I left the sewing room in real disarray – trying to organize and put things on the shelves so I can find them.
Scraps and small pieces – they multiply over and over because I don’t throw any away. That reminds me of the spring rummage sale weekend in the town of Garner. I’m going to join Sam in her driveway to get rid of a few things. This is NOT my end of life sale! I’m not selling the samplers or the pincushions for example so don’t misunderstand me. But I do have things that need to go. If you’re like me as soon as I get rid of a piece of furniture, I want it. But nevertheless, I’m starting to sort with the sale in mind.
Molly visited us today – she and Keeper really have a great time and it’s so good for Molly to get outside. Keeper enjoys the company.

Since I posted the pictures of all my old cross stitch samplers, I was wondering if you readers might have some old ones you’d like to photograph and send to me. I would just love to see them! It could be another episode of Points of Interest. I am hoping to see vintage cross stitch on printed fabric – not counted cross stitch which is totally different.

Too windy today compared to yesterday but still in the 40s. Tomorrow the forecast says we’re going to literally blow away. Guess I’ll have time to keep cleaning my sewing room, huh?
On Sunday at 12:30 the Iowa women basketball team will play USC in Iowa City, game time 12:30. During this game, probably halftime, Caitlin’s #22 jersey is going to be retired. I don’t want to miss it – just FYI in case you’re interested.
That’s it for tonight! Let’s see your vintage samplers!

Great idea when putting things aside for a garage sale to price them right away. That probably saves time in the end.
Barbara- is there a name for the first quilt of yours. What a great idea to use up scraps. Or if anyone else knows the name of the quilt, I do come back to see if anyone else has commented.
Well winter has decided to show up. Got our first snowfall. It was a little scary because we had heavy rains then it cooled down and snowed so the water below was ice. It’s a bit better today. We only got 3” but communities 20 minutes away got a foot and more.
Teresa – don’t fall down on that knee! That’s a lot of snow – none here.
Don’t worry Mary, I’m staying home. I don’t need to go out this week at all and if I need something my dh can get it for me. Thanks for the warning though. I’m so afraid of falling that’s why I’m staying home. Better safe than sorry.
hi mary and friends. you are such a great group of people. i have received so many wondrous cards and cards of all types. thank you so much. i’ve been sporadic in my looking on line. but i so enjoy seeing all the loving things you share. have really enjoyed your clean bill of health. i know that made you feel much better.
it seems the medical people just want to keep hurting me. i laughed and said that it felt like my bones were being crushed but that it what it seems like. they may have to come up with special clothing or furniture so i can lay down. thought we were dealing with very lower back but now it it the neck, whole center back and lower back. geesh! makes it hard to turn my head. guess i should be glad i’m not trying to stitch right this minute. i’ll stitch through the rest of you. keep sharing please.
i’m sorry i’m so disjointed right now. the pain meds make me loopy and i wonder just just degree of pain they are supposed to relieve. the lady who set the iv for the contrast fluid yesterday was great. didn’t leave a mark on me. didn’t hurt. no bruises. she was great! why can’t they all be like that. keep stitching, patti in florida
Patti. so nice to see your comments and an update on how you’re doing. I was hoping it would all be good news but, praying you will find some pain relief soon. Know that so many of us care and look forward to when your pain lessens and you’re able sew again. Take care .
Patti, so happy to hear from you. At least you had a tiny bit of good news for us. Know that we all care about you!
Patti – we’re all glad to hear from you but so sorry you’re not comfortable – except for that perfect IV. Wow, you’re right, why can’t they all be like that! We’ll keep sewing and showing you what we’re working on!
Beryl, your quilt is beautiful! I admire you for tackling something that looks so complicated to me. I would nope right out of that!
Sunshine, your baby quilt is just adorable. The soft colors and sweet little animals will delight a child. I love the little hippo:)
Barbara, what a great idea to use up bits and bobs. Both of your quilts are just so cheerful and bright. I love them.
Happy weekend everyone
I’m in Panama City Beach on vacation. We thought it would be a bit warmer than it is, but it’s warmer than back in SW Ohio! We have a condo right on the beach & have been able to walk on the beach several times. It’s not an easy beach to walk on as the sand is so fine. Yesterday was so windy we decided to make a trip to Walmart to pick up groceries. One of the nicest Walmarts I’ve been in! Groceries are much cheaper than other grocery stores. Love the beautiful quilts, & the fish sampler. Most of my samplers were gifts & I’m not sure I have pictures of them. Before I left Ohio I was working on a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt top for a friend at church. She suddenly lost her 52 yr old husband to a heart attack. I will finish that quilt for her after I return home on Feb. I stopped doing this type of work a year ago but felt compelled to help with this project. I’ve already finished 1 of 3 books I brought to read & I’m well into book #2! Even though it cool here I’m amazed at how much better my arthritis is here than at home! No meds for the pain!!
Alice – so windy here I cant even leave the dog door open! So we’re all prisoners in the house today. My arthritis has been bad lately and one reason is driving to Rochester and gripping the steering wheel for over 4 hours. Then my fingers do hurt. Connie and Roy left yesterday for Sanibel Island. Will it be warmer there? I have no idea. Don’t we all wish we had photographed all our work thru the years! I sure do.
We had about .5″ of rain yesterday for which we are thankful. We’ve had very little moisture this winter, and we will need it in the spring.
Loved all the quilts today. So many things I would like to make but so little time!
Have a great day, everyone.
All the reader photos are beautiful today. I especially loved Barbara’s scrappy flying geese. What a pretty way to use up a lot of scraps. Thanks everyone for sharing.
Beautiful quilts today. So glad to hear the good news from your Dr. appointment. Your sampler collection is perfect on your walls. I use to do some cross stitch but never any samplers. Very snowy & cold this weekend & last week, we are having an old fashioned winter!
Beautiful quilts!
Terrible windy and cloudy!
Our grandsons wedding was beautiful! No pictures yet! We r tired!
Really quiet in our house without family here. Miss them.
There is a parole absconded in the loose in our area. Yikes!
Went to Joann’s Fabric store in Colmbia, SC yesterday to use a Christmas $50 gift card my son gave me. It’s a challenge he presents to me each Christmas to buy enough fabric to make a complete quilt/wall hanging. I use the gift card, store coupons & sale fabric and have met the challenge each time. When I went to check out yesterday, the gift card was declined. The store manager said they don’t sell gift cards anymore and can’t honor the ones already bought because all Joann’s stores in the US’ are going out of business in February or March of this year. I called Joann’s corporate and they said I could still use the card online but their online inventory is rapidly decreasing. So if you have a gift card from them, use it ASAP. So glad to hear your prognosis Mary.
Barbara, Thanks for the heads up on Joann Fabrics. I hate to hear that they are going out of business. My go to place for lots of items. I was hoping declaring bankruptcy again wasn’t the end of them.
Barbara – I am not surprised to hear Joann’s is closing. Our store is horrible and I simply don’t shop there – fabric is so thin it’s almost see-through. Thankfully I don’t need to shop for fabric. Thanks for that important info!
Morning everyone!
Rita, I have made that same fish cross stitch picture! I just checked it and it was made and framed in 1987 by me for my husband who is a big fisherman.
And Jamie, thank you. Every morning when I let the chickens out, I pause by the lake and everyday it is beautiful. Even the foggy misty days. In this picture, the closest bit of water is a pond with the bridge to the right. It is spring fed and so the west end never 100% freezes. We get a lot of ducks there in the winter when most lakes are frozen. Behind the pond is a section of grass about 75 feet wide. This is where the large tent will be put up for my son’s wedding reception in July. And beyond that is Long Lake where you can see what looks like an open rectangle of water but is actually our ice hockey rink. The goal/net is on the dock currently because of the ice freezes and thaws and the net then can’t be moved! And to the right of the sun itself are the trees I often see eagles in. My bit of paradise!
Barbara and Beryl, I like your quilts! Off to the sewing room as my husband is out ice fishing. 🌻
Thanks Sunflower, you answered a lot of questions I had about the picture. Sounds like the wedding reception will be quite lovely.
Today I’m cleaning my sewing room also. Need to have it spotless before I start my Nieces wedding quilt. Kind of a mess in there right now because I did a renew of the family room. Paint, carpet, furniture and anything that wasn’t used, was shoved into the sewing room. And I do need to venture out to Fleet Farm for cat food and you KNOW I will leave there with more than cay food. lol
Windy today but at least it’s sunny! Goodbye January!
Diana – oh, Fleet Farm is dangerous for me – so many things I “need”!
Beautiful quilt show again today.
I agree that, the minute I get rid of something that I haven’t used in a long time, I start thinking that I should have kept it. Now, I pack stuff in my vehicle and head to the thrift store before I change my mind because most of the items I can do without.
Only 4 degrees this morning with predicted snow on the way. Long time before spring arrives in my neck of the woods.
Colorful quilts to admire this morning. Nice seeing so many talents shared.
I have one vintage linen cross stitch I will get a picture of on my wall and send you. It’s a winter wonderland outside this morning here even at 17. We had rain most of the day yesterday that turned to snow with a front that came through so we got about 5” sticking on all the branches and pine trees. Beautiful site and I’m thankful for the ground moisture so we won’t be dry in spring. There’s ice underneath so it’s a day to be inside cleaning my sewing room too. Sam will be thrilled with the extra foot traffic your wares will contribute to the garage sale. It was a good idea to partner together.
Mary, as you’re sorting through items and going to put on garage sale go ahead and price it as you’re doing this. Saves time in the long run. Get it priced, in a box and out to the garage or somewhere and then its already to go when the day comes for the sale.
Hi Tammy
That is wonderful advice for all of us planning garage sales this summer…thanks!
Tammi – good idea – my pile is relatively small right now so I could catch up.
Gorgeous quilts today, especially drawn to the colors in Beryl’s. Sunflower, your sunrise photo is beautiful. I’ll be checking back every few hours tomorrow for more eye candy and to close ads.
