’s a girl to do? All the colors just elevate my mood and I love reading the narratives along with viewing the quilts. Should be a fun day as I’m going with a group of friends that my son has named ” the Bad @$$ Stitchers Club.” I love your red, white and blue jelly roll quilt.
Stay well and God bless
Love basketball as much as you and glad Michigan won!❤️
Love the quilt you finished, it’s beautiful!❤️
Do you have the pattern?
Rita – I’ll post the details tomorrow – virtually no directions! Ha!
Thank you Mary!❤️
