A Stormy Day

We didn’t get the snow that the communities north of us got but we got 50-60 mph winds that did their damage!

Last night both dogs were panic stricken because we had thunder, lightning, rain and hail. This morning the wind was very, very strong – doors were banging, gates were flopping and bird feeders were blowing across the yard. I no more than got a cup of coffee made and the power went out. We learned later that our whole county was out of power due to a substation, poles and lines knocked out of service. Today was our big day out – taking Barb to the casino for lunch and I was giving her the quilts but we had to cancel due to weather. Our power came back on but we heard tonite on the news that the casino was still closed due to the power outage.

Connie sent some pictures from the cruise. Here are the teachers on board: Pam Buda, Paula Barnes and Mary Ellen Robison and Connie.

There are 3 classrooms and the students don’t move, the teachers move depending on the class. There’s always a sewing room open to spend time with friends at the machine.

Yesterday they were at Grand Cayman and Connie took this punch needle project with her to the beach.

Jane took wool appliqué.

Here is the play area on the ship.

And the Promenade of shops.

I think they’re having a great time! Everybody loves a Stitchin Heaven Cruise!

Wow to you for a horrible weather day but at least it was NOT snow! We’re under a “wind advisory” now till sometime tomorrow when it’s supposed to be stormy. We hit almost 80 degrees today in central TN!
Wow also to Connie & guests! That cruise ship looks a whole lot different than the cruise ship we went on back in 1994! LOL!
    STAY SAFE!

I’d never heard of Stitchin Heaven Cruises–think I’ll have to take a look!!

Colorado turned it around today and much of the snow we got yesterday has already melted. The roads are fine again. These late spring snows always bring wonderful green in their wake!! We had horrible winds today as well, but I was able to take Ruby (the 5 1/2 month old pup) for a walk just before dark. I’m hoping tomorrow will be a return to spring weather here!!

Patricia e Campbell – yes, she is! I looked at that picture and thought the same thing but I thought maybe I was prejudiced. Haha! I hope she reads this!

We have some flooding around our area with the rivers hitting flood stage tomorrow. The wind has been howling for the last three days with intermittent rain. Luckily we live on a hill.
Taking a quilting cruise sounds like fun!

  4. Jo in Wyoming

The pictures of the storm on tonight’s news were brutal. We got snow and wind, but nothing like SD!
It is nice the students don’t have to move around, so much stuff, but the teachers…they must be very organized. Do tell Connie, when your class is over, are you free to do whatever you want?
Mary, I’m sure your dogs were glad you were home during that herrific weather. It sounded so scary.

Here the power went off at 2am Thurs. (About 20 hours now.) No power yet; we are so blessed to have a generator–we need it for the milking cows. The power company said it “may be several days.” WE have thick ice and sloppy snow (heart attack snow). We had horrible winds, sleet, thunder, lighting, rain and snow. We have now missed 14 days of school and tomarow is a late start and maybe a close.
The cruise pictures look wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Kathy Schwartz – you have no idea how many times I’ve thought about you in this storm! Yes, you absolutely need a generator! We were very lucky not getting the snow. On a similar subject have you seen the FB interview of the young dairy farmer from Pine Island? Honestly it made me cry! It’s very sad for the dairy farmers and not many people realize it. My friend from NJ actually sent it to me not realizing how close this farmer is to North Iowa. Devastating.

The Midwest has been devastated this year. All the farm losing their topsoil, crops that were planted and animals, just breaks my heart knowing this will be the end of the line for some family farms that have been farmed by the same families for many generations. Times like this make me wish I was a multi-billionaire and I could help with their recovery. I have been looking at the Stitching Heaven quilting cruises…one of these years I will take one!

Susan – are you a farmer, too, or just the Farm Quilter? The farmers around us are pretty big operators but there are still those who don’t have thousands of acres to farm. Guess I’m hearing lots about the dairy farmers right now and feel very bad for them. It has not been a good year for nice weather in the Midwest.

Was a stormy day in Minnesota. I have branches everywhere. The snow is so wet that it’s turned to ice. Our electric was off and on all Wednesday night and yesterday. So as wet as it is I’m not going to try and blow snow.
I have a extra dog here this week and he was a nervous wreck with the wind yesterday!!! Poor baby!!!
The cruise ship is so huge. Looks like they are having the greatest time.

Kate – oh, I know how bad it must be north of us – weather sounds better for next week if we can just be patient. It got very cold here, too – just last week I shut off the heat lamps in the barn. Ugh. Is your extra dog visiting or boarding? Is he better today? That ferocious wind scared me, too!

  8. Mrs. Goodneedle

Glad that you’re safe from what sound like wicked winds. Thanks for allowing us to stow away with Connie on the cruise ship– it looks like a lovely time in every way. That punch needle pattern is just wonderful!

  9. Cheryl in St. Pauk

This storm has certainly been one to remember! We got 8.9 inches of snow, according to the radio yesterday and big, wet flakes have been fall8ng all morning. Wind gusts to 70 mph, thunder lightning, hail and slee throughout the day made it a good day for some handquilting and rehearsing music for Holy Week. Fortunately, even though lights flickered, we never lost power. There will be a whole lot of sticks to pick up when the snow leaves.

Cheryl – we did not get the snow but sleet and wind have covered my yard with branches, too. Ugh.
