Hank from Kansas
Ole, branch manager

Heather, a friend from camp, sent me the pictures of her sewing room and it looks so cozy I asked if I could post them – she agreed.

Fluffybun

Watching the Fever game and it looks like they’ll win but it’s been a bad game for Caitlin in points but great in assists. Aliyah Boston has had a fabulous game!

Talk tomorrow.

I always enjoy seeing sewing room pictures. We all keep ourselves organized different ways. Your pictures sent in from readers are so fun to see.
Last night I remembered I had clothes still in the washing machine so at 8 pm I hung out on my clothesline two tops I never put in the dryer. Would you believe it was so warm out that at 9:30 pm I went back outside to take them off the line and they were dry!

We have been getting some rain also! Thankfully! almost 2 inches since Monday!
Love all the pictures! Hazel is a hoot! We were invited to our son’s house for steaks last night! Yum! After supper we had a bonfire. Three dogs wanted our attention, if I was petting one, the other two were pawing on me! Too funny! The golden would give me the look when I was petting another! 😂

Mary, if Hazel’s twigs were as big as Ole’s, your arm would get sore really fast, lol! Heather, I see you’re a fan of Laura Heine’s collage quilts (over the ironing board and behind the sewing machine). I love them too, but haven’t been brave enough to try one yet. I have her pheasant pattern in a magazine. Some day I’ll get around to trying it.

Heather’s sewing room is wonderful. Is the potty for trash or in case she can’t make it to the bathroom? Hard to throw those relics we really don’t miss using away.
You were saying you couldn’t throw Hazel’s sticks? Well that dog has that problem solved!
We actually got 4/10ths of an inch of rain last night. Maybe more of the way today and tomorrow? It is so dry. The water restrictions went on a month earlier this year. Everybody’s yards are brown unless they watered. I can’t see wasting water for grass and I have only a couple big pots of flowers these years. This will pass — someday?
Take care and don’t mess with the high temps. Betty in Rapid City

Betty – we are blessed with rain! Got another half inch this morning. Southern Iowa got 7.6” last night!!

Hi Betty, during the discussion about bats a while back you mentioned that you lived in the dorm across from Iowa Methodist hospital’s main entrance, just curious if you were in the nursing dorm or the dorm to the west of the nursing dorm? I remember a lot of gals that went to AIB lived in the dorm to the west. I was in the nsg school dorm for 3 years. I don’t ever remember seeing bats flying around the lights but wasn’t outside much at night, too much to study! Always enjoy your posts here, we know what weather is coming our way when we hear from you. Pat in Iowa City

I’ll start this again. You’re making me get my directions straight. We were in the OLD nursing dorm. It was called the Young Business Women’s Home!!!!! The girls went to AIB, beauty school or worked. They were still working on the new nurse’s dorm, but girls were living there, too. We were on the west side above the parking lot. I was on the 2nd floor and we had a large screened porch on the north side of the building that looked down on a key club – 2 houses connected by a breezeway. They got raided one night and we watched! That was where we’d see all the bats flying around the street lights. It wasn’t fancy, but it was home and safe. There were 3 of us who worked by the capital and we had a standing order for a cab. We picked up 2 more girls down the hill at Esther Hall and he would drop us off near where each of us worked. I lived there for about 3 years, 1961-63? When were you at nursing school? Do you know when they tore the building down? It was far from fancy but comfortable and we were fed good, too.
You were probably busy studying? Betty in Rapid City

        1. Pat Williams

Betty, I was there in the partially new nursing dorm from 67-70. The entire dorm was imploded in 2014 to make room for hospital expansion. I had a friend that went to AIB so visited your dorm occasionally. I do remember the porch. I think the Young Business Women’s Home was gone before the nsg dorm. We have visited Rapid City several times over the years. One of our favorite places to eat is Millstone Restaurant. Always enjoy our travels thru the Black Hills. Hoping you can send us some cooler weather, very hot here but we did get a little rain. Thanks for sharing all your news with the many quilters on this blog. We all appreciate Mary’s efforts to keep it going as well as hearing from you. Pat in Iowa City

Me again—when you were in Rapid City and you ate at the Millstone, was it the restaurant just off the interstate? If that was it, you were VERY close to where I live! It is a very popular for everybody. My husband really liked it because the food was good and there were ALWAYS people we knew eating there. He had lived in this area all of his life.

Rapid City and Ellsworth AFB are getting ready for the B-2 bombers. I think it will be at least a couple years and they will be stationed here. They are getting the runways rebuilt, housing, schools and all the things more people will need. It will be very interesting to watch the big B-2’s fly. I still run outdoors to watch the B-1’s fly over. They are all very impressive.

Betty – I agree with the others who enjoy your comments – I love to hear what’s happening in Rapid City as well as what you’re working on.

          1. Pat Williams

Yes, the restaurant just off the interstate on east side of the road. We have also eaten at the one in Spearfish, always good food both places and friendly wait staff. Who knew you were so close!
Very interesting about the B-2 bombers. My husband would enjoy seeing those.
Thanks for all the info, fun to visit with you. Pat

I love the sewing room. Barbara in Mo I love your quilt. I haven’t done much sewing. I’ve been working in the garden until the sun beats me up. What’s with dogs and sticks? They’re so beautiful and funny. Stay safe and cool 😎.

Great quilts. Great dogs! And Fluffybun looks like she’s living the good life.
Heather, your sewing room looks so inviting. If course you’ll be getting some sewing done!
The break in the weather is coming soon, readers!

Carolyn – it’s raining at a steady pace here and looks like it will last all day! No mowing for me!

  7. Judy

Lovely pictures. The yellow brown blue gives me an idea for some of my scraps. Chilly would be good today here. This is the 4 th day of high temps and the excessive heat advisory has been extended to Friday evening. Temperatures next week look to be in the eighties. It will still feel warm. But the garden loves the heat.

  8. Sandy

Hi Mary, love all the quilts, dogs, and fluffy buns! Very keen on your double tubs, l have a small oval one, with a very rusty bottom! Chilly, damp and windy today, wish l didn’t have to take the dog out for toilet breaks! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

Sandy – sounds like an early wintery day. I didn’t buy nursery plants for my tubs this year – it was always raining so I planted nasturtiums instead for a change. One year I planted tomatoes – one in each tub but they didn’t really so well
