Remember I told you that Connie and I had a favorite new book? Well, Lissa Alexander has outdone herself with this one! It’s called “Oh, Scrap!” , published by Martingale. We love soooooo many quilts in this book including the cover quilt.

This is the first quilt that caught my eye.

I loved the colors but I knew I should make this quilt in more traditional colors for the spot I wanted to hang it.

Look how different it looks! I am not exactly thrilled with it – I think it’s BORING compared to Lisa’s but I wanted to show this to you as an example of a different color way. Mine is also smaller for the spot intended. I had 4 blocks left over which I put together for my table.

Reed has offered to do the handwork on the binding – yay!

Here are a couple more quilts from the book that I intend to make.

And there are more! Buy this book! If you’re only allowed to purchase one new book, make it this one! I know I need new fabrics for these quilts – but how do I get anywhere to shop? Lissa gives very complete instructions about picking and combining fabrics so if that scares you (and I know it does lots of people) she will guide you along to the perfect “scrap” quilt that isn’t made from scraps.

I also really enjoyed Barbara Brackman’s introduction about scrap quilts over the years.

Lissa and Martingale have a real winner here – Connie and I have big plans for making the quilts in this book. Here’s another one.

Please ignore the glare from the ceiling lights.

Well, it’s still snowing and it’s pretty warm out which the dogs love. They were just barking at something that might be under the garden shed so Hazel looked like this when she came in just a minute ago.

Yikes oh Pete!

Love reading your entries each time. Loved the goat gazette and missed it so but your email keeps me smiling. Thank you

How fun is that book !!! I sew with a group of like minded “scrappers” once a month, and we are going to use this book for our next projects. Glad it gets your approval.
Suzanne—–check your local quilt shop to order it for you, or Amazon, or Martingale

This book is my new favorite also. I knew I had to have the book as soon as I saw it on Martingale’s blog-so fun and I surely have lots of scraps! Mary, I like your version even if it is darker and more traditional.
I hate you’re getting so much snow-we’re still getting frost and below freezing temps here in SC. No garden planting yet, and always according to my Dad- it was supposed to be in the ground by Good Friday.

I thought it was that peas had to be planted by ST. Patrick’s day. Fat chance of that much of anywhere in the USA?

Brenda – both oats and potatoes should be planted on Goof Friday – not this year!

My copy of the book arrived last week: I agree it’s a winner! Still considering where to start….
Kind of you te be feeding the birds. My wild hedgehogs have finally woken up, and are making up for lost time in the eating department. I am heving to refill the feeder in the garden every day.

Hmmm. Looks like you got a new brown dog to play with Hazel–ha. Love those quilts. I like your darker colors. The red binding might brighten it.

Wish I were there, I LOVE doing the binding. My favorite part of the quilt.
Isn’t it funny how our pets love snow, mud and muck? Hazel looks like a commercial.

Oh, wow!! Our snow in Indiana (south of Indianapolis) have about given up — but the winds, kind of scary. But sure hope snow goes away for all and let spring really arrive. Funny, about the new quilt book. Just looked at an ad for it and trying to tell myself I don’t need another book — but you both say I do……

I like snow weather for sewing but what your having is over the top. Wow so sorry. You reach a point where your just sick of it. Here in the pacific nw things have been very rainy but now nice high 60’s on the way. Had my new clippers out for a try today. Alot of dead flower branches to trim. Buttercups blooming, their always so cute. May your days soon turn to 70 degrees. Love your new book!! 🌞🌞

Took a look at Miss Hazel and thought, OH SCRAP! Pepper got into some exposed ground today, too as things warmed up to a sunny 56 today. No new snow today!

Thanks for recommending the new Oh, Scrap book from Martingale.

We have had snow like that here too. I live in Montana. We got 7+ inches the last snow, now I can’t remember what day it was, but it is pretty much gone…not the old stuff…still about a foot left in many places, our ground is still white. As warm as it is yours should be gone soon, too!! Ours is sinking in so it isn’t as muddy as previous years!! PTL!
So many birds are back! The finches were singing this morning not just chirping!! I have many junco’s also. I filled one feeder this morning and they have emptied it now. The ground is covered so it is a good think they like to be on the ground. Mountain bluebirds are back, so their bright color is so nice to see, robins are scolding, I am thinking it is spring despite the snow. I put a thistle seed sock out about an hour ago…the finches are covering it right now!!
I like the quilt you just made…it looks almost Civil War with the colors you used.
Hang in there!! Spring is vey close!!

Beryl – speaking of birds, I had a yellow headed blackbird at my feeder. I had to look him up because I’d never seen one before!

Mary, I have seen one of those only once. It was when we lived on Leech Lake. They are pretty!

Felicia – I hope he comes back today – I’ll try very hard to get a picture!

That little Hazel is so cute……even dirty!!!! HAHAHA! I love scrappy but this book is like a controlled scrappy. Will have to check it out!

All I can say is ” Oh Yum!” Love the two you showed before the star quilt. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my! Little Hazel is sooooo full of energy and ambition! The peeks you show of the Oh Scrap book are so tempting!

Hope your snow is melting like ours. We have temps in the 50’s today. I was feeding the birds also. My husband said people were finding robins that perished in the snow and cold up in Green Bay. We had a beautiful myrtle warbler by our window. It looked totally lost in the snow and cold. At least there is open ground for the birds now. All the quilts from the book seem like they would be good choices to make. Hazel looks like she had a good time outside.
