The cortisone shot I got in my shoulder yesterday has taken away all the pain and stiffness! We all know those shots can work miracles – for a time. I’ve had them before, too, and have not deluded myself into thinking my problem is fixed. I’m going to enjoy these pain free days/weeks.
BUT….it was such a nice day here I took Mollie, Keeper and Hazel to the grove where we were able to tromp our way to the garden. It’s great leg exercise to tromp through heavy wet snow banks.
Tonight I’m still working on 5” basket blocks.

I’m going to start making multiple identical blocks so it will go faster.
This will make you smile – Mortie in a pan!

Do not panic and think I used this pan before washing it. I really shouldn’t even have to say that…. But I’m saving a step.
That’s all I got.

I want to kiss that Morty face!! Wouldn’t it be fun to see Morty and Minnie have a play date?
Linda – YES! Although Mortie is bigger and would likely win. How are the donkeys? Are you still buried under snow? And please tell me how Don is.
I have been following your blog for years and so enjoy the photos of all the pets. I lost my kitty several months ago and thank you for your kindness to those who need your help. Sorry for you shoulder issues and wanted to share a procedure I had which is so much better than cortisone. It is PRP and blood is taken then the platelets spun out and injected into the injury. Your own cells are used in the healing. I had this done on my lower back and went from slowly walking up stairs to running up stairs. It isn’t nearly as damaging as cortisone. The chiropractor I go to uses this option as he treats athletes at the local universities. I highly recommend.
Suzanne – that sounds interesting!! I will look into it and also ask my chiropractor. Will you get another kitty? I have always said no more kittens but that decision was taken away when Mortie arrived without notice – ha!
Mary, I just spoke to someone last week who had PRP for their hip. Previously they had cortisone shots and he said it was night and day the difference. He’s waiting for a hip replacement and said now he is pain free.
Teresa – I’m going to look into this!!!! Anything to avoid surgery
Glad that you are feeling better!
Test number two
Yay!!! By George, I think we’ve got it!! Thanks for hanging in there – now tell me what you’re doing these days!
Test
Got it, Mary!!
I am so glad the shot helped relieve your pain. Even if it’s not permanent.
Mortie is a cutie.
My granddaughter has gone up north to go to school till May. Her cat, Gus, is staying with me for these months. Will have to see how I handle it if I let him have the run of the house while I try to sleep. Ha ha
So glad the cortisone shot helped with your pain and discomfort. I think this kind of shot is a miracle worker. I have had two and sure am thankful for the pain relief I have.
That is an adorable picture of Mortie. Love the look on her face.
I mentioned in the comments this morning that I was taking a primitive rug hooking class today. Just wanted to update and say I loved it. Yes. Mary, it is done with narrow wool strips. I always admired the primitive rug look and, it was a fun class. I chose a small project to start with and nearly finished it in class. I will definitely continue with the craft.
Connie – I have all the supplies and I still don’t do it. Can’t wait to see yours.
So glad you’re feeling better, hope it lasts a good long while. Mortie is adorable and I look forward to her daily pictures. She seems to have fit right in to the household. I lost my 19 year old orange boy about a year ago and have decided it’s not time for a pet right now, so I take pleasure in others’ photos and videos.
My sister suffered a heart attack about 5 minutes after arriving to my home on Christmas day; thankfully her hospital experience was better than some I’m reading about here and she’s healing, though there may be serious surgery in her future. We won’t know for a few months. She and I are both quilters and I’m hoping we’ll continue to share that for many more years. My 94 year old mom is also a quilter and continues to create every day.
I don’t often comment but I do love reading what you and your readers have to say so will try to share more often.
Becky – I’m relieved to hear your sister did not succumb to her heart attack – goodness, what a Christmas surprise. And your mom is still quilting at 94? Well done, you family of quilters!
Mortie is so photographic, keep on posting them. I lost my Orange cat this past summer, so she kind of reminds me of him.
love the cat photos
It must be nap time for me. I just saw Erin’s comment about Mortie and read “sweet photo” as SWEET POTATO! My husband has a poster of a Kliban cat in his shop (I wouldn’t let him hang it in the house). It says C-a-t, often mistaken for a loaf of bread. Little Mortie in the pan is much cuter than the cartoon cat. Take care, everyone. Kris in WI.
Mary
I’m praying for your shoulder.
I have been in hospital since 12/26. Finally home but weak. Shall we talk about nurses and hospitals? Terrible.
Please thank all who sent me cards over Christmas and last year. Now I just need prayers to get well..again.
Thank you for your blog
Sherry W in IOla tx
I tried to send you an email but I guess I couldn’t get it to work.
Sherry I am so sorry to hear about your hospital experience. Very Unfortunately that’s the story for most hospital visits these days. I think they are so insurance driven they totally don’t care about patient care. I have 4 RN’s in my family who say they are leaving that profession because of the regulations that are in place, and they were taught not patient care but how to input on the charts. No one is being taught to actually give hands-on care to a patient. I asked a nurse one time to please straighten out my bedsheets while I used the restroom. She refused. Just totally unconcerned that the sheets were falling on the floor. I will pray for you. God bless you and help you to recover at home. I pray you have help there now. God bless!
This may get deleted as too much of a rant….that’s ok. It’s all TRUE!
Helen – deleted by who? Not me! I was in the hospital twice in the past year and I’ve got horror stories to tell, too.
Sherry – I am so sorry to hear you’ve been hospitalized again – same issue? No, I hate to hear distressing stories about hospital stays. I lived thru two of them in the past year. Take it easy and let me know how you’re doing
i’m so glad the shot helped you. I have arthritis and had shots in both knees a few years ago and literally almost, “climbed the walls” for 3 days! Terrible hives with itching, no sleep, having to urinate all day and night, just terrible reaction. And I couldn’t tell it helped my pain at all. At 83, nothing much helps me. I will never take cortisone again. You’re blessed to be able to use it as it does help with most pain.
Mortie is adorable! Your quilt will be just gorgeous I’m sure. We’ve fought a little bug, just enough to feel bad, for 2 weeks now. HOping it’s on the way out!
Daughter had shoulder surgery before Christmas and did great. Limited in activity for 2 weeks but with her sling she managed our family party and other activities. Doing good now. Praying yours will be the same. God bless you and your sweet animals!
👏👏👏🍾🎉🎉🎉🎉😀 so very glad the shot is helping. That is NOT a license to climb the ladder!! It IS permission to do more sewing. Take advantage of that.
It’s snowing. Not heavy yet, but if it’s goina be this cold, snow is certainly welcome.
Jo – ha! I sure wish I hadn’t posted that I was on the ladder – I’ve been scolded for sure!😂
Hi Mary,
I’m glad you’re feeling better but feel I must contribute some advice. I had a serious rotator cuff and bicep tear repair surgery 3 years ago. Do it now , get it over with, so you can avoid a sling during the summer months…….
So glad you are getting relief now even tho it will gradually wear off. You can get another one in 3 months!! Hopefully it will get c better. Love your little blocks. I’m making binding for a quilt that been laying around for 6 months. Have a good day!
Love Mortie. She is a very special soul.
Mary, so glad that cortisone shot is giving you some much needed relief. I hope you can now get some sleep. I agree that Mortie is simply the cutest & she has the sweetest personality! We’ve been enjoying warmer than normal temps here in SW Ohio, but that all changes on Sunday when the temps take a nose dive again! All Christmas is put away, but leaving my “wintery” quilts out a few more months. The flu is really bad in this area, too. Yesterday my sweet neighbor next door was taken by life squad to the hospital. His son had been staying each night & in & out during the day for a week. Marvin is 96 & just wasn’t getting better. He has pneumonia. This is the same neighbor we take Christmas food to & he declined this year as he was a ” bit under the weather”! Even though the cortisone shot is a temporary relief, maybe it will start the healing & no surgery will be required. Take care, Mary.
Alice – so sweet of you to take food to your neighbor – pneumonia was the end for my mom. Old people just can’t seem to fight it – very sad for you, him and his son who sounds like a wonderful man to not forget his dad.
Mary, in this neighborhood we have many who are either single or have lost their mates. Those that still drive eat out a lot, & some have food delivered. I’m sure my neighbor fixes mostly soup & sandwiches. He said he hates to cook & on holidays I always have plenty of extra food…so why not share it! It gives him something different to eat for 3-4 days. My neighbor has the best son, he has always checked on him daily. I pray he recovers from this! We all just love him!
Oh Mortie! She makes me laugh ever time! So cute!
I’m so happy your cortisone shot helped! Maybe I should try that on my hip!?
Heading to the dentist today.
Suppose to have a title moisture today. Yesterday spoiled us with lovely sunshine and 50!
Joy – what are you waiting for if you have a sore hip? Oh, I feel so much better – even if it’s temporary. I slept so good last night – I read late to finish my book which I’ll talk about because it was good. Go get the shot!
A couple of years ago I had an issue with a little muscle in the small of my back – constant pain when standing, sitting, no flexibility, couldn’t bend over. Went to MD and she told me get used to it – arthritis! I asked her about getting massages or the chiro and she said won’t hurt, but won’t help. So I went to the chiropractor. Pain gone first trip – took a couple more realignments to get that muscle to relax. Then he took care of my almost frozen shoulder and my knees. All with adjusting just the spinal discs. I certainly don’t pooh-pooh chiropractors anymore. I go monthly for a “tune-up” to take care of little problems before they become big. I’m in my 8th decade with all my original parts, in no pain.
My house is decorated with boxes – just the right size for the cat to snuggle into. Every cat I’ve had loves boxes – especially shoe boxes. I had an orange kitty – she was petite too. Don’t overdo – don’t want to tear that shoulder any more. We had 60 for a high yesterday – on Jan 7 in central Iowa!!!
Linda – I can’t say enough about my chiropractor, Todd. He has walk in hours which is perfect because he’s close to Fareway. I walk up the steps slowly going in and with a couple of pushes and pulls I skip down the steps after. I swear by him and so wish Rick would agree to go but he’s the most stubborn man I’ve ever known and won’t – so let him suffer, I say. So glad you brought up the subject of chiropractors – those who don’t believe they need one are crazy.
Mary and Linda, I agree on the limp in and leap out from the chiropractor ! My dear husband suffered terribly last winter from a malady in his upper right side of his back. He could get up for only a short time, most comfortable flat on his back. I finally convinced him to go to the chiropractor, and he has done well. He had an MRI and they could not find anything. Thank goodness for chiropractors, we would be in a way worse world of hurt without them!
So happy to hear a success story for your pain!!
The fresh air this time of year feels so good to be out in. We are in the gradual warmer days too and then back to more normal temps next week. Snow melt has gone into the ground so that’s good for our moisture in spring and summer.
I’ve been prioritizing projects so a lot of moving and rearranging in my sewing room which is needed to thin out a few I will donate. Course when I go to the donation place, I always browse and buy more to support them but if that’s my fun, it’s cheaper than a gambling or drug addiction.
Kathy – and I always say – it keeps me out of the bars and bowling alley! Haha! Such cheap clean fun. I’ve found thrift store shopper reels on Facebook and it’s almost as good as going in person!
Mortie is absolutely the cutest. I am glad you are enjoying some pain free time. Hoping it last a good long time.
Glad to hear you’re having relief from your pain, even if it’s a temporary fix. Sounds like you’re taking advantage of your pain free time.
Mild weather predicted here today. It’s 32 degrees now . I’m taking a beginners primitive rug hooking class today. I’ve always wanted to learn how and, decided to finally give it a try. Kind of a New Year’s resolution.
Connie – is this rug hooking with narrow wool strips? Time consuming but so beautiful! Let us know how it goes.
Well so glad you are getting some relief, just go slow.. love seeing Mortie, what a sweet kittie.
Have a much better day. Look so forward to your post each and every day, thank you
Maggey
Margaret – and I look forward to hearing what you gals are up to!
Those basket blocks will make such a lovely quilt. Those pieces look awfully small! I can hardly wait to see your finished project! Mortie in a pan is such a sweet photo. She cracks us all up.
So glad you feel better and were able to get out with the dogs. A walk in the woods always warms the heart. And Mortie! Such a cute face❤️❤️❤️
Glad the cortisone is giving relief. You have recipes by Mortie. What are you making? I am struggling for food prep ideas🤦🏼♀️. Glad you can piece a few more gorgeous blocks.
Marcia – The first thing I did as I began to read Mary’s blog this morning was stand up and lean over from the left to see if I could read the recipe on that purple index card!!! She’s making homemade vanilla ice cream and Grandma Andy’s Swedish Puff (whatever that is, an apple pie?).
And yes, I did copy down the recipe for homemade ice cream. I have an old hand crank ice cream maker that hasn’t been used in about 30 years. Maybe some homemade ice cream will happen today…
Ruth – what a good idea – ice cream. While my shoulder is good I could crank! I’ll post those two recipients. Swedish or Danish Puff is to die for and if I make it, I eat it all. Rick doesn’t think it’s special
So happy for you & your shot and that you could enjoy a walk with the pups! Oh Silly Mortie. More than a smile here, an out-loud giggle!
Mary – Mortie is such a sweet little girl. Glad she got through the surgery also glad your shot is helping you with the pain even if it’s just for a while.
Not much is going on with me. I am cleaning and putting away Christmas decorations.
I’ve had the crud since December 26th. I’m finally feeling better. I had to get antibiotics. The cough is still hanging on so I’ll be glad when that’s gone!
Take care everyone. And happy new year to you Mary and to all who read this blog.
Sharon G – is your crud the flu? I guess it’s rampant in town here. Lay low – gosh, you’ve been sick for almost 2 weeks!!!! So sorry!
So glad that shot is helping even if it’s not a permanent fix.
Mortie is so adorable, she reminds me of my Oliver another orange cat who has to check out every container I have out. I just planted some winter sowing containers and have them in a tote that he sat on for half a day!
FYI: I found the eyeglasses aka potholder instructions. In clearing out some things I located them at Word Press. It was after Gift sewing and being able to duplicate them for friends and neighbors BUT they can know they will get them for Valentines or Just Because Gifts.
Mortie in a pan! Oh what a cutie.
Not much happening here on this cold, drizzly day. A bit of sewing, and the housecleaners came. Nothing better than a clean, wonderful smelling house that I didn’t spend hours working on. Though our grandson will be here tomorrow to undo it all! 😆
Even tho it is temporary, I am happy to hear the pain is gone for now. I love the picture of Mortie in a pan, so cute!
I worked on putting away the indoor Christmas decor. I enjoyed it but will be glad when we are back to boring January.
Thanks for the blog. 🥰
Am so happy to hear you have had a pain-free day! Hope it lasts a long while and that you can get some restorative sleep. Just don’t over-do it!
We’ve had pretty mild weather for this time of year. 20’s-30’s early and then into mid 40’s-50’s with sunshine. Then it rains for a while. The wind has been pretty constant which makes it feel colder.
Was working on quilting my #12 DD but it’s not turning out as I want it to. I’ll be taking it out and will start over in the next day or so.
Mortie is such a sweet little girl. You lucked out when she showed up. I assume she’s healing well from her surgery.
Take care of yourself cuz you’re the only you we have!
Just gotta love that little girl, Mortie. She is so cute and doesn’t even know it! We are getting warmer weather for a few days, low 60’s on Thursday, then it will get cold again on Sunday. I am hoping to send a photo of a quilt I made for my husband. Maybe I already sent it? Who knows? I am working on cleaning OUT-like the Swedish Death cleaning and putting things in boxes for a yard sale this Spring. Our garage looks like “Hoarder City”–lol.
Take care of your shoulder and arm, Mary. It is no fun to be without a limb. I hope everything works out and yes, those Cortisone shots do help.
