Flower Displays, 7-24-25

These photos came from a reader in Lynden, WA – this Dutch community must all work together to maintain these beautiful displays.

Wasn’t that fun?

I went to Thursday On Main tonight – this was a sparse crowd.

Until the band started – The Kraft Bros

And my favorite little Porsche was there again.

This little guy was there again, too.

From the Faribault County Fair in Blue Earth, MN:

Just gorgeous!

Another signature quilt

Friends are wanting to share cucumbers and I do love homemade hot dog relish but hate the mess to make it. That will be on my list of chores this weekend – another funeral to play for Saturday morning. And then there’s the mowing.

This quilt measures 42” x 42”.

The quilts at the Blue Earth fair are amazing. I wish our county had that many and quality. This display looks more like what you would see at the state fair.

Good luck on the pickle relish.

Hank’s Mom – so what are they doing that our fair needs to do?

Just now getting around to reading everything on the blog about nothing. I’ve been busy in the garden, onions are done for the year. I when to buy corn( I don’t grow that) it’s pretty cheap $6.00 a dozen or 3 dozen for 15.00.
I love all the flowers, I’m thinking of doing a flower garden next year. So many beautiful quilts, so many talented people.

Wow , I bought a bakers dozen of corn for 15.00 on Friday. That’s the price here or much higher. We sure enjoyed the feast we had. There is nothing like fresh corn on the cob. The quilts are beautiful.

Love the flower displays in WA. I’m amazed at the community support.
Speaking of Dutch communities, Zeeland Michigan is such a place. I just love it. So clean. My husband and his family is buried there. I know that cemetery will always be well kept. My husband’s tradition was to go on Memorial Day with his brother and put flowers on the graves. Now my son-in-law does it on his father’s grave. It does my heart good. Also many towns in Michigan plant petunias in the tree lawn all through the town. Beautiful!!
Love the quilt display. That farm animal one must be a similar one of the dog blocks you showed us, Mary.
I’m glad you had fun at the Kraft Bros concert. Good weather.😀

Carolyn – yes, I think the farm quilt is by the same gal as the dog quilt I wanted to make – but I’m just not smart enough to figure out the pattern. Sheesh!!!

Those flowers are beautiful and the quilt show was just my style, cozy and not cutting-edge. My favorite car was the sharp-angled orange one. But the thing I liked best was the signature quilt with its scrappy blocks and plenty of room to write. Hope everybody has a good weekend and stays cool.

Mary, do you have room in your garage for that little black Porsche? I think RED needs a playmate!😂
The flowers in Lynden, WA are lovely and the quilts at the fair are fabulous.
Thanks to everyone for sharing the photos. Have a great weekend!

  6. Brenda in Georgia

Wow, what amazing flowers, almost hard to believe they are really real. What a great post. thanks so much.

What beautiful flowers! I would love to visit that town. Many years ago when we went to Alaska on vacation I was amazed at how beautiful their flowers were. Loved looking at all the beautiful quilts, too. I’m assuming these are on display at your fair, Mary? This week we’re dog sitting at the lake with the owner’s dog while they’re on vacation. Boots & Preston are getting a long pretty well. Preston is 6 or 7 & not used to a frisky 1 yr old pup who wants to play with him & run zoomies! A spray bottle has worked amazingly well settling Boots down! Believe it or not, I did manage to get all the blocks made for a Quilt of Valor for a friend of ours from Panama City Beach, FL. Ron & I will present it to him when we see him & his wife at Parris Island, SC at the end of Aug. James is a retired career Marine.

Wonderful visions of beauty in al sorts of genres the last few days. Farmer Tim = what an example of resilience! I hope he has a bumper crop this year. Your jokes have been fantastic – always bringing a smile. Keep hydrated all.

Charlotte said it well…we just visited three states through your blog post. Wonderful pictures. Loved looking at each of them twice and I want to go back and study those fair quilts again. Vibrant colors.
Yesterday we got caught up in Buffalo Bills training camp traffic and I thought that was a big deal. For once you don’t mind sitting in traffic just watching all the hub bub of Bills Mafia. It’s nice to see such happy people cause sports casters and the players are also out and about in restaurants and stores and pause for pictures.

My husband has relatives in Lynden and we were there for a family reunion, absolutely amazing the way they can grow flowers and the orchards were wonderful.
Have you ever had a pattern for any type of signature quilt, Mary?

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Margie – I don’t think we’ve ever made a signature quilt pattern. Let me know when your book arrives.

    Love the little horse joke!!

The flowers are fabulous! I know from a garden center they keep flowers blooming because they water daily with a lite mix of soluble fertilizer. I have tried that but mine still get leggy and then if I cut or pinch them off they look horrible and end up dying. I don’t have the green thumb I used to have because my darn back has prevented me from doing any gardening.

The quilts are beautiful. I had the chance to go to Sisters Oregon years ago to see all the quilts hanging all over the town, it was fabulous.

Stay cool, which means stay in air conditioning. It was around 105 here yesterday with the heat index, only saving grace was wind. Today it isn’t supposed to be quite as hot but the humidity feels like a steam bath when you walk out the door.

    Blessings everyone,, take care

My husbands family is Dutch. My father in law creates the most beautiful flower arrangements, and has several gardens that he maintains meticulously all year round. It’s really beautiful. Did you know that it is customary in Holland to bring flowers when you go visit someone? So when our friend went to see his mom for Sunday supper, he brought flowers each week. It’s not unusual to have three or four bouquets in the house.

What a great post today! Those flowers are a feast to the eye as well as the quilts! Wow. Thank you for sharing.

WOW! Such beautiful flowers in WA, beautiful quilts in MN and cool cars in IA. I’ve been in 3 states tonight! Love this blog. And love the ending joke!!

Quilts, flowers, cars, who could ask for more? And a puppy to boot! An embarassment of riches. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Martha W in WY

Beautiful flowers in Washington! And the fair quilts are amazing. Thank you for brightening my evening.

  17. Christine in AZ

Love your ending joke! 😆 And all the fair quilts are beautiful – such a treat to see.
I have to admit I love that little Porsche and the amphibious car. I used to live in Poway, CA and on weekends we would take a lunch and watch the old amphibious cars drive into Miramar Lake and motor around. It was so cool. Can’t believe that was nearly 40 years ago. Needless to say I identify with your card: “you old lady, you old lady, you old lady you! “
