I have two locations to read comments – one is very easy and on the same page that I post but the other is on my site and difficult to reach. However……I just looked at it now and there are many more comments on the site than on my “easy to reach” location. Now I’m wondering why? What comments or questions have you posted that I’ve missed? I have not be aware of the different location so evidently I’ve missed many. Ugh.
For those who are not aware of the Dirty Dozen game, here are the rules:
In December we pick 12 projects we want to finish or pick and make by the end of the upcoming year . We number them 1-12 and I pick a number from the jar for each month. The idea is to finish that particular project that month. This is incentive for you to finish. Then it’s really nice if you send me a picture of your project.
Here are the numbers picked already this year:

If you’re just joining us now, use the remaining numbers for your projects.
The Dirty Dozen number for May is FIVE – 5.
A reader suggested that Hank’s mom, MICHELE, would probably love a card after having back surgery for a ruptured disc last week. If you feel so inclined, here’s her address:
Michele Greiman, Hank’s mom
2380 – 225th St.
Garner, IA 50438

It’s gonna get cold tonite – glad I don’t have any flowers planted.

Hi Mary…Today I resubscribed to your blog with a new email address. I had to go several days without reading your truly fun and informative blog and I nearly had depression symtoms over it. Should be okay n ow though. And, yes….My best friend and I made May baskets. We would put the baskets on a porch, ring the door bell and then hide (and giggle) Do you think they were fooled. Such fun though.
Sue – so glad you figured it out – I tried and was going to try something else but I think it has to be done from the readers email address and computer.
Jeanine, I am lifting your daughter and son in law (and you!) in prayer for strength, courage and peace during their treatments and for healing! And praying for the doctors and caregivers, for God’s skill, wisdom and compassion.
Thank you Charlotte. We appreciate all the prayers we can get.
This is totally not on topic but I just read Caitlin Clark will have a children’s picture book out this fall based on her life. Naturally I thought of you and your interest in Caitlin.
Jean – yes! I will definitely look for it!
This is totally not on topic. Our newspaper says Caitlin Clark will have a children’s picture book out this fall based on her own life and I immediately thought of you and your interest in Caitlin.
Thanks again for the blog. It is such a joy to be a part of this group.
I have an update on my daughter and her breast cancer battle. She had a series of appointments in Sioux Falls, SD, on Thursday and Friday. It was a very long day for her, especially Thursday. She will have a port put in and will need to have chemo first for 20 weeks total, because of the lymph nodes they removed that had cancer. This will start on May 27 if all goes well. Then she will have 3-6 weeks of radiation and then 4-6 weeks hormone blockers. Then she will need 4-8 weeks to recover before reconstructive surgery. This journey will take over a year and there will be multiple doctor appointments, most of them being in Sioux Falls. They live 5 hours from Sioux Falls. It is a lot to deal with for them. And it is hard on us being so far away and not able to go and help them. All prayers are appreciated. Her huband is still getting treatments for cancer as well. We have placed them in God’s hands, as He knows best.
Thank you.
Jeanine – oh, yes, it will be a long year – maybe you should move there temporarily – that’s hard, too. If she’s getting treatments every day, will she stay in SF?
Mary – As of right now, these chemo treatments are one day a week. When she has radiation, that is five days a week, so not sure how that will work. My husband has leg and feet issues and needs me to be here. His balance is not good, and some days are worse than others. I am torn between what is the right thing to do.
Jeanine – oh man, I can see you’re caught between a rock and a hard place! At times like these, I always wish I lived where I could be of some help. Please keep us updated on both of your patients.
Thanks for the recap of DD numbers. The last three months my attention has been channeled on a different situation requiring my attention, so little quilting has been done. However, this weekend I hope to make a DD project dent. Is Mortie still checking our the cacti? Happy to send a card to Michele. 🙂
My sister and I also made May baskets when we were children. Being of Danish ancestry, we made woven paper baskets like those red and white Danish Christmas hearts, but used pastel-colored construction paper. We’d sneak up to the neighbor’s front door, hang the basket on the doorknob, ring the bell and run away.
Too bad you’ve been missing comments, Mary. I read the blog through the RSS reader Feedly, not via your email, so I go directly to the main blog page.
Hi Mary – I ‘m thinking that this is the easy site. Thanks for the update and the Dirty Dozen project finish game rules – good incentive! It’s a lovely Spring morning here – neighborhood efforts to “firewise” – meaning to cut back and remove limbs, etc and set out the debris to be picked up and sent to be chipped (which is a whole different set of problems here). Puppy Hank and mom photo so lovable!
We delivered May baskets to our rural neighbors when I was a child and my 2 kids did the same. It was always fun to make them & deliver. I have only seen a May Pole done at a festival. Will gladly send a card, she is a great mom to Hank and has been such a great friend to you when you needed some help. Had to cover our newly planted wildflowers for the past 3 nights, but its warming up so off come the covers. I started a new quilt with some of my stash fabrics and its more colorful than I normally do, but I like the cheerfulness.
Kim – what I remember about delivering May Baskets is you hung them on the door handle and knocked on the door. If the person caught you they kissed you!!! Imagine the horror!! Haha!
Chilly here, too, but didn’t get as cold as predicted.
Frost this morning again. No flowers planted here either. I feel sorry for neighbor covering her perennials. Hope they survive.
I am hoping to see my sewing room today. I have a lot on my agenda today and fighting the feeling I have to do this or that.
Fran – you got frost but we didn’t!
I usually comment after clicking on the Read on blog tab but this morning I will try this big blue comment tab which I never noticed. Old dog, new, trick! Winter coats on walkers, sweaters on dogs this morning, frost on the grass…I spent my childhood making May baskets and this year a group I belong to made 80 baskets for a homeless shelter with no flowers but candy and a supply of personal products. A friend asked me to make some quilted potholders so my scrap bins are getting a good workout.
Donna, What do you use as the “insulator” part of the potholders? I purchased something a year ago that was kind of crinkly and stiff. I don’t like it and wonder what you use.
Vicki, I have made potholders for our kids and I used a product called Insul-Brite, it reflects hot & cold back to its source. I also use it in my bowl cozies. Its machine washable and easy to find on Amazon or most quilt shops.
Thanks!
Donna – oh, that’s so kind to take May baskets to the shelter! Using up scrap bins is very rewarding!!
Morning Mary and all. I’ve written a comment and then when I hit post comment button it has vanished and not posted with the other comments. I think it went to your “other place”? So I try again and then a screen pops us asking if I’m a robot. But you know it’s all worth it to keep in touch with you and the others here.
I will surely send a get well message to Hanks mom. She was there for you when you needed it and kindness like that is not forgotten even through all these miles. When we can’t be there, she has shown up.
I wish her a speedy recovery.
Kathy – so kind of you to send a card! Yes, she has gone the extra mile for me and I won’t forget it as has Bob who along with Marline has driven me to Mayo on an emergency basis. The technology behind the blog is a mystery to me – I’ll just do the best I can and keep my fingers crossed – I’d hate to lose touch with all of you.
Yes, May Day baskets were delivered to my mom’s friends and my 4 great aunts who lived across the street from us! The big deal was the winding of the May Pole at school that took place with beautiful colored cotton bunting in all the spring colors and the crowning of the May Day Queen!

I delivered May Baskets as a kid and as an adult. When my three sons had outgrown delivering baskets to my mom’s friends, I did it. It brought so much joy!
Jeanie – I wish I had thought about May baskets last week! I’m marking my 2027 calendar right now!!
Hmmm, I wasn’t aware there was a different place to post comments, I always post here. It’s already cold here in SW Ohio. I only have geraniums on my porch & I just covered them to make sure they don’t freeze. We’re expecting frost tonight & tomorrow night. I’m hoping to finish my #10 tomorrow. Just too much going on in April. I won’t start May #5 until # 10 is finished. Ron had surgery for skin cancer on his face & I’ve been his nurse. Drs don’t stop to think about the patient who lives alone & can’t see the area to clean it, add medication, & bandage. Friday was such a beautiful day! Boots & I went for a brisk walk. He certainly enjoys his walks & it’s good for both of us. I will be happy to send a card to Michele. Thanks for posting her full name & address. I sure hope she has a full recovery.
Alice – you’re right, drs don’t think about all those directions when the patient gets home – Ron is lucky to have you – and you can quote me! Haha!
Alice, just wondering what part of Ohio do you live in as I am from Dayton. Mary, I would be happy to send Michele a card. As someone who has walked the back pain road I pray this surgery ends her pain.
Susan, I live near Maineville & can sit on my front porch & watch Kings Island’s fireworks during the summer!
How fun, Alice. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to King’s Island.
Susan – thank you so much! I believe Michele will now be pain free – she loves to mow lawn but probably won’t get to do that this summer.
Mary, Just to say thanks for ALL the effort you put forth daily to create your blog that so many of us count on and enjoy. For those of us that live alone. It is a connection to others, what someone is working on, who needs cheering.keeping us updated on who, what. And where of your world. Today is May Day, Happy May Day everyone. L
Karen – did you deliver May Baskets when you were a kid? We did!!
And….you’re welcome!!!
