Thanks to Jane who pointed out my typo which is really important! You are trimming away the 8″ circle – not the 6″ circle you just added. I have to think this was a typo and I hope you understood what I meant. I’m so sorry! Blame my old fat fingers, OK?
Good catch…your pictures made it pretty clear what you intended to say!!
Mary….I have just completed and cut out one block with the 6-inch circle sewn on. I cut out the back of the 6-inch circle because otherwise, I don’t think it would be right. I already cut all 48, 8-inch circles in step 1. Now I am ready to cut 16 more with the 6-inch circle sewn, but I am afraid to because of the 8-inch instruction. Could you please reinstruct us about this? Thanks
Sue – follow me – step one you were actually trimming away the 9” background/foundation fabric. This step you should be trimming away the 8” circle – the very first one you sewed, right? If you were trimming away the 6” circle you just added, there would be a hole all the way through your block. Please let me know you understand me.
Okay….I get it. Just a matter of which side you are looking at when you trim. I have no holes in my block. HaHa.
Mary and friends,
I went to the jail today and instructed the girls on the pattern… I told them to cut the circles and “just slap it on” . Did they have fun with that. Some of their circles looked more like a heart…how, I do not know. Others were more rectangles with rounded corners, but they slapped it on. The sewist were busy, then the next one in line cut the top fabric out instead of the back fabric. Oh well. By the end of the session all was going as the pattern intended. Actually it was fun. I wish I could take pictures.
To those of you who sent boxes and gift cards, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
To those of you who did not include your name and address, this is the only way I can thank you…but it is from the bottom of my heart.
Some of my circles looked like apples so now I don’t feel so bad since the reference to squash made me laugh. Like others have said too, this is way out of my comfort zone of raw edges, no piecing, etc. but I have to admit I am enjoying the freedom of this sewing that I don’t want it to end. I don’t think this will be my last Bulleyes quilts. It was 48 here yesterday and now we might get some snow moving in.. We only have had 28” this season so far so looking forward to snuggling in.
