Good Morning, 12-4-24

Ema came to my house to teach me how to post videos so this is a test. I would love to do this but it would have to be without a video – duh, since my hands are busy!

Please give me some feedback. Later today I have a very special post about an upcoming 95th birthday!

Enjoyed the piano solo! Hope you enjoy the Fairlife Protein Drink Samples I sent. I love the chocolate when ice cold. Happy Recovery & Merry Christmas.

Liz – OH MY GOSH! I had convinced myself I had ordered them myself while in the hospital – haha! One night I entertained myself online – I think I spent about $500! Many Christmas gifts but other stuff, too.
Yes, I think it’s quite good – very cold and I can drink it right from the bottle. I’ve had two so far. And thank you!!!

  2. Kelli in NE Ohio

Absolutely love it Mary!! Your playing is beautiful and really blessed me! Everything came thru loud and clear and I loved looking around your house and out the windows!

Hope you are feeling a bit better every day! Stay snuggly warm and share a blanket with Hazel 😁🐕

  3. Sue H

I love listening to you play the piano. I’m going to save this one and play it again later. I played it for my 91 year old mother and she loved it too. She & her mother (my gramma) both played the piano well too. Thank you for the video!

  4. Carol at Pin Oak Quilting

Impressive, Mary! But not as impressive as how you are coming along after your horrendous stint in the Hospital of Nasty Nurses! Your in-hospital reports were so sad, knowing you were really suffering and the staff was not 100% appreciative of your pain and thirst.
I’ve been enjoying your blog, a lot of reading, not as much responding. It’s been a bit rough settling my mother’s estate and facing these first holidays, I’m working hard to get my mojo back. Just about there!
Well, Buffalo NY is in the news again weather-wise. While we did not get ten feet of snow over one weekend as we have other years, winter came in with a roar in the last week with heavy snow, high winds and “feels like” temps in single digits. Time to hibernate!

    1. Kathy in western NY

Carol, so good to read your comment as I’ve been thinking of you, as you might have seen so was Betty K.
It is hard losing family whether it’s pets or a human and going on without them is a struggle. Holidays bring on memories of past moments that can’t be duplicated and we try our best to move on. I think that’s why our long list of sewing projects help us to keep motivated so I hope you’ll get back into the groove soon.

Just saw your post and video! Like everyone else, it was perfect! Your talent at the piano is only surpassed by your patchwork and quilting skills. Thank you for sharing so much of your life with all of us Mary.

  6. Jane - Blaine, MN

What a wonderful treat to hear you playing the piano so beautifully! And the video was great! Thank you so much. Continued healing 🙏.

  7. Sue McG in California

Mary, I loved the video and hearing you play the piano was an extra special touch.
Country Threads Chicken Scratch is my favorite blog and I look forward to reading it every day. I hope that each day finds you feeling stronger and more comfortable.
BIG hugs from a faithful reader!

  8. Linda K

Just wonderful! I figured you may be up to playing. It has to be wonderful as you listen to the wind howling outside! Stay cozy and keep on playing!

  9. Kris in WI

Oh, Mary, that was delightful! So happy you were up to the lesson in recording and posting. I sang along while you played (and while doing the dishes later) and recognized a few of the little planters that are in my collection, too. I’m catching up on a few days of the blog and this was such a treat, though the quilts, pets, and decor ideas from readers are always welcome. Now I’m going back to make sure I didn’t miss anything! Prayers for healing and strength continue. Kris

Enjoyed the brief video w/,music “…peace on earth, goodwill to men.” (Can never remember titles). Hope you can have a little fun posting videos sometimes, maybe Keeper and Hank rasslin’!
So glad to know you’ve been up and about a little bit, and pray that all the followup is good news.

RS – I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day – I’m learning how to record piano and upload. Bear with me as I continue to test.

  12. Angie from Baltimore

It worked wonderfully. I have my card ready to go just let me know the particulars and off it will go.
Not sending out Christmas cards like I used to but love sending cards of support end endearment

    Stay steady with your recovery

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Beryl – I actually thought about Miss Benzler as I was working at this. Yes, she would be proud especially of the fact that 50 years since I quit lessons I’m still playing. That meant a lot to me, Beryl, that you would remember her.

  13. Marian in Minnesota

Oh Mary, I listened to your video many times. I had to catch everything that you gathered. I loved it. Made my day. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Don’t you just love all the people who posted on your blog/video.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Marian – yes, I do love the fact that so many enjoyed it and I’m going to keep learning.

  14. Libby C in SC

Yes! video and audio accompaniment came thru clearly. Lovely to hear you playing! Thank you!

    1. Cindy from Minnesota

I agree as well, it was so nice to have a video and hear your music and lovely collections as well! I hope you continue to post videos! Today I drove to Walnut Grove and took a make-a-card class, actually we made six cards!, I enjoy the projects and the wonderful teacher that assists us in our projects! This will be a monthly activity for sure.

  15. Another Shirley in Oregon

Absolutely lovely! And so glad you’re feeling better. Nothing like being at home surrounded by those you love.

  16. Marty from Scottsdale

Great video and really loved your piano interlude! I played it for my husband and told him this is Mary playing! BTW, your windows are crystal clear. Just a lovely scene outside.

  17. Nancy Foland

Great seeing video of your place . I love the view of the barn from the house. I’d just sit all day and look out. That’s what I do on our farm on these cold days

  18. Mary Howland

Trying again as I don’t see my comment. I use an iPad. I didn’t get any video. Only written words.

    1. Cindy from Minnesota

Mary, try going back to the picture again, the video did not start immediately. I also have an iPad.

  19. Saundra jones

Beautiful video. I could see it on your blog. It did not have a place for me to click on the email sent. Don’t know if it was even suppose to. Good luck and enjoy your holidays. Happy healing.

  20. Fabie

Un petit bout de vie américaine pour moi la petite française… C’était délicieux. Merci

    1. Cindy from Minnesota

I did a Google Translate…. A little piece of American life for me, the little French girl… It was delicious. Thank you

Dean – it’s a Hoya -but a rare species. I’ve had it for about 25 years. It doesn’t grow much and it’s not even very attractive but it’s still doing well.

  21. Debby Krzyston

Hi Mary, Your video was great! I am looking forward to seeing more videos.
    Debby, from SE Wisconsin

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Gloria – wish I could play a longer piano solo and not just a simple hymn but then I’d have to learn YouTube, too, and I just don’t think I can!

      1. Cindy from Minnesota

Mary,I believe you can learn YouTube! Sometimes, we just need someone to help us just like you had help today doing a video! Give it the ‘old college try’, and never say never!

  22. Li

Solid hit here Mary. I heard the piano and suddenly realized, on my gosh Mary is playing for us. Thank you for a cheer today.

  23. Caryn in Eastern Washington

The video was so enjoyable and I loved your piano playing. So glad you are starting to feel better. Prayers for a complete and speedy recovery. Thank you to Ema too!!

  24. Frances E

Your playing was the perfect accompaniment to your video. You know they say that undertaking new skills is a sure sign of success against dementia. Therefore, congratulations on taking on a new skill. You have so many subjects in your house and barn that you’ll never be boring, not to mention sleeping cats and dogs! So glad you’re feeling better. Keep plugging.

  25. Nancy Poole

It worked great. Loved hearing you play and the video of your home. Looking forward to more. So glad you’re feeling better.

  26. Jan i AZ

Video success on the blog, but not the email. No worries! I sang along with. You have a nice touch on the piano, musical phrasing, and selection. Thank you.
    Jan

  27. Sheila in WI

Yup! The video came through beautifully. Perfect selection of music. Thank you for being willing to step out of you comfort zone and try something new. You are amazing!
And so glad you are feeling better. Just think of the progress you’ve made in one week!!!

  28. Deb from Iowa

Your video was a success! Beautiful piano playing, a view out your window, and a look at your collectibles. Great content. Had to watch it twice. So glad you’re feeling better and up to the challenge of making a video. Look forward to your next production.

    1. Jeanne in Co.

Oh Mary, that was just lovely, both the video and your beautiful piano playing. Thank you so much. The church I go to here in Co. only has guitar playing and I miss hearing the good old hymns being played on piano or organ like they were at my church in Iowa. The video of the farm yard brings back more Iowa memories of visits to your quilt shop, always a fun trip. Thanks for that too. Hopefully you will treat us again soon with more videos and more music. Thankful you are doing so much better this week as you continue recovery. Just when I thought your blog couldn’t get any better – It Did. God bless you for all you do. Jeanne in Co.

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jeanne – oh, your compliment almost makes me cry. It just illustrates that what might be a small thing to us could be something much greater for someone else. I have several more Christmas carols already recorded. They have to be short to post. I’d really like to play a piano solo but they’re too long. I’ll work on that.

  29. Alice in SW OH

Love the video & hearing you play! It did only come through on the blog, not the email. I agree it was a bit fast to really enjoy everything!

  30. Jeanine from SE iowa

That was great! I loved hearing you play the piano. We could take a lot more of that along with the videos. Thanks for sharing.

  31. Sandy N

Love this video and the piano playing is absolutely beautiful! Just so you know, the video doesn’t show up in the email so I had to come to the blog to see it. It’s a great way to drive us to actually click on the blog post to read/see everything. I get lazy about doing that when I can see it all in my email. So glad you’re starting to feel better!💜💜

  32. Mary Beth from Missouri

Loved your video. So glad you are feeling well enough to play your piano. Nothing heals the body like music 🎶 💕

  33. Janet

Looks like this video recording was posted by a PRO!
    – video … 10/10
    – audio … 10/10
Anticipating exciting new content. Best wishes for a smooth & swift recovery. :o)

  34. Rita in Iowa

Video was very good, just a little too quick of movement. Are you playing the piano in the background. Lovely

  35. Teresa in Indiana

I loved the video, but your piano playing even more! So glad you are on the mend. This seems more like the Mary we know! ♥️

  36. Vicki in Iowa City

It worked on the blog, but not on the e-mail. But it worked so that is what counts! Loved this.

  37. Debbie Miller in SC

Did not come through on email but perfect when read on blog! Glad you’re feeling better!

  38. Wanda in Northern Virginia

I got a good quality video, Mary, but it moved past things to look at a bit too fast as another reader mentioned.

  39. DebMac

It worked. I enjoyed seeing all the white dishes in the cupboard. For me, the video was a little quick to really catch detail. What is it you have hanging? I have several pieces of clothing my grandmothers made me as a little girl and look for (easy) ways to display them. Overall, I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.

  40. Marsha in Michigan

I’m glad you’re seeming more like your own spunky self! I’ll look forward to videos and birthday announcement!

    1. Sandy

Hi Mary, video and music was great! My husband was a videographer, so l saw many works in progress and your work does not need editing etc. Photos of the white plates etc are needed for closer inspection! Definitely 10 out of 10!
Glad things are improving, is Risk getting a cook book for Christmas? Haha! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
