Hawks Win! 3-25-24

It was rough, it was hard, it was tough but they beat West Virginia! I’ve never seen so many fouls just trying to keep the Hawkeyes down but it didn’t work. On to the Sweet Sixteen. I texted with several of you during the game and this guy watched with his family. Thanks for your support, Blue! Everybody loves Iowa basketball and Caitlin Clark!

I paced during the basketball game and these three followed me the whole time.

I stopped to see Hank today – do you think he’s grown?

Then I stopped at Lund’s because Ella and Lucy had a surprise for me – they made me a puff paint t-shirt! It says We Love You, Grammie Mary! Could that be any sweeter? I think not.

Remember our discussion about Grandmothers Flower Garden? We did applique this set of antique blocks to background blocks for the cover quilt on our book called Leftovers and I didn’t want to do that again so I trimmed them.

And Paula and Nancy had asked about the pattern Homestead Reunion which I finally found – when I quit searching. It can be available to anyone for $5 and SASE, cash or check only.

One reader found this kit already cut out at her local thrift store!

Reader photos will be in Post #2. I already lost this whole post once tonight. I guess I overloaded it again.

That was some game! Had me on the edge of my seat, for sure. So glad Iowa won; on to the next round. A favorite time of year, absolutely!

That was one of the most rough games I have ever watched the Hawks play. I was surprised at the few amount of points we scored tonight. I was so glad we were able to pull away in the end. After we beat Colorado next week, we will probably play LSU again. That will also be a rough game. I know we can win if we block out.
I catch myself holding my breath several times during this game!

Brenda – I’m not sure I can watch Iowa play LSU again and if Iowa does win they’ll be faced with SCarolina – ugh.

The Iowa game was so exciting! I couldn’t even do my cross-stitching….just had to watch. Handsome Hank has grown. Look at the size of those paws! And what an honor…Grammie Mary! Ella and Lucy are sooo sweet.

Mary, what a darling picture of you, Ella, Lucy and the designer T-shirt!
It was another exciting game! Hope the girls will get some good rest before the next game.
Hank is so photogenic and appears to be growing very fast!

I’m really interested in finding out if I can buy copies of Presidents Pride. I would like to use it to teach a class? Any chance it can be made available?

Rita – I’ll search today and let you know – I’m pretty sure this won’t be an issue.

Rita – please send me an email so I have the address and I will email you the info – don’t really want to put it on the blog for everyone.

The game made me so nervous I turned it off in the 4th period when it was tied! I should have kept it on.

Maureen – I know exactly how you feel!!! I was so nervous I paced the whole time and just listened. Ugh. They’ll have to play much better in the next game, won’t they?

  8. Donna Jo

What a game! I was a nervous wreck! Hank is growing like a weed. He’s sure a cutie. How sweet of the girls to make you a T-shirt! I know you will wear it with pride.

Thanks! We only saw the second half of the game last night but we’re excited for the win and another milestone. Moment for Caitlin! Hope to see their game this weekend!

I was looking there but I guess it doesn’t show up on my phone app. Thanks, Mary.

Lesa – this is not my home page. Use your browser and look up chickenscratchcountrythreads.

That is where I looked this morning before I asked the question. Through my browser on my phone at that site your address & email is not visible. It Is visible on the same browser when I use my iPad. I did not intend to be so distracting. I just wanted to order the pattern. Sorry. 😢

When I asked the question this morning, all I had was my phone. Through the browser on my phone looking at your page, the address info is not visible. On my iPad using the same browser it IS visible. I was just trying to get a pattern ordered and did not intend to be a bother. So sorry. 😢

Blue is adorable watching the game. I nearly missed the 1st part of the game b/c I made a note last week the game started at 8. My son called me around 6:45 to make sure I had the station/time info.

I really liked the Gatorade commercial. So sweet, especially when the crowd is full of little girls in their 22 shirts and painted faces holding Caitlyn and Iowa signs.

I love your tee shirt! Recently my niece sent a picture of her little girl painting a shirt. She said one of her favorite childhood memories is painting shirts at my house. Fabric painting was so popular in the 80’s and 90’s.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sheryl – for some reason I had written down 8, too, but then corrected it. Loved the Gatorade commercial! I will be so sorry when all the games are done.

I told my son I think I got the info from the announcers at the last game. They must have given the eastern time.

  10. Stark Diane

I think I held my breath the entire playing portion of the game! Colorado. Will not be easy either! Everyone needs to be on their game. Caitlin can’t do it alone.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Stark Diane – you’ve got that right – they’ve got to play better or they’re OUT! Colorado will be tough.

  11. Jan Hebert

Awesome game! Caitlin was much more like what I expected – less drama! But you’re right, it will take a lot better team effort to win the next games. West Virginia made a lot more attempts at the basket but their efforts seemed to be focused on keeping Iowa from scoring – no matter what the expense to them! So many fouls! Blue was so cute watching the game, my Blue (a gray tabby) didn’t really pay any attention, haha! Silly cat! Hank is just such a handsome pup. He’s going to be big! Jan in MA where it still hasn’t gotten above 37 degrees at 1:17 pm…

What a nailbiter! So glad the Iowa ladies were able to pull it off.
The t-shirt is the best gift ever. What a sweet tribute to you.
Blue looks enthralled with the game. Lol
And Hank with those feet. Holy cow!

Love the cover quilt of grandmother’s flower garden! And the pattern you found!! ❤️❤️❤️

  14. Marsha in MI

Forgot to mention! So sweet those little girls are to make you a shirt!

And I’m not from MO as my last post says! 😊
